DBSK - Who's the Better Actor?

A controversial topic for my first article, why not? :D

Speaking as a K-drama fan, with K-pop in her periphery, I am in the ultimate position to deliver a relatively unbiased view of who I think is the better actor. I first became aware of DBSK (TVXQ outside of Korea) ironically just after they disbanded, or in "layman" terms: split into two. Hero, Micky, and Junsu forming JYJ while Max and Yunho continue with TVXQ as a duo.

I noticed there was a fair disadvantage though in terms of experience.

Junsu has only made cameo appearances of himself, whilst Micky is the "YES-MAN" and accepts projects left, right, and centre.

So no throwing rotten vegetables, please! I am only going by their filmography so far.











Boo! I hear your holler. Or maybe you agree?

I know he was a guest in Poseidon, but 4 episodes is hardly enough, for me to start watching the entire thing. He has done mostly cameos and was the main lead in a 2009 drama called Heading to the Ground. Suffice to say. I've never heard of it, until I researched Yunho's past.

More recently, he was cast as the second lead in the drama Queen of Ambition.

Now personally, his character was part of the reason why I stopped watching it. Whilst I struggled with ranking the other DBSK members, Yunho was the easiest to place. His acting is suited for High School dramas, and even then, I would prefer someone with more range. Harsh, I know, but if he wants to improve, there's always practicing in front of a mirror.










This guy or in fact any guy, is a God, compared to Yunho. So all right. It was a cameo appearance. But it was a freaking AWESOME cameo appearance that required acting. Episode 5 of Scent of a Woman is literally my favourite episode of that drama (alongside the steamy tango scenes that later followed, hem hem) because OF THIS GUY.

It was friggin' cool of the Dr. to take Kim Sun Ah's character to see Junsu's "fan-greeting."

More dramas please. This time, with a meatier acting role as it‘s the only thing stopping you from getting 3rd place. Serious potential!












Not that it was a bad drama.

But the fashion-sense wasn't great and I found the pairing a weird match-up. The female lead was portrayed as extremely scatter-brained, that a few of my friends dropped the drama purely because of her. Max...was okay. He looked really young, and I found myself disbelieving he was old enough to drink, let alone have a torrid love affair, get married, get divorced and now return as a "man of the world."








Aw. I'm too hard on him, aren't I?

Suffice to say, that cameo of Junsu sets me more alight than the entire 16 episodes of Paradise Farm. Yeah.








Oh, this is really really painful. I wanted to put Jaejoong first, because he is very insecure about his acting and that is what prevents him from accepting more male leads. The one standout movie is Postman to Heaven. He also accepted second leads in Protect The Boss, a delightful rom-com, and Time Slip Dr Jin to name a few. He was charismatic in both and even played a villain in the latter. And let's face it. He's the pretty one of the group :)

However the fact he avoids male leads, counts against him purely just this once.

And his acting is far from perfect, though he genuinely does his best. Bless him.

In the end, I couldn't put him first, just because I wanted to be a morale-booster. Jaejoong needs to build his self-confidence up, practice more, and maybe he'll take  #1 spot someday. Hwaiting!









Now I have a special coinage reserved just for him. He's the "flirty one" by a mile. I was squirming in my seat, when even the actress playing his sister HIT ON HIM, during Missing You. Seriously. Do you know how much I was cringing, when she playfully swatted his arming going, "Oppa! If only you weren't my brother...wink, wink, wink."









If she was just teasing or what, it weirded me out.
He also kept snuggling the life out of his step-mom, and even flirted with the cleaner who came into the Police Station! Seriously. Get the boy on a leash.

I think the writers were bang on capturing Micky's personality, because he's like that in real life.

Credit given, where credit is due. Micky is FANTASTIC at humour. Rooftop Prince displayed that to a tee. Although not every drama he's in is guaranteed to be a winner, which Miss Ripley demonstrated aptly. But this is the drama, where I love him the most. 2010 saw Micky the best I've ever seen him in Sungkyunkwan Scandal, playing the righteous Lee Sun Joon.

This portrayal was unique in K-drama land, because it was the first time I'd seen a male lead, who was obsessed with complying with the law all the time. Most of us tend to swoon over "bad boys." But here, I swooned over his honour and morality.





So here's my ranking of the DBSK boys! Do you agree? Disagree?
