A pure and classic lakorn regarding family conflict
Dong Poo Dee (2009) is a classic family drama with conflicts and secrets revolving around the family.
What should I start off with? Wow, Taew’s first lakorn that aired “prime-time” / evenings. I was NOT disappointed. I’m on a mission to watch all of Taew’s works, if possible … When I came across Dong Poo Dee, it looked boring, and I thought I wouldn’t like it. I actually loved it. I thought it would be one of those dramas where it’s short lived, but no! It did disappoint me later on in the middle-ish episodes and after, but that’s okay.
I really enjoyed the story. I like watching family conflicts and arguments. I enjoyed watching Kom getting backlashes from the family to an extent. I love seeing the secrets unfold to everyone. I love seeing Kom’s vulnerability. I sympathize with this lakorn a lot. It’s so relatable and had some great character development.
I really love Taew in this. Her character is so genuine. It’s refreshing to see her in this type of role these days. I have never cried for a lakorn this much in a while … Kom really makes me pity her. ? I like Smart and Taew in this lakorn more than when I watched them in Wiang Roy Dao. This felt more authentic and natural to watch, so that’s a plus. There was NO romance, so don’t expect romance AT ALL from the leads. I enjoyed just the cute uncle and niece concept.
Regarding acting, Donut was amazing. I was very scared of her, irritated, and all of the above. Bunga was crazy, and she did amazing portraying her!! It felt so real. My girl, Taew, was amazing as well. I love seeing Donut and Taew act together for the third time. They’re both such great actresses. Regarding production, ActArt production did amazing. This didn’t feel dragged at all and it felt very high quality of a lakorn to me.
What I liked:
. The family conflict was interesting to follow (Kom’s real dad, etc.)
. I love the character development in this. For example, I liked how Pot was so annoying and picky about everything in the beginning but developed to understand towards the end. It was good to see her and many characters’ development. I’ve never seen Mint in this type of role before!
. This lakorn is so relatable. It would hurt or touch you, in a way, with some scenes or issues.
What I disliked:
. It’s okay to have a few bullies in lakorns, but this drama annoyed me slightly with HOW MUCH Kom was being bullied. By Rangsan, Bunga and Pot. In the beginning, it was okay to watch, but since she kept on getting bullied, it got really annoying and irritating to watch around the middle of the story and after. Bunga is so irritating!!
. Crazy characters like Bunga make it less enjoyable sadly
Would I rewatch this? It’s likely a no because this lakorn played with my emotions. It’s so relatable and I want to spare myself from feeling any type of regret, fear, or sadness. This barely has any feel-good scenes to come back to.
Overall, I gave this an 7.5 because it’s definitely one of Taew’s bests from many, many years ago. I enjoyed it. The story is interesting, and it keeps you on the edge of your seat. You can sympathize with the characters a lot. There are life lessons in this and it's similar to the reality, in a way. It's a classic family drama! I greatly enjoyed and appreciated watching Taew in this role.
