That was bad.

I think everyone here was in the same boat, wondering why on earth we were watching this, and yet we did. For me, it was about the discussion section, which was far more entertaining than the series. This wasn't the worst BL I've ever seen, but it was the most boring and pointless.

I'll start with negatives and end on positives, if I can think of any.

- There was no plot. None. Nothing happened the entire season. Well, one thing happened, but I'm putting it under positives.
- Even given there was no plot, the writing was truly terrible. Nothing really made sense. Like Kit and Mark practicing to be apart for almost the entire season. If there was a reason why anyone was watching this, I imagine it was MarKit, and we got almost none of them. There's an episode where a third of the runtime is taken up by a discussion about putting on a play. Not an actual play, but discussing the details of a production, like how the props would be done, and who would play which characters. Much of the rest of the episode was people texting each other. Riveting.
- The main character, Wayu, is the most useless person imaginable. He doesn't do anything, can't do anything, and he has no agency. He's everything wrong with the seme-uke dynamic.
- The romances were so tame that most viewers have likely had racier relationships in primary school. They are nauseatingly saccharine and totally passionless. The only moment of heat the entire season was when Pok attacked Tong in the shower.
- Sandee was criminally underused. Bank was easily the best actor in this, and by the end of the series even he'd given up.
- Big, who plays Pha, never once took off his shirt, and that bod needs to be shared. You'd think laying in a hospital bed for an entire season that someone would give him a sponge bath at some point. Speaking of which, why would you bother to have a character that does absolutely nothing but lie in a hospital bed for an entire season? Although I'm not complaining because his death, funeral, and tombstone are 95% of what's good about this series.

Positives:

- Bank as Sandee. The way he can pack malice into a subtle look, or mischief, loneliness, or all of the above made for a character that much of the audience was cheering on, and he was the villain out to destroy everyone. Sadly, he failed.

- There were things in here that were so bad that they were good. Kit and Wayu go to see Pha at the hospital. and as they arrive, his crying mother is exiting the room, and she says "he's gone! (i.e. dead)". So the boys go in and have a conversation with Pha, who has either resurrected, or he had been asleep and his mother just assumed he was dead and didn't bother to check. It's a good thing they're Christians and didn't have him cremated prematurely.

When he did kick the bucket, his funeral involved plopping onto a lawn a tiny casket that might possibly fit a small child, which suggests they had Pha dismembered and stuffed into it. I guess Pha's mother was on a budget and decided to forego gravediggers. She also didn't attend the funeral. That along with her apparent indifference to whether or not he was dead at any given moment created the impression she didn't much care for him.

In a later episode, it appears that wild animals dragged off the coffin as they are wont to do (which is why you need grave diggers), and in its place was the most hysterically funny tombstone you will ever see. That sounds exaggerated, I know. But it was. I couldn't tell if it was a novelty cake or made of styrofoam, except whatever production assistant made it accidentally ran over it with his car and tried to tape it together or something.

Story: 1 - There isn't one.
Acting: 5 - I hate to criticize actors, but none of them except Bank (Sandee) put in a good performance. I think it was probably terrible directing, because I've seen some of these guys do good work elsewhere. But here the directions seems to have been "keep your face and voice as blank as possible, pause for ten seconds between every phrase you speak, and always move unnecessarily slowly."
Music: 1 - you will want to smash things listening to that same two bars of music over and over for 12 episodes.
Rewatch Value: 1 - forget the gun to the head - you'd have to threaten to nuke a country to get me to watch this again. Except the funeral scene. That I could watch again.
Overall: 3. The suggested was 2, but a score that low would have to be for something aggressively awful, instead of passively awful like this series.

WHY did I watch this?

Season 2 of a series, regardless of its genre, should be reserved for a series that was highly successful and popular in its first season because of a memorable plot/storyline, solid acting, or good writing and directing, that left everyone wanting more.
Sadly, most of the series that have gotten a second season lately, especially Thai BLs, have been utterly disappointing (see for example "Love by Chance 2", "Tharn-Type season 2", "Love Area season 2", among others) as they couldn't overcome a myriad of flaws and some questionable acting and directing that left us viewers regretting our decision to watch.
Gen Y season 2 is NO exception despite what one reviewer (who has only watched 4 episodes) said about this being a wonderful show. It is NOT... Gen Y2 became 12 episodes of dull acting, bad directing, many storyline plots that were even more boring to watch and useless situations that were dealt with in usual BL fashion of not being dealt with at all. Here's why.

The storyline/plot:
This story seems to follow the concept of the original "2Moons" with Wayu (instead of Wayo), Kit and Pha remaining constants from that show and with virtually identical characters. The idea of having Wayu and Thanu as the main couple in season 2 was created by the plot of Pha leaving Wayu alone in season 1 and telling Thanu to take care of Wayu. It took all of season 1 and then nearly a third of season 2 to finally know that Pha is sick (I believe he had a sort of brain tumor judging by what Kit is reading while doing research on the disease) and is dying, so he leaves Wayu because he doesn't want him to see him like that. Really?! The love of your life and you just leave one day, ask another guy to "take care" of Wayu for you, and vanish into thin air without an explanation? So this was sinkhole #1 in the plot.

Then Kit and Mark have their own issues... the cat and mouse game Kit plays in season 1 by rejecting Mark's advances and flirting until he finally breaks his walls and accepts that he likes Mark, shift into Mark and Kit having a dull relationship (in my opinion) with Mark acting cute all the time because of how much he loves Kit and the other trying to restrain himself and control Mark's personality at the same time. And then, they drift apart when Kit applies for a scholarship abroad (one of the usual Thai BL clichés) and decides is better to take some time apart from seeing Mark to make sure both get used to living apart from each other. Really?! If I knew I was leaving to study abroad, I would have spent every single second I could possibly spend with my loved one before I had to leave, not the opposite... Kit is basically training Mark (and himself) to be alone in case he leaves but both spend countless episodes crying and sighing because they miss each other. So this was sinkhole #2.

Pha reappears early in this season but is to reveal he is dying. This takes Kit on a quest to save him, trying to apply for an experimental study in the US, neglecting Mark and almost everything else to save Pha. Thanu feels sad about his friend and also a bit guilty by "keeping" Wayu. And Wayu has no clue of what is happening at first, until Sandee (more on him later) reveals the truth, making Wayu feel guilty about being mad at Pha for what he thought was just Pha breaking up with him and then compensating by staying with Pha all the time at the hospital, feeling a bit angry because nobody told him about Pha's health, and then guilty again for having feelings for Thanu while Pha is dying. We had to watch nearly entire episodes of these scenarios I mentioned above and they became quite boring after a while as nothing was developing with the other couples and Wayu-Thanu-Pha kept this love triangle from dying out. Finally, Pha does end up dying (in a poorly edited scene with Pha's mother saying "he is gone", but then Wayu, Kit and Thanu going in the room to find he is actually alive, before he finally dies) which released us from watching Wayu suffer because he loves Thanu but wants to take care of Pha. So this was sinkhole #3.

Sandee is the bad guy (I guess) of this season as he tries to "fix" the couples to what he thinks is best. Thanu with Phai and then also messing with the Tong-Pok couple because Tong switched his grade with Pok's so he could be accepted in the university. Ok, I get you're angry at Tong because your grade was switched... but when Sandee confesses to Phai about what he did and then in episode 12 when he talks to Pok, he reveals the switch didn't affect either of them as the grades were identical. Really?! You went through all the mess of threatening and blackmailing Tong, being outcasted by your group of friends, having Pok beat you up a little, and for what? In the end the switch didn't make a difference! And then trying to put Thanu and Phai together serves no purpose in the series as Phai already made it clear he will not interfere in the Thanu-Wayu relationship, so what... Sandee likes Phai? Maybe... Sandee just wants to play matchmaker due to his distorted idea of what love should be (all the fate-destiny crap he and Phai talked about since season 1) Maybe... but we never know for sure. So this was sinkhole #4.

Pok and Tong have an almost toxic relationship with Tong refusing to kiss as he is "saving that for his real love"... great... but his conservative nearly puritan perspective goes to hell when both are being fuckbuddies and doing nearly everything (including the shower scene before they break up) but with Tong still refusing to kiss. They lack communication, they let Sandee influence them quite easily, they never listen to the rest of their friends and then all is solved in episodes 11 and 12 when they each find out the truth (from someone else), Sandee apologizes, and all is well in the world of Pok and Tong. So this was sinkhole #5.

Then we have the secondary characters who have nothing to do. Jack and Ko could have been the best side couple of this season as the actors worked together as a couple in "My Mate Match" but they barely get screen time with all the characters in this series. At least they have a decent and cute ending... We also have the mystery that Padbok was in this show. He was constantly fighting with Thanu in season 1 for what he thought was his friend's betrayal... but then he disappears in season 2 with the excuse of him taking care of his sick father. He briefly appears in the waste of episode when the whole cast dresses up for the mini-plays but leaves after literally 10 seconds when he sees that Thanu will be involved in the scene as well. Then in episode 12 he listens to Thanu and Wayu, then Jack and Jew confirm the story and what could have been solved in about 2 minutes of the show, ended up being solved until the last 10 minutes of the season. Not sure if Junior (the actor who played Padbok) was busy with the new BL he will lead (something called "Boxer in Heart" where he will play the main couple along with Tiger from "My Engineer" and "Top Secret Together") but his absence in this season was made even more evident by the choppy scenes he had to film to solve his problems with Thanu. The rest of the characters either play matchmakers or provide some sort of comedic relief but they barely add anything to the story. Phai more or less gives some good advice to Kit in a few episodes but nothing that good. So this was sinkhole #6.

The acting:
Sadly, most of the actors, while attractive, have fallen in the same sort of roles. Bas (playing Wayu) is stuck with the suffering damsel in distress character that needs a big strong man like Pha or Thanu to help him and all his characters have that similar feeling. Kimmon (playing Mark) and Copter (playing Kit) have fallen in the playful/flirty character (Mark) and the serious, uptight, centered character (Kit). Bank (playing Sandee) and Pon (playing Phai) were nothing like their characters from "The Moment" and "The Moment Since" where they had some soul and personality, here both were quite dull. Big (playing Pha) had mostly bed-ridden scenes in the hospital and maybe he was also focusing on his support role in "Something in My Room" (where he doesn't appear much either and his character is quite weird) but his scenes playing a sick man were forgettable. The other Bank (playing Pok) and Bonus (playing Tong) could have used some acting directions as they had some of the most intense scenes, whether having sex or arguing, in the series, but they didn't convince me much. The rest were just there.

In the end, Gen Y 2 ended up being another disappointment in what is becoming a long list of disappointments now, as companies are just producing BLs because they see them as profitable or trendy but don't bother too much in terms of quality. So, yeah, avoid this season if you can.

I must be so bored to even be completing this

Don't know how I survived the whole season. And to think previous season was still decent enough. Well, Season 1 was not that good, but not so bad either. Season 2 really ruined it for me. The acting, chemistry, plot, cinematography. I wish I had something good to comment on, but I'm gonna keep it very honest here. There's practically no chemistry between one of the main leads. I find some scenes (if not most of them) very cringy. The stage plays that they did, the way Thanu and Wayu stared into each other's eyes for way too long, the way Mark and Kit storyline didn't even make sense. And finally, I don't buy Pok-Tong plot at all. It's funny too how they introduced the "fate" thingy between Thanu and Phai just to drop it. Initially, I was opting for Thanu-Wayu but in the end, I kinda regret it. Sandee's sudden character development is not really plausible, either.

WHO wrote THIS?????

No, really, WHO wrote THIS bullsxxxxt????
This was not only bad, this was nearly as bad as the "what the duck" series - and man, that one was a catastrophe!
Let´s start with the positive things of GenY2: it provided an income for the people who worked on set.
Now, as we covered that, let´s come to the rest:
- unnatural long stares
- interrupted kisses. After leaning in to kiss for about 15 minutes and staring and staring and staring and leaning and leaning and leaning - somebody opens the door and puuuuuf thats it.
- episode after episode filled with NOTHING. Absolutely nothing!
- 15 minutes for the not kissing scene, 15 minutes pointless "conversations", rest of the episode: Wayu stares into nothingness like a zombie.
- Thanu has the same expression throughout the show. Stone wall. Stone wall while leaning in to kiss, stone wall while staring, stone wall while watching Wayu stare into nothingness.
- Mark and Kit (Kid?): yeah well, puh, I fast forwarded them, that plot was just toooooo stupid.
Please have mercy and DO NOT give us GenY3!!!!

Still My Feel-Good Series

Wow, what a series. Kind of like I said with the first season, this would've been top tier back in 2016-2017. The series everyone was talking about, everyone was analyzing, critiquing, fangirling over. But we've moved on from that, we've BEEN moved on from that. Now we have complex character arcs, well-written on-screen romances, a great representation of a true gay love story, and creative new ways to tell these loves stories of men-loving men. But this is just down-the-drain bad. This is my feel-good series, and I can't even try and dig it out of the hole it kept digging itself in. Gen Y 2 is a laughable catastrophe of season one. So much happens, and yet nothing does. we get forced character redemptions. lacking romances, bullshit conflicts, and embarrassing forbidden kisses.

Let's Dive In.

Gen Y 2 is the sequel to the first Gen Y, which wasn't anything masterful -- oh nothing of the sort ---- but it was at least, entertaining. With this season, we get pretty much nothing. Again, we get this dream-like filter over all the actors that make them look so fake, and it's already something that hurts my conscience. On top of that, this season just felt off. Not something I could quite put my tongue on, but it was pretty telling.

Let's just roll into the real problem. Every single couple. Mark and kit get into a bullshitty rule about being apart, which causes them to not even have any scenes together for half the series. It was such a sad conflict cause Mark and Kit are what really make this series, so when they couldn't even be together half of it, you could feel like things were falling apart. But when they were together, I loved them. Yes, some kisses were *gag noises* but damn, the character development of Kit was surprising. I loved how he had trouble explaining how much he loved Mark, and by the end, he has no trouble saying it, showing it, literally marinating in it. I appreciate Copter and Kimmon. If we do see more of them, they're going to have to be in something that really showcases their acting abilities. I'm thinking something as deep as Manner of Death. No more stoic Copter and bubbly Kimmon. Give me something raw, conflicting, dramatic. That's what I want.

Onto Thanu and Wayu. Closer to the end, I did really enjoy them (I mean the literal last few episodes). Before then, it felt to come-and-chase-me, and it was tiresome. on top of that, Dun is the flattest actor I've ever seen. I was embarrassed to watch him at times. He showed no emotions, cracked a smile every now and then, and took off his shirt. That's it. Bas carried for half their romance, the already terribly-written one at that. Pha's entire story-arc was good until his death. It was intriguing to see the revelations of the characters learning he was sick, especially Wayu. But it was like a sandcastle getting hit by a wave. Somewhere in the middle everything comes tumbling down, and you're too over it to try again. it didn't make it better that their kisses were again *gag noises*. We get to see a somewhat credible intimacy scene, so you know what, I'm not that mad.

I was already not really invested in Pok and Tong, but their relationship this season was seriously done dirty. They break up, and really nothing happens after that, and to get them back together, Sandee gives some weak-ass reassurance, and then it's all good. All that and all Sandee had to do was open his mouth? It destroys the work they built to make their conflict seem important. It now looks stupid and frivolous. I wasn't a fan of Jack and Koh either, and their constant bickering was causing a headache. Everyone going around them and teasing them was tiresome too. Who are Jack and Koh? Like as people and not a squabbling couple? They tease at Phai and Sandee and then give us nothing. after two (or was it three..?) years they're still not together. Whatever. Overall, all couples were left anti-climatic and poorly written. It was like the writers had an idea at the beginning, but by the end, they forgot and just went with whatever they could.

Some nit-picky things. The bruises and cuts were so bad, just so so bad. I can usually look past it, but it looked like smeared ketchup instead of a bruise. Please, god, I know they could've done better. And while we're on the topic, the empty coffee cups aggravated me to the fullest. Adding water just to balance it out would be fine, but seeing Dun just swing the supposed-to-be-full-of-coffee cup around hurt, genuinely.

Ratings:

Story: 6.5 - Far from anything at least a bit good. I liked how evil Sandee was, but they just force a redemption arc on him and then it goes back to square one. Other storylines were boring, the conflict was seemingly embarrassing, and the romance is eh. I'll give 6 stars for the half-ass Markit we got, and a .5 cause Wayu is adorable.

Acting: 8 - I'm taking off two stars for Dun specifically. Not that the others were perfect, but Dun was just so bad that you don't care to pay attention to the others. God, it was so bad. Copter pulls through again, with Mark not too far behind. Supporting roles weren't that good either, but not distractingly bad.

Music: 6 - decent, I actually quite like it. Super catchy and fun.

Rewatch Value: 1 - no change I'm rewatching. That's the end of that.

Honestly, there's so much else to say about this series, but just know that it's not good. However, with all of this being said, this show is still my feel-good series. I waited every Tuesday just to join in on the fun, and laugh at how stupid everything was (and felt). This is cheesy, corny, not-good, laughable, but I can't help but want to watch it, want to tune into its silliness, and laugh at it. I recommend it only because it is really lighthearted (except the death, but then not really even that) and cute. A good first BL watch for sure. Star Hunter looks like they might have a decent series in the making right now. I really hope it pulls through, cause the shitshows Star Hunter has been giving is a shame, especially with the amount of talent they have in their company.

I don't know what to even say

Okay. I watched Gen Y Season 1, where I rated it a 7 ( it originally is supposed to be a 6.5, but I was feeling generous as I wanted a season 2). And while the first season was a hot mess, it hade me entertained. I don't know what the heck this season was.

Story- 3/10

I'm not going to break it down by characters like how I did in my previous review of season one, cause it doesn't make sense hwre to do it. What I am going to say is this- I honestly believe that this story could have been told with half of the episodes instead of the twelve. Like, those episodes really did not make sense or add to the story.

I got super annoyed with the whole Mark Kit situation. Thanu and Wayu also annoyed me as well. I would like to add that when something happened to a secondary couple that was supposed to impact on one of the main couples, I felt nothing for thier grief. And then this whole frickin build up with Thanu and Padbok and why hey were no longer friends to be just like a footnote in season 2- that don't sit right with me.

The ONLY saving grace for me was Thong and Pok as well as Jack and Koh. Unfortunately, we were oly blessed with very few scenes of them, which is unfortunate. So, just for these four characters, I'm gonna be generous and give them a 3.

Acting/ Cast-5/10

The storyline was crap, so I felt that thier acting wasn't brought out that well. I mean, I was happy for part of Mork and Kit and Thong and Pok as well as Jack and Koh. So, out of being generous agsin, I'll give them a 5.

Music-7/10

Since it's mostly the same music from season one, I'll give it the same score that I did for season one. Gonna give it a 7.

Rewatch Valu-2/10

I really,REALLY don't want to watch this series again. But if I am given the opportunity to watch snippets of some of the characters, I would. So, for that I give a 2.

Overall-4.5/10

Overall, I give this series a 4.5.

Going nowhere and getting there.

Where should I begin with this mess? First off about the score - 3. There are four story lines, so let me take the couples on one at a time.

Wayu and Thanu: - Imagine meeting these two in real life and I'm certain you'd never want to run into either one ever again. The most boring couple in history. Mopey, dull, self-involved and have never heard of the concept of fun. Yawn. Score: 0.

Mark and Kit: - In season one I was calling Mark "Mister Personality" because, no matter how nonsensical his story would become, he sold it on his charm alone. Charm, however, could only go so far. There was no story there. None. Zero. Zip. Nada. Basically, it's, "If we were ever to part ways we'd be miserable. Sooo...let's practice being miserable!" Unlike every other couple in history who want to cherish every last second together, this pair decide that misery just may be their "thing". Score: 0.

Jack and Kho. Their story is too stupid to even address. Score: 0.

Pok and Tong: - The only story I stuck around for. At least these two characters had personalities, conflict and resolution. Of course, they had to turn into sappy drips in the final episode, but it could be forgiven because the actors really sold it. Score: 1.

I threw in an extra 0.5 for Sandee because if he had minded his own business there would be no story at all. Here's a side character doing the protagonist's job.

I'll say one thing about this unholy concoction - whoever write this has clearly never met a real human being. Ever! Booooooooo!

Worse than Season 1, even a ham sandwich would have been more interesting

So, I’ve watched (both seasons of) 2Moons as well as Gen Y Season 1 and at this point, it’s confirmed: the franchise has plunged off the cliff and there’s no salvaging this.

The 'conflict' involving Mark and Kit made no sense in this season. In fact, it was the most ridiculous self-inflicted problem ever.

And Wayu and Thanu – they have zero chemistry. Wayu’s character is weak, mopey and awkward, while Thanu is stiff and uncharismatic. Even though they’re supposed to be dating, their relationship is hardly believable.

And if you were wondering what happens with the Pha storyline after he was mysteriously reintroduced at the end of the first season, you would be disappointed to know that… well, nothing very meaningful happens. I don’t wish to spoil what happens with Pha eventually, but just know that it was ridiculous.

Overall, the series really could try harder. On second thought, perhaps they should stop trying.

From an elaborated vitamin jelly commercial to an elaborated seaweed snack commercial

Cast: Same as in s1, so you get the good and the bad. Definitely ton of eye-candy. And I counted the entire 4 women who had more than 1 line to say out loud. Some actors do their job decently, with others you just wanna skip the scenes. This is especially visible with the main couple, played by Dun and Bas. They're supposed to be the most interesting couple and I was yawning at their kisses dialogues. If you add lousy writing to acting that is average at best, this is a clear recipe for a disaster. Bas as Wayu feels like has 3 face expressions: bashful, crying and staring into the distance. Dun as Thana is extremely dull. Supposedly the most mysterious guy on the campus has a personality of a dead fish. Not to mention the enormous lack of chemistry between Dun and Bas.

Music: nothing remarkable. Few annoying saxophone bits and acapella songs in the dramatic moments. Could be better, could be much worse.

Production: The production felt unbalanced. On one hand you have decent university/dorm/seaside resort locations. On the other hand you have a styrofoam grave that people start making memes about. Available on an official YT with bad quality auto-translate English subs. Few times I was so upset about the subs, I wanted to go to dailymotion or other streaming platform for the fan-subs which I'm sure would be much much better.

Plot: Season 1 was interesting, excluding the whole Pa mystery. I especially liked the serendipity and fate connecting Thanu and Phai. In season 2, the writers decided to clear out the throuple (or quadrouple, if you add Pa to this hot mess) rather quickly and Phai became some sort of holy figure trying to sort out his friends' messy lives. This drama including Wayu, Thana and Pa, where Wayu should try to choose between his current lover and critically ill ex-boyfriend could be interesting, but it lacked emotions and proper handling. Add bad acting from Bas and Dun, and you wanna skip most of this plot.

I hoped that Kimmon and Copter would hold the show for me, but no. The lousiest writing by making some ridiculous fake "long distance relationship" happened. Kimmon works well as an annoying but adorable puppy and Copter's always great as tsundere. But them barely sharing screentime for half of the show made me consider actually dropping this season before finishing. In the end I was extremely disappointed by this ordeal.

The only couples that somehow held it together were Pok and Tong, and Jack and Koh. Jack and Koh were more of a comic relief here and there, yet they brought more fun than the main couples. Pok and Tong's rather toxic relationship got some straighetening out before they found a happy ending together. I'm looking forward to seeing more of Bank and Bonus on screen in other shows. They have nice chemistry and it was exciting seeing them on screen, together or in separate scenes.

The show had plenty of pointless scenes, they'd be able to wrap it up in 6-8 eps, that would maybe hold more value and be better paced. And I'm not talking about the product placement scenes, that were not too annoying.

Summary: My friends warned me not to watch it because it was so bad, and they were probably right. It was a mindless cringiest binge over the weekend that I'll probably forget within two weeks and never get back to it again.

Not good - Not horrible

I enjoyed season one for the most part, so I was looking forward to season 2. Sadly, this did not live up to my expectations. I think Wayu's storyline could've been resolved, even exacty the same way, a bit more quickly and it would've given time to focus on the side couples more which would've helped the entire season move more smoothly, feel less slow and give better content.

We deserved more time with Mark and Kit.
We deserved more time with Pok and Tong.
We deserved more time with Jack and Koh.
We deserved to find out if Sandee found a partner. (yes, I have someone very specific in mind, but I'm not giving spoilers)

If there was more content all around then the season wouldn't have felt so stagnant and I think most viewers would've been happier. There's my two cents. ??

Nicely Done

Wow Finally it has come to an end with a nice little bow!!

This drama was not disappointing to say the least, accept for the fact that I had too watch this ongoing and waiting every week for the next episode was torturous.

This drama was a continuous from the first one, and I was super glad to see that the cast were the same, and it picked where they left it, which always a good thing in my books.

The Plot/Drama itself was kind of slow, and it did look like there was ending or beginning happening, for me the only thing that kept intrigued was the cast, there were all amazing (esp Mark & Kit) which probably the main reason I watched this drama.

I maybe over Exaggerating my ratings based solely on the cast and not really the story itself.

There were some scenes that just quiet fit this whole drama, I will start off with markit cause that whole supposedly separation, incase he went to study abroad in real was just a waste, I think many new couples go through something like, although it was a good way to test each other, I just felt it was pointless. Than&Wayo kiss scenes were super boring to say the least, I feel like he took long to lean into kiss him or the disturbances were so unrealistic, its liked they were supposed to kiss but they actually did not want too, that build up was wasted screen time in my opinion, Then Pok&Tong well I get were each of them were coming from, and they suite each other, It would be nice to see them in there own drama developing there relationship further (whose with me?) And lastly Sandee&Phai well I am glad he learn his ways and again I think we need to some develop with him and Phai cuz clearly he started like Phai after he came right.

So in essence this drama is 50/50.

Overall : Just watch it and enjoy it yourself, or for the hot characters that were all matched and got along with each other, despite the plots and personal conflicts, twists and turns, long close ups, sweet love. Just watch.

The minor characters get ruined the least

If Gen Y 1 and 2 were an earthworm, Season 1 would be when it burrows holes so deep and twisted (e.g. Pha's unexplained break-up with Wayu and Sandees seemingly diabolical behavior) that it becomes trapped in its self-created labyrinth. And Season 2 would be the same earthworm struggling to wriggle out of its own mess. It is a fascinating watch after a fashion, but let it not be mistaken for something that is actually worth watching. (I think this is why so many people are watching and complaining all the way to the finale.)

Essentially Gen Y 2 is this: two men in love with each other but at least one decides not to seeing the other for one reason or another. Multiply that by a few times for different couples, most of the episodes.

I have to confess I did enjoy some parts like the sweetness between Mark and Kit (before things get messy and excessively sappy). What I liked most was the squabbling potential couple, Jack and Koh, who each vehemently denies any possible romance between them while fighting to have their ship named with his own name first.

Season 2 also attempts to resolve most of the problems created in Season 1, even if the resolutions don't altogether make sense. I guess this is one of the few good things about Season 2, apart from how a Season 3 seems highly unlikely. I can't help feeling that Season 2 could have been decent if Season 1 hadn't been such a mess. Too much effort spent needs to be spent to deal with the problems of Season 1, which had: (i) Pha's unexplained break-up with Wayu , (ii) Pha being uncontactable, (iii) Sandee's behavior, (iv) Thanu's random visions that results in a love triangle with him, Phai and Wayu (rectangle if you count Pha), etc.

In the end, the way the mess is slowly cleared seems forced, and the series ends up having to delve into heavy issues like dying and death that appear very much out of place. In the world of Gen Y, having little happen is perhaps a good thing. This is perhaps why the early Mark/Kit and JAck/Koh scenes are enjoyable. But even such scenes become draggy after Episode 10.

Season 2 also suffers from having a tad too many flashbacks: At first, the flashbacks can be forgiven for being reminders of what happened in Season 1, but soon enough, we get flashbacks of the earlier episodes in Season 2 as well. The flashbacks tend to be brief but either pointless or longer than they need to be.

There are also scenes of bare skin or sex that seem rather laughable or seem added in with the hopes of pleasing the audience. A case in point: in one scene, Pok finds out the truth about something and is angry with Tong. He goes home and confronts Tong, who is having a shower. Yet, despite his moment of anger, Pok storms into the bathroom and starts making out with Tong before confronting him about the matter he is angry about.

Since viewers are probably vexed and are likely just watching to see how the mess is cleared (even in unsatisfactory ways), once the mess is largely cleared, the series becomes utterly insipid. If there is anything that I will remember about Gen Y 2, it would be the stuff that are largely left undeveloped like the Jack/Koh romance and Sandee's apparent crush on Phai, The actor for Sandee handles the abrupt about-turns in the character fairly well and his quiet love for Phai is nicely shown.
