Episodic Review
Ep 1: 4/10, Of course this show starts off with non-con T_T on another note Type is quite possibly the most dislikable male lead I've ever had the displeasure of watching. Will never understand what Tharn sees in himEp 2: 6/10, With each episode I somehow dislike Type even more >:( Tharn deserves so much better
Ep 3: 6/10, I thought Type was bad (he is) but Tharn is just as bad with the non-con T_T Sigh Techno is the only good guy in this whole show. Also, Type was totally in the right to tell off those club members (although the slur and garbage comments were unwarranted) , good on him for standing up for himself .
Ep 4: 6.5/10
Ep 5: 7/10
Ep 6: 3/10, Type really be testing our patience every episode, their relationship is so toxic, I don't support T_T
Ep 7: 7/10
Ep 8: 6/10
Ep 9: 7/10, How does this couple manage to get even more toxic with every episode and why does Tharn have so many exes geez, at this point the whole universe is against these two being together (me included <3 )
Ep 10: 2.5/10 I'm so sick and tired of these idiots
Ep 11: 1/10 how are we going downhill one episode before the show ends T_T also adding Song with Techno to the list of only decent people in this whole show
Ep 12: 7/10 I know I've been this couple's biggest hater since the beginning lol but good on them for getting their happy ending ig! They dragged the parts with Lhong out way too much though. Also gonna give the show writers the benefit of the doubt and assume Tar meant love in a brotherly way because we do not need incest on top of all the problems this show already has ( ・⌓・;)
Overall: 5.3/10. Would I watch this again? Most likely not, so final rating is 4.5/10.
Also, this is a very minor and unimportant detail but why do the actors shave 80% of their legs but leave the last 20%? (˃̣̣̥ ▿ ˂̣̣̥) I can't take it seriously lol everytime the camera pans down, I can see the perfectly straight line separating the shaved from the unshaved and it cracks me up xD

I got recommended this a few times & I didn’t plan on watching it but I decided to give it a chance. I came into this show expecting a lot of spicy scene (because I’ve seen clips on TikTok) and besides the sex scenes that I felt awkward watching it was a really interesting series and the character development of Type was surprisingly good. Although there are many problematic things in this series. The whole issue with Tharn constantly getting on top of Type even though Type was clearly uncomfortable. Like if you wanna fuck with Type because he is homophobic fine you do that but if you’re literally getting on top of him and he’s telling you to stop and get off of him and he was very clearly uncomfortable and scared GET THE FUCK OFF OF HIM. How in the hell did this pass as a romantic drama is beyond me? All you see from start to end is toxicity, molestation, violence and manipulation. And all this going on between the two main leads. The back stories for a few other characters would require them to get urgent psychiatric help. Lets start with some of the characters1. Tharn (Mew): An openly gay character with multiple partners in the past. Nothing wrong with that. But why oh why is he so fascinated by Type! He is diagonally opposite to what Tharn as a character is. I do understand that opposites attract but not with the kind of characters they both have. There is no way Tharn would be attracted to someone like that or atleast that has not been explained. Also, Tharn doesn't appear to care so much about consent. Kissing Type when he is asleep, going down on him when he constantly asks him to stop, showing concern when Type narrates his back story but does everything that would traumatise Type further and becoming a punching bag for Type both physically and verbally.
2. Type (Gulf): A homophobic person who hates gays from the core of his being because as a child he was molested by a man. A good reason to be a homophobe but without any rhyme or reason decides to sleep with Tharn. He doesn't like being labelled as someone in a relationship with another man and hence keeps it from everyone but in the next instance decides to let people know that he is with Tharn. He likes to verbally humiliate Tharn at any chance he gets but Tharn finds this endearing. Gets jealous of Tharn's exes and shows extreme reactions when he even hears their names.
3. Tar (Kokliang): A kid who looks underage is madly in love with Tharn but is going through some issues mentally wherein he can't stand a crowd and rushes home and locks himself in a room. He is a painter but seems to have given up on that due to a traumatic event. A victim of gang-rape by 3 men who drugged him he choses to remain alone and only trusts his brother. He was in a relationship with Tharn and were going strong until he breaks up with him. Later he tries to get back with Tharn and creates a wedge between Tharn and Type but all this due to being manipulated and blackmailed. In the final episode he appears to have been miraculously cured of his mental affliction.
4. Tum (Hiter): Tar's brother and an ex band-member with Tharn. He leaves the band after Tharn and Tar break up and blames Tharn for Tar's current state. Although the series shows that they are brothers, Tum appears to be in love with Tar.
5. Lhong (Kaownah): Tharn's best friend and his band mate who really cares about Tharn. But later we realise he is in love with Tharn and has been the cause of all the break-ups he has suffered. He tells all of Tharn's love interest that he is cheating on them and does the same to cause Type and Tharn to break-up. But if that wasn't enough he hires 3 men to drug and rape Tar and records it to later blackmail Tar to break-up with Tharn.
6. San (AA): A friend of Tharn's older brother who is tasked to take care of him but instead lures him into the music room when Tharn is 14 and has sex with him. Although Tharn states its consensual but we arent informed of San's age at the time so I have my doubts whether this was legal. He still wants to get back with Tharn although Tharn only respects him as a senior/brother.
What we have here are a set up hopelessly terrible characters all surrounding Tharn who himself has no redeeming qualities.
The series brings to light certain sensitive topics like child molestation, homophobia and rape but takes no time in brushing it under the rug with no explanation. It looks like it is used as props and its offensive. Type is still shown to be a homophobe after sleeping multiple times with Tharn going so far as to not talk to his friend who comes out to him. Willingly sleeps with Tharn after balling his eyes out recalling the time he was tied and molested by a grown man when he was just a child. Tar is drugged and gang-raped which causes him trauma but with no specific reason is all fine by the end of the series.
You can watch it for the great performances by all the actors and the music is good but be ready for your sensitivities to be hurt.

Could've been a bit more Healthier
•In terms of chemistry, I can definitely say that this drama deserves it's hype. But when talking about storyline, I have a mixed emotions.•Addressing the elephant in the room, the plot. When I read the synopsis, I expected the story to be a angsty, healing journey between a traumatized Homophobic and an open homosexual. What I never expected was the ride of mixed emotions and questionable actions. Both Tharn and Type are characters who are hard to root or sympathise for. While what happened with Type is understandably effecting him and causing his homophobia, it doesn't justify the way he treats Tharn. His angry and violent outbursts are pretty toxic. He claims himself as straight, but can't think of Tharn with anyone else. Tharn, on the other hand, first came out to me as a homosexual who won't give up to Type's homophobic demands. But the way he molested Type in his sleep was beyond disgusting. Him loving a man who hates his sexuality is twisted and rather pathetic. Plus, they both also have heavy communication problems, which can be seen as inevitable given the circumstances of their relationship.
•MewGulf's acting and chemistry as TharnType is one that I may easily never forget. Despite having re-watched the series 2 months ago, I can still remember the piping hot tension between them. They are on of those Bl couples who chemistry is one a different level. Whether it's their cheesy romantic scenes or hot NC scenes, they devoured it. Individually also, their portrayal of Tharn and Type is powerful, being able to exhibit the intense emotions both the characters have. While I essentially never feel sad during emotional scenes, their acting was enough for me to understand how efficiently Mew and Gulf were able to connect with their characters in depth.
• The other supporting characters like Techno, Thorn, Champ, Lhong, Puifai, etc are also memorable. This is a pretty decent accomplishment, since most BL shows in the present struggle to showcase effective side characters.
•Overall, TharnType the series might not be completely perfect. Though I appreciate the acting of each actor and the chemistry of the main couple, the toxicity and basis of their relationship makes me question it's generalizibility in real life. There could've been more elements added to upgrade the show, but alas this what we got. I like this show, but it's not one that re-watch frequently.

Definitely not everyone's cup of tea, and quite problematic in many parts, but if you watch it while acknowledging that not everything shown should be taken at face value then it can be a fun way to spend a few hours when you're bored.

They will be your type
TharnType was a great rollercoaster of Emotions that everyone should enjoy. A well built set of characters that give you exactly what you need in a good drama.. a great story to follow. Topped of by one of the most excellently executed plot twists ever (though being hinted at when he dropped that glass after being told about the relationship), because while it is not an uncommon occurrence for friends to be protective and jealous. The extent that he went to just had me in awe of his crazy in love antics.Story
Unlike most BL, this one began with a declaration of hate, which took me in. Followed by some seriously childish antics that keep me coming back to see who would give first. The fact that Tharn got the full brunt of Type's hate for persons like him but refused to back down but at the same time still remaining a decent human being, meant a lot to me. You really must have it bad to fall for someone that hates you and you must have been raised well to care for someone that treated you horribly. Life happens and I appreciated how their love seemed to blossom naturally. Thought experience with each other, we learn of Type's backstory, which I think should have been told to Techno, but more importantly made them realised they like each other more than they are willing to admit at first, but after Type got help from Tharn in the shower... How can it really remain as hate?
Lhong's contribution to this story made it so much more real, love is real, but sometimes it is dangerous. Don't want to say anything more because it will be a spoiler.
Acting
The acting from the main and supporting cast was very solid and every one needs to take credit for doing them so well.
Techno - I shouldn't have to say more than that. When you watch the show you will understand.
Type - Sold the hate and his pain very well throughout the entire series, which gave me something to believe when his character began to develope.
Tharn - Sold the secret lover and possesive lover character well throughout the series and the crying scenes made me want to cry. Hats off to you bro.
Lhong - This brother has to be the one that got me in my feels for his final scene, from the street fight to the home scene... The body language, the voice, the emotions, the reasoning, the love confession, the denial, I totally felt it and worst, I understood. You crazy for doing Tae so wrong, but bro I feel you.

Character development done right.
I had a lot of issues with this series in the beginning.Mew does not look like a college student he looks like his actual age which is (at the time of this show airing is 28.) Now Gulf who was 22 at the tie can easily pass for a 19/20 year old college student.
What Tharn did to Type at the end of episode one was uncalled for and is basically sexual harassment. Why he would even want to kiss and give a hickey to his roommate who is homophobic is beyond me. I understand he wants to get back at Type but that’s not the way do to it.
The whole scene when Type insulted Tharn’s dad, I understand Tharn’s initial reaction, the anger, but when he saw how upset and distraught Type became he should have immediately stopped. I will say I did like Gulf’s acting, he really showed his range from being able to go from a loud-mouth ass to a scared man in a split second. I’ve seen reviews where people say Type is a walking red flag and he is, I’m not disagreeing with that but I also think Tharn has some serious red flags as well.
Although I will say that boba scene in episode 2 was pretty funny.
It took a while but I finally understood Tar's storyline. My main issue is this show has so many character we follow I have trouble remembering them all.
I did not really care for Tharn assaulting Type in the shower, that seemed like a bit too much and uncalled for. Type didn’t give consent and I don’t fly with that.
I think Type’s reaction was a little warranted when he pushed the guy off of him that was feeling him up. He said no, they both proceeded to take his picture and while I don’t think he should have said what he did and called him a sissy. I think his reaction was valid. And for them to blast his picture was a little much. Yes, he should not have called him a sissy and said he couldn’t stand people like him (gays) but they are the ones who harassed him in the first place. Plus, it’s funny how they only paint themselves in a good light, they didn’t mention him saying no first and then getting felt up when he was clearly uncomfortable. God, this whole scene makes me mad.
Type coming clean to Tharn about his trauma is a turning point for him. Gulf did a great job portraying the emotions and while it felt a little odd Type just coming straight out and telling Tharn, was a really heartbreaking scene. At least Tharn now knows why Type ‘hates’ him and gay people, it’s because he has unresolved trauma. It’s hilarious watching Techno and Type gush about Tharn in front of their friends and then gaslight the shit out of them.
I’m not sure how I feel about San having sex with a 14 year old Tharn. I don’t know what San’s age is or how old he was during that, plus the fact that Tharn does the same thing with Tar… I also don’t really care for how Thorn is just okay with his best friend having sex with his 14 year old brother, Thorn beating him up once was enough for them to go back to being bffs? Also, the fact that San is so actively trying to pursue Tharn enough that he told his best friend aka Tharn’s brother, and is ignoring the obvious signs Tharn is showing that he’s not interested in him anymore if troubling.
When Tharn defends San kissing him to Type made me mad. I’ll admit San made some good points to Type about his action and disregard to Tharn’s feelings but, you can keep a relationship a secret without it being a big deal. True Type’s main reason was he didn’t want people to know he was dating a man, but he told Techno and admitted he was dating Tharn to San. For Type, that is a big step and shows his slow-going growth. I understand wanting to protect someone but the way San went about it was absolutely wrong for so many reasons. Plus the amount of times Tharn gets punched in this show is kind of ridiculous.
I will say Type had the hreatest character development I've ever seen. I really grew to like his and Tharn's relationship at the end.

Nice Show
**Brief Synopsis**B (Student): Type
T (Student): Tharn
- Beginning: B and T are roommates but T is gay and B starts off as homophobic because of a past experience with a molester. B doesn’t like T because he’s everything he doesn’t like in a person, but T is attracted to B since the beginning and is determined to stand his ground. Despite B’s open hostility, T is determined to stay, especially after finding out the reason B is so against gays which makes him feel bad for teasing B and making him think they slept together. He starts being nicer to B, comforting him and taking care of him in his time of need. Because he is so nice, B starts feeling bad for hating him.
- Middle: As B starts not being so against having T nearby, his feelings for T starts to change. T continues to show his affection to B and confessing to him on a regular basis, but B, despite knowing that T wants to sleep with him, isn’t so against it as before. The change is obvious despite B never admitting it out loud. It’s even more obvious when B agrees to sleep with T as repayment for T helping him out numerous times. After that, B stops being so against T’s PDA or intimate touches and would even kiss T when he notices that he was a little down. Despite not being officially boyfriends, they start getting extremely intimate while alone. They also start being sappy and missing each other when they are apart.
- End: Before they could have their happy ending, T’s ex appears and he wants to break T and B up. He keeps appearing near T and made B misunderstand their relationship. B eventually has enough of feeling like shit second guessing everything and breaks up with T, which really breaks T. But he didn’t really want to break up with T, he wants T to see the ex’s true colours. And when he did, B apologizes to T and confesses his love. They reconcile.
**My Opinion**
WHAT I LIKED ABOUT IT:
- I like how T changes and learns how to take care of B. I really like the scenes when B is unconscious and T is taking care of him. Just by looking at his smile, we can feel the affection he feels for B. Although at this point it’s mostly physical attraction but it’s still pretty cute.
- I really like the straight guy getting confused because he starts being attractive to another guy trope. In real life, sexuality is fluid and you aren’t 100% gay or 100% straight. Love is without gender and you can fall in love with anyone. I like seeing young confused boys figuring themselves out.
- I really like B’s shy little smiles at T’s PDA when he thinks T isn’t looking. I love how much B changes over the course of the series.
- Their relationship develops really fast and while some might consider this too fast and lack build up, it’s nice we don’t have to wait until the last episode. They’re daily as a couple are adorable and they look great together.
- I really like how sappy they are when they are part, missing each other and smiling in to their phones. It’s just so sweet.
- The chemistry between the two actors is just insane. They really look as if they are in love. You don’t need intimate scenes to show their love.
- The crying scenes are really good. Especially the reconciliation scene, it was very emotionally impactful.
WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE ABOUT IT:
- The non con. In the beginning episodes, T would kiss B and touch him without his consent, something B actually seems to be distressed about. He immediately stopped when he found out about B’s past trauma, but that didn’t change the fact he kind of forced himself on B. Although the intention was probably to disgust T and make him freak out, but that doesn’t make this okay. After that there are still moments of dubious consent but T stops if B is showing distress, but when he is only telling him to stop but his body does nothing to push him away, he continues.
- The acting when B is having a freak out is really bad. I know it’s very difficult to act out a freak out nightmare scene, but still, the acting is really unconvincing and it makes the scene awkward to watch.
- I didn’t like the plot with the girl. B starts chatting a girl because he was still a little confused about his feelings at that time and gave the girl hope he is interested. When he inevitably breaks it off, the girl seems extremely sad. He had been intimate with T at that time. It seems extremely dickish to involve an innocent girl in his messy world.
- Use of misunderstandings as method to introduce angst and conflict. For example, B finds out that T has an ex boyfriend he didn’t divulge, leading to conflict. It’s even worst when a friend tells B that he has seen T at the mall with that person. He doesn’t give any context, making B think T is cheating on him. Later on, the boy in question forces himself on T and B sees, although he knows T didn’t do anything, he is terrified by how much T can influence his emotions so breaks up with him. They reconcile but still the reason for the break up is just lazy writing: the ex causing the conflict and brings two lovers to break up.
- There is mention about T being assaulted in the past but no more mention of that is made as if there aren’t any consequences to that.
- The acting is really not good from the ensemble cast, especially in the crying scenes. And sometimes their interactions can feel unnatural.
- There is a lack of intimate scenes but that’s normal for shows of that time.
**Conclusion**
It’s a nice show but it has its problems.

It's a Super Good Show But It Has It's Issues
The overall plot is actually really interesting in terms of Type's trauma and his developing relationship with Tharn. The chemistry between Tharn and Type is also very much so immaculate. My main problem with this show and something that you should be aware of before watching it is the extreme sexual assault. Tharn sexually assaults Type numerous times during the series.*Spoilers Ahead*
In the first episode where Type is unconscious and Tharn is kissing his body or the shower scene in episode two or three in which Tharn forces himself upon Type. All of it is really creepy and it never get's talked about. Tharn also has some super toxic and manipulative character traits.
*End Spoilers*
If you take every action and interaction with a grain of salt, than I think you can really enjoy it but beware of some themes that are rather undesirable. Again, the acting is great and parts of the story are really compelling; the sexual assault is just a non-starter for some people and before you get too deep into the show, you should be mindful of it.

Bom, porém depende.
IREMOS COLOCAR NOSSOS PONTOS SOBRE THARNTYPE ABAIXO:1. ENREDO
3. MÚSICA
- Nada a reclamar, icônico demais.
4. CASTING

A mixed bag
This was a rewatch for me as it was one of the last BL series I watched before life taking over for a few years (plus). It was just as problematic the second time around, and I hate myself for enjoying parts of it, but I did. I'm partial to the main actors, as I think a lot of BL lovers are, and so sometimes I overlook the glaring issues. That being said, despite years between watches, when we got to the exes returning to meddle start of the storyline and then the additional blackmail hot mess express that followed, I remembered a large part of why I was so irritated with the series It felt like a lot of unnecessary drama -- literally just thrown in to draw out episodes. I think that time and energy would've been better spent dealing with Type's not-so-internalized homophobia and maybe starting to better understand and love himself as well as others, but no one asked me so extra drama it was. They also didn't actually deal with the storyline they presented at all. There was no legal involvement for anyone, and the emotional damage of everything and the gravity of the situation was totally glossed over. Hence, again, it was just thrown in to make the plot more dramatic IMHO and without actual forethought or appropriate care.
Techno will probably forever me one of my favorite side characters, though. His facial expressions never ceased to make me laugh and he played the typical side BFF to a T.

Unexpectedly Good
I went into Tharntype with low expectations. I based those on the word of mouth I have seen online. There are problems with this series. The whole subplot of Tar and his rape is not handled in the best way. Moreover, the person who orchestrated the assault of a 10th grader (or possibly a 9th grader, given the timeline) is not punished and is made to look sort of sympathetic in a few scenes. I am including the special episode when I talk about this series. The chemistry between the actors Mew and Gulf is incredibly good. However, even at the start there are issues with the characters. A gay character falling head over heels for a homophobe is a little hard to believe or take seriously, but you go with it. How the show handles Type's childhood trauma of sexual abuse and related issues is better than I expected. I sort of wish this was used to help examine some of Type's homophobia or even some terrible homophobic stereotypes around homosexuality and child abuse. But the series pulls back from that, in part because Type is not exactly the most self-reflective of characters.
The other subplot with Tar and his step-brother Tum is also in Love by Chance, but it just feels weird and it goes nowhere.
The relationship between Tharn and Type eventually becomes rather cute. I also really like the gradualness in how it works. It goes from enemies, to a one night stand, to fuck buddies, to a situationship, to finally being together. Each step was a natural outgrowth of the previous one. There are still deeply problematic elements to their coupling, but I leave that to the fact the characters are 18/19 years old. Honestly for a lot of people there are some toxic elements when in relationships at that age you eventually out grow, but it takes some time.
Another strength of this show is Type's growth as a human being. He goes from being very narrow minded and an extreme hot head to still being hot-headed but a more mature, caring, and thoughtful individual. Type grew because of his love for Tharn. Tharn doesn't really change much throughout the series. We get to meet Tharn's family a handful of times and they are really cute.
A favorite character of mine was Techno (aka No). He was magnificent comedic relief throughout this season. Much funnier than in Love by Chance.
Major weaknesses of the show? Well, there are characters who stop being relevant halfway through. There are some subplots that feel irrelevant or just drop entirely. The way this show treats consent is also quite the red flag in of itself. The villain doesn't really got portrayed in the way they should have. How this aligns with Love by Chance is also quite a head stratcher in terms of making timelines work, because they do not.
