Expected nothing. Got everything and a 5 months ongoing addiction

Ok so where do I start? By my introduction to this amazing bl journey.
I was bored and wanted to watch a romance show with real actors (since I only read straight romance or bl in manwha) and decided to give a try to the Thai industry since I heard they produced quite a lot. I searched for « the best ones » and KP kept getting mentionned with a few others but its title really intrigued me because it looked weird…what a surprise!
I really wasn’t expecting a lot from Kinnporsche, I only watched 1 Thai drama before and it was a thriller not a romance. I also heard people talking about how a lot of bl actors were homophobic in real life, how most kiss scenes were awkward because the actors were straight and couldn’t portray gay relationships, the low budget etc…KP was the opposite of all those single statement (if we exclude Build). The action scenes were so well done, the cast was so fresh and good, the story kept me in til the end, amazing chemestry between everyone, it was a wonderful experience.

**The story**

I know a lot of people hated it and it feels like most criticism toward KP are targeting the plot but I enjoyed it.
We have Porsche, a 23 years old bartender who needs money to provides his brother’s needs and sacrificed his whole life in a way for that. We also have Kinn, second son of a boss mafia and the heir, who does…mafia stuff for now. They meet and this is the start of a longer journey where Porsche become Kinn’s bodyguard. Porsche learns about the mafia world and about the guy he had no idea he could ever be interested in Kinn. Their feelings toward each other change through the time but they are in their work setting, both with insecurities who’s top them from communicating and lead to very bad situations, that they eventually overcome (also there’s this side couple KimChay). I’ll say ep 1 to 8 are about the build up of the relationship between Kinn and Porsche, where we get to understand their dynamics. They feel physical, sexual and emotional attraction toward each other and the story through so episodes makes us understand how this work between them: they fight, they make peace, they love each others, they get jealous, they lie etc…basically a whole preview to whether or not we’re going to handle those 2 (those who didn’t should have stopped by now tbh, why punishing yourself with 6 more episodes that will show you the exact same dynamic that has been established since the first eps?). Then episodes 9 to 14 are more about inner conflict in the mafia environment, with the minor family, with family dramas in general, and Im sick of people pretending mafia family drama isn’t realistic bc this is basically what they are in real life? With all the power conflicts and betrayals.
Although Im a huge KinnPorsche Stan, I might say that I enjoy the other 2 couples for representation aspects. I liked that those who liked mature nuanced storyline could settle with Kinnporsche like me, those who liked more fluffy love stories could have KimChay (also their break up was amazing, made me realize I barely see couples breaking up in fiction, but that’s just me) and those who liked more « BDSM »(i don’t but I understand that it’s fiction and people have different taste) could have VegasPete, also their emotional chemestry delivered so well I was lowkey rooting for them as well (ew).
Kinnporsche was a mix between action, comedy and romance and it totally worked for me, expecially since Im not going to be a hypocrit, I came for the romance and I was indeed served, couldn’t care less that we had too much romance and not enough action like some might say, it’s exactly why I came here.
Also almost forgot to mention but the sex scenes?? Never in my life did I think I would look at those scenes with such respect and enjoyment for the action and what it tells about the characters. Each were so wonderfully done and tell a story, those were not just regular scenes that were there to show that the plot was mature content, it genuinely belonged here and Im so here for stories like that! They were a part of the story so this brings the rate even higher.

**Acting/Casting**

Litteraly nothing to say expect that they were perfect?? I shouldn’t have started with KP only because the actors really gave life to their character, you see that they put themselves into them, which leads to saucy authentic characters. Apo is my fav example for this but like a lot of people, I loved his mannerism in the first episodes, like it felt like they asked him to act frustrated and he played it the way he would actually behave if he was, I don’t know if that makes sence, something about Porsche’s reactions, body language felt so unique to him personally, I loved that. Same thing for drunk Porsche, I again don’t know how to explain it but there was something about the way he played his drunk character that felt so unique to him only, not just like we asked him to play an average « drunk person » but those are just my observations. This apply to other characters as well but I really noticed it a lot with Apo.
The characters chemistry, whether it was romantic or plactonic felt so real, Porsche and Porsche? amazing. Arm and Pol? Wonderful. Porsche and Pete? Again beautiful chemistry and let’s not talk about the romantic ones, the weakest part for me was KimChay but based on the Bl I watched after KP, I’ll say even them were quite good. This chemistry is even better to appreciate when you see BTS or just actors real life and understand that they had a good relationship outside or the filming process, they look like actual friends and gave such a light vibe with makes the show even more enjoyable to me. Everyone was casted on point and since my only Asian drama with « young adults » were mostly from Korea, I liked the diversity of each actor, like they were all pretty, not in the way Asian medias would promote attractiveness but they were still so visually pleasing (Im not saying that they are ugly but they are very different from what first come to my Western mind when I think of Asian celebrities).
So casting is a 10/10, the only bad part of it was Build but Im not putting down the others bc of him.

**Music**

Not matter the medias, I usually don’t care about music in movies/series/animes. Most of time I feel like they fit with the scene and I don’t really care about them, I only notice them when they are either really bad or really good. This happened with KP. EP 4 choice of music may have sound problematic to many but I loved that piano version of Free Fall, it was so amazing and still on my work playlist til this day. More generally, all the musics were so cool and fun, the goofy mafia vibe one, the more intense ones I enjoyed them all, and the OST were wonderful as well. Jeff Satur on top he really delivered.
10/10 for memorable and beautiful music

KP is totally rewatchable, expecially since for me I was divide it in arcs, if I want to see a angsty relationship I’ll go watch certain episodes, if I want action I got watch others, If I want cute moment then I watch ep X etc…Since no other Bl I watched match this kind of variability, KPn remain the only one I can rewatch If I want those specific moments

Since I also get that it wasn’t perfect, I will do a pro/cons list but the cons are from opinions I heard actually not from me since I had no issue with KP at all:

**Pro**
- Amazing acting
- Cool and refreshing atmosphere, Im someone who likes shows based on vibes and I really enjoyed KP one, it was very lively with assumed problematic stuff from every characters.
- The morally grey aspect, I never went on KP expecting a moral lesson, they do things I would never do or forgive in real life but here they do, they don’t have therapists, only them and their feelings and I don’t see why we want them to behave like premium humans who makes no mistake.
Also I like how technically even the least problematic one out of all the character technically is problematic? Why would you work in mafia in the first place? If you are poor there are other jobs that don’t require you to sacrify your morals. even Porsche could have left I think, that’s what Kinn asks him in the hospital but he still stayed (I know that since Kuhn wanted him to stay it probably wouldn’t have happened but still, he had the illusion of a choice and still chose to stay for love). Chay may be the only clean one the others are all sus Im just saying.
- Cinematography, I don’t watch enough movies but action shows or movies like The Batman or The 100 or GOT always keep my attention, I just love beautiful shots even though I know nothing about cinema
- The relationships chemistry again
- PORSCHE, a lot of my fav characters have the same vibe as him but what I like about them ENFJ characters is that they always manage to look unique from each other in fiction even while having the same kind of characters, so Porsche is another iconic one.

**Cons**
- I forgot about al my morals during this show as even if i found an action terrible, I understood that they live in a world where no one is going to tell them so and I want to invest myself in a show so I don’t need it to try to talk to the audience directly to tell me « yeah it’s bad », if it’s bad it’s mostly because the characters feel it is in fiction cases before « because I think it is bad » but I get that SA is a trigger topic and sensitive subject. I never experienced it and Im absolutely disgusted by it and I can understand why people couldn’t enjoy KP for that (usually I wouldn’t have enjoyed a show for that myself but KP magic ig?).
- Lack of character’s depth. Honestly I don’t care, I really got all the informations I needed about each and some of the complains seems to add nothing to the story (ex why Ken betrayed major family? I think the actor made a cute fanfic during one of his video explaining why but it’s so obvious that it could be for money or whatever? As I was saying earlier betrayal is a common thing in mafia world). Maybe some people need to be able to justify each character’s action by each storyline the show gave us but I liked the freedom, you know a few things about a character and then he behaves like he wants and surprise you, nothing wrong with that but I get it
- The plot, I think the issue most people have is that it wasn’t linear, I actually had fun when they were revealing all the drama and was like « omg » (biggest one for me was when Porsche learned that the reason he came to the mafia in the first place was linked with Kinn’s actions I was so choked) but I get that having a stronger storyline to follow from ep 1 to ep 14 would have been more entertaining to some. And maybe the family drama wasn’t so enjoyable, I didn’t necessary like it but I didn’t hate it, I just followed the show.
- The author and actors polemic, has nothing to do with the show but kinda sad how BOC had all the drama right after their success, but thanks for their service again.

This show was objectively not perfect but for me it was perfectly un perfect. Tbh it’s flaws made it even more enjoyable I don’t know how to explain, someone might point a mistake or something the show forgot and I will just think about the Game of Throne producers line « he kind of forgot ». It was such an funny show to watch and I don’t think a lot left me with this feeling.
