Little Forest (2018)

A young women travels back to her hometown in the outskirts of the countryside to revisit her past memories of food & her mother. Meets with her childhood friends to reconnect in the country life.

Both are filmed beautifully in the country village.

The other name for Japanese movie is Where I belong, the Korean movie both make you feel like they found the place away from the big city is where they belong

The plot is similar in my opinion. While our MC in One Million Yen Girl moves around, the MC in Little Forest simply moves to a rural area (and Little Forest is focused on cooking while One Million Yen Girl isn't). But, I feel like both MC's are running away from themselves until eventually they come to face themselves. The vibes are pretty similar too: pleasant melancholy all around. Similar aesthetic and cinematography in my opinion too.

A girl dis-illussioned by her life in Seoul returns back to her home village, just like the male lead in Yong Jiu Grocery store. The movie is a heart-warming story of life in a village with her new farmer friend who also left his job in a big company.

Countryside, harvesting. Farming. Peaceful feeling. Simplicity, tradition cooking, friendship, family get together.
