Minister Min is hot lol

Now in all seriousness Rookie Historian is a lovely kdrama. I remember while recommending it to others that I mentioned how I loved that it was historical and the costumes were beautiful! The element of an ongoing mystery with the banned books and the prince's nightmares was a great element well. I also made a point of appreciating the feminism and girl power! Goo Hae-ryung is differentfrom some female leads I've seen in dramas and tv shows that constantly need help/ are damsels in distress. I loved that our female lead is strong willed and willing to fight for what she believes in! ^_^ Prince Dowon was a nice male lead, I enjoyed his interactions with Goo Hae-ryung! The supporting cast were loveable as well, like the fellow historians hehe. Also Dowon's attendants were hilarious. Plus minister Min <3 <3 Anyway I was sad to see it end, but it got me back into watching kdramas.

Not a favourite thats for sure

I glanced at some other reviews so I'll also preface this by saying I haven’t seen Something in the Rain either. I randomly decided to watch this after not starting anything new for a while after fishing Rain or Shine. If I'm remembering correctly, I believe I saw it suggested as a drama I'd like if liked Rain or Shine.
Unfortunately the mundane mood I enjoyed in my last drama felt annoying in this one. There were so many food scenes. Like I get that ppl eat and eat out and maybe it's a cultural thing too, but it felt excessive here. Like I saw more eating than action.
The drama felt like it dragged on and on and took me a while to finish because it was so frustrating. For instance the FL takes forever to break it off with her bf like more than 8 eps. I also found her annoying tbh. In fact most of the characters in this were annoying and not really memorable besides the ML, his friends, and family. Tbh the only thing keeping me going was seeing more of the son and my stubbornness to finish it at least.
I also found that I only laughed twice throughout 16 eps which sucks ?
The ost is also super repetitive to the point where I got annoyed.

As someone who loves sharing kdrama with others this is one I don't deem worthy of showing to my mom.
I'm glad I'm done it and I don't plan on a rewatch ever.

It's alright, but not a fave

I just finished Summer Strike and I'm not sure how to feel.
I feel like just when I was starting to really like and get to know many characters the series is already over. I'm left wishing I could see more, especially with some of the side characters.

When I first discovered this drama it was via a tik tok video and I was interested after hearing a summary of the first episode.
I found the story engaging and pleasant up until when the grandmother died, that's when it went to a not so peaceful vibe.
I haven't read the webtoon so I didn't have expectations/ an idea that it would turn into a murder and mystery case, but the shift felt sudden. I know there were some hints with the graffiti and such, but I was mainly here for the happy vibes :P

The acting was done great by everyone, I especially liked the male lead, Dae-Beom. He felt very refreshing and it was nice to see a fellow introvert. The female lead, Yeo-Reum was nice too, though she was frustrating during the first few episodes.

It took 3-4 episodes for me to like the other side characters and they really became my faves, Bom's brother especially.

All in all I think it was an okay series, nothing to right home about tbh. I enjoyed it while it was airing, catching episodes every Tuesday, but I wish they didn't end it at 12 episodes. It felt like it needed more time, the little time skip didn't feel as satisfying as it should be.
I don't see myself going in for a rewatch, I think experiencing it this time is good enough ^_^

I wouldn't say it's a waste of time, it's alright, just not a fave.

Bonus points for having a westie lol

This Drama is not Okay it's AMAZING

I literally just finished this drama and right away I must say it went beyond my expectations and has become a new favourite!

I had this sitting on my to watch list for a bit only really being aware of it due to the children's books being merch for the series. However I did not expect myself to become attached and enthralled it's actors, the music, plot, animation, etc. It's truly the whole package with this one!

The opening of the first episode in itself captivated me with the story like opening and the 3D looking stop animation. It gave a strong impression and made me want to see where this story would go! There was a hint of darkness to the cute animation was like a premonition to what would later unfold in this drama.

One thing I'd love to highlight is the comedy in this one and the funny edits. You'll know what I mean when you watch it! The funny edits were more prominent in the earlier episodes, but I think it fit when things were more relaxed compared to the later half of the series.

The story covered many of my favourite themes and tropes in a fascinating and refreshing way. The main leads knowing each other from childhood but not realizing it (or acknowledging it right away); the characters having their own traumas and helping each other/facing them; an ongoing mystery/ issue that gets resolved; found family, etc. I could honestly go on and on.

The characters themselves were entertaining and loveable (or slowly grew on me). Ko Moon-young was especially refreshing! Maybe I haven't watched enough kdramas yet, but I feel like I haven't seen a female lead as blunt and direct as her. The book signing scene will forever be a favourite for me!
The fact that she has a kind of low voice that can get kind of monotone util she unleashes some rage/ curses felt unique. Plus she's very forward, asking Gang-tae if he wanted to sleep with her and announcing that she's horny.
LIKE YESSSS! GIVE ME MOREEEE!
The kiss scenes are worth it and felt satisfying especially after I watched other dramas with little pecks lol

The Moon brothers were brilliant in themselves and it was great seeing them grow and interact with Moon-young.
I'd love to add that I found myself adoring the patients at OK Psychiatric Hospital and their stories.

Another element I did not realize would be so special was the fairy tale stories/ children's . The style of the books themselves were nice to look at and I enjoyed when the characters would read them/ show them to the viewer. The messages in the female lead's books really felt healing in their own way and kind of make you contemplate stuff, which is something I love in kdramas (like Just between lovers, go watch it lol). The final story book she creates with her really tied their experiences together and gave a happy little bow to the ending (which was satisfying so do not fear).

The only reason I took some points off from rewatchability is because of the identity of the female lead's mother. Once you know it, it kinds of ruins the fluffy feelings in some of the earlier episodes, but I guess you can just observe them again with that new found knowledge in mind. Seriously did anyone else see Mrs. Park as Ko Moo-young's mother???? I was caught off guard and fell for the patient possibly being her.

Anyway I just like the good feels, healing, comedy, and life advice this drama gave me over the course of 16 episodes.
It's one I have to show my mother for sure!

Now I'm not sure what I'll watch after this, it feels like too good of a series to watch another from. Know that I enjoyed this as someone who's watched Chocolate and Just Between Lovers, if you liked the themes of trauma in those, I think you'll enjoy this one too!

It's alright I guess

Alright I finally finished Romance is A Bonus book and it's surprising how long it took me. Initially I started watching this and the plot with Dani facing employment troubles had me hooked. The first few episodes I was crying during her job hunts and invested in her plight However as the drama went it started to kind of drag for me. In the sense that I stated using another drama as motivation to finish this one (before it was Extraordinary Attorney Woo and now it's Hometown Cha Cha Cha).

It was nice learning about the inner workings of publishing's and witnessing the company's passion for their work. Though like others have said in the comments, I found the later half to be more mundane and slice of life like. Sure I wanted to see some other character's relationships, but nothing else in the story really kept me hooked. Thus I don't see much rewatch value in this drama. It was cute with the whole book analogy thing, but that's it.

One thing that rubbed me the wrong way (and another review highlighted this too) is the fact her daughter wasn't mentioned/ shown. Only at the end she vaguely mentions worrying about when she'll return to Seoul when she graduates and Eun-ho says they can worry later. Like I think you should tell your daughter O _________O

Anyway if you want something light to watch after the first 8 episodes or so, this would be it.

The moon is beautiful.

How will I move on after this, I need more

After completing It's Okay to Not Be Okay, I wondered what kdrama I should try to watch next and luckily I decided to watch Move to Heaven. I didn't know what to expect, I just thought it'd be cool to be able to see my baby duckling from CLOY again and an interesting looking uncle. To my surprise this kdrama ended up being more than I expected.

WARNING: YOU WILL CRY.
I don't know how much, it depends on your own emotions, but the first episode had me bawling despite myself putting two-and-two together pretty quickly. Like the father has to die for the uncle to come in. I just wasn't expected it to happen so soon, but with only 10 episodes ranging from less than an hour it makes sense.
To be honest the episode length is probably my only complaint with this series. I NEEDED MORE!!!

The themes of death for the old and young, dying with loved ones or without them, mourning the loss, etc. were really powerful and something to ponder over. Some of the plots with each trauma cleaning had me guessing what went down and getting them right right away. For example, the death of the doctor I immediately thought that the lover could be a male also.

The whole story line with Geu-ru's uncle's and father was interesting and tragic and I kind of wish we had more info on their childhood. The uncle, San-gu's character development was also rewarding to see as he got closer to Geu-ru and began to genuinely care.

I also want to say it was interesting seeing another character with autism spectrum disorder after seeing Sang Tae on It's Okay Not to Be Okay. I'm not an expert, nor am I autistic, but as someone watching it I found Geu-ru's character to be well done.
In addition cinematography and editing with visuals of Geu-ru demonstrating his memory and recalling stuff was very cool!
Well done for whoever thought to do that.

Again I am super sad it's only 10 eps and it's over, but I'm thankful I decided to watch it. I'll take the lessons I've learned from this drama with life and death and all that jazz. I also thank the kdrama for showing me another career people can have, I forgot that trauma cleaning is a thing.

Anyway go watch it now!!!

A favourite for sure!

When I first watched The King's Affection, I enjoyed it immensely! So much so that I had to show my mother (who can be picky when it comes to kdramas so far) and I can attest to it's rewatch value! I just want to add that compared to others I didn't think the drama dragged on and on nor did my mother (who hated that feeling during Goblin lol). There was never a moment where I got bored during my first watch of my second one with my mother.

From the very start, the first few episodes with the childhood sequences caught my attention an interest. Despite not spending a long time with our FL I already found myself tearing up at her situation especially after the mother passed away. The childhood lovers/ first love trope was something I enjoyed as well and I believe they picked great actors and actresses for the younger and older versions of the characters! I am also a fan of X female character has to disguise as male plots like in Disney's Mulan and She's the Man. So if you enjoy that too this may be the drama for you!

As a history major and general enjoyer of kdrama, I don't mind if there are ay historical inaccuracies and stuff not too deep with politics, because I'm here for the escape from reality lol I'm here for the ROMANCE and pinning. So if that's something you're going to get all uptight about then maybe kdramas are not for you... maybe watch a documentary >.>

The characters and cast were all wonderful! I enjoyed the chemistry between the FL and ML, especially when the ML loved her in both instances (past female, present male). It's another sweet like destiny/fate trope, like he loves her no matter what ^_^
The servants were very comedic and precious, I grew attached to them as well.

I also enjoyed the sort of mystery that kind of went on with the bodyguard getting revenge and eventually aiding our FL. Also the Uncle's "death" had me fooled the first time :P So there's that too.
The cousin's love and care for FL was so touching! If our ML wasn't there, I could see the potential!

The ending was very satisfy considering what occurred.
MAJOR SPOILER:

I really liked how in the end she kind of had to end it herself on her terms using the grandfather's poison again him. It sucks Gyeom had to die, but 'tis life I guess.

Anyway I doubt I did this drama any justice, but I just suggest you give it a go! As someone who enjoyed CLOY, Goblin, Rookie Historian, etc. you can take my review however you wish.

Food, Romance, Destiny, Life and Death

I recently finished (as in minutes ago) Chocolate in 5 days and that just shows how addictive the show was.
The first few episodes drew me in and when the plot revolved more around the hospice, it got even more interesting.
I love a childhood/ first love romance theme, but this one made it interesting with the theme of missed opportunities and chance meetings.
The characters we interesting and loveable and the ones that were annoying were infuriating as they should be.
I enjoyed the character growth of the main cast members, especially Lee Jun. At first I was super annoyed with him, but he later grew on me. Everyone's relationships were precious as well.
Spoiler: it had to happen, but I'm still sad Min Seong had to die. His scene asking out Cha Young was adorable!!
Also idk if anyone here watches Jolly (youtube), but Min Seong legit reminds me of a Korean Josh lol

Anyway, I enjoyed the theme of a hospice and it's importance in people's lives . I find kdrama's always get me thinking about life and cherishing moments more. Sadly with just 16 episodes and taking a bit to get to the hospice, I found myself not crying at the deaths of characters. Normally I get super immersed, but with the pacing I guess I wasn't as attached to certain character's deaths. For instance (could blame squid game too lol spoiler) the grand pa always waiting for his son at a chinese place death didn't make me emotional. Where as with something like Hi, Bye, Mama!and Goblin the passing of the ghosts had me bawling tears.
I do give them props for depicting the struggles of alzheimer's on people and those around them though.

The theme of trauma and harsh expectations in a rich family were aspects I liked as well. It reminded me of the cut throat attitudes in Seri's family in CLOY. The building disaster also reminded me of Rain or Shine (Just between lovers) which may be why it was recommended as something to watch after viewing it.

I'll say this drama was quite the pallet cleanser after not enjoying One Spring Night and I believe it's a nice suggestion to watch if you liked Rain or Shine.
The only really negative thing I have to say is that I wasn't as satisfied with the ending as I thought I would be. I guess I wish there was more of a nice bow put onto the other character's story lines. Also the fact that Cha Young ran off to Greece again and Lee Kang went to go find her????
Like okay? Idk just felt funny, like it connects with how the story opened but why? XD

Anyway I still say give it a watch! Make your own opinions on it too cause I'm sure people would love to see more.

An Extraordinary kdrama

I saw a bunch of hype and complaints from various people on tik tok when this series was still coming out. Eventually I had to check it out for myself and I am so glad I did. This is not a drama I'd want to miss out on because the acting, story, and visuals were amazing!

I truly enjoyed Woo Young Woo's eureka moments every episode! It felt so unique and the imagery/ animations that would appear were wonderful as well! For instance the opening scene on the train/subway(?) with the whale swimming by and it's reoccurrence in the final episode were beautiful and fitting.

I really enjoyed the characters and story telling as well. The different angles to a case and the flow of it was fun to get immersed in. Similar to shows with mysteries, I found myself trying to solve/ think of other opportunities as well. Then when some cases didn't go the way I thought they would, I'd get emotional too. The topics they brought up were important as well like suicide/discrimination, the study culture in Korea, sexism in the work place, etc. Additionally having an autistic character was interesting and informative as well.

I remember people getting upset at the romance plot coming up, but I think they handled it well and showed some challenges. Like it's not all sunshine and roses. Besides that, I also think viewers need to consider what people like seeing. With fictional shows we (or at least I'd like to think) tend to want to see people happy and living life. Sure that's another plot, but if I wanted to see someone sad and alone or being alone and a "girl boss/don't need no man/partner" type of thing I wouldn't be watching kdramas/TV shows. I'm here for the nice feels and vibes and seeing people find love and happiness.

Anyway, besides all that I really enjoyed the cast and the characters themselves. I'm so thankful there will be a second season because I miss them already. Plus there is more character stuff I'd like to see, like from attorney Min-woo, we only got a small glimpse into his family and life. It's the same with Su-yeon, I'd just love to see more!

I bet my review seems like a mess and what not, but I'm just sharing my emotions towards this series off the top of my head after finishing it. I legit went through it so quickly, then held off watching the last episode because I didn't want it to end!

It's that good y'all! If you're hesitating to watch, JUST DO IT!!
