Le Coup de Foudre (2019)

This is one drama which makes readers believe that there is such a thing as "forever".
❤️Quiao Yi: Beautifully portrayed by Janice Wu...she's just perfect for the role: simple, quiet, ready to sacrifice for her love, very strong family ties.
❤️Yan Mo: Credible as someone who grew up alone, though given the best in life. Can be a strong influence for young people nowadays.
❤️Twin brother: Makes me cry watching his love for his twin sister.
❤️Best friend: Really a best friend to Quiao Yi, indeed the number one beauty.
❤️Mom & Stepdad: Model parents

Storyline is just perfect. It tackles all the elements in perfect harmony, no overlapping.
Although the the unfolding was a little bit slow, but it really didn't affect the overall result.
This is one drama that makes everyone laugh, shed tears, excited for the next episode (esp. the subtitle).
I just love the chemistry between Quiao Yi & Yan Mo. The script was excellently written; the ost makes the audience realize the true meaning of love.

Não parece, mas uma hora acaba.

A jornada para assistir esse cdrama foi longa e curta, ao mesmo tempo. Em tempo real, foi curta. Em tempo emocional, longa. Longa demais.

Vamos lá, quando planejamos roteiros e seus arcos, os planejamos para que sejam coerentes e verossímeis. O começo de um ideia é sempre empolgante de escrever, mas o ponto é: temos que levar essa empolgação, coerência e verossimilhança até o fim. Se você planeja uma série de 35 episódios, pois faça os 35 episódios valerem a pena. Não desista no meio do caminho.

Os primeiros episódios foram bastante interessantes. Mesmo se tratando de um romance clichê, tivemos quebras na temporalidade com três períodos do relacionamento sendo retratados, modo documentário com os personagens contando sua história, o romance não sendo a chave de ignição principal - relacionamento entre amigos e família tinham grande importância -, os coadjuvantes tinham grande peso. Tudo isso foi se perdendo aos poucos. A narrativa se tornou linear e o roteiro tomou um rumo usual. A impressão que fica é que demitiram o criador original da ideia e contrataram alguém pra remendar o resto do drama. E é isso: metade da série parece uma série de remendos, com situações incoerentes e personagens mal desenvolvidos. Todos os aspectos que tornavam o cdrama promissor, morreram. O últimos 10 episódios foram insuportáveis de assistir.

O relacionamento da amiga e do irmão foi totalmente mal desenvolvido. Eles ficaram amigos por anos e, depois de um noite de bebedeira, ele de repente de apaixona incondicionalmente. Toda a personalidade dele é derrubada. A insegurança dele sobre casar e ter filhos é derrubada com um diálogo. Uma frase dita por ela depois do beijo foi "por que não senti nada?" (ou seja, ideia de superação do romance na adolescência). Corta pra ela sofrendo loucamente até o último minuto.
Passaram-se vários episódios sem abordarem o relacionamento da amiga com a mãe. Corta pros 45' do segundo tempo com as duas resolvendo suas diferenças devido à doença da mãe. Quase um episódio só dedicado à isso.

Sobre os pais da protagonista: o padrasto sofre um acidente e se torna paraplégico e se utilizam do humor (!!!) para retratar sua queda para o alcoolismo (que aliás, é resolvido do nada também). O papel da mãe só é se preocupar com o filhos, cuidar do marido e ficar brava.

Sobre o amigo birrento: simplesmente um desperdício de evolução. Ele é do jeito que é por causa da criação restrita, sempre se envolveu em problemas, mas tem bom coração. Ele é assim aos 18 anos. Manteve-se assim aos 24 anos. Tinha tudo para aprender com erros, experiência dentro da empresa que montou, mas em nenhum momento ele para de agir de modo irresponsável e inconsequente. E ele agindo que nem um creepy com a menina rica? Plot horroroso e sem sentido nenhum. Ela fica com ele por pura carência por não ter tido atenção a vida.

E o casal principal? Primeiramente vamos deixar algo claro: interpretar alguém introspectivo não significa robotizar a performance. O ator é péssimo, só sabia fazer duas expressões e não sabia interpretar nuances para deixar o personagem humanizado. A atriz é boa, porém a personagem é um porre. Tem carisma, mas é insuportável. Mas isso é só minha percepção, porque (pelo menos) ela tem boa evolução na narrativa.

Último, mas não mais importante: o que era aquela p*rra de direção de fotografia? O que são aqueles filtros que insistiam em colocar aleatoriamente? Não tinha um padrão, não tinha uma linguagem estética, não tinha sentido! Parecia apenas que as lentes estavam sujas e algumas vezes limpavam, outras não. Numa mesma cena, tinha filtro num plano e cortava pra outro que não tinha! HORRÍVEL!!!
Além disso, notei problemas de continuidade e maquiagem mal feita em certos momentos.

O plot dos últimos episódios, com certeza, foram feitos para preencher algum espaço, como se tivessem que atingir uma cota de roteiro ou na grade de programação.
Assisti com uma força que nunca achei que teria. Orgulho de mim mesma.

Este C-Drama tem alguns pontos bastante positivos:
- a relação entre os dois irmãos é realmente legal de ver,
- a amizade entre o grupo principal também te deixa entretido

Quanto ao desenvolvimento do relacionamento dos protagonistas até certo ponto foi realmente fácil de assistir e gostar mas aí entra aquelas besteiras que os Dramas Chineses são mestres em apresentar para render mais episódios tornando a história cansativa e maçante.

Este C-Drama me deu uma pontinha de esperança em continuar à procura de um Drama Chinês que seja arrebatador, quando eles acertarem a fórmula será maravilhoso. Eu estou aguardando China, vcs conseguem! Jia You!

I have dropped many Cdramas. Sometimes because of terrible plot lines, annoying characters (especially female leads), tragic or rush endings, etc. But not Le Coup de foudre!

Le coup de foudre has everything that I want in a drama. But what I really like the most is its realistic story and lovable characters. It is lighthearted but still with substance. It has the right amount of heartache, romance (it is great actually. FL and ML have so much chemistry), friendship and slice of life.

Also, all cast members portrayed their characters so well. Just watch it and you will know what I'm talking about.

If you prefer coming-of-age genre, this is it. The plot isn't entirely linear, though. The first few minutes (after the sweet opening credits) show anecdotes of leads Yan Mo and Qiaoyi's married life so you'd know they do end up together. These short glimpses are honestly cute and lovely! After that, the remainder of time shows the story as they grow from deskmates to friends to something more than that.

The second leads are definitely cute, too! Unlike most drama serials' formula of love triangles (and squares) involving the second leads, this one is not, thankfully! They have their own worthy interrelated story and it's refreshing!

It's simple yet sweet and overall a realistic portrayal of young love that eventually lasts a lifetime. ❤

A wholesome drama about first love, friendship, family and youth. There are already 40+ reviews saying how good this drama is and.......... just like them, if you are reading this, please watch this drama! Read below why I am also promoting this show.

My score of 10 is really from the deeper connection I made while watching this drama. The main selling point for me was from the very beginning in episode 1, the audience are immediately told, "Hey this is my husband and we are married" which is the BEST since most Chinese Romance drama always either give you a cliffhanger as to what will happen in like the final arc or if some 'accident/misfortune' happens which results in an unhappy ending. By already telling us the story will end in a happy ending, the audience will shift from watching the show for the ending, to observing how the characters interact with each other throughout the story/ their life which is the main engagement.

Also as noted in the Drama Summary, the drama is based off a true real-life story from a Chinese Novel based off the author's relationship with her husband which gives the drama another level of intimacy.

Story/Plot
The initial story revolves around the characters' high school life. The story closely follows Qiao Yi's experiences during high school while also coping with her family's situation. The audience gets to know about the other characters' backstories and their current family situation which creates depth and understanding. The story focuses on relationships and how or why their bonds were so strong from the beginning. IMO the highschool arc was done well as the main focus was first love, family and youth. The second half the drama focuses on their adulthood and Qiao Yi trying to find Yan Mo once again. The main attention shifts to rekindling the lost love between the characters and embracing their feelings for one another. A few reviews stated they didn't like the flashbacks, IMO the story is still very solid and only a few flashbacks were missing which is why I think the drama released a special episode to make up for the 'missing' scenes. A few side story arcs were glanced over, but that is alright IMO (e.g. Wu Yi's mother). The drama should just be renamed to "My First Love".

Also hats off to the production team for adding in 30 second snippets of Yan Mo and Qiao Yi's married life at the start of the early episodes to engage (and remind) the audience that the couple are having a happy ending. Great tactic.

Acting/Cast/Characters
All characters are well protrayed and acted out perfectly. For once, each notable character has their own well-developed backstory + a role in the drama even if they are a supporting cast. Below I will only summarise the characters when they were still in high school since their adult life is also shaped from their youth.

- Yan Mo is the smart, top of your class, know-it-all introvert who doesn't like interacting with others. He is the one who sits in the corner of your class, earphones in listening to classical music (in this case The Beatles). He is likeable because once he interacts with Qiao Yi more and more, he comes out of his shell a little more each time. Eventually, once he falls for Qiao Yi, oh he is not an introvert anymore, he charges headstrong and is always talking/thinking about Qiao Yi.
- Zhao Qiao Yi is your not-so-smart classmate who is ranked bottom 5 of her year. Even though she knows she is not smart, she still tries her best and finds a career path she wants to do in the future. Knowing she needs help, she asks Yan Mo to home-tutor her which begins the start of their friendship (wink). The audience mostly falls for Qiao Yi due to her family's situation of being poor and how she copes with school life. Later on, it is about finding Yan Mo again and how she can be close with him again.
- Zhao Guan Chao is Zhao Qiao Yi's older twin brother. Guan Chao is a 'bird without feet', he is a playboy who likes to flirt and move between different girlfriends, but IMO he really only fell in love once and that is with Wu Yi. Being the older brother, Guan Chao is like the shield and protector of Qiao Yi. Whenever, Qiao Yi is having a hard time, he will always be there for her, the man of the house.
- Hao Wu Yi is Qiao Yi's best friend. In plain-text, Wu Yi has mummy-issues so that is why Qiao Yi is like her only family member and she yearns for a relationship. Even when Wu Yi grows up, she still holds onto her teenager mentality which is not frustrating to watch and actually quite likeable. It is cute to watch how she handles 'adult-life' since she does not have a family to ask for guidance.
- Fei Da Chuan is everybody's 'best' friend. Even though he looks rough and acts like a bully, he is actually kind-hearted and will be there for you. He will be the first person to come out and stand up for you in time of need and be there for you when you want to have a chat.
-Cheng Yu Mei (Alicia) is Yan Mo's alleged 'fiance' which is in fact just his childhood friend. Yu Mei was there for him when Yan Mo was suffering from the heartbreak after graduation. Rest assured, Yu Mei doesn't really make a move on Yan Mo, she is more like an old friend silently watching over him. She appears more when everyone moves to university and she has a funny love line with Fei Da Chuan.

- I also want to give a massive shoutout to the family members and school collegues as they acted out their roles quite well.

Music
The music/ OSTs really marries with the scenes in the drama. The OSTs on their own are great to listen to, but the production crew really did a good job selecting appropriate songs for specific scenes. It is as if the singer themselves are there singing specifically for the couple at that point in time. Furthermore, the mood the singer sets in their song also perfectly protrays the character's emotions. For me personally, the Songs: "Never Let you Go" IS Qiao Yi's emotions and "Most Loved Friend" is Wu Yi's life (Everytime I hear Most Loved Friend, I cry for Wu Yi, that is how deep of a connection the songs made on me, Queue Episode 34 13:00 -17:30, Wu Yi's Proposal Scene).

Rewatch Value
I would definitely watch this drama again in the future and would recommend to others too. The entire drama gives off such a wholesome, happy atmosphere which will put a smile on your face or cry your eyes out (not due to sadness but how happy you are for them).

Why I gave the drama my current rating? (10)
Having not read the novel, I cannot say how accurate the drama followed the book. Nevertheless the story, characters and production were superb. I may not have stressed this above, but the drama also strongly focuses on family ties which is another form of love. Forgot to mention in 2nd half of the drama, there are some obvious product placement. I don't mind too much since it is not affecting the story and its funding the drama. It has been a while since I cared so much for a show that I have cried my eyes out on multiple occassions and putting my hand up to write this review. This drama is definitely one of my top 5 best shows IN MY LIFE currently. So what are you waiting for, GO WATCH IT NOW@!

Decided to re-watch

I watched this drama around 2019 and I felt like I didn't give the justice it deserved. I decided to watch it again due to Janice Wu. I liked it the first time but the second time I loved it so so much. The acting of both actors is amazing, the love story, ecah characters growth and how the last episode gives you a sneak peek of how their married life is, is absolutely amazing. This drama is so sweet and warm and it's not boring and does not drag too long. I could watch every episode so easily and fast. Nothing is too complicated it's more everything in its right time kind of solving. I highly recommend this drama

Clichê lindo e agradável

Estes últimos anos a China fez incríveis trabalhos com estórias nos tempos atuais e sem fantasia. Le Coup de Foudre resgata clichês que poderiam estar fadados ao fracasso, mas são tão bem utilizados que não incomodam nada. A atuação não é 100%, nem o desenvolvimento dos acontecimentos. Mas o conjunto da obra é muito agradável e você se pega ignorando qualquer falha que apareça. Vale a pena demais ver algo assim, para fugir de temas pesados, e ainda acalentar o coração.

- A protagonista não é explosiva. É uma garota normal, como eu fui, você ou outra garota que facilmente encontraríamos nas nossas vidas.
- O par romântico é tudo menos romântico. Mas apesar de você desconfiar às vezes que ele não é humano, ele só é mais um esquisito no mundo.
- Os casais "secundários" são tão incríveis que mereciam ter sido protagonistas tanto quanto os principais.
- Encontros e desencontros são realistas, não tem aquela coisa chata de deixar de falar ou falar algo desnecessário, gerando treta burra. Quando algo se desenrola por falta de diálogo é porque a situação ou a personalidade da pessoa condiz com aquilo.
- O melhor casal com certeza são os irmãos gêmeos. Como pode uma relação ser tão linda? Inveja boa daquilo ♥️

Resumindo, gostei muito. Não é meu estilo preferido, mas foi uma incrível surpresa!

Binge-Watchable

I haven't seen a lot of C-dramas, maybe 15 but except for three or four series, I have dropped all. Mainly because the lack of realistic emotions between characters. I won't say that this is a all-in realistic series but it gives a similar vibe. The first few episode are slow paced but sweet and later it regains pace and is binge watchable.

The music is good, especially the intro and the guitar bgm that plays all through the series.

Talking about the leads, i found them as a perfect cast. Even though ML had a wax face all through the series, he bought up a realistic aspect to the drama and it's still a mystery for me. Gotta admit, Janice is the cutest!

This drama won't disappoint you, I swear!

Although I haven't finished watching all the episodes, I enjoyed it quite a lot. At first, I didn't want to watch it. But as I watched the trailer, it really captured me so I started watching it. As I keep finishing one episode I was always desperate to see the next one because it was so good! I love the acting from the cast, and I love their little love story. Sometimes, I don't really like the time flips because it was really confusing at first. But as I watched more episodes, I understood why the producers and the directors added the time flips. I recommend this drama to 13 years or older.
