I loved this kdrama. I actually gave it a shot after my TikTok was just all about it and honestly I don't regret it. It was actually really nice and although the last episode might have had some unnecessary plot I didn't want to read too much into it and chose to enjoy the moment and not criticize it ( I get that it might have hit some sore spots but tbh it is a fictional show so there's no point in being all emotional about it and forgetting the good parts of the drama) All in all it was a wholesome drama and also my first drama of the year ( just because I refuse to watch any drama before it's fully released??)
I really liked it thanks to the actors, producers and the whole team for this show?

amazing kdrama not so amazing final episode
we dont talk about that last episode😶other than that a 10/10
the suspense was great. it kept you at the top of your seat the whole time and the ending of every episode left you wanting more. but i think what really stands out and makes this a great kdrama is the leads. they had phenomenal chemistry and just amazing acting overall. honestly they had some of the best kissing scenes in kdrama. loved yoo yeon seok since dr. romantic so i was already aware of his game but chae soo bin impressed me very much. BUT the last episode (and more importantly the whole argan thing) were really unnecessary and distasteful for me. following the source material so closely really was not it. i think that kdramas can really make a great show out of a not so amazing source material and honestly it was like that until episode 12. but atleast they were happy. 🤷♀️overall the other 11 were so good i can forget it. will definitely rewatch it (maybe skip a certain 10 minutes in ep12😗). but yeah really great kdrama exited to see whats next for both yoo yeon seok and chae soo bin🫰🎀

Gripping romance thriller with sublime acting
I was on kdrama slump after disappointment of Dreaming of a Freaking Fairy Tale & Cinderella at 2 AM. On 26 November 2024, I was about to watch cdrama on Netflix during lunch when the trailer of 'When the Phone Rings' automatically played.Mature looking male lead ✅
Arranged marriage ✅
Thriller ✅
Intriguing...I immediately clicked 'Play'. I was excited for the series!
What I liked:
1. Acting - Sublime acting by Yoo Yeon Seok & Chae Soo Bin followed by supporting cast such as Heo Nam Jun, Han Jae Yi, Yoo Sung Joo, Im Chul Soo, Park Yae Jun. Yoo Yeon Seok was great at microexpressions - just watch episode 6.
2. Romance - I wasn't fond of Baek Sa Eon's frosty attitude towards Hong Hee Jo at first but that facade was lost once he realised he could lose his wife.
3. Voice theme - Both Baek Sa Eon and Hong Hee Joo lost their voice and autonomy at the start of the series. I like that the show their growth and resilience in reclaiming their voice and position within their family.
4. Baek Sa Eon characterisation - He was cold and distant at the start of the series, which turned out to be his defense mechanism against potential threats. I love watching his character growth. One thing is consistent throughout the series: his commitment towards his marriage. There were plenty of shots featuring his wedding ring. Would love to see more of his negotiation skills, which was hinted in the last episode.
5. Hong Hee Joo characterisation - She's soft spoken and dainty but grew stronger once she found convinction. She in a nightgown and being cheeky with Baek Sa Eon was my favourite part of her character.
6. Sign language - It's wonderful to see significant sign language scenes being featured in a tv series. My favourites were 1) when Hee Joo did live sign language interpretation during her interview and when she and Baek Sa Eon used sign language in the lift.
7. Music - 'See the Light' is wonderful song - it's been added to my playlist. I love the score especially the one featured during the rescue.
8. Thriller - I love the thriller suspense elements of the series especially regarding the kidnapper. The shots were gripping!
What I disliked:
1. Argan arc - Hee Joo going to foreign land alone was silly because she didn't have an exit plan.
2. Crime connection - I think the scenes that connect kidnapper to his mastermind and the orphanage were too simplified.
Favourite scene:
Baek Sa Eon-406 caller scene at the end of episode 6

When the Phone Rings

When the Phone Rings: A Perfect Blend of Romance and Thriller
When the Phone Rings isn’t just a drama—it’s a journey through love, heartbreak, and moments that make your heart race. From the very first episode, it pulls you into its world with an irresistible mix of romance and suspense. The chemistry between the leads feels electric, the emotions raw, and every twist leaves you holding your breath. This isn’t just about love—trust, sacrifice, and the delicate ties that bind people together. The story balances heartwarming relationships with edge-of-your-seat thrills, creating a unique and unforgettable experience. It’s the kind of drama that lingers long after the credits roll, leaving you smiling, teary-eyed, and craving more.
If you’re a fan of romantic thrillers with a touch of Wattpad magic, When the Phone Rings will capture your heart and keep you hooked. This one’s not just a recommendation; it’s a must-watch. There are lot of tropes mentioned here like:
1. He fell first and harder
2. Marriage of convenience
3. Childhood friends
Loved the chemistry, YYS's acting, Mr. Kang, 2nd leads were also good, the friendhip between ML and his bestfriend and how he supported him in the worst moments, bonding between the 2 sisters <333

what a journey it was
when the phone rings is indeed a drama worth remembering because being relatively simple at its core, it brings in a tremendous psychological complexity of its characters and their relationships as well as a nicely developed plotline (though i wish some plotlines weren't so sidelined, but that's just a minor detail).a nearly perfect drama that carried us from 2024 to 2025, and i couldn't be happier about that.

great show
great show but where are the kids I feel like that's kind of my standards for a happy ending so I love it if I'm being honest the show is really all right I will say is the not the best show of 2024 but even so the beginning was really a roller coaster of emotion the middle was all right anyway ending was completely useless if I'm being honest overallConsiderați utilă această recenzie?
One of the best of 2024!
This drama went straight to my list of favorites for 2024! I absolutely loved everything about it—the story, the actors' chemistry, the incredible OST, the cinematography, and those plot twists. Everything felt so well done. Waiting each week for a new episode was pure torture, but it was totally worth it. (´・ᴗ・`)I couldn’t resist and ended up reading the novel, and while I don’t like to compare, I have to say there were things I loved more in the drama and others I preferred in the novel. But I won’t go into too much detail since I’m not planning to write a super long review.
I can’t skip over the chemistry between Yoo Yeonseok and Chae Soobin. Oh my God, those two were phenomenal! All their mukbang scenes had me kicking my feet and giggling like crazy. I swear, I’ll never get over them! (〃ノωノ) ❤️ Their connection went beyond the screen—you could even feel it behind the scenes. They’re both so professional, and it really showed in every scene they shared.
That said, while I loved the drama overall, I’m a little unsure about the ending. Don’t get me wrong—I enjoyed it, but I guess I was hoping for more romantic moments between the characters. After all, they spent years being indifferent to each other, and when things finally worked out, it’s natural to expect a bit more payoff after all that drama. Also, the whole Argan storyline felt a bit over the top to me. Even though it’s true to the novel, I think it might have worked better if they had tweaked or toned it down a bit for the drama. But honestly, I’m so in love with this that I’ll let that slide, lol. I really liked this Kdrama, and I’m really going to miss it and the characters. It’s definitely one that’ll stay with me for a long time! ❤️

Extremely unique and well made until it wasn’t
The last 2 episodes really pulled down the show , I don’t know who wrote the ending but it was extremely rushed and tried to tie all the plot lines in under an hour and it just didn’t execute well. The random war zone plot was also really random, rushed and didn’t fit the story whatsoever. The izmael and palatina line too? what were the writers thinking🌚It was still a overall really good kdrama but was there any need for all that? The acting and chemistry between the leads saved the entire kdramaConsiderați utilă această recenzie?
Best couple of the year
superb chemistry, the couple of the year 2024 for me and loved the OST, I really liked it and I was glad that I saw it all at once. I love the kisses scene, finally a FL that know yo kiss and be in a lovely, mature scene. The last episode seemed to be from another kdrama. They need to rewrite it. I liked the beauty of it but Argan place... why when you had so many things to unfold and to show to have a great finale.

I LOVED EVERY SECOND
Is the story logical? no. But that's the case with most of the classic kdramas, so if you've been around since BOF, you'll understand.Their chemistry was off the charts. I especially loved the fact that the characters are older, they feel more relatable compared to... other kdramas.
I've been a fan of Yoo Yeon Seok since his Mr. Sunshine days, so I was super excited to watch this.
Overall, I loved this rollercoaster. Definitely re-watch worthy!
