i made a review while subliming (it's kinda long, i was seeking catharsis).
What’s alluring about a cliche enemies to lovers trope about teenage high school boys? Not much, right? My School President, when its pilot trailer was released, I vaguely remember rating it 6 out of 10 for the reason that none of it caught my attention, aside from the familiar faces of a few side casts like Winny and Satang. It just seemed the usual GMMTV enemies to lovers trope where the other boy falls in love from the other one. I have gotten acquainted to such storyline, being a huge fan of fiction, I somehow eat it for breakfast. GMMTV releases good soundtracks every now and then with many talented artists but they never had a music-themed series that involves original soundtracks almost every new episode.
I gave it a shot, not knowing it’s about to change my definition of happiness. The official trailer, it was an underestimation that I was immediately captured by the changes. To compare the two trailers, the major changes made it more interesting for me. The teenage, Mr. Perfectionist, son-of-the-principal boy has a 2-year long running crush on this vocalist of their school’s music club. The feelings were strong enough for him to run for the position of school president just to save his crush’s music club which was on the verge of dismissal. They also removed the cliche third party who was supposed to be ruining the relationship of the two, and instead added a new side couple for the fans to support. It was just everything for me to wait for the pilot episode.
By the time I reached the third episode, I was convinced I’d trade lives with whoever wants to just so I would be able to rewatch it like the first time once it is over. The main cast, Fourth and Gemini’s chemistry never failed me. Aside from how they played their character almost amazingly, they also have this undeniable dynamic that adds as a cherry on top for the overall image of the series. I just figured it wasn’t such a mistake that I committed to it after all. By the third episode, I also figured I would be loving every original soundtrack and cover song the series would release, and I have not yet mistaken. They didn’t fail to release great songs, the cast is talented enough to actually live up to expectations when playing covers, not butchering the original songs. That was one I was most amused about; the casting. Aside from Fourth and Gemini, the supporting casts also deserves acknowledgement, especially Ford, Satang, and Mark. They're actually really talented.
Overall, the relationship of the cast, the crew, and the entire production was evident upon the results of every episode. It's 100% recommended. Just let TinnGun, (nonexistent) TiwPor, and WinSound capture you.
