KBS Drama Awards 2013
KBS is the last pie of South Korean broadcasting channels’ awards for 2013 and apparently the fairest one. I must admit I haven’t seen all the rages in KBS this year but I saw enough to think that this was a great year for the channel. But then again, Jang Hyuk didn’t get a thing for his role in IRIS 2. News flash people:Just because the drama didn’t hit the ratings, it doesn’t mean that the actor (or actors) didn’t do well.
At any rate, here are the winners at KBS this year:
Grand Prize:
Absolutely no clue about the actress or the drama so no comment on that side but I’ve got to ask: Is this a cosplay? That vampire outfit is seriously a major problem.
Best Actor (Top Excellence Actor), Netizens’ Award and PD Award (chosen by PDs from KBS, SBS & MBC):
Although Kim Hye Soo won the Daesang, Joo Won got away with all the other important prizes of the night. I haven’t seen Good Doctor since I can’t watch medical dramas but I heard a lot about Joo Won’s performance. Even if I can’t comment on his acting in that drama, I’ve got to say that the guy looks so well in tuxedos.
Best Actor (Top Excellence Actor) and Popularity Award:
Two actors got the Top Excellence Actor Award in KBS this year. I really wished that Jang Hyuk was the third but oh well, Ji Sung also deserves it; he did quite well in Secret. And the popularity award was also evident. He was the best stalker ever.
Best Actress (Top Excellence Actress) and Netizens’ Award:
Compared to all the actresses in KBS this year; Jung Eum was practically the best. Just watch the fourth and fifth episode of Secret and you will understand what I mean. She did a respectable job with her role in Secret.
Excellence Actor (Mini-Series):
Excellence Actress (Mini-Series):
Yoona is an excellence actress? Okay, I am not watching the drama but is she that good? The girl can’t improve in a year, right? And wait, the drama didn’t even finish airing yet!
Excellence Actor (Medium Length):
Now that’s what I call a great choice! I haven’t watched the drama but I got full confidence in Sang Wook's acting skills. And can I say that he looks ravishing in that suit?
Excellence Actress (Medium Length) and Popularity Award:
Unsurprisingly evident; Chae Won is a good actress that deserves recognition. I am surprised that she didn’t get the Netizens’ Award instead of Hwang Jung Eum, but she got the popularity award after all.
Excellence Actor (Drama – Long Series):
Excellence Actress (Drama – Long Series):
Excellence Actor (Daily Drama):
Excellence Actress (Daily Drama):
Lee So Yeon is really a great actress that's not getting the appropriate attention from the international audience. While I am not watching Ruby Ring nor do I have any attention to watch a long Korean makjang, I would really love to see So Yeon in a short drama soon. I missed her performance that's very higher than many other plastic actresses.
Best Couple Award:
~ Joo Won & Moon Chae Won (Good Doctor)
~ Ji Sung & Hwang Jung Eum (Secret)
~ IU & Jo Jung Suk (You’re the Best Lee Soon Shin)
~ Kim HyeSoo & Oh Ji Hoo (Queen of Office)
~ Lee BumSoo & Yoona (Prime Minister & I)
This year, they announced many couples; I wonder why. Was it too hard to pick only one couple?
Best Supporting Actor:
Yes he did well so the award is well-earned. Let’s hope that he changes the melodramas’ role that he’s been accepting ever since I first knew him.
Best Supporting Actress:
She did manage to make me irritated with her presence; I still can’t figure out if it’s the character or the actress' expressions. On the other hand, how did you manage to attend both KBS and SBS Awards? Were you using a Helicopter? I mean she also changed the dress in between.
Best New Actress:
Shark got mentioned but not for the drama itself; it’s for the rookie that proved herself in a drama that failed KBS in ratings.
Best New Actor:
Best Child Actor:
Best Child Actress:
That little thing is not only cuteness overload but she's also one of the best child actors out there. I am really happy for the award she got.
Special Short Drama Actor:
Special Short Drama Actress:
Best Scriptwriter:
Moon Young Nam (Wang’s Family)
Taken as a whole, I wasn’t quite happy with the awards this year; some of them didn’t make sense and others I am still trying to ingest. Let’s not forget the “ignored list” of good actors that were never mentioned. However, I still liked some of the choices at times. SBS and KBS had a much stronger year than MBC when it comes to drama but KBS was the best with its choices. It wasn’t perfect but it was more logical than the other two channels.
That would be it for 2013’s Awards, Congratulations to all winners and let’s hope that 2014 will be even better.
Before I leave, I must wonder: Why are the majority of Korean actresses so fond of wedding dresses?
