Emotional ride infused with humor and unnecessary crime mystery
A tale entwined with themes of love, sacrifice, fate, miracles, courage, and opportunities with a fantasy element.Initially I relegated it to the bottom of my watchlist presuming it to be another run-of-the-mill fantasy kdrama but that changed quickly when I learnt Nana was the FL (love her <3)
The main plot, marked by a strong love triangle and multiple reincarnations resonates emotionally, while a drawn-out and less mysterious crime subplot and lousy cops add some flaws. VFX initially subpar improved overtime. Personally didn't like the second lead couple's story as it felt like filler but their realistic end balances it out. Despite potential drawbacks, the series was immensely enjoyable for me. It brought out genuine laughter and left a lasting impact. It's been a while since a kdrama filled me with such a satisfying void.

Beyond the BL cliché, Allure and Shortcomings
High Points:* Stunning visuals: The directorial and cinematography team (same as KinnPorsche) delivers beautiful aesthetics with a rustic modern feel.
* Captivating music: The score composed by Jeff Satur is another strong point of the series.
* Engaging plot: The story is a fast-paced melodrama with angst, misunderstandings, and over-the-top villains, keeping you hooked.
* Powerful performances: The cast, especially Poom, shines with their acting abilities.
* Unique concept: The series attempts to break away from the typical high school/university BL themes.
Lower Points:
* Unconvincing romance: The NC scenes lack passion and
might lead to skipping.
* Predictable plot: If you're familiar with the "crematorium"
genre, the central plot might be predictable.
* Wasted Potential: Winner's (2nd Joe) potential is
underutilized, and some character arcs feel rushed in the final episodes.
* Rushed side couple romance: The introduction of a romantic relationship between secondary characters at the very end feels tacked on and unconvincing.
* Unsatisfying ending: The dramatic shift from tension-filled betrayal to a wholesome family resolution feels unearned. The overly forgiving conclusion may leave some viewers unsatisfied.
Overall:
This series is neither a flop nor a masterpiece, a decent choice if you're looking for something beyond lighthearted BL fluff. However, be prepared for melodrama and uneven pacing.

A story that grows on you
Unlike other fantasy kdramas, it starts slow, but builds with an engaging story, atmosphere, and music. The first few episodes are weighed down by cliched fatphobic humor, but the characters and their dynamics become increasingly captivating. While the FL's styling shines, the ML's look, especially the hairstyle, is a constant source of amusement (one can only hope for a change!). The drama is melancholic, focusing on family over romance, yet the romantic moments and kisses are impactful. The exceptional child actress portraying the ML's daughter steals the show. The flawed, relatable characters grow and find redemption by the satisfyingly tied-up HEA in just 12 episodes, despite minor plot inconsistencies.Even if the plot doesn't grab you, the show's mesmerizing cinematography is a must-see. It's a visual treat!
(not to forget the wonderful performance by actor Roy Choi who played FL's uncle – he deserves a main role of his own)

A feel good for the soul
High PointsVisuals: The cinematography was serene and aesthetic, just like most other Japanese BLs. They have a knack for making visuals pleasing to the audience's eyes.
Acting: The acting was phenomenal, pulling you in from the very beginning.
Representation and Relatability: The characters had vulnerabilities and insecurities that they learned to accept and overcome, making them incredibly relatable. From small details to certain personality traits and circumstances, there was something for everyone to connect with.
Endearing and Humorous: The drama kept you engaged throughout with its endearing characters and humorous moments, making it easy to binge-watch in one sitting.
Slow Burn Realism: The romance was a slow burn, focusing on the lives of the main characters beyond their relationship. They grappled with their own personal issues and navigated life together, creating a more realistic portrayal.
Thought-Provoking Themes: The drama explored thought-provoking themes that made you reflect on things you hadn't considered before.
Portrayal of Disability: The portrayal of the main character's disability, being hard of hearing, was well-done. It showcased the challenges faced in an ableist society and how prejudice and systemic barriers can shape one's mindset.
Low Points
Lack of Communication: While the lack of communication was partially due to the main character's disability, it was still a frustrating plot device at times.
Inconsistent Pacing: The pacing was inconsistent, with the first few episodes being fast and engaging, followed by slower episodes filled with flashbacks. This was a problem even in the manga.
Angle Kiss and Lack of Intimacy: While this wasn't a major issue for me, as I enjoyed the strong plot and chemistry between the characters, it might bother some viewers who prefer more intimate scenes.
Unsatisfactory Ending: While the ending was heartwarming, it felt rushed and could have been more fulfilling (or maybe I'm just being fussy pants)
Overall
This drama has a specific target audience. If you're looking for a fast-paced, fairy tale-esque romance, this might not be your cup of tea. However, if you appreciate thought-provoking themes, slow-burn relationships, and a focus on personal growth, it's worth a watch. The series delves into topics like friendship, love, disability, and mental health, exploring how characters overcome life's challenges. While romance is present, it's not the central focus. Instead, the emphasis is on the characters' journeys and their connections to each other. This makes it a heartwarming drama that encourages reflection and offers unique perspectives.

We Are all about the feels
Craving a high-octane drama? Look elsewhereHigh points:
* Heartwarming and Refreshing: "We Are" offers a heartwarming and refreshing take on love and friendship, with relatable characters and strong bonds.
* Simple Yet Engaging Storyline: While the narrative steers clear of intense drama, it remains captivating throughout.
* Healthy Romance: The romance is sweet and wholesome, with plenty of heart-fluttering moments.
* Humor and Music: The show's humor is on point, and the soundtrack, especially "Truth in the eyes" by PondPhuwin is catchy and enjoyable.
* Breaks BL Drama Clichés: It avoids the tired trope of a breakup in the 11th episode.
* AouBoom (Teeraaakkkk) and WinnySatang
Low points:
* Inconsistent Kisses: While some kisses are passionate, others fall flat.
* Uneven Acting: The acting from some cast members is not entirely convincing (iykyk)
* Pacing: The pacing is uneven, starting slow, then speeding up, then slowing down again before picking up the pace towards the end.
* Overused Tropes: The series relies on some cliché tropes that could have been avoided, such as unnecessary misunderstandings and the main lead bullying the love interest.
* Main Couple Focus: The main couple's back-and-forth takes up more screen time than the development of the side couples.
Overall:
"We Are" embraces a lighthearted and charming approach without intending to be groundbreaking. It thrives on relatable characters, positive friendships, and a sweet romance, making it the perfect pick-me-up for viewers seeking a feel-good escape. TanFang's scenes are a guaranteed rewatch material for me :)

Modern Love, Classic Charm
This GMMTV romcom takes the classic high school formula and injects it with fresh air. Exuding silliness, goofiness, and innocence, the show nevertheless portrays a mature relationship. The leads navigate personal struggles, nurturing a healthy dynamic through unwavering support and care for one another. Highlighting the modern perspective on queer love and relationships, it also delves into the hardships faced by aspiring artists in the demanding world of their dreams. The second couple's slow burn wasn't for me (sorry!), but the overall show was my Sunday mood brightener...until episodes 10 and 11. Tears and angst replaced the usual fluff, making me question my choices and curse out Shone 😂
With a captivating plot, talented cast, catchy osts, and an adorable love story brimming with "orange cat x black cat chemistry," this series is a must-add to your watchlist!

FWB + fake dating = spicy disastrous recipe for love or?
High Points:* Eye-Catching Visuals: Stunning retro-futuristic cinematography creates a captivating world.
* Natural Rapport: The leads' real-life friendship translates to effortless on-screen chemistry, creating a charmingly easygoing dynamic.
* Healthy Relationship Goals: The series depicts a heartwarming relationship built on open communication and mutual respect.
* Steamy Yet Censored: The NC scenes, while censored, manage to be steamy and deliver a level of intimacy that is considered risqué by GMMTV's standards.
* Scene-Stealing Couple: The adorable side couple is a highlight, found myself being captivated by them more the main couple.
* Representation Matters: Wandee Goodday takes a commendable step forward in representation by incorporating asexuality, internalized homophobia, and the importance of safe sex practices into its narrative.
Low Points:
* Flat Characters: Some characters lack depth, hindering their impact on the story.
* Unexplored Backstory: Unresolved trauma and plot contrivances leave viewers with unanswered questions.
* Family Drama Fizzle: Major family drama is resolved too easily with simple communication and financial aid.
* Pacing Problems: The story drags in later episodes, failing to maintain its initial intrigue.
* Tamed Narrative: The promised intense drama is absent, replaced by a predictable and overly sweet storyline.
* Undeserved Redemption: The antagonist receives a rushed and unearned redemption arc, complete with an unexpected romantic partner.
Overall:
Wandee Goodday captivates viewers in its first half with stunning visuals, relatable characters, and refreshing themes. However, the latter half suffers from a slowing pace, underdeveloped plot elements, and a shift towards a sugar-coated narrative typical of GMMTV productions. Despite these shortcomings, the series remains a light and entertaining watch, particularly for fans who appreciate the lead actors' dynamic.
Another wasted potential to be great 🥲
