Slow-paced story and decent acting, but cute and nice for a casual watch!
If you have high standards (great acting, cinematography, script, plot, etc.), this show is not for you. However, I would say that it's a decent show and worth a casual watch.
It didn't feature the best acting, script, or plot in the world, but there were definitely some good things about the show that encouraged me to finish it. This says a lot about the show because I get bored really easily and drop shows all the time, but I finished this one because I wanted to see how things worked out and the couples get together. here are some of the pros and cons:
good things: *spoilers*
- each couple had a good amount of sweet and sad moments
- *some* of the actors did a really great job with their acting (JJ, Fiat, Neen)
- despite the plot being a "basic" storyline (rich, smart person with a poor, dumb person), i actually like cliché troupes. i think this drama did a decent job with this story
- the drama focused just as equally on the friendship between the main cast as much as their relationships, which i absolutely love
- it was pretty funny and i laughed a lot. the funniest moments came from the banter between the male characters because they would always tease each other. tbh, this made up for the bad parts of the show
- actually addressed some important issues for the lgbt+ community (HIV/AIDS, coming out), but it wasn't really done that well tbh
- an okay amount of character development. it could've 100% been done better, but it's okay. you can see the characters change for the better and come to realizations.
- i know this is a bl, but the story between waan and beau was really adorable. they were probably the couple i enjoyed watching the most because both of the actors did a great job. overall, although it took a long time for them to get together, they both seemed to genuinely like each other. their story was just really sweet.
bad things: *spoilers*
- spent an unnecessary amount of time in high school, it felt like they dragged it on for longer than it needed to be. i feel like they added the scenes of the boys in high school to establish the characters' personalities and friendships, but they spent SO MUCH TIME on it. there were less episodes where the boys were in university, which is most of the interesting/important things happened. it was just so slow-paced as well.
- *some* of the actors didn't do the best job in acting. it's not to say they were terrible, but some of them could use some more experience and acting lessons. this isn't entirely their fault, but that's something to watch out for.
- tbh, i enjoyed the love story between the main two characters, but they don't have much chemistry. there are some scenes where each of them steal glances and secretly look at each other adoringly, and they were really cute and made my heart feel warm. but overall, the main two don't have great chemistry or acting skills.
- the second couple (pure and folk) was okay. it's weird because fiat did a great job in his role, but aun has a long way to go. no disrespect! their relationship was also badly done, but that's the fault of the writers and producers, not the actors. i just felt like they tried to make Pure seem really genuine, but it didn't seem that way all the time. since they had such little time in university, i wish they didn't spend so much freaking time on Folk liking someone else and then Pure had to figure himself out too.
- the HIV/AIDS thing was very randomly put into the story. not that i thought it was a bad idea, but it felt really randomly placed.
overall, i think you could watch it if you're not that big on acting, cinematography, script, and plot. basically, if you're not that high maintenance like me, this will be good show to watch. i've watched some pretty bad quality, low-production, low-budget dramas, and this drama is definitely better than that. however, sometimes the not great plot development, good acting, and lack of chemistry between the couples can get annoying.
