hoping it gets better

The pacing in this episode was a bit messy at times, not just within specific scenes (though, that was also an issue) but with the overall timeline. There was one moment, for instance, where Uea thought back to when he and King first met, then another scene came up that was in a different place to the 'present' and I was confused about when it was supposed to be set. There was a lot of exposition, including other flashback scenes that added to the pacing problem. I'm not opposed to finding out a character's trauma in the first episode but considering this is the first time we're meeting Uea, I felt it was a little difficult to like... care? I felt bad for him but right now it feels like his character is just his Trauma and what glimpses we get of him around the other cast members. As for King, I'd been hesitantly liking him (honestly I felt like Uea was being a little harsh at first) up until That Scene. The first half of the episode, he was a little annoying but in a way that felt more endearing than not. The second half, I wanted him to leave Uea alone already!! The acting from the mains is leaving a bit to be desired for me, though the child actor and the side characters did better. However, I've felt that way about other dramas I've seen and the acting did get better over time, so I'm hoping that's the case here as well. I'll definitely be watching the second episode because despite my issues with it, I am really interested in seeing how things progress, especially having seen the end preview for ep 2.
