Both dramas are directed and written by the same director/writers and Deep Rooted Tree serves as a direct sequel to Six Flying Dragons.
It follows the story of King Sejong who is Lee Bang Won (King Taejong)'s son (he appears in the last episode of SFD).
Since the two dramas are written by the same writers, many characters are interrelated such as Moohyul and Lee Bangji who are actually made up characters. Also, Mokya, Parkpo, etc. who are supporting characters in Deep Rooted Tree made special appearances in the last episode of SFD.
I highly recommend watching DRT where you can see the older and the more mature Moosa Moohyul.
It's really heart-warming to see recurring characters and you'll end up missing SFD but then again, you'll fall in love with the new ones from DRT.
P.S. Although Shin Sekyung appears in DRT, she takes on the role of a different character :)

Both tell a story about founding a kingdom. Moon Lovers is based on the beginning of the Goryeo dynasty while Six Flying dragons is based on the foundation of the Joseon dynasty.

Both dramas have a similar vibe to them, be it the plot or the acting. Both dramas will make you smile and cry a lot. The music & cinematography in both dramas is also superb.

Both are the stories of power play, entanglement into politics and scheming which are inspired by the Asian history. Both center around secret organizations and backroom deals, lofty ideals and seeking for justice.
However, the characters of NiF are absolutely fictional, it has something of fantasy , it shows how justice prevails at the end whereas SFL aspires to some real historicity and believability (though there are also flying martial artists there), its characters are more realistic and multi-dimensional.
Also NiF looks more expensive and the plot is a little bit more suspensefull and accelerated, imho.

Both series do have a similar type of plot in which two main characters are fighting for justice in a way. One from a poor family and one from a rich family.

The epic music!! And the epic story are really similar. The main lead Hong Gil Dong also played here and this was the reason why he also could land a lead role in Rebel. The story here, however, is more complex because it depicts the fall of Georyeo and the creation of Jeoseon.

Both series have partly same historical characters. But the biopic Jeong Do Jeon is not so explosive.

Both of these dramas are about the foundation of a Kingdom. Six Flying Dragons is about the transition from Goryeo to the foundation of Joseon; and Jumong is about a prince from Buyeo who forms his own Kingdom, Goguryeo.

They mention several times Queen Seon Duk and Bidam.
Also Bidam actions in Queen Seon Duk have consequences in Six Flying Dragons.

Other similarities:
- Same writers.
- Politics.
- The "bad" characters are also very charming.
- Strong female characters.
- Both dramas tell historical events.
- Almost there is no romance (Is more subtle compared to SFD).
- Action.

They have more things in common, like the treatment of the characters and the drama structure (the sequel A tree with deep roots also follow the same structure).

Both dramas are centered around the same premise and history and same 50 episodes. If you are more into something more mature, historical accurate and grounded check out Jeong Do Jeon.
For those into more to action, adventure, romance check out six flying dragons. Or do both, they are all very well made dramas.

Same main roles!
Which make you think fashion King is their next life!!!

Both are fundamentally stories about leadership that explore similar themes, such as the pragmatism vs. idealism and the relationship between rulers and subjects, by presenting characters who, despite being ideologically opposed, are all seeking what they believe to be the best solutions to the issues confronting their country.

In addition to one being a 50 episode drama while the other is a film, they are substantially different in terms style and atmosphere. The Fortress is far more understated, while Six Flying Dragons is more dramatic and exciting. Though their stories and plots are very different, both are based on pivotal historical figures and events.

I recommend this with some reservations because these dramas are quite different from each other in terms of what the main story is focused on (politics vs. action). However, people who particularly enjoyed the martial arts elements and bromance between Bangji and Moohyul in Six Flying Dragons, will likely be interested in Warrior Baek Dong Soo. For someone who enjoyed Warrior Baek Dong Soo, Six Flying Dragons is another historical drama with exciting martial arts face offs and friendship-rivalry relationships, but it also has a stronger political plot and more thematic depth.

Totally recommend. It totally remind me of how smart the storyline change&improve. I'm not a good english speaker so i can't express how every character compliment each other.

If you take away the supernatural time-traveling theme with the main girl, it revolves around King Gongmin, Princess Nagook and General Choi Young who seem to play a bit role in the background of the Six Flying Dragons. It's definitely a good drama to watch either before or at the same time as Six Flying Dragons to get a good background picture as to why Goryeo is looking the way it does in Six Flying Dragons.

Haechi is about how twisted the political condition in Joseon Dynasty. On the other side, Six Flying Dragons consist of 50 episodes, from the journey how Goryeo Dynasty become Joseon till all the civil war that happen. Both are heavy historical political drama and have good actors.
