Hi, my dear MDLers!
I'm unconditionallyyours. And it's been 1 year, 7 months, and 9 days since I got into dramas, but who's counting? What's important is the journey! So here, today, I bring to you my amazing drama journey which holds great importance to me. I hope you like it :)
Let's get started!
The History
I got into dramas on November 4, 2019. (Haha, I know it's odd that I remember the date.) I got into dramas because of a YouTube recommendation for the drama All I Want for Love is You. I had just completed my exam so I had free time to watch it. I remember it took me 4 days to complete 32 episodes... Boy, that sounds like such a long time period now...
A story full of laughs follows sanda fighter Gu Xiao Man and school genius Zuo An as they chase after love. Graduation is fast approaching for 3rd-year high school student Gu Xiao Man. Unlike your average school girl, she is a sanda fighter who wins medals at the sport but not in class. Because she wants to continue to be schoolmates with her idol Zuo An, she decides to put in the same effort into academics as she does with sanda. Her hard work combined with Zuo An's efforts to be her personal teacher pays off and they get into the same university. There's nothing sweeter than to have your crush crushing on you. This is one of the best rom-com Cdramas out there. I highly recommend it. It sure is a predictable Chinese rom-com as usual. Also, don't take its concept seriously. It's a school rom-com. It isn't supposed to be serious...
I was very much into romance dramas for a long time, but then I started discovering other genres when I went back to my first Kdrama.
I watched the Kdrama Sweet Revenge in the summer of 2018, but at that time I wasn't able to explore more dramas.
This web drama is a teen fantasy drama about a teenager who gets her hands on a note that enacts revenge on anyone whose name is written on it. Source= MDL No. Of episodes=22 |
It sounds like a death note, but a lighter version...
Tbh I don't have many thoughts on this as I watched it a long time ago. But what I know for sure is that this is a show worth watching. Although it's a suspense drama, it is not worthy of being compared to dramas like The Penthouse (this is nowhere near The Penthouse level), but it's a good light watch.
The change in genre preference also helped in changing my POV on different topics, and I'll say that it was huge character development for me. I stopped judging the characters based on the story and instead started coming up with my own opinions on them. Rom-coms tend to have a basic format for the plot and highly predictable characters, so it's useless to brainstorm your opinions.
Drama Preference
Before
I'm not even gonna sugarcoat it, my drama preference at the start was just like that of a bubbly teenage girl who thought of romance all the time. I actually never felt this way at that time, but now that I look back, this description is the most accurate one.
I am not saying that these kinds of dramas aren't good. These dramas are some of the most hyped ones that I can think of, but it's just that my watching style has changed.
Some dramas that I loved during this phase were:
This drama is so good, in terms of acting, plot, as well as the cast. I still love this drama. One of the main reasons why I like it is that it was one of the first dramas I watched.
At the time I watched this, it was so hyped up... I remember people being a simp for Yang Yang. But I'll admit that it wasn't as good as people made it to be. It just had too many perfect characters. That's very unrealistic, but then again nothing about dramas is realistic. |
After
At the moment, I like fantasy dramas, action, medical, and military dramas much more. My POV towards rom-com has surely changed. Before, I used to like more exaggerated plots. But now I like classics yet original, innocent love (?) I guess that is the best way I can put it. I now like dramas with a more unique approach rather than the repetitive, same old plot.
Fantasy dramas are just... they are just soooo good. And if it's a drama with a savage FL, that's just the cherry on top. Some of my favorite dramas that are not from rom-com POV are:
I don't think I even need to mention why I like it. This drama is a total gem in terms of acting, plot, as well as casting. Not to forget our favorite legendary bromance. (This is not a gif, don't wait for it to work)
I'll say this drama is quite underrated, not in terms of ratings, but rather popularity. I started this drama without any expectations but it really blew my mind. This is a drama that should be very hyped.
This drama is my love; it reminded me that good school Cdramas still exist. I often saw in YouTube comment sections that drama was really good, so out of curiosity, I started it, and it was worth my time! I rewatch this from time to time.
Do I even need to say it? Everyone knows how much I love this drama. Although it isn't the best drama in terms of presentation, as it was quite confusing at the start, trust me, it's all worth it... |
At the start, I didn't like this drama's hype. One of the reasons for that is that I didn't like the ML actor like I literally hated him. But then out of boredom, I started it and it wasn't that bad. I Gotta say I've come to like ML. It's neural right now, I neither like him or hate him. |
This drama... it's a gem, a hidden gem, a very valuable gem. This may seem like the School series but it actually isn't. It focuses on one story and it has been portrayed very beautifully. The development, the truth, the realization -- everything was on point. I actually started this because of Nam Da Reum, as I know he does good dramas. As expected, it was really good. |
But I feel like my drama preference is evolving again. I have yet to discover where it's headed this time, so let's leave that story for another day...
Favorite movies
I discovered this on YouTube one day. (Actually, it was a fan-made MV and it was so good.) This movie has a very different and interesting topic. It isn't a rom-com, not a fantasy... it's a perfect slice of life movie. Those little fun moments between the leads always make me smile. I don't know much about the leads,so I won't comment on the acting or tasting, but the plot was quite good. for me
What do I say about this? It is a short movie about finding yourself, understanding who you really are, and accepting yourself. I haven't seen anything like this before so it left a huge impact on me. This is not a light-hearted movie; it's a serious one that will leave you with many deep thoughts...
I saw a post about this movie on the feed, so I started it. I already knew that this was gonna be a serious one, but I watched it anyway.... I'll quote something I read in an article about this movie. "Happiness is not a story, misfortune is." These are the words that correctly describe this movie, how the leads lifted themselves from nothing, but still managed to be happy with what they had.
Again, I discovered this on YouTube and started this without reading the synopsis. At the start, I was quite confused about what was happening, but I gotta say, this is quite a good movie; it didn't have a huge significant after effect, but it's a feel-good movie. |
I started this movie on YouTube without reading the synopsis. I've seen the main actress in many movies before and she usually has good stuff, so I was assured that this was gonna be a good watch. Kind of a sad movie, but I like that ML never gave up on FL and always motivated her. |
Favorite actors
I first saw her in A Little Thing Called First Love and I was very satisfied by her work. She's so talented at such a young age. I've seen many of her dramas and damn, she slays every role she plays! And she's so pretty haha.
I don't remember where I first saw him, but he sure got my attention as I saw him in literally every Kdrama. I guess he was the first choice of many directors as the "young ML." He's good at his work too. I can say I've seen many of his works and he definitely is one of the best young actors. And this picture... damn he's looking so fine! |
(I'm talking about the older guy in the picture) I have seen two of his dramas. He plays similar kinds of roles, that of the handsome, smart guy with a mysterious aura, and he plays them so well! I was so amazed when I first saw him in Find Yourself, and TBH... I'm just gonna say it... he's kinda hot. I didn't like Beautiful Reborn Flower because CEO dramas aren't my thing. I also wasn't a big fan of In The Class Of Her Own because it seemed he could've played that role way better; that just wasn't his best that I've seen. |
OSTs
The songs... they are so perfect! I can't even... I know its songs by heart! They're some of the best songs I've heard so far! Someday or One Day - Shi Shi Last Dance - Wu Bai
I wouldn't have even known about the OST of this show if it wasn't for wetv forcing me to listen to it. I realized that it has some pretty good songs! Kinda fluffy and quite good. I never thought Wang Bowen had such a good voice! It left me amazed!
Although I dropped this drama, I can't deny the fact that its OST is good. I guess it got to my head because it was played so many times in the show haha. For You - F4
I dropped this drama, and I didn't even know this song existed until a few months ago when Spotify decided to make me listen to it. I was so amazed because the song is so good! Not what I expected actually... I Think I Fell into the Sea of Love - 趙露思, 谷嘉誠 |
Totally unexpected, this has such a pretty ost! I didn't even realize that I was already singing it unconsciously. As I said I don't listen to many OSTs as I don't have a habit of paying attention to them but this grabbed all my attention! My Trouble- BOL4 |
I don't think I'll let my heart out like this ever again as it was very brain-consuming. But, you know...
Well, that's it, everyone. I hope you liked this article about my drama journey because I had fun discovering so much about it.
Thank you @Anushka and @Mademoiselle Noir for helping me out with the article, I really appreciate your help. ❤
