Again My Life (2022)

One of my new favorites. Main character is nearly a super hero.

9/10 is my rating. This is a 2022 South Korean legal fantasy drama with 16, 60 minute episodes.

First I will provide a synopsis then review

Synopsis

Kim Hui-u (Lee Joon-gi) is a naive but determined young prosecutor when he takes on a corrupt but powerful politician, Cho Tae-San (Lee Heun-young), and is killed for his effort. The Grim Reaper, Han Ji-Hyun (Cha Joo-young) gives Hee-woo a chance to go back 15 years to re-do the portions of his life that lead up to his showdown with the corrupt politician. She offers a second chance provided he does things different and makes it hell on earth for Cho Tae-seob. This is a justice and revenge drama with a thread of romance.

Review

The first portion of the drama shows where Hui-u dies then goes back and redoes school and helps people (utilizing his knowledge of future events) who he will later need as allies. That part drags a little and I got a bit bored. It picked up when he was back to being a prosecutor and taking down criminals at the lowest echelons of Tae-seob‘s criminal organization. I thought it was funny when he was okay with repeating everything except his time in the military. His horror that he had to repeat that portion was brought up several times. He was such a gentleman and so cool with the way he helped people that he had multiple girls vying for his attention.

Lee Joon-gi is one of my favorite male actors. The roles he picks are usually justice based on there is a lot of martial arts elements since he is such an amazing martial artist. He seems to like story lines where good overcomes evil in some way and justice prevails. As someone who hates bullies, loves to see the good guy win, and wants to see criminals brought to justice the roles he chooses checks all the boxes for me. So if I see he is in something that is the first thing that draws my interest. I like his acting and I know he chooses really good roles.

I so thoroughly enjoyed this series that I would highly recommend it, might even read the webtoon even knowing it may be a repeat of the story but just to get additional insight if there is any. I will definitely watch a second season because I am already missing Hui-u he was that compelling of a character. He had super hero status in my opinion. I loved the music, it was iconic and you knew something was going down whenever it started playing. A couple of the songs will be added to my playlist.

I looked at the webtoon for this and reading the first few chapters it seems the story follows really closely. I really like dramas that are webtoon based because it is like they were already pre-screened for being really good, well developed and interesting story lines.

This show has it all, it has action scenes, good versus evil, supernatural elements, legal drama and a little bit of romance sprinkled in. Romance is definitely not a central theme and it felt a little abrupt the romance line that came in at nearly the end. But, it was also set up for a 2nd season with a whole new set of villains.

I found it a little disappointing that Tae-sob committed suicide and wasn't led away in handcuffs. It felt like he won in being able to pick how he exited. I liked that the grim reaper was saved by Hui-u and that he said, when she got out of jail, he would help her get her life on track. Her brother was irredeemable and I was glad they didn't try to make it so all his murders were forgotten. They never fully explained what happened with her and her brother and how her brother was so brain washed by Tae-sob but that was a minor element. Tae-sob said something that made it sound like he was aware Hui-u had a past life but they never further expanded on that which makes me curious to read the webtoon and see if that is expanded on more.

Segunda chance

Como o nome já diz, Again My Life, o prota conseguiu uma nova chance de viver de novo e poder se vingar. Amei as amizades que ele construiu através dos anos, Hee Woo realmente é um amor de pessoa, maravilhoso em tudo que faz. A jornalista, o nerd da cadeira, e o "armário" foram meus personagens favoritos haha! Ele ter conseguido salvar os pais, foi lindo, eles são muito engraçados!
Tava tudo indo incrivelmente bem, tudo tão bem orquestrado, mas infelizmente o ep 15 e 16 caiu as expectativas, uma falha que levou a outra, e a outra, queria muito dar nota 10 pra esse drama mas por conta desses dois últimos eps não foi possível.
O Hee Woo virar político??? Eu ri muito kkkkk
Ele e a Hee Ah namorando??? Sendo que só tiveram química na época da faculdade, se tivessem colocado mais cenas deles flertando teria sido bem melhor.
Obs: a secretaria do deputado é simplesmente maravilhosa, queria um drama só dela!
E com esse final aberto, será que vem uma segunda temporada?

Great action revenge drama

I spend a really great time watching this drama. Lee joon Gi was the main reason to start it because for me it never a missed when he plays and this time again, I really like his work.

As promised the drama delivered a great action revenge story. I really enjoyed watching the step to bring down the villain and the trap that the main character settled. The main lead is easy to like, I mean, intelligent, kind, funny, strong with a good sense of friendship what else can we ask. Lee Joon Gi who take the role don’t disappoint me and did a really good job as always. The fight scene are really well filmed and knowing he did it himself makes me appreciate it even more.

For the rest of the cast, I appreciate every other perso except for Kim hee-ah. She was kind of boring and tasteless which is even more flagrant when we compared to the other girl especially Han mi who was my favorite. The villain was also really good and offered what we want.

Even though it’s a great drama, there is some negative things.
First, there is a lot of perso which means a lot of name. It was hard to remember and understand who they talked about especially if you’re not Korean. It was hard sometimes to make the connections between all the information there was.
Secondly, the pace at the end is weird. After a fast speed every things slow down to show some useless scene especially those with hee ah. I was really disappointed with the end. It lacks impact compared to the rest of the drama whereas it’s the big boss. I was not fully satisfied with the resolution.

Overall it’s a great action revenge drama and worth to watch.

For the cast

The story/cast/acting/music is good but the one thing that I notice is why kim hee a is the main character when she is barely in the scenes and shes barely interact with the mc until the last 3-4 episodes. This why upsetting me! why? Because if your a true k drama lover you will search the rating , cast and story of the k drama you want to watch if it is worth it to watch and i was angry because i was expecting more scenes of kim hee a because she was a MAIN CHARACTER but she is barely interact just like what happen in the ending they ending up with each other just like what i want but she was barely scene with the mc. Kim yuri was in the supp role but she was in the scenes most of the time. The show was hype and im eager to watch it despite of my time because i was hype from episode 1- 10 then the hype will down from 11 - 16 eps.

But is was a good revenge story though the time travel did not explain very well.

Way too easy

How the heck did San Mang survive that fall? He literally fell from the rooftop. How? How? Someone pls explain. Apart from that mind boggling event, I enjoyed this drama but not as much as I expected. It just felt like there wasn't much obstacles blocking Hee Woo's way in his 2nd life since he had all this information from his past life. Things went according to his plan almost all of the time. Due to this, it felt predictable and less exciting as I knew that he was most likely going to get his way. This is a good enough drama but not as a good Flower of Evil, not even close. And can they pls cast another actor as the villain for this type of drama next time. That actor has played so many of the same roles like can he please play like a poor person for a change or at least something else where he is not a chairman, an assemblyman, or someone with tremendous influence and power.

Again my life.

Again my life entregou muita coisa e eu AMEI! O roteiro foi muito bom, as amizades que trouxe, a força que o nosso protagonista Joon gi trouxe no seu personagem foi incrível. Eu amei o romance não romance na história. As partes cômicas do drama que dava uma leveza.
Eu fiquei feliz com o final sim, porque a gente sabe que é muito difícil derrubar toda essa gente ruim do mundo. Achei que ele poderia ter entregado um pouquinho mais em algumas cenas mas eu particularmente amei. Conhecer o trabalho de novos atores foi muito legal. Joon gi mora no meu coração <3

Lee Joon Gi è meraviglioso come uomo e come attore, i suoi combattimenti sono una gioia per gli occhi e recita molto bene. Non cominciamo neppure il discorso dei suoi occhi, che adoro in modo quasi pagano...

La storia ha i suoi meriti, ma purtroppo è stata un po' troppo allungata da troppi personaggi secondari e ultra-secondari sia buoni che cattivi che, per la mia personale percezione, hanno finito per confondersi irrimediabilmente uno con l'altro. L'hanno presa alla lontana: abbattiamo il deputato cattivo togliendogli prima l'appoggio dei suoi aiutanti. E potrebbe anche avere merito, come soluzione, solo che si è trascinata forse un po' troppo, sconfinando nel ripetitivo.

So che qualcuno non apprezza il fatto che, sostanzialmente, la sconfitta del deputato non risolva nulla. Ma era prevedibile: il sistema ricrea se stesso, la situazione preesistente tende a riformarsi. Se scompare un malvagio, qualcun altro prenderà il suo posto. L'affresco politico appare, purtroppo, plausibile e sconfortante. Del resto, l'intero drama è come sotto una cappa di disillusione.

L'ho guardato con piacere, ma dopo la metà mi sono annoiata un po'. Beh, accade quasi sempre.

Action Action & more Action

I think Lee Joon Gi pulls off hands down the best action sequences of all kdramas. Pair that with an epic plot line and the most powerful villain character and acting and you have what is called "Again my life" . It pulled me in at the first few episodes itself and somehow well connected all logical loop holes. You know you will be satisfied with action and plot watching this one as there was no bullshit about worrying about altering the future or intervening and all that crap. All most felt like I was watching an Isekai Anime too where the hero has all the cheat codes he can use to bring down the biggest nemesis of all time.

If you love law dramas and only law dramas its fine

I DNF'd this one after episode 4. Honestly I just didn't care about anyone. The cast didn't really seem to have a lot of chemistry and it was just boring to me. I've tried multiple law dramas and I think I've realized that I just don't like them ? I find all the law lingo and court mumbo jumbo dull and tedious but that's just me. Joon Gi was great as always but honestly I wasn't crazy about his characters either, he seemed to have no personality and all his friends felt interchangeable to me. I was really hope for more of a time travel drama but it's just a straight up law drama.

Lawyer/Political stuff that isn't the usual boring fare - its rather fun

I’ll admit that I am in a big drama slump. Part of me doesn’t want to sit through the angst and the other part of me can’t stand weak fluff. Good news, Again My Life is neither. It is intelligent, humorous and full of some serious action….I do mean serious.

The Characters:
This is my first show with Lee Joon Gi in it. Can I tell you how awesome he was? Why didn’t any of you tell me about him before? He played the fearless prosecutor Kim Hee Woo. At first, I thought he was a dope. It took fifteen minutes into episode 1 to realize that everyone around him was pretty crooked. Before the half-hour point, the viewer can tell that poor Kim Hee Woo is hopelessly deluded that he would defeat the uber bad guy Cho Tae Seob.

This is not a spoiler, but Cho Tae Seob (nicely played by Lee Kyung Young), the evil but self-righteous assemblyman, has the reckless Hee Woo killed before the end of episode 1 (this point is in the plot summary). Our dead leading man meets a mysterious grim reaper who gives him another chance, asking the dead man to defeat Cho Tae Seob this time.

There are no other leads. I know it says there are in the recap but really this show is about these two men and the cast of characters they surround themselves with. Most of the women, who are awesome and strong, are on Kim Hee Woo’s side (as would I). All the politicians and government officials appear to be on the bad side with Cho Tae Seob.

What makes it more interesting is the two swap minions throughout the episodes. I won’t give a spoiler but there are a few on each side that at times make your head spin because you can’t figure out if they are bad or good. So cool….I mean how entertaining is that! Each week is a surprise who is helping the prosecutor and who is helping the politician.

My favorite of large and fascinating group of folks are Lee Min Soo played by Jung Sang Hoon……a “friend?” of Kim Hee Woo. He has almost all the best lines in the show. My next favorite character is a cameo by Bae Jong Ok who does a 5 minute scene as Chairwoman Chun Ho Ryung. She was bad-a** in Graceful Family and again in the last 5 minutes of this Again My Life.

The Music:
The music for this was FANTASTIC. I will be downloading some of these songs. They never got old……like ever……throughout the entire 16 episodes. Some of my favorites: Bring it on by Sonnet, Til the End by Yoo Sung Eun, and What the gang? By Yoon Do Hyun.

Re-watchability:
This one is hard because I am intrigued by another drama that just came out. I want to rewatch it, especially since they left it as if there would be another 16 episodes but won’t be doing it right away. I loved the show but not enough to immediately watch all over again.
If you like lawyer stuff and political stuff, not a lot of romance, and just enough fantasy to get by, I think Again My Life is for you…..I certainly enjoyed it.
