I understand why people are upset by this movie!But I don’t agree!
Here’s the thing. They didn’t have any sexual feeling for each other in the second half of the movie. They died together so they could be reincarnated “together” so there would be no age gap and hopeful no gender gap either! Phop is gay that is why he and his wife didn’t have any kids there was no sexual love there only the love of friends. He never saw liu sexually he just saw dew in her body! You could tell by the way he looked at her there was never desire is his eyes only guilt, longing, and happiness! I think it was a beautiful ending! There was never going to happiness for them in this life so they chose the next! Your look at the movie wrong. Liu already knew and proved that rebirth and reincarnation were real and Phop proved that they could find each other even in different bodies, so they had nothing left to lose! Remember they are Thai which most are Buddhist not Christian. Suicide doesn’t have the same consequences in Buddhism. Focus on the LOVE in this movie not societies views on what is right and what is wrong. That’s exactly what broke them apart in the first half of the movie!

LOVE BREAKS BOUNDARIES OF GENDER, AGE AND TIME. THIS MOVIE BREAKS ALL OF THE THREE.
"Before the sky turn bright
Before feeling the warmth of sunlight
Before the flowers bloom
Before having a sweet dream
I've never had anyone in my heart
Till your love came
A nd made me see the brightness
I've never had anyone beside me
`Til your crazy mercy came
And motivated me
To live...
In this mad world."
The story starts August of 1996 when Dew and Phop met for the first time. From then on, the innocent acquaintance will turn into something unexpecting beautiful. But what they have is something unconventional during those times. Having different family backgrounds didn't help either.
From the walkman, to the pagers, what's the trend when it comes to fashion. For those who grew up, or spent their teenage years in the 90's will definitely feel the nostalgia.
Instead of focusing on the stigma in the 90's, let's be glad, celebrate that people learned from it and are more accepting nowadays. Even the stigma is what caused the rift between the two main, I prefer to focus on the love they both shared.
STORY
================
"Dew the movie", a viewer should tell early on that the story is about Dew. His struggles to fit in and find comfort. But that time, it wasn't kind to Dew.
The alternate title, "Dew Let's Go Together", is from the point of view of Phop. His sacrifices is the focus of his story that will continue on the second half of the movie. Remember the sentence "Let's go Together" because it where it all started and where it will end.
The parallelism of the young Phop and the adult one is very obvious, that is when you will start to feel a pinch in your heart, again.
When you can get pass the age gap, that is when you feel and experience tha magic. For love breaks the boundaries of time and gender.
Furthermore, there is belief that water is life and for others, you are reborn in water.
Lastly, don't takes things literally or you'd miss out the magic in this movie. Magic does not equate to logic. Ultimately, it will be your choice if you want to question the appropriateness of things that happend in the film or get lost in the magic this movie has to offer. I prefer the latter.
ACTING
================
OHM as DEW - Make It Right 1&2, He's Coming To Me, Blacklist are the things I've watched where Ohm appeared. You can see a big "maturity" in his acting from Make It Right 1 to Make It Righ 2 to He's Coming to Me. 2019 was Ohm's year as he appeared in two Thai series, both he played a contrasting character and yet he delivered the portrayal quite well. In this movie, I feel like is an extension of his acting from He's Coming To Me. For he showed a myriad of emotions. He will make you feel what his character is feeling as if you are in his place in what you are watching.
NONT as young PHOP - To be honest, I thought Ohm will own him, acting-wise. His acting is not at par with Ohm, HOWEVER, props to him given that this is his first acting in a main role. Don't mistaken Nont's lack of connection to his character. It show that the character himself is detached, uncertain, having an inner conflict. It just there are few scenes that aren't that convincing as Ohm's. Can't wait though for Bad Genius and see how he will do there!
PAHN and LEW - it is not really her acting but how she transition from her old self to the enlightened one. I can't blame her for that but it lacks development for her transition. Her actions and demeanor is as rough as Ohm's and subtle and vulnerable too.
WEIR as adult PHOP - given his repertoire of acting, it is given that he delivered. No brainer in his acting.
SONG
================
For what Dew told in front of the class that "won" the contest, refer in the initial part of this review.
- It is not technically a song that you listen, but more of a translated lyrics of a song to English.
The opening song, what Dew's listening to: ดีเกินไป by Smile Buffalo, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1MANY2BDBaI sets up the fast paced progression of what Dew and Phop is about to go through.
Songs match perfectly the scenes were it played. And the few sound effects highlighted some emotions.
REWATCH VALUE
================
When a myster is solve, it is really hard to rewatch it with the same excitement and anticipation. Some things are better watched once, to keep it special. And this is no exception.

The movie is pure and raw, the emotions are extreme while sustaining sincerity. It was a futile attempt escape story to leave the ultraconservative patriarchal town of Pang Noi. The story was typically death, reincarnation, and suicide in order to reincarnate again. The plot is common, but reflects a lot of reality, disowned gay children, gender correction therapy in the military and the likes. The entire first part was a standalone. It ended with a heavy heart. The second part was merely a conclusion in order to reconcile the failures of the former. The story could have been better if it let Dew and Phop be free from the homophobia, let them escape Pang Noi. a lot of movies try to get stuck and die shackled by the Homophobia, and I want movies that are rebellious and deviant from these which focuses on how the characters make a living out of this context. I do appreciate the acting of the characters, it was really heartfelt and on point, especially Ohm Pawat and Nont Sadanont. It conveyed innocence and bravery in the face of judgement. The dialogue between them was simple yet striking. How the parents acted homophobic was on point, you could definitely feel the pressure in the families.
The cinematography was stunning, and genuine. Especially appreciating the landscapes conveying the lightness or heaviness of mood throughout the story. It blended well with the music of Pchy and other classical Thai music. There were also instrumentals in between conversations and moments that can really set the feeling between the character's conversations.
Rewatch Value, I personally feel close to this movie because of a lot of reasons. Especially the depth of regret and awe it makes me feel. It's so genuine and sincere that it makes me see myself in it. So I rewatch it from time to time to remind myself that I have to soak in the light and glory, that it did not matter what the world thought, what mattered was what Dew and Phop felt for each other. That they would be there even if the world turns its back against them. Ultimately, it was a great movie that I could feel my rejection and the comfort and embrace and home I sought and felt in someone most dearest to me. Everyone seeks that person, someone who makes us feel seen, that even these hardest times, could give greatest gifts. We were defined as who we are, and we will bravely fight the world even against everything.

Storyline has so many red flags
First of all, who ever rate the storyline of this more than 7 over 10 or 3 stars out of 5 IS A SURE FREAK. (I’m referring to those who rate it an almost perfect like how could y’all overlook the pedophilia and grooming in this movie???)Acting is great. All casts deliver their emotions and characters very well.
Cinematography is also good. It’s giving us that nostalgic feeling
Music is also good
However, let’s discuss the storyline.
First half (which is a bl) is outstanding. It makes us pity both the characters as gays during their times are considered a disease. We can literally connect w/ their characters as they are so good w/ delivery of lines and emotions.
Now let’s discuss the last part, the incarnation part, which is really disturbing and problematic. First of all, a teacher and student relationship is a big no no. On top of that, girl is a highschool student, literally a MINOR and Sir, you already have your own family and all of a sudden you’re targeting a high school kid just because he is the incarnation of your ex???
And u guys are actually ok w/ that?? That’s grooming and pedophilia 😭 How could y’all rate it a perfect 10 omg

Okay so first of all, I've seen many comments on people who dislike the film due to the fact that Dew gets reincarnated as a female. In my personal opinion, I saw nothing wrong with that. Here's why: The movie focuses on the deep love and affection between our two main leads Pob, whom I would call the main main character, and Dew/Lew, who are the same person but Lew being the reincarnation. I can see why many take this love story as specifically homosexual love, the first half of the film and the main beginning of the romance happens with two male characters, which gives the viewer an impression that "oH, this must mean they're gay", which is not wrong, since both Pob and Dew confirm that they are. See, the reason why the chosen couple in the beginning of this storyline are homosexual is due to the time it is set in. Here being gay is looked down upon and more or less a taboo topic. Here is why the second half of the film (the present part) does not include the same trope, it's present day and taboos change. Being homosexual, especially in Thailand, is not necessarily a taboo thing anymore, times have changed. This is why the reincarnation of Dew, Lew, is a younger female. It's the new taboo, the age-gap, which has become more looked down upon compared to homosexuality.
This shows that no matter how much society does not accept their love, these two will still be feeling the same things. Whether they're gay or there's a huge age difference.
- sorry if the explanation was messy, I had a hard time formulating my theory, but I hope it somewhat made sense -
Story-wise, I give this a 7 due to the fact that it can be misunderstood easily and there's a few plot holes here and there. It tried to cramp two story arcs in around 2 hours, which rushed it a bit. I would honestly prefer this to be a mini series, where one could come more in depth into the story. The ending made sense to me. It creates a loop, and opens up for further theories. It is not their end, but solely their continuation.
The cast did a great job. Ohm's crying scenes started of a tiny bit weak imo, but after he finally let the tears fall, I could feel the emotions. The chemistry was nice as well.
I really enjoyed the music too, nothing necessarily memorable, but it played a good counterpart with the visuals of the film.
I wouldn't rewatch this film, as I don't think the same spark will be present. You could watch each arc as their own short film for some nice chemistry, but overall I don't find this movie having any rewatch value.
It was a nice film and had great aspects of acting, visuals, and music. The story was decent as well, but not my favorite. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the film.

It is the first review I write but this movie deserves it.First of all, this is a great story that brings to our screens a subject that is still as delicate as homosexuality is, reminding us or showing us how homosexual relationships were before our time and we can see the progress that has been made in society in comparison to that time and the previous ones, but we still have a long way to go.
I want to mention the actors who were each great in their respective performances, especially Ohm and Nott who stole my heart and my tears.
I am a little disgusted that Dew has reincarnated as a woman, but trying to see that the message goes beyond the genre of the characters I could lessen my disgust at this topic, and thinking that perhaps the fact that he had reincarnated as a boy would have caused the greater viewer rejected as it would add homosexuality to the subject of pedophilia and this could have caused a stain on the message of history.
The previous point leads me to the fact that although the story that was transmitted was very beautiful, I want to clarify that I did not like that the relationship between Pohp and Natcha (Reincarnation of Dew) had become somewhat pedophilic. Natcha will reach adulthood and if there they decided to have the end they had or another one they decided, they would have no problem with it.
I reaffirm that I loved the movie that took my heart and was destroyed in a good way because it is a great tragic but beautiful story

A disapointing roller coaster worth to watch, at least the first half
One of the biggest disapointments i had with a movie.The first half is stunning, visually, the 90's vibes, the OST... I am a huge fan of Ohm, for me he is one of the best actors that works on the BL industry, he is seriously skilled. I was in love, the first half.
The turning point from the plot is... stupidly bad. The supernatural, reincarnations, high school, age gap... just no. And trust me, i am not the person who is against making movies with socially unacceptable plots, i watch the weirdest things that are unconfortable to many and i am ok with it (i watched a dude tell how he was in love with a male GOAT for over 20 years and proced to have sex with a guy dress like one, and i laughed till i cried), is a movie and art is there to explore.
The problem is that it doesn't work, at all. And the old actor cannot stand a candle compared to the young ones. From there is a train wreck, and only a few scenes are kinda worth it.
The OST is a keeper. Ohm is a Keeper. If you want to see him in a supernatural kinda plot, a good one, go as fast as the light to He's comming to me.
Alexa, how can i forget the 2 half of this movie?

This movie was so emotionally draining for me. I was a total mess during and still after it was done. The injustice the gays faced for liking who they like, broke my heart. Dew deserved so much better than to die and be reincarnated into a teen girl. Such cruel fate to keep him and Phop apart even in his second life. Ohm and Sadanon are such a good actors, they really let me feel Dew and Phop’s pain. Their chemistry together really shined through, I would love to see them in something else together. Also the rest of the cast was great; Phop’s father was a complete asshole and I was happy when Phop finally fought back against him. I felt bad for Phop’s mom who had to see her son be thrown away like garbage because of who he likes. The score was beautiful and set the tone for the movie just right. This is my first review, this movie is really good. The story about Phop and Dew when rural Thailand when homosexual is still a terminal disease. Then cos of the circumstances Phop ranaway from home and back to his hometown 23 years later. Where the past will catch up with him.I know it would be a sad ending judging by the trailer I watched yet as It reached the middle part I really hope that I was wrong and the trailer just to misled the audience.
Oh boy, I was really shocked! I even threw my phone to my bed cos when I finally realized the mystery. I really was hoping that Dew grew up and they would reconcile and live happily ever after. They still lived happily tho, but not the way I was thinking.

A Powerful & Poignant Movie by the Writer/Director of The Love of Siam
I found this to be an intense, and incredibly beautiful movie. After viewing all those BL series, which I enjoy, this was a delightful change. Although I must say there is a sense of sadness and regret beneath the surface of this film. But that does not take away its beauty. You really must watch it to fully understand my, and the movie's, meaning. Dew the Movie was written and directed by Chookiat Sakveerakul (aka Ma-Deaw) who also wrote and directed the classic Thai movie "The Love of Siam" (2007).Considerați utilă această recenzie?
