My top three Japanese mystery/ action/ thriller movies.

Hello, here I am again with my top three movie list, this time with Japanese movies. This is a personal top three, but I'd like to know what yours is!

Brain Man

Country: Japan    Year: 2013     Genre: Action, Crime, Detective, Mystery, Sci-Fi

Storyline: Neurosurgeon Mariko Washiya (Matsuyuki Yasuko) believes that human nature is fundamentally good and therefore tries to save criminals. When a small town is terrorized by multiple explosions, Ichiro Suzuki (Ikuta Toma) AKA Brain Man is caught as an accomplice to the crimes. Mariko takes interest in the Brain Man since he seems vacant to any emotion, is extremely well-built and highly intelligent. Will she find the answers she has been looking for?

Why you should watch this: The movie is quite slow-paced but the build-up is great! The actors are top-notch and extremely convincing while acting in this movie. I highly enjoyed it - there's a lot of action, thrilling scenes and mysterious moments. I also loved the fact that they didn't ruin this movie with romance. It kept me on the edge of my seat! The plot is unique and epic and it made me go "wtf!".

Library Wars

Country: Japan     Year: 2013     Genre: Action, Drama, Manga, Military, War

Storyline: In 2019 the Japanese government is passing the Media Betterment Act (MBA) as a law, which allows full censorship of any media that seems harmful to the Japanese people. There is no freedom in reading anything so a ANTI-MBA is set up. Kasahara Iku (Eikura Nana) joins the ANTI-MBA and gets put through hardships as a woman when she is trained by Dojo Atsushi (Okada Junichi). They both enter the Library Task Force and both fight to protect the books they had sworn to keep safe.

Why you should watch this: It makes you wonder about censorship - I never gave it much thought but after this movie, I definitely did. I really liked the pacing of it, the main leads' chemistry was well felt throughout the movie. The action parts were greatly produced and almost perfect. I had never seen a movie about this subject before so I was highly interested during the whole film.

Sequel: Library Wars: The Last Mission.

Platina Data

Country: Japan     Year: 2013     Genre: Action, Crime, Investigation, Mystery, Sci-Fi, Suspense, Thriller

Storyline:  When a new system for mapping DNA called the Platinum Data is developed for all the residents of Japan, everyone is convinced it will create a better, safer society, free from crime. But when the creator of the system, Kagura Ryuuhei (Ninomiya Kazunari), is accused of murder, he must prove his innocence and unravel a mystery at the center of which lies the Platinum Data itself.

Why you should watch this: There are some flaws to the movie and it is slow-paced but try to look past that. I found the story intriguing - it has a unique look on the DNA system. The visual effects were very good and there was a good amount of suspense. This movie was unpredictable and it kept me thinking all the way to the end.

I'd like to know what you think about these movies, have you watched them? Are you going to watch one of the movies listed above? Do you have more recommendations? Let me and others know. :)
