Ah the Classic Heartstrings
So I actually watched this drama when I was in middle school back in 2014. I found this drama after finding out the leads were from the drama You're Beautiful!
Story- Back in 2014, I would have said it was my favorite drama then. However, now as I am writing this review, I have been watching Korean dramas for about 7 years and honestly, this is not the best drama if you look at it from a critical perspective. It is a cute light-hearted college romance drama. The beginning may seem slow cause the plot ends up doing this one-sided love for a bit since Lee Shin likes the teacher in the start, but he comes around. Lee Shin is like the cold/tsundere main lead, and Kyu Lee Won is the happy/optimistic girl, so of course, opposites attract and they get together. It was interesting though getting to see the battle of the bands between traditional Korean instruments Vs modern instruments. I also liked the school where they filmed most of the drama as well.
Acting - The acting was pretty average I think, nothing too extraordinary. Maybe Yongwha could have been a bit more expressive but I also understand his character is supposed to be cold anyway. I had a major crush on Jung Yong Wha back then so I stuck with this drama. I didn't like the kiss scenes, but to be honest, I do not like Park Shin Hye's kiss scenes in general so that's just me lol. I also actually liked Kang Minhyuk's character a lot and he was so precious.
Music - the ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK for this drama is GOLD, it's a whole bop. So even though the drama plot is meh, getting to hear the great music played throughout the drama made me stay. I loved the OST so much that in middle school I bought the soundtrack from iTunes and it's still catchy today. The OST really saved the drama overall.
Rewatch value - I have probably rewatched it 3-4 times, but I mostly rewatch it for the nostalgia factor. It takes me back to my middle school days, and a feel all giddy/excited re-watching it haha. However, I think many people who may watch it, it's like a one-and-done watch. I have a personal attachment with this drama, so even though the plot isn't anything remarkable, I will still put it in my top favorites.
Honestly, if you want a nostalgic, light-hearted romance, music kdrama binge, I would give it a try! It came out in 2011, so just keep in mind some of it might seem a bit outdated or cringe haha.
