Interesting plot but poor execution
I am a fan of cult and pseudo-religious groups plots myself such as in dramas Save me (2017) and The Guest (2018). When I first read the description of Hometown it felt a bit confusing, tbh. After watching the drama it became clear why. The two timelines thing is totally fine, it's not confusing most of the time. The acting is really good, especially Uhm Tae Goo. He's so good that it's suspicious that he's so good at playing this role. His relaxed and airy way of speaking and the intense look in his eyes really makes him believable for his character. I believe it's my first time watching Yoo Jae Myung and Han Yeri as the main characters of a drama, but they were also really good. Especially Yoo Jae Myung. The younger cast also did a very good job, especially the actress playing Jo Jae Young. The drama has a promising plot but it feels a bit like it's trying to do several things at the same time so it's not focusing on just one thing and that's when the drama becomes confusing. Some stuff happens really fast, some stuff takes a really long time in this drama. It would be better if they balanced it. It feels really unbalanced at some point. I also wish the reveal scenes had more shocking factors in it. I feel like they were really underwhelming considering the reveals. Soundtracks doesn't really stick to mind, really forgettable. It's creepy but I saw comments like "This is a 10/10 for creepiness." Seeing those comments, I expected more but I don't think it was creepy to that extend. I don't know how well this drama was perceived when it was first released but I feel like the acting and the story was a bit wasted because of the poor execution.Considerați utilă această recenzie?

GOOD DRAMA BUT SO MANY THINGS HAPPENING THUS CONFUSING
Contains Spoiler!I didn't expect it to be this intense and "complicated." It is a good story, I am not gonna lie. But the thing is the show is trying to be several things at the same time and at some point it gets confusing. The acting is very good, every actor and actress is amazing tbh. OSTs weren't really memorable, they didn't really leave an impression on me. There were so much background info and stories about almost every single character so you have to pay attention. Sometimes even though you do, you might still get confused. Also, personally, I really like Kyung Soo Jin, but I feel like her acting wasn't really good or maybe she didn't really fit the role I am not sure but it kind of kept catching my attention, especially in the episodes before Bareum's recovery from that fight with Yohan. Lastly, it's a long drama, 20 episodes, but it also kind of feels rushed. (?) It was still a good drama though, but a lot of things happened, I am not sure how much I'll remember though.

The acting and the plot is good, but...
I really wanted to LOVE this movie. BUT…This movie has a REALLY interesting plot. BUT the characters are the weakest part of the movie. While watching a movie we want to root for a character or at least understand them. In this movie we learn the history of both killers but still it lacks emotion. And for the daughter she doesn‘t have much influence on the film tbh. She‘s just there to create this thing between the killers. She has no character developments. From the start till the end she’s the naive daughter/damsel in distress. The acting is good. Sol Kyung Gu is AMAZING. Seolhyun isn’t a great actress but her acting in this movie was good and believable. Kim Nam Gil’s acting was also good. Another thing about this movie is that it has so many twists and at some points you don‘t try to connect the dots because you‘re lost, you just watch it. It becomes complicated and starts to lack sense. I don‘t think I‘ll remember what happened in this movie in a week.
