Suda and team pull off another one! :)

Being an ignorant American, I had never heard of GreeeN until now but I'm glad I have. I enjoyed this film very much. Hated the dad. Didn't even realize til more than halfway thru that the doc at the hospital and the monster at home were the same person. Night and day.

Matsuzaka Tori's way with a pair of black pants made it difficult for me to focus on the plot but I did my best. lol I am not familiar with him but will remedy that situation immediately. Fine actor. As for Suda Masaki, once again he delights and amazes. I really do think he is a collection of particles of light in human form, sent to this Earth to spread joy amongst humanity with his angelic presence and gritty charisma. There is clearly nothing he cannot do as an entertainer. I love watching him onscreen just for who he is and what he brings, but he is also a very talented actor who is entirely whatever character he is portraying. He frequently brings tears to my eyes with seemingly minor or small things such as the humble/real/heartfelt emotion with which he apologized to his GreeeN fellows and asked to come back. The japanese are maybe the most emotionally restricted culture I've encountered, but nobody does apologies more beautifully than do they.

The relatively smooth grace with which the older brother made the necessary mental/emotional adjustment necessary to assume a role in life he had not previously imagined was beautiful. That is something I will be thinking about in my own life the next few days.

This is yet another Asian flick sitting in my to-watch list for ages that I kept putting off. When will I ever learn? I am much more likely to be surprised by and love something that gives me pause for whatever reason when it comes to Asian cinema. This flick was so much more than I anticipated from the poster. I really need to ignore posters; they are so often a complete failure at conveying the essence of a film.

Bravo to Suda a crew once again. 8.5/10
