An ok binge watch with shortcomings that may or may not be overlooked

I have conflicting thoughts because this drama leaves me wanting more, which may be both the appeal and the source of annoyance at times.

First of all, I adored the two protagonists; they are excellent actors who have appeared in numerous shows, and they have a wide range. I absolutely loved the musical scores and the emotional depth suits the storyline. For the most part I enjoyed the story and could see what they were trying to achieve however the other characters could have been explored better. However, when watching this drama, I may be missing out on romantic nuances due to the subtitles or my lack of Korean cultural literacy. This is marketed as an adult drama, but it feels high school-ish at moments. There is emotional disconnect in the scenes where the lines do not match the actions. The common assumption is that romantic words will result in more shows of matching affection and romantic conduct (not the off-putting raunchy American variety), but if the scenario has a romantic vibe, there may be suitable hugging, kissing, stroking, and touching to accompany the phrases! However, I notice the actors simply looking at each other after a romantic moment with some beautiful words...which is counterintuitive because in reality, when lovers have a moment, it is followed by acts of affection. This is to the directors who lack the proper perception or understanding. However, after viewing several grown-up romance kdramas. I've seen that many moments do not fit the conduct, I think it's just a difference in cultural or societal norms in Korea vs the west.

Overall, everyone performed admirably in their assigned roles. Both main characters delivered exceptional performances, expressing an abundance of love, tenderness, and suffering, evoking tears and stirring a sense of nostalgia within me. Further, camera angles that display exquisite cinematography and performance, especially the emotional denouement and direction, was great. Queen of Tears was enjoyable to binge watch and honestly I’ll watch about anything with Kim Soo Hyun (he's my bias)

I give this a 6.8 out of 10 rounded up to a 7 out of 10. I doubt I would revisit this in the future.

Not worth anyone’s time

Every episode makes me hate this series more.

- MC girl's facial reaction was 50% astonished and startled, with her mouth half open, 25% stunned and crying, and 25% faking so poorly. I'm not sure if this is what the director wants or a lack of acting skills.

- It always follows the same pattern: shocked, sobbing, side humor, and startled. Come on, this is getting boring.

- Stupid FL. She spends the entirety of the drama trying to keep the ML away. She never considered alternate solutions to the situation or uses her brain. She is always startled and runs away from her problems instead of facing them. Somehow she was able to prove she is from the future by freezing time and walking to hide even though she wasn’t supposed to be able to tell Sunjae. It's as if she never uses her intellect. She never tried to tell her family or friends about the kidnapper/killer but instead she could tell Sunjae. Poor storyline or direction, many many plot holes

- No character growth; she remains an idiot till the end. Also, no chemistry with the male MC. The storyline is predictable.

- No explanation for how time travel occurred. I believe the writers had no idea what to do and kept going in circles.

- OST is mid, not as good as it is hyped up to be. The songs are repetitive as heck. Literally many other actors and singers could sing circles around Byeon Woo Seok.

-People only like this drama and hype BWS because he is tall and supposedly a "green flag" In my opinion his character lacks flavor / depth and is a pick me. He is so talentless, I'm actually laughing because it's crazy how far looks will get you. You can tell who is the stronger of the two leads, and its only Hye Yoon by a small margin, it's easy for anyone to act better than Byeon Woo Seok. He needs to take some acting classes. All he did was smile and cry for the entirety of the drama, whoopie! What an accomplishment.

- All the characters are annoying and one dimensional. It's safe to say they suck and at the end of 16 episodes I barely know anything about any of them.

- I believe this drama is for novice watchers who are just getting into kdramas. It is suitable for kids and teenagers who are in that juvenile stage of their life. It's for the girls, gays and femboys who are attracted to Byeon Woo Seok and use Sol as a self insert for their delusional fantasies with him. These para-social ass people need to get a grip or seek professional help.

- Nobody with true standards and an appreciation for storyline, character arcs or complexity would enjoy this drama, unless they are searching for a show to watch while turning their brain off. It demands no thought because the premise is really simple and the storyline is poorly constructed. If cheesy romance is your thing, there's plenty here. It's such an overkill I could barf... we do not even understand why the leads like each other *facepalm*

I initially gave this a 3/10 but have lowered my rating to 1/10 because of those nasty rats who call themselves fans. They are psychotic I tell you. They keep provoking me and I tried to be nice. Well not anymore! No way in HELL is "this" clown shit the "BEST" kdrama of 2024. Man... istg people are blind and tasteless. Those dumbos can kiss my ass.

I would rate this a 0/10 if I could.

Save yourself and RUN AWAY from this drama. Avoid it at all costs. It is not as great as it is hyped up to be.

Thank you, NEXT.

A Wild Ride From Start To Finish

I thoroughly enjoyed this K-drama, from the cliffhangers that kept me utterly absorbed to the natural chemistry between the leads and the comical moments that added a lighthearted touch. While it's not perfect – there are some plot holes – I still highly recommend it for its addictive storytelling and relentless pace that'll keep you guessing till the very end.

I went in with zero expectations, giving it a try after seeing someone mention it (spoiler free) on TikTok. It was surprising because episode one hooked me instantly. Like many great K-dramas, it started with a bang, ensuring viewers were glued to their screens. As a fan of fast-paced storylines, I loved how this series kept me entertained and engaged from start to finish.

The ending was extremely satisfying for me, but I do acknowledge some flaws. For instance, the Argan arc lacked explanation, leaving some viewers confused. To be fair, even I was unsure where the story was headed at times, but the expertly crafted buildup to Hee Joo and Saeon's reunion had me completely invested. And that kiss? Absolutely perfect. In that moment, all my previous questions and concerns melted away. Both characters surrendering to their feelings was incredibly satisfying, and I was thoroughly satisfied.

The intimate scene between the leads? Totally iconic. I mean, they're a married couple, so it felt super authentic and real. It was like, the culmination of all their pent-up emotions and desires finally coming to a head. And, tbh, it was a major payoff after all the anticipation built up throughout the series.

The way the scene was shot was like yummy perfection. It was passionate, but still sweet and tender. Not too extra, but just enough to make it feel real. And those slow-motion effects? The soft, romantic vibes? Everything about it just felt so right. It was, like, the ultimate slow burn payoff, which I just ate up.

I decided to just enjoy the show instead of overanalyzing it. And honestly, that's what matters most - it was a wild ride from start to finish! (pun intended 😉)

To all the critics out there writing think pieces and judging the show harshly, relax. From the start, it's clear what kind of drama this is - a Wattpad novel adaptation, duh! It's gonna be over-the-top, cheesy, and packed with clichés. Who cares?! If you're into it, great. If not, move on. Nobody forced you to watch.

The happy ending was totally deserved, and it wrapped up the story beautifully. Each character got the closure they needed, and it was super satisfying. So, let's just enjoy the drama and not overthink it, okay?

The major takeaways from this drama were:

1. Communication is KEY. Don't hold back, and always keep it real from the jump. Honesty is everything in any relationship.

2. Loving someone means accepting their flaws. Nobody's perfect, and that's what makes relationships real.

3. Forgiveness is EVERYTHING. Life's messy, people are imperfect, and we're all gonna make mistakes.

1. Knowing when to fight for love is crucial. Sometimes, it's worth putting in the work.

A/N:

I'm low-key laughing at the haters spreading lies and trash-talking the show instead of just enjoying it. They got my original review deleted, lol what a waste of time. Next time, they should just join a circus or something - it'd be a better use of their energy.

To all the trolls out there, let me say: Screw you. You just don't get it. Some of y'all were waiting for the perfect moment to spew hate, and when the show got too popular, you jumped at the chance. Newsflash: not everyone's gonna like the same thing, and that's ok. But what's NOT ok is review-bombing, mass downvoting, and getting people's reviews deleted. Get a life 🤡

Honestly, the 'woke' warriors are sucking the joy out of everything, including our favorite dramas. But you know what? I'm over it. I'm gonna sit back, kick my feet up, and rewatch this drama guilt-free.

It's a solid 10/10 from me, but if I could, I'd give it a 10000/10. That's how much I loved it. No apologies, no justifications. Just me, my snacks, and this delicious drama.

Let's be real: Activism ≠ A Review

It's exhausting to see people using review sections as a soapbox for their performative activism. You know, those who are more concerned with appearing 'woke' than actually contributing meaningful discussions. They're more focused on signaling their virtue than providing constructive feedback.

It's like, if you're genuinely passionate about a cause, put in the actual work. Volunteer, donate, educate yourself, and have respectful conversations. Don't just hijack online spaces to stroke your own ego and pretend to be an ally....

Performative activism isn't just annoying; it's also alienating and damaging. It creates a culture where people feel pressured to pretend to care, rather than genuinely engaging with issues. And it's especially frustrating when it happens in spaces meant for discussion and community-building, like review sections. Instead it's just WW3 all the time. Be so serious and look at yourselves.

Can we please just focus on the drama and the characters, rather than competing in some kind of 'who's the most woke' Olympics?

🫰😴
