i haven't watched a modern drama in a while and skate into love kept trending on weibo so i decided to check it out. i consider it my rebound cdrama after being left emotionally depressed by the last one i watched and it didn't disappoint.
storyline:
i really enjoyed the whole ice sports theme, not a very common one when it comes to tv shows. the enemies to lovers plot is a favorite of mine and tx and lyb's relationship was a very good example of that. their bickering in the beginning as well as the little childhood memories made a super sweet and fluffy first couple of episodes. for me, everything was nice until around the time they finally got together and that creep bian cheng showed up. the amount of times i wanted to throw my remote at the tv during episodes 30-40. . .
the plot become a tad bit too cliche for me and you honestly could've predicted a lot that happened in those episodes. i disliked the constant cameos with the side couples and oh my god bian cheng and yu yan completely annoyed the heck out of me. i think, had tang xue and li yubing actually talked about everything (this honestly goes for every drama i've watched, these characters need to learn to communicate!) they wouldn't have had that misunderstanding and lyb might have avoided that injury. even if tang xue couldn't tell him about yu yan's situation, she could've explained it better and not just straight up lied to his face about exactly what she was doing. the ending was a bit disappointing for me, given that the doctor literally said "he might not be able to return to the state he was at before ever again" and then boom, two years later and yubing is all fine and back on the rink again.
overall the story was pretty good with a few things the directors really should've clarified and fixed.
cast:
wu qian is a really good actress. tang xue is not a easy role to take on. her outspoken, sometimes even brash way of standing up for herself and others can easily annoy some people, but wu qian depicted it quite well. li yubing's actor is, i think, fairly new to the entertainment circle, but he played his part quite well. supporting actors are great, and jiang shijia made me laugh so hard. he definitely fits the "best friend role who's only there for comic relief" stereotype, but i enjoyed his parts in the show anyway.
music:
10/10, i love the osts. they are well suited for the theme of the show. the opening song has the competitive and youth-y feel of college aged athletes striving for the top. the other songs were super sweet and i think depicted tang xue and li yubing's relationship quite well. snow is falling by zhou shen is definitely a personal favorite of mine.
rewatch value:
not really sure about rewatching this one, i feel like the hilarious yet cheesy humor might get old after the first time and just seem cringy. howver, i think the lighthearted plot would be a good distraction and might rewatch the show if i ever need to recover from watching particularly angsty wuxia/xianxia ones
