its not as bad as how many people are trying to make it look

if you are looking for a serie where both main characters have their own flaws and you are looking for their character development then this is for you, one of the characters is homophobic and they explain later the reason and the trauma he is dealing with, eventually he learns to accept himself ,to accept his sexuality ,so along the way you will see him first denying the truth and being mean that was his way of defending himself even if he was doing it wrong and you will see the character growth with every step he takes.

the other main character didnt understand what boundaries mean and its only in the first eps then you see him feeling guilty and having a flashback about how type said "i hate you", their first time sleeping together happened with consent so there was no rape involved so what im saying he got handsy in the first eps what happened in the first eps werent to the point of "no forgiveness" and dont get me wrong of course consent is important, so im glad their first time sleeping with each others and the next times were all with consent ,this show never romanticized non consent ,i just want to say if you want to watch the show you need to have an open mind so if you feel triggered so easily then this is not for you

the story of the serie is really interesting, i loved the fact that its fast paced even tho sometimes i feel like i need to catch a break lol and there is plot twists too , it kept me excited
the most thing that i loved is the chemistry, the chemistry of tharntype is the best i have ever seen in any bl serie and im not saying the other bls dont have chemistries i loved many of them but tharntype's chemistry is on top.
the other best thing that i loved is the character growth, tharntype of ep 1 are not the same of last ep,they are 2 completely different persons and i loved watching their growth, the only issue i have with this serie is lhong, i dont like how he didnt end up in jail because he should be in jail

A lot of drama but entertaining

I dropped TharnType many times before and really hated it, thought it was very toxic. But picked it up again from ep 4 and feel like I was too harsh, I finally enjoyed it this time.

Seems that if you skip episode 3 then you can watch it and enjoy it without having to feel the "disgust" that TharnType is famous for which also previously made me drop it many times.

If you skip ep 3 and watch from ep 4 then I guarantee you'll be able to enjoy it and their relationship progress will seem normal. From ep 4 on, Type is the one throwing advances at Tharn, he also has a lot of progress at dealing with his internalized homophobia that was caused by childhood sexual abuse

what a mess

truly i don't understand what's all the hype about this series??? somehow it made me feel disgusted. here is why: Type has been sexually abused as a kid and he hates gays, that makes sense and it's logical. but how the hell he had sex with a gay and he was the one suggesting to be the bottom??? and all of that without even having any type of emotion or love towards Tharn???
It's not realistic, he hated gays but he was having fling with one??? it was pire lust and that's what it made it disgusting for me.
i don't mind them having sex just for fun, but only if he wasn't sexually abused. He was making a big deal out of it and he was traumatised but then suddenly he suggest to be the bottom? Like wth???
i tried to complete it n i thought maybe it will get better, but hell no. i just hated the characters, special Type. i didn't feel any kind of love or emotion between them.
For me it was a total disaster, i give it 1 only because of Mew. i will never suggest this to anyone.

Tenham em mente que eu vou críticar tudo, repito TUDO.
Como um membro da comunidade lgbt+ eu sempre estive bem informada sobre obras BL e GL porém tharntype foi um dos primeiros doramas do gênero, eu devia ter escolhido melhor
Primeiro que nada faz sentido nessa merda, seja valores morais, personalidades, direção e roteiro. Tudo e uma merda, mas vamos por partes
O tharn e gay assumido, tem familia rica, bom relacionamento com a mesma, e o típico garanhão, tudo certo até aí, mas aí do nada, ele decide assediar seu colega de quarto como "brincadeira" desencadear um trauma do mesmo por ter sido abusado na infância e pra consertar a cagada ajuda ele com um incidente na escola
O type por sua vez e o gay(porque não existe bissexual nessa merda*) que não sabe que e gay, e homofóbico e tem traumas com gays. Que quando descobre que o colega de quarto e bixa já vai querendo expulsar ele como se o ele(type) fosse o dono do dormitório, depois de não conseguir expulsar o tharn e fracassar novamente, ainda arruma briga com as gays de outro departamento e quase foi expulso da escola. ele não conseguindo engolir o orgulho de ter sido salvo por uma bixa decide dar o rabo pra ele como pagamento (viro prostituta fds) QUEBRANDO COMPLETAMENTE O ROTEIRO


Depois de ter entrado numa relação de amigos coloridos com o tharn, o type decide investir numa novinha mesmo sabendo que o tharn gostava dele assim indo afogar o ganso com a gostosa e deixando o tharn como mero brinquedo de quicar para ele. Depois de ter tentado meter a vara na cheirosa E TER BROXADO ele volta pro tharn como cachorro abandonado só porque agora ele não sentia mais tesão em mulher E DEPOIS DISSO E SO LADEIRA ABAIXO
vocês tão vendo como esse relacionamento e tóxico? Essa relação só rola porque o tharn coloca todo a segurança emocional no próprio peito e deixa o vagabundo do type fazer oque quiser

e quando teve rumores de términos eu estava dando graças adeus EU TAVA BATENDO PALMA COM A BUNDA, EU JA NAO AGUENTAVA MAIS. O MEU DESEJO E QUE ELES TERMINASSEM E CONTINUASSEM O RELACIONAMENTO 5 ANOS NO FUTURO
O thanr tbm e um nojentinho ele não cinseguia fazer um momento fofo durar sem meter uma piada com sexo (até na frente de outras pessoas).
E vamos aqui com uma lista de merda de coisas romantizadas nessa série ?
1. Pedofilia
O primeiro namoro do thanr estava no segundo ano do ensino médio (16~17) enquanto o tharn estava no 7⁰(12~13) o vagabundo achou que seria uma boa ideia pedir a bunda do thanr em troca de colocar ele na banda, assim tirando a virgindade anal de um muleque que não tinha nem pelo no saco
2. Estupro e assédio
Quando o tar revela que ele foi abusado enquanto estava drogado o culpado dessa tragédia e o long, que por sua vez e perdoado, sim. O roteiro passa pano pra ele na cena que a irmã consola ele dizendo que o tharn só não tinha entendido ele.
3. Roteiro horrível
Eu sei que isso não e uma coisa normalizada mas o roteiro dessa merda divia ser um crime
4. Sexualização
Além de desenvolvimento do casal ter sido horrível essa série conseguiu fazer com que eu tivesse nojo das cenas de hot, parecia um filme porno de baixa qualidade
5. Não sei

Ratings too high.

I really think a lot of people have watched this drama just for the spiciness of it.

Plot is problematic, most of the characters are problematic, it has unnecessary drama and it talks about topics on a way you should never talk about them.

The only thing remarkable of this series is Mew's and Gulf's chemistry and acting. They are amazing together and I really think they deserve main roles on a better constructed series.

I didn't even bother to watch the second season (7 years of love) because it was just a bunch of making out scenes with no plot at all.

The series attempts to tackle heavy themes such as homophobia, trauma, and the journey towards acceptance. While the story is compelling in its boldness, it is also problematic in several key areas, particularly in how it portrays the relationship between the main characters.

Story: The narrative of "TharnType" is intense, focusing on the evolution of Type from a deeply homophobic individual to someone who learns to accept and love another man. However, the journey to this point is fraught with problematic elements that can’t be ignored. The relationship between Tharn and Type is often toxic, characterized by manipulation, emotional abuse, and non-consensual encounters that are portrayed in a disturbingly romanticized light. These issues are not just brushed over but are, at times, depicted as part of the romantic development, which sends a troubling message about what constitutes a healthy relationship.

Tharn and Type’s dynamic is built on a foundation of conflict and power struggles. Type's initial aggression towards Tharn, fueled by his internalized homophobia and past trauma, creates a hostile environment. Tharn, on the other hand, is persistent, almost to the point of being coercive, in his pursuit of Type. This dynamic is problematic, as it blurs the lines between love and control, making it difficult to root for their relationship in a conventional sense. While the series attempts to explore the themes of redemption and healing, it often falls short by not addressing the toxic elements in a meaningful way, instead choosing to gloss over them in favor of an idealized romantic outcome.

Tharn and Type are both complex characters, each with their own set of flaws and virtues. Type, as a character, is initially hard to sympathize with due to his overt homophobia and volatile temper. His backstory reveals a traumatic experience that explains, but does not excuse, his behavior. Over the course of the series, Type undergoes significant character development, slowly coming to terms with his feelings for Tharn. However, this development is uneven, and his journey from hatred to love can feel rushed and inconsistent at times, especially considering the gravity of his initial prejudice.

Cast/Acting: The standout aspect of "TharnType" is undoubtedly the chemistry between the leads, Mew Suppasit and Gulf Kanawut, who portray Tharn and Type. Their performances are compelling, with Mew bringing a gentle yet determined presence to Tharn, while Gulf convincingly portrays Type’s internal struggle and eventual transformation. The on-screen chemistry between Mew and Gulf is palpable, and it is this chemistry that drives much of the series' emotional weight. Their interactions, whether filled with tension, passion, or tenderness, feel genuine, pulling the audience into the intense dynamic between Tharn and Type. This chemistry is essential to the series’ success, as it keeps viewers invested in their tumultuous relationship, even when the narrative itself falters. Their performances are so strong that they elevate scenes that might otherwise feel cliché or problematic, making the series memorable despite its flaws.

However, while the lead actors excel, some of the supporting cast doesn’t quite match up. Many secondary characters lack depth, often serving as mere plot devices rather than fully realized individuals. This results in a less immersive world, where the focus remains heavily on the main couple, sometimes to the detriment of the overall story.

Music: Unmemorable.

Rewatch Value: "TharnType" has a certain rewatch value, especially for fans who are drawn to the intense chemistry between the leads. However, the series’ problematic elements, including the portrayal of toxic relationships and questionable consent, may make it difficult for some viewers to revisit. The heavy themes and the emotional toll of watching such a fraught relationship unfold might deter rewatching, especially for those who are sensitive to depictions of abuse or manipulation in romantic contexts. That said, certain scenes or moments, particularly those showcasing the lead actors’ chemistry, may still hold appeal for fans who are able to separate the problematic aspects from the overall experience.

TW for sexual assault and homophobia

This was one of the first BLs I ever watched, and honestly, it was traumatising and off putting. As an SA victim, this show is literally so triggering to watch, and also as a member of the LGBT community, it's so uncomfortable. So if you're sensitive to these topics, please do yourself a favour and don't watch it. But also just in general, don't watch it. It's so strange. There is no excuse to force yourself on someone, even if that person is homophobic and "deserves it" (no one does), and in what world is sexual assault going to change anyone's opinion on gay people???

TharnType e a falsa polêmica: a banalização do assédio e abuso sexual em relações tóxicas

Para além da moralidade — e não pretendo ser um juiz para condenar o absurdo que foi essa série, mas já sendo — e para além da perspectiva de “certo e errado” na ficção ou na realidade, apenas três coisas se destacaram em TharnType:

1 — A normalização do abuso sexual e do ciúmes tóxico.

2 — A romantização da posse. O “objeto” de apreciação para a ser o “objeto dominado”. Ou seja: a posse assume seu caráter de relação entre um sujeito (Type) que pode ser variável e um objeto (Tharn) que é ou apreciado ou desprezado, ora um é o sujeito, ora outro objeto, que em alguns momentos assumem posições opostas, mas que refletem a mesma coisa.

3 — A incapacidade da obra de trazer a discussão de abuso/assédio de forma crível. Pelo contrário, ela de forma objetiva aborda o tema: > Type sofre abuso por parte de Tharn > Tharn assedia Type > Type passa a ser objeto de apreciação de Tharn > Tharn passa a ser objeto de preconceito de Type. E no final não leva a lugar nenhum, pelo contrário, diretamente — e sem medo de afirmar isto — ela incentiva a relação tóxica de ambos como um amor avassalador que domina a vontade de ambos.

E como se tudo fosse normal, como se esses não fossem tema sensíveis e delicados, ela abandona qualquer intenção de abordar de forma crítica estes temas para desenvolver uma relação extremamente inverossímil, tóxica e que se sustenta apenas por um único motivo — e que está longe de ser um bom motivo — , é apenas o fanservice. A única coisa que é verossímil na obra e que ela se compromete em realizar com tamanho afinco é apenas isto: fanservice. Se ela gastasse metade da capacidade tem para criar essa quantidade gigante de fanservice para criar um roteiro minimamente aprazível, o show seria ao menos digno de pena. Isso nem ao menos pode ser digno de algo fora o desprezo.

Para além da mediocridade roteirística que é este show de horrores, ela não consegue acertar nem mesmo em seus próprios dilemas criados ao longo do desenvolvimento de seus temas e personagens. Ela se nega a resolver os problemas que criou, se nega a solucioná-los, mas em contrapartida, os aceita como são: problemáticos. E ao se negar a solucionar aquilo que ousou criar, não se difere em nada do abandono. Suas criações são descartadas em cada “changepoint” em que se encontra, e para resolver seus problemas que anteriormente foram inseridos sem ter que lidar com as problemáticas que eles acarretam a série apela para o drama excessivo que não convence. Pelo contrário, suas tentativas de criar plot twist e solucionar problemas são risíveis.

Estes problemas começam justamente no cerne da obra, aqueles que são responsáveis por controlar a narrativa: os personagens. Se existe palavra para definir de forma sucinta 90% dos personagens da série essa palavra seria “execrável”.

THARN: é um personagem carismático e bonito que não consegue manter suas relações. Ele é atraente e amado por muitas pessoas por sua boa aparência e por sua personalidade agradável e “abnegada”. Por algum motivo um garoto quase perfeito não consegue manter seus namorados. (Posteriormente se descobre que ele sempre é abandonado por seus namorados por causa das mentiras que seu melhor amigo conta sobre ele para seus pretendentes na intenção de afastá-los de Tharn para que ele o tenha para si). Porém, ele um dia se encontra em um dormitório onde terá que dividir o quarto com um homofóbico que simplesmente o rejeita por odiar gays, porém, a verdade é que Type é um lixo humano ambulante.

TYPE: um garoto bonito do time de futebol que gosta de mulheres em uma primeira instância, odeia gays por um trauma passado (tema completamente descartado pela série e não trabalhado, usado apenas como apelo emocional para justificar o lixo ambulante que é o Type) passa a dividir o dormitório com Tharn a quem odeia quando descobre que ele é gay. Ele é possessivo e completamente irracional. Passa a gostar de Tharn e decide namorar com ele, mesmo sendo homofóbico e ignorando que odiava gays, logo, Tharn.

Temos os dois personagens principais e nada mais pode ser dito sobre eles. Eles não têm nuances, são apenas personagens preto no branco. Não existem nuances neles. É apenas isso: um rapaz possessivo e um potencial estuprador que por mero descaso do roteiro se encontram. Após isso é só ladeira abaixo.

Primeiro: O relacionamento de ambos não convence. Não existe desenvolvimento e não se propõe a ter. Simplesmente é escarrado na cara do telespectador para servir de fanservice. Se existiu tentativa de desenvolver tal relação ela se perdeu em meio ao fanservice. Em uma bela noite simplesmente ocorre de Type ficar doente, Tharn que outrora abusa de seu homólogo cuida dele. Um gesto simples. Ele presta socorro ao necessitado. Mesmo esse necessitado sendo um homofóbico que o odeia. Depois disso como se Type tivesse uma epifania ao descobrir que seu colega de quarto gay cuidou dele, que ele odeia por ser gay e apenas isso, decide, por mera circunstância duvidosa e completamente grotesca ter um relacionamento sexual com a pessoa que odeia como forma de agradecimento. Para agradecer seu potencial cuidador ele declara que como forma de pagamento realizaria sexo com seu parceiro de quarto. Aqui acaba todo desenvolvimento anterior. Simplesmente as características primárias do personagens se adaptam de forma horrenda para servir de plot twist e gerar através da problemática principal o relacionamento mais intolerante que tive o desprazer de presenciar.

Segundo: O complexo de Tar. O personagem que surge em tela tem traumas pesados e seu tema é abordado de forma sensível no início para depois perder sua importância e servir de palco para a justificativa possessivo de Type para com Tharn. Não é relevante falar sobre ele, é apenas um plot device, um personagem que só existe para servir de trampolim na relação Tharn x Type e que não agrega qualidade ao roteiro. Ele é uma peça descartável, mas para não ser tão frio com o personagem ele serve para nos fazer sentir pena — no meu caso, pena do péssimo uso que ele teve — e com isso criar uma narrativa condescendente com suas ações. Ele sofre um estupro coletivo que é abordado apenas para criar um bode expiatório que serve para solucionar o problema seguinte: Lhong.

Terceiro: Lhong é o antagonista. Para ser sincero é o personagem mais execrável da obra por natureza. Surge para ser a oposição da relação tóxica dos protagonistas e ao mesmo tempo para ser sua solução. Ele é a chave do problema. O amor platônico que antagoniza objetivamente o amor platônico descrito por Platão em seu livro “O Banquete”. O amor de Lhong é o amor impuro, material, sujo, doente por essência, corrompido, nasce de tudo que é ruim em uma relação e serve de contraste para corrigir o amor desprezível de Tharn e Type.

Por isso é a chave: ele é usado para trancar a porta dos problemas de confiança e da priori do relacionamento daqueles que é antagonista. Como criticar a possessividade de Type e a condescendência de Tharn, quando temos Lhong que não apenas afetou a vida diretamente do seu objeto de apreciação (Tharn) como fez um garoto menor de idade sofrer um estupro coletivo? Existe amor mais vil e doente que este? Não preciso dizer mais nada. Apenas reitero que ele não sofre represálias por seus crimes e tudo passa a ser indiretamente um problema de autoestima de quem não foi amado pelo objeto de apreciação e nem pelos pais. Essa solução é porca e completamente desprezível para ser usada.

Quarto: O tema mais bem descrito e mais bem desenvolvido, mesmo que não tenha tido destaque ou tenha tido um melhor tempo em tela, é a relação dos irmãos Tum e Tar, em que Tum, irmão mais velho de Tar mantém secretamente um tipo de paixão romântica pelo seu irmão. As abordagens são bem sensíveis e mesmo que não tenha sido tratada de forma explícita — não existem abordagens que a tornem como tal — ela é palatável, e talvez seja o único ponto de qualidade na série. Deixando de lado qualquer crítica pessoal a relações com conotação incestuosa.

No final, ela abdica de todas seus próprios dilemas e problemas. A série deixa todas as feridas que criou aberta: estupro de Type na infância. Abuso de Tharn à Type. Estupro coletivo de Tar. Problemas mentais de Lhong por seu amor doente por Tharn. A possessividade romantizada de Type. O ciúmes dele que são injustificáveis não agrega valor ao roteiro ou ajuda a desenvolver a relação romântica de ambos. Em diversos momentos Type faz chantagem emocional com Tharn para obter prazer e satisfação em sua posse sobre afirmação de que o objeto em questão é seu objeto de apreciação e somente seu. Tharn que em diversas ocasiões assume papel de abusador em potencial. Tudo isso é trazido de forma relevante não para ser discutido e ser objetivo, mas, infelizmente, para ser um aparato maquiavélico de criar um fanservice e romantizar e naturalizar uma relação que nasce tóxica e se desenvolve sendo tóxica. Para TharnType eu reservo o meu completo arrependimento de ter me forçado a assistir para que tivesse o mínimo de propriedade para discutir sobre ela.

Ok, listen, it's 2 am and I dropped this drama after the 4th episode. And I'm SO mad.

Yes, it does have steamy scenes that are fulfilling empty BL fans hearts.
Yes, the actors are good looking.
Superficially speaking, it's good.

But the script is a NIGHTMARE. It's soaked in ignorance and is overall a sad excuse of recherche.
I am very aware that it's a fictional story but that won't dismiss the drama of credibility. Jesus take the wheel.

This drama draws a very toxic and very wrong picture of very serious issues, such as child abuse, rape, lack of consent, the LGBTQ+ community and homophobia.
Sorry not sorry to crush your thirsty dreams but a rape victim won't easily sleep with another person without any hint of hesitation. In reality it's a long, frustrating and painful process that has been - for the sake of sexualization - completely ignored in this drama.
An abuse victim also won't tell someone they barely know about their dark past. I'm not saying it's impossible but highly unlikely.
The dialogue between the two main leads regarding their "tragic pasts" was superficial. There comes a certain depth in the choice of words with such experiences, but - I blame the script - the actors couldn't portray it accordingly.
Next thing on my list is the problematic portrayal of LGBTQ+ people. Yes, there are snowflakes that abuse the movement for childish and stupid actions. But I highly doubt that the shown examples are in any way common. It only fuels the fight between the two fronts. If they sincerely wanted to leave a positive note on LGBTQ+, they failed.
Another thing: consent. Dear lord. Who needs consent if the actors are hot. Who needs consent if the scene turns me on.
I NEED CONSENT. And you need it too. Lakorns and ML Chinese projects tend to throw morals and consent out of the window and the fans can't shut up about how hot it is.
I said it a thousand times and I will say it again: it's a dangerous message to send. Especially to younger, inexperienced
viewers. No, it's not okay, to grope a sleeping or drunk person. Especially if they faced sexual abuse in their past. And don't even try to protect Tharn. There were red flags everywhere. Types possibly abusive past was part of a discussion with No. And still, he decided to just "claim" this person. It's wrong. Seriously twisted.

Back to the pathetic script: it would have been better to use more and longer flashbacks to emphasize the trauma
Not just empty monologuing. The character did develop but in a way the viewers couldn't really take part in. There were literally scenes where Type said X and in the next he completely changed his mind to Y. Sometimes I felt as if they cut half of the scenes off.

I'm done with this.
Tldr; I believe their display of psychological trauma was not satisfying. The lack of understanding and recherche is outrageous.
If all they wanted, was to show a steamy romance between two guys they could have done so without trying to make it pseudo deep.
It sends a wrong message. And those who have to pay for it once again are real victims of abuse.
What a shame.

This Series more likely expressed the disrespectful side of homosexual people. This series project gays are as the sex toys who just sex at night and being a homophobic in real. The sexual assaults are highly encouraged. The characters are lack of chemistry in the emotions but just skinship only. It is just waste of time. The scene where Tharn and Type sex in-front of his friend sleeping in couch in totally unacceptable and disrespectful. By showing that story line; look like the writer is trying to tell viewers as the gay peoples are manner-less and get as low to the level for sex.
