I love TVB dramas, they're like my guilty pleasure. With more and more mainland productions with amazing actors, costume, directors, cinematography, of course you see why TVB dramas have been LACKING. TVB likes to reuse the same actors, as well as the same formula with their dramas and this one falls into that category.
The story revolves around our four main characters. Ming But (By Bobby Yeung) is a roaming street performer, that moves around with his adopted family. They get caught up in a murder-scandal involving an official, thus the official secretly tells the guards to "kill" off his family. He ends up in a hotel and switches outfits with Kiu Bo Lung (Evergreen Mak) causing KBL and his father to get caught in a fire. KBL loses his memory and his father passes away. MB finds out what happens, and decides to honor them (he feels guilty for causing their deaths) and pays for a burial and assume KBL's identity. MB finds out that KBL has been offered a position to help with the imperial dance troupe, and the top school gets a bonus of GOLD (lots of it). Greed takes over, so he continues to assume the identity of KBL. Meanwhile, the real KBL makes his way into the same city and ends up working in the school (first as chef then a music director), while trying to remember his past.
Linda Chung plays the role of Bin Yuk Yin, a FAMOUS dancer that has the capabilities of being the new primadonna of the dance troupes. The primadonna of the year gets the option of marrying into the royal family, or gets the title of princess. She wants to win back her family fame, as her father was a famous general. Myolie Wu places Lei Tsoi Shan, the girl that delivers firewood. She lives in the city and grows up rugged. Her mom guilt-trips her into becoming a dancer to "find her father."
The four have their lives intertwined, as KBL is betrothed to BYY but, BYY believes her betrothed is the fake KBL. Meanwhile real KBL tries to figure out why he has such intense feelings for BYY. LTS ends up butting heads with fake KBL and the two fall in love, thus causing a rift between BYY and the fake KBL (whom she assumes is her future husband).
The pairings in this drama is off between our actors. I thought the ladies were much too pretty for the guys. But their interactions were pretty funny and some parts touching.
As mentioned, this fits the formula with TVB dramas. Of course there can't be a drama without DRAMA. Some are very predictable, like when LTS gets framed for trying to upstage BYY so the two ladies are no longer besties and hate each other, but you're watching and you're like NOOOOOO it was the other girl, *shrug*
Overall, it was a-ok drama I happened to find. It was entertaining, as I had nothing else to watch. lol. I wouldn't watch it again.
