One of the best KDramas I have ever watched ....... Best actors.....all....love them....the driver/bodyguard/runner....even the rich father and the step mom, well written characters....believable! no boring over-d-top villains that do evil things that makes no sense.
Great ending, highly entertaining.
I don’t usually watch melodrama but this is recommended , I was pleasantly surprised , thanks to the writer and director....please do more of this caliber. I’ll keep track of their other works.
I didn’t expect the ending , I mostly don’t watch the last episodes simply I get bored and already expecting what’s the usual ending which is.....that the main characters end up living happily ever after....most kdramas have boring dead-like kisses to finalized the story....this one is really juicy, and there’s closure , there’s justice and done really well. Good writing , good cinematography....both leading actresses two thumbs.

One of the best Kdramas all time

This is one of the best K dramas I ever watched. It flows with a great storyline and the cast has done an amazing job. There were many occasions that made me cry. This is one of the emotional K dramas I watched after a long time.
I fell in love with the series and finished the series within 2 days. Usually, I dropped watching a drama when the first 2 episodes fail to get my attention. But Secret grabs my attention since the start and I couldn't resist stopping watching the drama continuously. Main lead couple has done a great job and supporting cast also contribute to the story at their best. Also, the series has such nice OSTs which created much attachment to the scenes emotionally while watching the drama

the best melodrama i have watched to-date, hands down

finished, yasss!

honestly this drama was brilliant in every sense of the word. particularly for the lead couple, they are the perfect cast for this drama. can't praise them enough!

i am however slightly dissatisfied with the business aspects of the story. Attorney Ahn kept repeating that he worked very hard to climb to the top, but it seemed like things got easy for him because of So Yeon, LOL. also the last plan of them when him and So Yeon teamed up to make sure Min Hyeok agrees to the marriage if he doesn't want to destroy both him and So Yeon together. they literally glossed things over and didn't elaborate properly about what exactly they threatened him with, and how those dealings came to be. they have also never bothered to show Se Yeon's politician father not even once, LMAO. would have been so nice if that part was included properly into the story. mostly we got Min Hyeok who was seen always busily chasing around Yoo Jeong for his revenge LOL, but it's a missed opportunity that they didn't show exactly what type of a businessman he is.

i feel like ep. 15 of this drama could have been ep. 19 instead, with those bits filled in that would make the story a lot more complete. i came away feeling mainly dissatisfied with how weak Attorney Ahn tried to topple him, and how rushed everything felt at the end LOL. the story would have gotten more dynamic and stronger if they made him a smarter, more ruthless/wicked villain who is willing to do just anything and more evil things to avoid the fall.

i kept comparing this drama in my head with The Innocent Man, which the latter could be said more complete (3 main characters, able to be stretched out to 20 episodes). they fleshed out the power struggle story really well there, whilst here it's the main love story and the melodramatic life of the FL that they did extremely well.

UNDERRATED GEM

Sometimes it pays to scroll through the list of Kdramas, where I’m sure are many gems. Attracting and mesmerizing me was “Secret Love.” A side note: You have to be careful here, there are several “Secret Love” shows, so it becomes confusing. Therefore, it’s important to know the main leads. For this review, it’s a Korean version, 2013, starring Ji Sung, whose wife is Lee Bo Young-love everything she does-marvelous actress, Hwang Jung Eum, Bae Soo Bin, and Lee Da Hee. Like a lot of shows, it’s about class, power, and business marriages. Each actor displayed believable characters and developed them in each episode. Outstanding though, was Ji Sung’s role as Jo Min Hyuk. I’ve seen a lot of K-dramas and other movies. By far, watching Jo Min evidence the transition from lauding his power to having fallen for Yoo-Jung, is the greatest I’ve ever seen. His body language and facial expressions gave recognition that their relationship had changed. Culminating with him kneeling, as if to say, I see you, we are equals-realizing that his focus on her was twofold. It is definitely one for rewatching!

I wasn't going to watch this...but I'm so glad I did

I've heard about this drama for years now, and I thought that I had no interest in it at all. I don't always love melodramas, even though I've seen quite a lot of them, and I don't always like revenge dramas...and this one was both. So I had this drama under "Not Interested" for a long time and I thought that was that. But I recently read an article about hate-to-love dramas and there were so many comments recommending this, that I reluctantly said that I would try it. And MAN. I am so glad the drama fairies made this happen. WOW. I knew that all of the actors involved were top-notch but I had no idea that this drama would bring as many feels as this one has. This was a roller coaster ride and one that I'm thrilled to have finally decided to jump on.

Drammone vecchio stampo, ma ce ne fossero!

Quando si tratta di drama interpretati da Ji Sung, si va spesso a ricadere nel mio solito discorso: a mio modesto e personalissimo parere, Ji Sung è un dio. Più invecchia e più migliora, sia come viso che come recitazione. Può fare – e ha fatto – qualsiasi cosa, e alla grandissima. La sua capacità di calarsi nei personaggi, di farci percepire le emozioni più sottili o, al contrario, le più devastanti, è qualcosa di magico. Riesce a reggere e a rendere plausibili le situazioni più drammaticamente improbabili. Purtroppo, però, lo ritroviamo spesso a recitare in opere in cui la sceneggiatura è, per certi versi, un po’ “troppo”. Questo show non fa eccezione.

Secret (love) è un drama sudcoreano del 2013, per la regia di Baek Sang Hoon (Descendants of the Sun, Love in the Moonlight, The King: Eternal Monarch) e Lee Eung Bok (Descendants of the Sun, Goblin, Mr. Sunshine) e la sceneggiatura di Choi Ho Chul e Yoo Bo Ra, in 16 episodi da circa un’ora ciascuno.

Si narra la storia di un quadrilatero pseudo amoroso. Min Hyuk (Ji Sung) è un ricco rampollo di buona famiglia, futuro erede di una società, collerico e a tratti meschino, riluttante a sposare l’amica Shin Se Yeon (Lee Da Hee), figlia di un politico e impostagli dal padre dispotico, perché ama una ragazza povera. Do Hoon (un ottimo Bae Soo Bin) è un onesto pubblico ministero fresco di nomina, fidanzato con Yoo Jung (una splendida Hwang Jung Eum), una panettiera che l’ha finanziariamente aiutato negli studi. Una notte di pioggia, mentre tornano a casa in auto, Do Hoon segretamente investe e lascia morire la fidanzata di Min Hyuk e alla fine Yoo Jung, fidandosene, per evitare di stroncargli la carriera, propone di dichiarare di essere stata lei alla guida, e finisce per beccarsi 5 anni, anche a causa della persecuzione contro di lei che Min Yuk porterà avanti per molti anni. Uscita di prigione, Yoo Jung scoprirà che le cose sono cambiate e, mentre Min Yuk continuerà ossessivamente a perseguitarla fino ad amarla, dovrà difendersi anche dal vecchio fidanzato e dalla sua famiglia, dalla gelosa Se Yeon e, insomma, un po’ da tutti.

La quantità di disgrazie e mortificazioni assortite che, a mezzo di fatalità o dell’intervento di diverse persone, precipitano sulla povera Yoo Jung, è indescrivibile. Si va – e l’elenco non è esaustivo - dalla carcerazione, alle ferite, alla perdita del figlio, dalla malattia mentale del padre alle umiliazioni assortite e alla continua tensione in cui la tiene Min Yuk, senza dimenticare le pressioni di ogni tipo che le fa l’ex fidanzato, terrorizzato all’idea che vengano scoperte le sue malefatte. La ragazza passa molto tempo a piangere, e Hwang Jung Eum lo fa benissimo, ma non solo: tutta la sua performance è convincente e misurata. Se qualcosa si può rimproverare al personaggio, è il suo continuo bisogno di inchinarsi e di scusarsi con chiunque. Eppure, per moltissimo tempo, nonostante le continue minacce di Do Hoon, rifiuterà di rivelare la verità a Min Yuk. Pare che sacrificio sia la sua parola d’ordine e a volte ci si scopre a sperare che la cambi.

Per contro Min Yuk, che vediamo in principio come un uomo egocentrico e facile alla collera, prono a pericolosi scoppi d’ira e francamente molto infantile, col tempo impara ad apprezzare Yoo Jung e, mentre continua la sua persecuzione con modi spesso da stalker psicopatico, cambia pian piano i suoi interventi, passando dalla punizione alla protezione, man mano che si rende conto che la ragazza è diversa da come se la immaginava e che forse in quella fatidica notte le cose sono andate diversamente dalla verità ufficiale.

Nel frattempo, l’ex onesto pubblico ministero Do Hoon, sentendosi minacciato da Yoo Jung e da Min Yuk, riesce a farsi assumere come avvocato dal padre di lui e ad assumere nella società una posizione di preminenza. Il comportamento sempre più minaccioso e traditore del legale, che si allea con Se Yeon contro Min Yuk e Yoo Jung e sembra disposto a distruggere tutto pur di mantenere nascoste le sue sempre più terribili malefatte, è magnificamente recitato da Bae Soo Bin, veramente superbo in questa parte così repellente. Ha recitato così bene che, sulla piattaforma di Rakuten Viki, una buona parte dei commenti degli utenti erano insulti al suo personaggio. In verità, anche Min Yuk si è preso la sua buona dose di (meritati) insulti, e perfino Yoo Jung, giudicata troppo arrendevole e votata all’inutile sacrificio.

Insomma, ci troviamo di fronte ad un drammone, un vero e proprio melodramma vecchio stampo, prono all’esagerazione, che occorre guardare dimenticando, almeno a tratti, l’esistenza delle parole ‘logica’ e ‘plausibilità’. A parte la massa delle miserie che capitano alla povera Yoo Jung, che manco a Candy Candy, si potrebbe legittimamente chiedersi come, in una grossa società, ad un avvocato appena arrivato vengano affidate posizioni di potere. Le scelte di Se Yeon sono abbastanza estreme e spesso incomprensibilmente autolesionistiche. Il rapporto della coppia principale (Min Yuk e Yoo Jung) è tossico e si sviluppa in maniera morbosa: lui la perseguita ossessivamente ed è almeno concausa di parte delle tragedie che la colpiscono ma, in seguito, pare vittima di una specie di sindrome di Stoccolma al contrario per cui la sua ossessione dall’odio passa all’amore. E questo, nel suo personaggio, potrebbe anche essere comprensibile: la bella ha domato la bestia. Ma la bella, dopo aver subito infinite angherie, tra l’altro completamente immeritate, come può così velocemente innamorarsi della bestia? Diciamo che fa parte del suo carattere.

Tutto ciò, però, potrebbe essere superabile. Se riesce l’operazione mentale ‘segui la storia senza farti troppe domande’, Secret è un drama emotivamente intenso, dove la tensione rimane alta, senza troppi cedimenti, per tutta la durata dell’opera. Forse il finale è stato un po’ affrettato, ma comunque le vicende terminano in modo soddisfacente, alcuni cattivi vengono puniti, altri la fanno franca, ma il mondo sappiamo che non è perfetto.

Ci sono però almeno due punti che potrebbero essere controversi. Il primo riguarda ( SPOILER ) un’adozione irregolare. Lascio il giudizio allo spettatore.

Il secondo, veramente fastidioso, è il vizio che hanno sia Min Yuk che Do Hoon di strattonare e trascinare Yoo Jung qua e là per un braccio. Chiaro che è una scelta registica, d’accordo che siamo in Corea, nel 2013, però è veramente irritante vedere un uomo trattare in questo modo una ragazza, come se fosse una cosa normale. Qualcuno potrebbe dire che a farlo sono i due personaggi figli di buona gatta, e che questa caratteristica aggiunge al loro essere negativi (e infatti verso la fine Min Yuk non lo fa più), ma è sgradevole ugualmente. Tra l’altro, ogni tanto volano anche schiaffi, senza badare troppo al genere di chi li tira e di chi li piglia, tanti che non ne vedevo così dai tempi dei fotoromanzi.

Per rifarci la bocca, possiamo affidarci alla buona colonna sonora: Incurable Disease, Tears Stole the Heart di Ailee, Heights of Wind Storm di Ji Sung hanno certamente costituito un valore aggiunto alla serie, così come la splendida cinematografia, ricca di scene visivamente appaganti e inquadrature particolari.

Insomma, forse bisognerebbe smettere di fare le pulci ai drama, come se fosse divertente dissezionarli scena per scena per trovarvi difetti. E’ vero, Secret è un drama forse antiquato, vagamente imperfetto, con alcuni punti deboli e trama non sempre logica. Ma la carica emotiva trasmessa dal trio principale, nel bene e nel male, è un potente collante che costringe lo spettatore a saltare compulsivamente dalla sigla di coda di un episodio a quella d’inizio del successivo fino a quando, arrivati all’ending del sedicesimo, non ci si rende conto quasi con sgomento che non ci sarà un’altra puntata da vedere. Per la sottoscritta, questo è l’inizio di una potente crisi di astinenza, che cercherà di placare andando a cercare un’altra serie interpretata da Ji Sung. Prima o poi le finirò, e già la cosa mi rattrista.

Vista con el tiempo, sigue atrapando igual

Vista en 2023 y ha tenido que ser en modo maratón. Totalmente vigente y actual.
Increíbles las actuaciones de los 3 personajes principales, la pareja y el fiscal.
Ella, sobre todo, me ha hecho empatizar como nunca, llorar con ella y a la vez sentirme algo reconfortada por su fortaleza.
De él destaco el suave paso del odio a la comprensión y amor. Casi ni te das cuenta, pero ves natural su obsesión por protegerla.
Quizá yo de ella habría 'despertado' antes para dejar de pedir disculpas por todo, pero ya es opinión personal.
Digna de recomendar, disfrutar y recomendar.

top 5 all time... bestest!

not many dramas i've watched more than once, but i lost count how many times i came back to re-watch this (at least some episodes). Ji Sung is genius for sure, and FL also exceptional in her character. is it realistic? sure not on the whole, but some scenes are sooo believable. it does rely on clichés, and we expect them to be there, but they are on a new level, burning with fire.
a lot of tension, a lot of chemistry, but not in a superficial way. support cast does the job to perfection! a lot of handsome faces, but again - there's more than just good looks to each and every one.................................................................................................
dont let the word melodrama put you off ! it's not just melodrama to this, it's really an all-rounder. cathartic!..................................
i watch this and i dont want to even blink for fear i might miss something. ☜♡☞

Great handling of the plot, the way it unraveled is rarely seen in series, it had very smart decisions by the writer and no uneccessary flashbacks and excessive explaining that make the writers seem like they think the audience is dumb. Great cinematography. The acting was superb, even the many crying scenes which usually annoy me, here felt necessary. Even though it had the trope of the rich chaebol it was handled so perfectly that it didn't matter. Every episode kept me entertained. Every side character was shown in ways that let the viewer know their every thought and motive, I cared about them and understood their points of view. Great "villain" because his actions were realistic and not just for the sake of being evil, the scariest villain is the one that we can imagine being around us in real life.

This is one of my favourite dramas and would recommend it to many

The story was well written and the actors were compelling in their roles plus the main characters chemistry is outstanding.

I found the story to be an amazing portrayal of what people do for love. To see the entanglement of the characters story and watch as they slowly "untangle" it was thrilling. It really made me feel for the characters and got me invested in their story. Seeing what they go through and seeing them get their revenge ( and they do get it ) made it all the more amazing.

Hwang Jang Eum and Ji Sung have amazing chemistry. No matter what drama they act in with or without one another, they still give an amazing performance. ( I suggest watching Kill me, Heal me to get more of the two actors )

%100 would re-watch! Always think of going back after watching some MV on youtube for this drama!

WOW!!!! What a phenomenal show!!! Hwang Jung Eum (Kang Yoo Jung) and Ji Sung (Jo Min Hyuk) were absolutely amazing in this!! If you want a show that grabs hold of you from the get go then this is it! It's jammed with turmoil, love, and tears. Twists and turns throughout. This is the second drama I have scene with the two main actors, Kill me Heal Me was the first so I thought to myself to try this out, the pairing couldn't be better!! So many tears!!! OMG I think I cried a river!!!
If you want something slightly different from a regular drama, take this for a spin you won't regret it!

O que tenho a dizer sobre esse Kdrama?

Comecei a ver porque a sinopse parecia interessante, e porque uma amiga me recomendou esse drama dizendo que era ótimo mas eu sinceramente nao esperava tanta sofrência.

Recomendo que você comece esse drama somente quando estiver preparada psicologicamente, para ver a protagonista sofrer muito e durante a historia toda.

Eu realmente odiei com todas as minhas forças o maldito promotor que era noivo dela na época, senti vontade dar uma surra nele em diversos momentos, você pode ate achar que já viu vilões muito maldosos por ai, mas ele coloca muitos deles no chinelo a cada episodio esse individuo apronta mais uma, e o pior de tudo isso é ver como o amor que ela tinha por ele a cegou completamente de suas maquinações, e se passou um longo tempo ate que ela finalmente caisse a ficha de que ele não só nao a amava como era seu verdadeiro inimigo.

O comportamento dele é ridículo durante o drama todo e é lastimável ver ele alcançando o topo e ganhando poder passando por cima de tudo e de todos e ainda ter a audácia de se achar uma vitima das circunstancias. Sinceramente e apronta tantas que quando vai pagar pelo que fez já é tarde demais, já que nada vai conseguir trazer o tão amado filho dela de volta, muito menos seu sonho de viver feliz com seu pai.

Preciso dizer que a noivinha do protagonista era tão patetica que cheguei a me cansar de ver a cara dela, aquilo que ela sentia por ele chegou ao ponto de se tornar uma doença...

Claro que tínhamos que ter uma sogra diabólica nesse bolo todo não é mesmo? Socorro, nunca vi mulher mais maldosa que ela, foi ridículo o que ela fez com o filho da protagonista com a desculpa esfarrapada de proteger o monstro do seu filho. Me poupem, eu custo a acreditar que uma mulher tão tapada como aquela foi capaz de armar toda aquela manipulação de forjar a morte de uma criança e depois dá-lo para a adoção sem que ninguem descobrisse.

Me recuso a acreditar que alguem em sã consciência faria tamanhos sacrificios pelo namorado, percebi a todo momento que a mocinha nao tinha amor próprio e isso foi lastimavel, já que ela perdeu tudo mas tudo mesmo por causa da atitude impensada que tomou em assumir a culpa de um crime que nao cometeu.

Por fim, preciso falar que não gostei nenhum pouco do protagonista: Jo Min Hyuk, seus comportamentos eram ridiculos, suas atitudes super egoistas e mimadas, sem contar que achei um absurdo completo, e totalmente sem sentido esse individuo depois de ter infernizado a protagonista até o ultimo segundo, resolver dizer que está apaixonado por ela. Nem preciso ir longe para perceber que esse romance foi muito forçado e que torci para que ela terminasse sozinha!

O resumo da opera é que Secret é o drama mais sofrido que já vi na vida, então se você for assistir se prepare para sentir ódio de vários personagens e de suas atitudes.
