Top 5 Most Geezer Deaths

*WARNING* SPOILERS for the following:

How many times has your heart skipped a beat because your favorite character seems about to die? How many times, with a half smile, have you thought “No, he/she is not dead, now he/she will get up” or “He/she will have only an amnesia”. In fact, don’t worry, in 99% of cases our hero/heroine will come out alive with amnesia (that in Dramaland is more frequent than a cold) or a short comatose state.

Problems, however, come in that 1% of cases. We are so used to watch the characters in critical situations (they shoot him and he doesn't die, he drowns and doesn't die, he get into a car accident and still nothing...) that when they actually die, we're not prepared, we simply cannot believe it.

There are natural deaths, plausible deaths, even epic deaths, but some deaths... are really bizarre! Here are the ones that left me more baffled.

1) Jin Sa Woo - IRIS

Jin Sa Woo represents a wider category of absurd deaths, that we could call “dip against the shots” or “SSS”
(Senseless Suicide-Sacrifice). I took him as an example because I was particularly fond of his character. From the beginning I felt something like a presage of his death, an unconscious awareness: “He has to die”, still I hoped for a better death. After some heroic scenes, after the “reconciliation” with Kim Hyun Jun, I was expecting something more. But he, instead of staying quiet where he was, decided to throw the gun to Kim Hyun Jun and throw himself unarmed and with barbarian screams against the shots.

Why was I astounded: Why?! The most unnecessary and unjustified sacrifice that I have ever seen.

2) Boo Yong - Rooftop Prince

With inhumane courage, Boo Yong decides to kill herself by eating poisoned persimmons in order to save her sister, her family, and especially Prince Lee Kak. Indeed, she makes a really stoic sacrifice! Then, why did I decide to talk about Boo Yong's death?

Why was I astounded: Maybe because... What the heck! Nobody had bothered to check the identity of a floating corpse?! Really?! We know that the whole story was born from this death, everything revolves around it and then we find out, in the last episode, that it was just a “misunderstanding”... It's just too disconcerting and disappointing. I didn't want to believe my ears, my eyes and my other intellectual faculties and I kept on repeating “Are you kidding me?”

3) Kim Young Joo - City Hunter

The peculiarity of this death is the fact that it occurs after our prosecutor got away quite well in defending himself from the bad guys and the viewer has breathed a sigh of relief. That's it! Here is the error: NEVER breath sighs of relief while watching an action drama, a man with a crowbar could come out of nowhere and kill one of your favorite characters.

Why was I astounded: How is it possible that Lee Yoon Sung, facing every day dangerous situations, getting shots and wounds of all kinds, meeting daily people trying to kill him at the end survives with no problems and Kim Young Joo the first time, maybe the only one, in which he's in that kind of situation, dies? At the moment the only explanation I found was in “Murphy's law”.

4) Kim In Hee - Personal Taste

As for the weirdest cause of death, Park Kae In's mother certainly holds the record. Or maybe I'm the only one who wondered how is it possible that a child breaking a window on the roof falls downstairs and gets along with a few scars, while her mother, downstairs, drops dead? What exactly made her die?

Why was I astounded: Apart from the doubts about the dynamics of the accident, you can say that she was asking for it. I mean, what a great idea to build a glass roof in order to watch your daughter playing upon your head with blunt objects that may break the glass! Next time why don't you put next to her a gavel with the words: "emergency exit"?

5) Kim Hyun Jun – IRIS

Although his life was worthy of a Greek tragedy, in the last part of the story it seemed that things were eventually settled. Yeah, everything was going too well for us to stay calm and comfortably seated on our sofas. We already know: never let your guard down! In fact, just when the matter seems to have landed on a safe ground... the story ends with the protagonist's mysterious death, he who had survived EVERYTHING.

Why was I astounded: Let me say it: the most WTF death of drama history! It's specifically designed to build a second series, and one of the worst ways to end a drama, as Cuzie already said in her “Horrible Ways to End the Drama You Love”.
HONORABLE MENTION: Lee Yeon - Iljimae

I know Geom's sister wasn't an essential character, but her death made a deep impression on me.

Watching Iljimae I've often found myself thinking “It can't get any worse” and I've been promptly denied, in fact, the whole Geom's life is marked by misfortune. Therefore you could also say that seeing his sister, just found after so many years, dying before his eyes is only a small piece of a bigger puzzle.

Why was I astounded: The fact is that Geom is calm and quiet when he watches the hanging show, because he's sure that mice gnawed the rope. Ok, our hero had so much to learn at that time, but did he really think that they wouldn't have checked the rope before the execution?!
