You Are My City and Fortress (2021)

Understandable hype

Story/Plot: I like the pace of the drama. Just the right amount of slow-mo to needed scenes and fast paced story. Scenes that took 2-3 episodes to be done were needed to create foundation to the relationship which is understandable for me. Their romantic slow-motion scenes are just perfect. Same goes with other characters. I didn’t fast forward that much in this drama. The police and medical scenes were done right that it didn’t need too much exposure for me to get bored. I’m a nurse so that might as well helped me from being interested in it. First few episodes were just okay but it got better after episodes 6 or so.

Acting: I think they all did great in it, even the side characters. Although I had too much expectation on Sandra Ma’s acting because I heard she got an award or nominated from this. The only thing that I didn’t like about her in this drama was the first episode(robbery scene), it didn’t showcase her acting skills and was kind of disappointed because I wasn’t impressed with her on that scene, fortunately, her other scenes were fantastic. I also appreciate Bai Jing ting’s facial expressions, he’s now one of my favorite actors in China. Plus, his body looks really amazing here. 😉 but what impressed me the most was Dr. Shao’s character, if i were to pick the best actor in this drama, it would be Wang Yang. It’s very believable that he’s a surgeon. His chemistry with Ke Yao was well-done as well. They could flirt with just their words and eyes and it made an outstanding impression from me. Pei Yao or Xia xia did good as well. She looks so natural and charming in this. Especially her chemistry with Mi Ka. Their friendship was very convincing. If there’s one thing she needs to improve on with her acting skills, it would be about getting mad for real. I only found her annoying with Lu Feng but it didn’t take long.

Music: I can only think of one song that I like, it’s a woman’s voice.

Rewatch Value: Honestly, I don’t rewatch movies or dramas that’s why I usually don’t give high stars in this category. It’s not the dramas fault, just a personal issue.

Issues: Although I like this drama very much, there were some things that they forgot about or probably characters that they don’t think deserve closure like Wen Bo’s mother and Mika’s roommate/other friend.

Overall: I now understand the hype of this drama. You can learn a lot from it. How to respond to some situations that you may find yourself in or things that you may handle maturely and gracefully. Sandra Ma’s natural beauty is also what impressed me about this drama. I just can’t help but admire her face and smile and tone of voice and she jus reeks of playful grace or gentle and charming aura. She’s like an angel.

Fabulous drama!

The plot is all about the love between a special team,SWAT officer and a doctor.
Mi Ka,played by Sandra Ma,is an easy going,hard working,sincere,loving,and a dedicated doctor.
She falls in love with Xing Kelei,played by Bai Jingting,who is a SWAT officer.
On the professional front,their jobs coincide with each other many times.
On the personal front,they are a very cool couple.
I liked how the love between them developed gradually and how they stood by each other even in life and death situations.
The story of Xing Kelei 's sister and Mi Ka's senior at the hospital is also well written.I liked how they never forgot about each other even after years of breakup.Their reconcilement was very good to watch.
Shu wenbo and Qing Xia,who are poles apart in nature were a refreshing couple to watch.
The love track of all the 3 couples was sure entertaining enough,combined with the training, competitions,deadly cases, emergency situations and life risking problems that the SWAT team encounters each day.
The tensions doctors face in treating different cases was sure well written.How they analyse the current condition of the patients,surgeries,treatments and above all their anxieties are perfectly portrayed.
All the actors were good on bringing life to their roles and also the plot.
I highly recommend this beautiful series.Watch it and you will not be disappointed.

2 things stopped it from being a 10/10

In many ways, this was an excellent c-drama. The OTP's romance was super cute and wholesome. They are a true power couple with both doing important and demanding jobs. No wall flower here, thank you. A lot of the story telling was great, awesome meet-cute. How can you go wrong when one half of the story was based in a hospital and the other half was about policing! However, it did tripped over its own feet on two things.
1) The 2OTP was too frustrating to watch. Their relationship was in limbo and dragged on for too long. On, off, mixed messages, reset, noble idiocy, friend zoning, the works. This went on for 30 episodes! Yes, when they did get together it was all rainbows and unicorns and there were some very funny and cute moments but it really went round the garden path a few times.
2) The show was too long. 40 episodes were not long by c-drama standard and It would have been fine if there was enough substance to do 40 episodes but there really wasn't. A few signs pointed to this, the first half of the show was action packed and very well paced. A bit after the disaster relief operation, things started to slow down. There were still dramatic moments but these were islands. The 2OTP issue was particularly noticeable then. When they introduced the girl in the wheelchair subplot, it was pure classic filler trope that came from nowhere and went nowhere. The overseas study trip was another. At least it wasn't too abrupt but it was just a time skip padded out with some video chats and a long sad build-up. They could have shipped her off to a fortnight's training course somewhere and got her onto that bus without changing narrative stride. I think 35 episodes would have been more realistic.
Acting was good all round, I last watched the FL in Oh My General and she did a good job there too. The ML wasn't all stony faced male god and that was good. The male leads all look very smart in uniform.
The OST was nice and easy on the ears. The rewatch value is there but I would hit the fast forward around the 2/3 mark and skip to the good bits.

Masterpiece

I just finished this drama and I am obsessed literally
This drama got me so hooked up and OH MY GOD don’t get me started on those damn good looking men I swear my heart was about to jump out of my chest whenever I see bai jing ting smile or workout omg🥵 and the rest of the actors including doctors and from captain xing’s team. I loved this show didn’t have 2nd ML/FL to spice up our main leads relationship they have been through hell and back so I don’t think they need them lol. In this drama they didn’t focus of the main relationship but also on the other three yes three you heard me relationships. I got a lot of good pumps during watching this show I smiled like crazy between the sweet scenes of mi ka and captain xing who probably have the most healthy nontoxic relationship in all c-drama history I loved how their problems didn’t last for like 2 episodes and those problems had a negative effect on their relationship on the contrary it strengthens it and spoiler’s alert they didn’t have the typical breakup of literally most of the cdramas lol. The ending was just perfect they tied everything perfectly they didn’t leave any relationship in the drama they gave them all happy good ending (doctor shao & xing ke yao)(Ruan Qing & captain shu)( doctor xin Tao and doctor xu yan ) I have to admit that towards the end there were some dragging/cliche scenes but in comparison to all of the rest episodes that kept me on the edge of my seat it doesn’t matter at all and come on we all love some cliche scenes even if we didn’t admit it😏 absolutely one of my favorite cdramas ever

Heart warming and light with a solid casts, unfortunately...

Just finished this series and to be honest, not as good as i expected.. The story is light and warm hearted.. Some parts are joyous, touching and loveable.. the operatiom scene in the hospital is quite real.. The main couple are solid and so the two other couples.. It keeps me watching until half of the series.. But, the story development makes me frustated... It's cliche and predictable.. Too many coincidences and i don't think they should make it until 40 episodes.. The story revolves without a clear purpose and forced.. But it's a good drama series.. Bai Ji Ding and Sandra Ma did a great job.. Wayne Wang also nailed it and also the other supporting casts.. But because the source material is from a novel. I can't complain too much.. Just enjoy it..

A brilliant recommendation.

You are my hero is a military, medical and a romantic drama based on the best-selling novel 你是我的成池营垒（ni shi wo de cheng chi ying lei) by Ming Qing Yu. It is set in Chinese military and a hospital and lots of famous stars like Bai jingting and Ma sichun are starred. The drama is directed by the director Zhang Tong.
Mika, a graduated doctor, went to a jewellery shop in order to buy something for her parents when a robbery happened. Then she met the leader of SWAT, Xing Kelei who helped her. Moreover, Mika wanted to continue her work and became a professional surgeon. She went with her group in military and met again Xing Kelei. As the time passes she started to have some feelings for Xing Kelei and at last she fell in love with him despite his aggressive sister Keyao .
You are my hero is a drama full ot adventurous scenes like the earthquake and romance. The plot is a little bit unexpected with funny nd touching moments. The cast is wonderful and very talented, the directing is superb and the ost songs are both touching and romantic. To conclude, in my opinion the overall value of this drama is really high and fair.
This drama can be easily called the masterpiece of 2021.You are my hero is a well worth seeing. The story is clever and will keep you entertained right to the end. It's definitely a must see!!

Light & Heart Warming

Even if 2021 just started.. we can ve sure that its going to be one of the best for this year.
Its one of those rare dramas with perfect combination of romance, action and personal growth.
Even though there are some similarities in profession and circumstances with kdrama DOTS, everything else is completely different.

Special merits:
1.Brother- sister relationship of Xing Family
2.Character development for Shu Wenbo
3.Second Lead Relationship of Xing Keyao and Dr Shao

Demerits:
1. Story could've been wrapped under 35 episodes.. too much fillers were used
2. Both 2nd lead relationships seemed to be developing very slowly and seemed to be rushed in the end.


ALL IN ALL, GREAT DRAMA AND IT WILL DEFINITELY BE ON MY REWATCH LIST!!

It's a lot.... but yes, we got through it :)

I think this had an interesting direction. I was wondering how they were going to incorporate medical and crime and romance all together, but I'd just label this mostly a romance drama. Anyhow, my thoughts are pretty simple here:

1. Acting is pretty good and I like the lead couple and 3rd lead couple. There's a lot of communication and chemistry in these relationships, as well as cuteness. Obstacles have NOTHING on Xing Kelei and Mi Ka. I really appreciate the realism in the portrayal of first love (shy, a little bashful).

2. Pacing and story are a little muddled though. There are super long arcs, the second lead couple just made me skip all their scenes and the story doesn't really effectively navigate crime and medical arcs. They don't feel necessary, to be honest, and that bothers me a little. Just a tad?

I think if you do something in a drama, do it well. If not, don't do it at all. I do also think the romance did get in the way of realism for depicting special forces and hospital activity. I think the drama definitely serves in bringing your attention to first responders, but it's pretty damn romanticized.

3. I did watch all of it. It's pretty binge-worthy, and I am a binger. I did keep on pressing the forward five seconds button though :/

I could honestly see myself rewatching this.

They are heroes

This was so cute, fun and serious at the same time.
This is the longest drama I watched and finished so I'm proud because I mostly can't watch long dramas, I get distracted or bored towards the end. Sometimes it seems like a big commitment so I don't even start them.

The beginning episodes were slow, the ones where they train, I was waiting for something interesting to happen. Then the middle was fun and I got bored around ep 32 where two evil sisters appear wanting to destroy our main characters happiness. I thought instead of that they should have put another case where they save lives.
The ending is happy and cute, a little rushed with a case that lasts one episode. I think it's there to show their growth and make things dramatic but they already went through so much, they deserve a little bit of happiness and peace.

Thing's I liked
- The characters, I liked everyone except two sisters that show up towards the end.
- The relationships between the characters, the friendship, it was so cute and heartwarming.
- Mi Ka and Ke Lei being a healthy couple that talks about their problem's.
- Shu Wen Bo and Qing Xia being a chaotic couple.
- Shao and Ke Yao slowly getting together.
- Ke Yao is cool as a sister and as a friend.
- The cases where they save lives, they were well done.
- Showing the importance of police and doctors.
- The comedy, I laughed so much watching this.

Overall, it's an okay story with great characters.

The chemistry is so natural - just gotta sit through!

The FL and ML's chemistry is undeniably strong. During their scenes, I feel like I'm just watching something in real life because of how natural they are with each other. Of course at the beginning of the series and beginning of their relationship they are awkward with each other especially being each other's first love, which I think is really nice because it really depicts how it is usually when you first start liking someone and being their other half. Throughout their relationship, they got comfortable with each other and their bickering was my favourite. Seriously. It felt so real and natural. They really are like a quarrelsome lovers, but yet so cute. Because of this, I actually really started shipping them two and would be nice if they really dated in real life. The relationship didn't these stupid misunderstandings and I love how at one point they weren't happy with something and have improved themselves and shared what they are feeling. I feel like because of this, they didn't have those annoying misunderstandings. The part with the childhood friend's arrival, no matter how pissed I am at those sisters, I watched through because of how good and strong Mi Ka's character is, like I'm sure it annoyed her, but I love her professional she was and how she handled things and not letting what they said get to her. Just like Mi Ka, I like how Ke Lei had handled in too (most of the time). Like he was aware that it could upset Mi Ka and he still was careful. Honestly liked the ending, but I wish I got to see their wedding, calling each other husband and wife and having kids. I honestly would have loved loved it. Also love how there was no unnecessary love triangles.

The second FL and ML had the loooooooongest chasing. Xiao Xia's personality is really to be commended. Like wow how she chased Wenbo but just like everyone else, she got tired too. But that's when Wenbo also got his shit together. I really just wanna mention how much of a blockhead he is. It's cute at times but oh my days, he would need some serious teaching haha but in the end, he managed to pull his shit together.

I would like to write a separate paragraph for Xing Ke Yao. At the start when she first came out, I had this feeling that she would be such a bitchy sister and would cause unnecessary drama to the FL and ML. But how she dealt a lot of situations, especially when those two sisters came into the picture, I was at the top of the world. She is so badass honestly! Her strong personality and how she just quickly handled those two, I was waiting for it to come. I love whenever Ke Lei turns to his sister and they would discuss his situations, I love whenever she just listens to him like an amazing sister she is.

About the story, of course I've seen DOTS, but I was particularly drawn into this because I feel like it would bring me something strong in terms of their professions but also lighter when it comes to their drama. I have not seen a particular SWAT drama before and I was really curious about it and I'm glad I watched this. With both their professions having different types of work times, you can see how difficult it is to be together, especially the many times their dates got cancelled because of Ke Lei's missions. Mi Ka's patience, understanding and love for him I feel is what really made her stay no matter how difficult it is. I like that there's a good balance of medical and SWAT missions in this drama. Got to taste best of both worlds. I salute these healthcare professionals and the police force for protecting the populations. Honestly, it's not easy. Just wanted to say though, since it's also a medical drama and I'm sure they consult with a medical professional, I hope they improve on one thing, the rhythms lol. It really cracks me up whenever they have an emergency and they're like "there's heartbeat" and they show the oxygen saturation line s the "heartbeat" instead of the actual heart beat line. It did not only happen once but every time.

As for the OST, I didn't really pay attention to it much especially I skip the start and ending songs. But at one point of the series, they were playing the ending song, I really felt it in my heart. It's honestly one of my faves now. The other songs are good too.

One last thing and a big spoiler, when in the final ep, I had a feeling Ke Lei would propose again will have some sort of stunt to propose, and this may sound so cliche but when he finally said "Will you marry me", I felt my such goosebumps. To top that up, when Mi Ka answered "yes", I felt another set of goosebumps. It's unreal. i am glad to have watched this drama. I also felt like I know a lil bit more about SWAT too. Kudos to the team and actors!

The beginning of the story was good

It would be better if the number of episodes was reduced further.

The beginning of the story was good, I was very interested in how dramatic the FL and ML meeting was depicted. I really liked the shooting in this drama at the beginning and this is also what made me first interested in seeing it.

but unfortunately the storyline became boring in the next 20 episodes, I skipped a lot because there were a lot of things that didn't need to be explained but appeared and that made me ask, what's the point?

the acting was good, I felt the chemistry between the two main characters and also the supporting characters

As for the OST, I remember but didn't really enjoy it

I know this is a slow burn drama, but for a genre like this I think it could be simpler and straight to the point
