One of the best history of the gay genre!
A remarkable film portrays well the hard life of homosexuals of whom they are still relatively few in number. Fortunately, where others choose not to go, writer-director Palatpol Mingpornpichit takes pride in launching himself into the extreme film, showing the emotional ups and downs of homosexual parents by raising a child in an environment that is often far from acceptable by the society. However, it is only the backdrop to a film that deals specifically with the father's reaction to his son's always inquisitive mind about his biological mother and, moreover, as an unexpected visit by Miss Rattiya of the Organization for the Protection of the Rights of the Child.
The film beautifully portrays what genuinely conveys the deep love that both parents hold for each other and for their child, who clearly crave only the best, being sweet, albeit somewhat simplistic, but equally thrilling, while the narrative is not afraid of playing homophobia in a country where same-sex couples still have to fight for the right to marry and where gay parenting is viewed by many as a social stigma. Great movie!

Aggravating and a bit confusing

This movie is one of those who made me feel a lot of anger and frustration partly because society sucks, partly because of the way they chose to show that society sucks... While they did a great job showing the obstacles set by society as well as internalised homophobia and kids can be ***. I found part of the story telling glitchey and a bit lacking. This could be intentional or could be due to budget or issues with the editing causing this very important movie to loose a few points and not live up to its full potential. As I felt that there was just so much left unsaid. While other scenes just felt unnecessary.

That said I do think this is a story that needs to be told, as they do bring up a lot of angles that rarely get space in media about the complexity of issues regarding rule of law, vs rule of society. For example they talk about the how gaining the right to wed will on the one hand give same sex couples the same lawful rights as hetero couples, however registering that marriage will make way to new problems such as having ones kid. stamped as part of a gay family forever... Is it okay to let ones kid stand in the frontline in a not so inclusive society?

So while I do appreciate the issues seen, I am not 100% sure about how they went about showing them... making me settle for an 8 star rating, so yes watch it but beware it is not perfect and will probably aggravate you for more than one reason.

"Being father is easy, anyone could say he's a good father"

The only word I can think of to describe this film is "unfair". It's complicated to be homesexual in the society you live in, even more complicated when you have children, especially in a country where your partner has no legal rights over them.

The situation in which Phoon and Yuke find themselves calls into question the very essence of what they have built, a family, a couple, confidence in themselves and in their own sexuality. Everything falls apart overnight and Phoon's old demons don't help. But the most unfair thing is that everything Butr has to go through, he's just a curious child, with questions he has a right to ask, especially if nothing has been explained to him.

In the end, it's complicated because we can tell ourselves that Phoon's decision is unfair, but the film wouldn't have such an impact if he hadn't made that kind of decision. Cause in real life, some people react in unexpected and unconstructive ways when they love too much or when fear takes over.

A poignant film that is a must-see!

Boring and Nonsensical!

Boring and nonsensical! Stupid social worker! I cannot with her! I'm pretty sure that what she is doing is illegal. And all her reasons that a child needs a mother are pathetic! There are a ton of single fathers whose children grow up happy and healthy. Same with children of same-sex couples.

Films like these are kinda dangerous. They perpetuate the idea that adopted children will choose their birth parents over the ones who raised them. They make adoption look unfavorable, which is why so many people don't want to adopt. Because they fear that their children will want to search for their birth parents and choose them when I'm pretty sure that all children just want parents, whether they be adopted or not.

And the idea that being raised by gay parents can make a child gay is absolutely absurd and ridiculous. The fact that the film portrays gay people with this fear is all the more comical. As gay people, they should know that being gay is not a choice.

I particularly liked this movie, which deals with the delicate subject of two gay dads bringing up a child in a society, where homosexuality is still a stigma, and where kids at school are hard and unforgiving as everywhere, but mostly live following the values and stereotypes they have heard at home. There are multiple aspects to this story, and what I particularly liked is the lack of judgement or prejudice from the film director. He shows us the lifes of all the protagonists, with their beliefs, their doubts, their love and what they respect. Of course, central to this story is this little boy who grows in a family different from others, but we learn he is actually luckier than some other people in the movie. He has love, and love is the only thing you need to build your life, whether it comes from one mum, one dad, two of each, two of the same, or even recomposed families as it happens sometimes. We also learn that life is not linear, and that what you have thought you have built, can be taken away at one point, if you are not careful to protect it and nurture it. Finally it's a universal story since the problems and the joys that this family is going through in modern Thailand, are the same everywhere, to varying degrees. It will take years for laws to change, but also many more years for society to be more tolerant towards one another and recognize that the core values which make a family function, are not related to gender or number of parents... I hope this movie will help change people's hearts. I truly recommend this movie, which will make you realize the chance you've had, or the chance you could have had when growing up. It will give you hope that one day, all families will be accepted however they are built, and celebrated for the love they bring to all their members.

nothing important than family

this film teaches me how love is not concerned with what their gender is but love is a feeling of 2 people who love each other without being concerned about who they are.
maybe not all family built by woman and man who fall in love and become family but family consists of love and mutual desire to protect one another not just to form a family, the family is not measured by gender but the happiness created in it.
this film tells a small family of 2 fathers and a child they adopted.
the child was teased by his friend because he didn't have a mother but he finally found out that it wasn't always what people said made him happy and finally he chose his two fathers back

*sobs happily*

To preface; this is the first MDL review that I've wrote that got over 7 stars. I don't know why it's rated so low. Maybe they didn't read the description beforehand and didn't know what they were getting into. But it was beautiful. Of course, there's something lacking and I think it's partially the final reconciliation. The other part is a bit more backstory on "Daddy" (I can't remember his name my apologies) because, while I grasped the concept, I would've liked a little more detail. I think that would've been the 10 stars in my opinion.

Either way, I haven't been floored by a BL drama until I watched this. I found myself really digging into the psyche to piece them all together. That child actor was adorable, but also astounding in his role. Definitely watch it.

STORY: The details section covers this well. It's a powerful story that deals heavily with gay rights and adoption. Happy ending.

ACTING/CAST: The little boy stole the show for me. The rest of the cast were OK but most were so one-dimensional. Only Yuke seemed to have any real passion.

MUSIC: Standard fare.

REWATCH VALUE: I may watch it again sometime if I have a friend along for the ride.

OVERALL: The story plods along slowly. There are lots of scenes with no dialog, as intended I'm sure. It's a good movie but a bit slow for me.

being lgbtq+ is definitely not easy. nor is being a parent. fathers makes you remember the struggles that one has to go through to successfully raise a child; and the struggles of trying to lead a normal life as part of a group that is ostracised by society. how do we know that what we’ve done is right? what do we do?
this film is frustratingly heart wrenching, with a lot of social commentary and a highlight familial situations, not only adoption by a gay couple. however, it reveals a hard hitting reality that we often forget but must inevitably face.

Realistik!
