Waiting for his lover
I am a great fan of all phases of Wallace Chung's talent. This drew me to this series, and is the reason I am continuing to watch it and will re-watch parts of it.His singing of the theme song drew me in further.
The major flaw appears to be, as I havent read the novel, trying to use too much of the novel on the screen.
We have two mediums, and they aren't completely interchangeable. As a result, the plot drifts from the main theme over and over, taking far too long to tell this story.
The story itself is a good one, with a beautiful message on the differences in love and the diamond sharp beauty of unconditional love.
Wallace Chung's character is developed well. Chung's performance is complete as always.
The cinematography is exquisite,a feast.
The theme song done by Wallace Chung is lovely! Soundtrack otherwise is often far too loud and off putting.
This piece needs a more condensed storyline and major editing for cohesiveness. While part of this can be attributed to censorship, the film needs more work for polish and smoothness. It deserves it.
This is a fascinating story with superb actors. I do recommend the film, in spite of some repetitiveness and length.
I love this series. It is flawed, but the acting and cinematography is superb. It has a happy ending!

An Unnecessary Twist
An interesting story with a surprising twist at the end. While the plot developed well, the final decision of the protagonist to flee and join a war in another country felt out of place and unnecessary. It left the audience questioning the motivations behind such an abrupt conclusion, especially when everything seemed to resolve well beforehand. The ending takes an even stranger turn as the protagonist and their partner make love amidst the chaos of the armed conflict, adding confusion to the narrative.Considerați utilă această recenzie?

divertido!!

A High-Potential Fantasy Romance Undermined by Format and Execution
“The Director Who Buys Me Dinner” delivers an intriguing premise: a young employee, Dongbaek, finds himself entangled in a centuries-old curse with his enigmatic CEO, Min Yu Dam. Adapted from the webtoon by Toesa and illustrated by Yang Eun Ji, the series had all the ingredients for a standout South Korean BL drama—fantasy, romance, and mystery. Unfortunately, it falls short of its potential due to its constrained format and underdeveloped storytelling. The short episode runtime—a staple of Korean BL dramas—proved to be a significant disadvantage here. With only 10 episodes, each averaging 16 minutes (minus credits and recaps), the series simply didn’t have enough time to delve deeply into its characters or unravel its fantasy elements. The result is a story that feels rushed and undercooked, leaving viewers with more questions than answers.
The fantasy premise is ambitious and unique, hinting at a love story spanning centuries. However, key elements of the curse remain unexplored: How did the curse originate? Why is it a curse at all? What happened during the centuries between the first Dongbaek and the present one? The lack of explanations makes the narrative feel incomplete and frustrating.
Character development also suffers. Dongbaek, the protagonist, often feels like a passive participant in his own story, reacting rather than engaging. Min Yu Dam, despite his tragic backstory, lacks the emotional depth and desperation one might expect from someone burdened with immortality. Denis, introduced as a potential wildcard, ends up feeling like a plot device with unclear motivations.
The series’ title suggests a recurring motif of dinners between Dongbaek and Yu Dam, but this stops after the first couple of episodes, which feels like a missed opportunity to build their relationship. Similarly, the chemistry between the leads is inconsistent, with their romantic moments often feeling restrained and lacking the passion needed to sell their connection.
That said, there are bright spots. The cinematography is polished, with several well-composed shots that enhance the story’s atmosphere. The music complements key moments, although it occasionally compensates for the lack of emotional resonance in the performances. The ending, while divisive, stands out as one of the show’s better-executed elements, offering a bittersweet conclusion that feels thematically fitting.
Ultimately, The Director Who Buys Me Dinner is a classic case of a great concept let down by its execution. The short format robbed the story of its depth, leaving viewers with unresolved questions and untapped potential. While the production team’s effort is evident, the series needed more time and resources to fully explore its ambitious narrative.
For fans of BL dramas, it’s worth a watch for the unique premise and some enjoyable moments. However, it serves as a reminder that certain stories require more room to breathe, and perhaps this one deserved a format that could do its fantasy romance justice.

Loved this drama!!!
Thousand years for you has long been on my watchlist and finally I am glad that I have watched it.The plot mainly revolves around Lu Yan, the general of the ancient Shu dynasty who patiently waits for the return of YunXi,the saintess of the spirit clan for 3000 years. He accidentally encounters Yu Dengdeng who is the embodiment of none other than Yun Xi.
Then begins the story of pure love entangled with mysteries and conspiracies unraveling deadly secrets along the journey to achieve peace between the human and spirit races.
Ren Jialun as Lu Yan, is cool, smart, decent, matured, very reserved, well balanced and duty oriented general who devotes himself to the protection of the people of the ancient Shu dynasty, precisely the human clan. His acting was excellent as he could express emotions through eyes with almost very few dialogues for him to deliver for his role.Ren Jialun, really appears as a classical hero for me and once again this drama proves it to be true.
Li Qing as,Yun Xi/Yu Dengdeng is perfectly cast for her role.I cannot imagine anyone else except for her. From her portrayal as the noble, peace loving, caring, kind, loyal saintess to a tomboyish, naughty, domineering yet cheerful, kind, loving, caring, courageous and brave Chieftain ,she is excellent all the way.Her dialogue delivery was also good. She brought life to the character of the Saintess and Chieftain, imo.
I liked the story of Gu Beixi and Bai Shiqi, though it was short lived.
Xin,Dahai,Deng deng's father and Uncle, are the ones that everyone need in their lives.Their support and love towards Yu DengDeng and Lu Yan is unparalleled.
All the actors did an excellent job in bringing life to the whole drama.
The story keeps you hooked with different types of conspiracies and obstacles that always stumble on the way of the protagonists and their friends. Many secrets unfold as they move from one place to another.
The costumes, sets, locations, visual effects and ost were also good. The background music matched well with the scenes. The flow of this drama is very consistent without any deviations.
Also,I really liked the little conversation between Lu Yan as general and saintess YunXi.
Their moments ,though were very short on screen, surely impress us.I really enjoyed these scenes.
On a conclusion note, Thousand years for you is an enjoyable, impressive, simple drama. It showcases pure love between two individuals which remained eternal even after 3000 years.
It blends mysteries with morals perfectly and strikes the right balance with the audience.
A HIGHLY RECOMMENDED DRAMA 👍👍

" In the vast sea, how likely is it that a lost fish gets to reunite with it's shoal!"
At its heart, this drama is all about the characters - their struggles, growth and the quiet, powerful moments that shape them. It relies heavily on what is unspoken and unsaid rather than grand gestures.Since this is a character-driven narrative, I will not delve into the story by its events but by what both the main characters brought to the table and how they allow themselves to be seen. (Spoiler free)
Hirukawa Haruki: Hirukawa's character is deeply shaped by the trauma and abuse he endured from his parents, especially from his dad. At the first glance, he is what you call a high school delinquent - rebellious, tough and indifferent to all those around him, making him unapproachable and even slightly intimidating.
Despite his tough demeanour, he unintentionally internalises the abuse and starts to believe that he is no better than his father! While his father had a major role but I feel his mother is equally responsible too for abandoning him and never actually checking up on him. Her lack of empathy towards him only reinforced his feeling of being unworthy and making his sense of self-worth fragile.
But after meeting with Minase, something shifts. Minase sees him for who he is with all his flaws and still doesn’t judge him. That acceptance brings out the side of Hirukawa he has kept hidden and guarded . That tenderness, hope, and a desire for a future that doesn’t feel so impossible when he is around Minase.
His journey is all about healing, slowly learning that he deserves love even though his past still haunts him. Minase slowly became his anchor, helping him realize that love and acceptance aren’t just for other people but for him too and he is most deserving of them!
Minase Jin: Minase is initially a passive observer, standing and watching from the sidelines as a spectator of his high school drama. At first, he seemed like a perfect student with great grades, well-mannered and seemingly unaffected by the complexities of life. But beneath the surface of this ideal life lies a man under high societal expectations from his mother and where his future is laid out to him with certainty without considering his choice.
He keeps his distance from Hirukawa because he is aware of the difference between his privileged life and that of trouble markers. Though the distance is not out of judgment but is more like a quiet fear of disrupting the delicate and carefully constructed life.
But as Minase slowly begins to understand Hirukawa the walls start to crumble. His growing affection for Hirukawa is not only deeply romantic but very empathetic and accepting. His love for Hirukawa becomes the catalyst for his own self-discovery to confront his fears and insecurities.
Minase started as a spectator in his own life but with Hirukawa he learns to actively engage with the world around him.
Together they created a safe place for each other where they can grow and heal, both together and individually. They transcend all societal expectations with a delicate balance of vulnerability and strength.
Slowly the distance between them is replaced by a quiet understanding that what once appeared to be a different universe is actually not so far apart.
Both the actors delivered nothing short of amazing performance considering this was my first time seeing them. They managed to capture the raw, unspoken pain of their characters with such grace and authenticity. Every subtle gesture, those gazes and the deep internal monologue felt real.
The cinematography is stunning, especially the water scenes capturing the stillness and movement of the water in contrast to the feelings in perfect harmony.
Also, the title track OST was very catchy and beautifully complemented the scene wherever it was used.
Overall, this was a heartfelt exploration of growth, vulnerability and healing which was both raw and hopeful. I am definitely recommending this. This as a binge watch would give a better watching experience than on air.

hipnotizante
Super passo pano para o último episódio. A gente tira 30 min. do EP final e tá tudo certo.

Ring Ring, Real Romance is Calling
{ Remember this is just my opinion, don't take it personally 😊 }I'm just going to say it: 'When the Phone Rings' is the drama equivalent of a triple-shot espresso – it's a wild, heart-racing ride that will leave you breathless and begging for more. The leads' chemistry? On fire! The plot twists? Expertly crafted to keep you on the edge of your seat. The romance? So cheesy and scrumptious, it's glorious.
It's a love letter to fans of clichéd, over-the-top romance – and I am HERE. FOR. IT. The writers leaned into every trope, and I devoured it like a starving person at a feast. I ravaged every scene, every moment, every swoon-worthy glance – it was like I'd been deprived of oxygen for years and finally found air.
Yoo Yeon Seok and Chae Soo Bin are absolute magic on screen. Their passion and chemistry is palpable and utterly captivating. This drama is filled with tension-filled moments that are steamy and delicious, making for a truly electrifying watch. The sparks between them are undeniable, with even a single glance igniting a fiery connection that's impossible to ignore.
Sa Eon's character, in particular, is a complex, flawed gem. Growing up without love or care, he learned to navigate life by following orders and playing a predetermined role. This upbringing has instilled in him a deep-seated sense of unworthiness, making him believe he doesn't deserve love.
Throughout the drama, Sa Eon's actions are a poignant reflection of his deeply ingrained emotional scars. Initially, he pushes Hee Joo away, fearing his own emotional inadequacy. Later, despite developing intense feelings for her, he falls back into the same pattern, attempting to shield her from his perceived flaws. He just wants to protect Hee Joo from any more hurt or pain. It's crazy to me why this aspect is so frequently misinterpreted.
People need to remember that not everyone has healthy attachment styles; some people quite literally run away from their issues. It's truly unfortunate that certain viewers struggle to accept complex, flawed characters. Nobody is perfect, after all. Our male lead, in particular, is still navigating his emotions and grappling with the aftermath of a tumultuous past. Can't we offer him some understanding and empathy?
Sa Eon's decision to leave wasn't a cowardly escape, but a desperate attempt to atone for his family's dark past. By donating his inheritance, quitting his job, and risking his life to help captives in Argan, Sa Eon sought redemption, punishing himself for the sins of his father. The revelation of his father's true nature shattered Sa Eon's sense of identity, leaving him reeling from the trauma and baggage of a lifetime of lies. His actions were a powerful reflection of his character, as he took responsibility for the harm caused by his father's actions, even though he was innocent. This poignant portrayal of guilt, shame, and the weight of legacy added depth to Sa Eon's journey, making his ultimate healing and love all the more satisfying.
On the other hand, Hong Hee Joo's character offers a poignant contrast. Forced into silence for most of her life, she was consistently ignored and belittled, despite harboring a depth of emotions waiting to be unleashed. Some critics argue that she should have prolonged her phone calls and blackmail, but the crucial point is that Sa Eon discovered her involvement and accepted her nonetheless.
His unwavering love and acceptance of Hee Joo, flaws and all, are a testament to the transformative power of their relationship. Sa Eon's desire to protect and ensure Hee Joo's happiness and safety underscores the depth of his emotions, and serves as a beautiful counterpoint to the trauma and pain they both endured.
Hee Joo's character undergoes a profound transformation throughout the 12 episodes, culminating in a remarkable display of resilience in the final two episodes. Despite being kidnapped, starved, and exhausted, she summons the strength to escape and flee for her life – a testament to her unyielding spirit.
I adore how both characters, despite their flaws, complement each other perfectly. They courageously look beyond their painful pasts and choose to love each other unconditionally. After being neglected and ignored for so long, they truly deserve this kind of love. To me, Sa Eon and Hee Joo are soulmates.
Their unshakeable commitment to each other is inspiring. No matter the distance or obstacles, they're determined to find their way back to each other and fight for their love. The promise they made to each other remains rock-solid until the very end exemplifying the transformative power of their bond.
The scene where Hee Joo believes Sa Eon has been shot may have sparked confusion among some viewers, but it's essential to consider the context. Having fallen and hit her head, Hee Joo is disoriented and not in a clear mental state. This pivotal moment is intentionally crafted to keep viewers on the edge of their seats, guessing what will unfold in the finale.
While the final episode was undoubtedly rushed and choppy, I'm willing to overlook its flaws. Why? Because I had an absolute blast watching it! The plot may have gone off the rails, but who needs coherence when you're treated to Sa Eon rocking a sexy military outfit, armed and ready to save the day? That scene was pure, unadulterated gold – straight out of a telenovela.
The reunion scene, in particular, was everything I could have hoped for. Although the drama took some liberties with the novel, it managed to capture the essence of the story while still delivering some delightfully bizarre moments. For me, it was a wild, entertaining ride that hit all the right spots.
In short, this K-drama was ridiculously bingeable and so much fun! I had an absolute blast each week, especially in the comments section, eagerly discussing the latest plot twists with fellow fans. I'm also fervently hoping for a season 2 – and to those who might protest, I say: you don't have to watch it but I will! I genuinely believe there's more story to be told, particularly with Sa Eon and Do Jae joining forces as an unstoppable duo. The prospect of them fighting crime as badass partners is absolute perfection, and I'm craving more!
I’m also eager to see Sa Eon and Hee Joo’s relationship blossom further, perhaps even expanding their family, iykyk. The possibility of Do Jae and In A exploring a romance, despite being an unlikely pair, also has me intrigued. All in all, I think there’s a wealth of untapped potential, and I, for one, would be thrilled to see more. So bring on season 2!
The naysayers can't ruin this drama for me. I'm ignoring the controversy surrounding that one 30-second scene – it’s, a minor blip on the radar of an otherwise phenomenal drama. This drama simply is a wild, emotional ride that will leave you breathless – finally a story with real romance. The leads' chemistry especially is on fire, and they take you on an emotional journey that will capture your heart. The show's writers bravely leaned into every trope, and I truly devoured each moment with gusto.
With its bold execution, good performances, and addictive romance, When The Phone Rings was an unforgettable viewing experience that will be ingrained in my mind for years to come.
If you are still skeptical, I urge you to ignore the noise and see for yourself!
Thank you for reading 🩵

I loved everything about this sweet drama. Watching Folk cry so desperately was truly heartbreaking and showcased incredible emotional depth. Both lead actresses were wonderful, with great chemistry that made their bond feel genuine. I hope to see them work together again in the future. The entire cast was talented and brought charm and authenticity to their roles. The last episode was especially heartwarming; I’ve rewatched it many times and still find it moving every single time. It left a lasting impression and wrapped up the story beautifully. Great job to everyone involved in this touching production!Considerați utilă această recenzie?

Literally Bawling... [FIRST PART NO SPOLIERS]
It’s literally 4am as I’m writing this.. First of all this is my first Chinese drama, and it was really good. I don’t normally like watching shows more than 16 eps since they tend to loose me and the plot typically gets boring. But honestly this one had me hooked. It was wholesome and heartbreaking at times. Literally went through the 5 stages of grief. This drama made me do a lot of self reflection.. how every day is to not be taken for granted. What if there is a day where I can’t sing, or do the things I love one day? It’s sad to think about, but it really rose that question for me. Sometimes life throws curve balls that just suck, but we should live each day to the fullest cause we aren’t guaranteed tomorrow. I loved this drama so much. And might I add ALS and all incurable diseases can actually suck my behind … because actually fuck off 😭😭😭 Definitely watch this if you are thinking otherwise!! I like to add my little thoughts that are technically spoilers, so don’t look below if you haven’t watched!!****************** [SPOLIERRR COMMENTS] *********************
I’m glad the ending wasn’t depressingly tragic because I think I would’ve jumped out my window LOL. It’s technically open for interpretation tho which I thought was nice. I will say…. I was heated for a good 10 eps 💀💀💀 Lin Tuo spent such a long time not telling anyone about what was going on, and it lowkey had my blood boiling… I understand it was something hard to process for him, and that came with a lot of denial, but at the same time.. my boy is stubborn 😭

Not worth watching
The drama started great and was kinda refreshing given the two leads were both from rich families, not poor girl meets rich man kind of, but the drama fell off especially with the last two episodes, what's wrong with karma, having a good beginning but a terrible ending. Their drama is also increasingly toxic, once someone is adopted into a rich family, it's impossible to find love because every rich parent and siblings in kdrama is horrible, while the only people capable of loving their family are the poor ones. I thought they had left this troupe behind in 2012, but here we are. Then the unnecessary plot twist at the end made me like the female lead when she was mute and not talking, I disliked the character so much in episode 12. Chinese drama are better with world building and telling wholesome stories, I hope Chinese pop culture catches on soon and they start taking themselves seriously to kick off kdrama off the global obsession. At least thankfully they didn't portray any African "Aprika" country as a worn torn zone that needed the generosity of South Korea yet again. I'm beginning to think these people are just really toxic in real life like their dramas.Considerați utilă această recenzie?

I'm so happy I'm a curious person because I don't think I would've found this if I wasn't .This drama is quite literally one of the most beautifully made things ever. It's so beautifully written, the characters are so loveable and well crafted, it has the most beautiful cinematography. The leads have SUCH GOOD CHEMISTRY my heart fluttered every time they were on screen together. Please watch this underrated masterpiece!
