Both are noona romances with smiling, cute younger male leads falling head over heels in love with older women who are struggling with their lives in their late 30s.

Both also show the struggles of women in their work place. In Something in the Rain, it is the inherent sexism in the office. In Romance is a Bonus Book, it is about someone having to prove themselves all over again after a career break.

In both cases, the ML helps and support the FL to grow and face her problems, but the FL eventually fights her battles herself. In both, the FLs also have annoying exes who did not value them.

Funnily, the guy who plays the annoying younger brother to the FL in Something in the Rain, is the very nice and respectful second male lead in Romance is a Bonus Book.

For Hyun bin.

Both shows have Hyun Bin in action. While MOTA has a convoluted plotline with romance on the side, CLOY has romance at the centre stage with an equally evolved plot on the sidelines.

I like CLOY's ending better though. And I also like the pairing with Son Ye-jin a lot more.

From the same writer, Song Jae-jung, both have the a fantasy world that the male lead is trapped in and the female lead is the key to escape. In W, the male lead is a comic book character and he pulls the female lead in. In MOTA, the male lead is hacked by an AI game and the female lead's avatar is a solution. And in both cases, the problem was created by someone related to the female lead.
While W is heavy on romance with Lee Jong-suk, MOTA is heavy on action with Hyun Bin.
Unfortunately, both also have confusing or convoluted endings, for no good reason.

This is the perfect show to get over the CLOY hangover:

* Both stories are romantic comedies without excess baggage
* Male leads are soldiers, good-looking in their uniforms and protective of their people
* Female leads are strong characters and survivors no matter what life throws at them
* Chemistry between the leads is phenomenal; after both shows the leads ended up dated IRL
* The second pair are also very cute with some rivalry between the female leads
