'12.12: The Day' draws attention amid declaration of martial law by South Korea's president
The premiere date of tvN's new drama Resident Playbook, starring actress Go Youn Jung, remains undecided.
On December 3, tvN revealed its 2025 drama lineup and also announced a new Wednesday-Thursday drama slot in the latter half of next year.
The lineup includes several new dramas such as When the Stars Gossip, starring Lee Min Ho, Gong Hyo Jin, and Oh Jung Se; Seocho-dong, starring Lee Jong Suk and Mun Ka Young; Typhoon Boss, starring Lee Jun Ho and Geum Sae Rok; and Unknown Seoul, starring Park Bo Young and Park Jin Young among many more.
However, in the lineup, the medical drama Resident Playbook isn't included.
Resident Playbook was scheduled to premiere in the first half of 2024 but was postponed to next year. Regarding the K-drama being delayed, tvN stated, "Resident Playbook's broadcast schedule has not been decided yet."
The delay is due to the doctors strike in South Korea earlier this year.
Amid public criticism surrounding the strike, concerns emerged about whether the drama, which depicts the growth and struggles of resident doctors as they work tirelessly for their patients, could resonate with viewers, as medical K-dramas often glorify doctors and their unwavering commitment to duty even in the face of extreme injustice and hardship.
On the other hand, others argue that it is, after all, a fictional drama and should be viewed as entertainment only.
Hospital Playlist's spinoff, Resident Playbook is a drama about doctors working at Yulje Hospital. It revolves around their hospital lives and friendship. Hospital Playlist's writer Kim Song Hee penned the script, and Lee Min Soo directed the K-drama. Apart from Go Youn Jung, Shin Shi Ah, Kang Yoo Seok, Han Ye Ji, and Jung Joon Won also star in Resident Playbook.
