BRAVO, BRAVO, BRAVÍSIMO! A lo largo de los 16 capítulos me he emocionado muchas veces con esta bonita historia, que es mucho más que un triángulo amoroso! Este drama regala al espectador, muchísimos momentos desternillantes y cómicos muy bién contados que hacen las delicias de los amantes de las historias locas e hilarantes, pero cuando de verdad la historia es maravillosa es cuando el drama nos hace llorar y emocionar. Sus protagonistas nos han ganado con su química y su naturalidad al actuar. Un 10 a todo, a los actores, a la historia de amor, a los secundarios, a la ambientación, a la música maravillosa y a la cuidada producción!!#teamsuho forever!!!

Globalement décevant...
Avec sa popularité croissante, le webtoon était aux lèvres de tout le monde. C'est donc avec assez de confiance que j'ai lancé le premier épisode - pensant sans y réfléchir à deux fois que j'allais passer un super moment. Mais dès le deuxième épisode, une faiblesse se faisait déjà sentir...Les personnes ne sont pas très originaux, mais dans la majorité des cas, ce sont des profils qui fonctionnent. Pourtant, Im Ju Gyeong m'a usé. Elle est supposée être forte, or elle passe son temps à pleurnicher. Si on arrive à ressentir énormément de sympathie à son égard, le scénario va tirer sur cette corde trop souvent et trop longtemps jusqu'au moment où elle va se casser.
Lee Su Ho est le portrait type du garçon beau, riche, populaire auprès des filles, mais solitaire. Le problème de ce personnage est qu'il s'approche trop de Do Gyeong Seok qu'on retrouve dans My ID is Gangnam Beauty, incarné par Cha Eun Woo lui-même deux ans plus tôt. Pas de surprise de ce côté-ci.
En revanche, impossible d'ignorer Hwang In Yeop qui incarné Han Seo Jun. Bien que campé sur trente jolies années, l'acteur dégage un réel charisme et une assurance marquée qui ne laisse personne insensible. Son personnage est probablement le plus développé et intéressant de tout le drama.
Malgré l'adoration porté au personnage de Han Seo Jun, True Beauty souffre de scènes brouillonnes, mal amenées et embarrassantes pour la plupart d'entre elles. Le triangle amoureux est un pétard mouillé, car sans aucune surprise, l'héroïne devient un personnage qu'on souhaite fuir, tandis que la rivalité entre les deux ML n'explose jamais l'écran.
Bref, True Beauty possède un bon casting, mais des portraits types qui ne fonctionnent pas vraiment. Ses nombreux clichés et situations embarrassantes peuvent gêner plus qu'autre chose. Cependant, on retiendra la performance de Hwang In Yeop qui porte l'uniforme comme personne ainsi qu'une magnifique photographie.

as someone who read the webtoon before watching the drama, i must say that conversion from webtoon to a kdrama version is done pretty well. i know not everyone is going to agree but with a solid cast, it was quite entertaining to say the least.while i'm not the fan of the way kdramas insert a love triangle and that too make it instense when the drama is about to reach its climax, i personally still enjoyed the drama. the cast did a wonderful job on their roles and i can not help but praise the performances of moon ga young, cha eunwoo and hwang in yeop.
although i preferred a story centered around jugyeong working on her insecurities and confidence and a support group consisting her gal pals and broski with a supportive mom, i pushed everything away and came back to the reality that this is still a high school cliché drama.
as the episodes went on, i can't deny that the story got quite boring. while the scenes were hilarious, i just wished they didn't drag much of jugyeong hiding her bare face. the title is true beauty and i get that the romance is a central point but i feel like jugyeong's character development was short lived? i genuinely didn't like how suho literally followed jugyeong around just when she had the chance to move on. for real, it literally makes no sense for suho to come back and get back with jugyeong but.... this is a cliché kdrama and i need to remind myself of that point.
all i can say is seo jun deserves better. the guy finally had the courage to confess after 2 years but the writers said "you're a sl. you have no right." i would've accepted it more if suho came back because he wants to make amends with jugyeong but not to be in a relationship. i guess i'm asking too much because...... this is a high school cliché drama.
however, this does have its charming points. seojun's group of friends and tae yoon had me wheezing. jugyeong's sis and her grapefruit was a breath of fresh air. su ah's conversation with jugyeong about su jin was a lot to think about. while i didn't like how su jin's character was handled (tho it was reasonable), it was nice to see her live for herself and not under her dad's abuse.
overall, this drama was cheesy yet enjoyable if your cringe meter is turned off and you're in for cutesy vibes.

Hilarious rom-com - a parody of its genre and everything the original webtoon failed to be
I wonder what people were thinking when they started the drama to comment later that this was predictable. Like literally what were you thinking this was? Misaeng? Stranger? Voice? Why would you even start a high school drama with the 18 years old "ugly" girl with makeup and 2 hot boys in love with her to begin with expecting the twists of say..Penthouse ? If you have watched enough k-dramas you would know that this drama was literally parody of many typical k-drama plots and has cliche plastered in it's poster. It was made to be laughed about and it was almost a satire of its own genre.It can be many things including predictable, but boring? oh no, that it isn't.
I didn't like the webtoon but I am here because of my girl Moon Ga Young because I love her acting! The direction was also really good and it was hilarious! They have diverted from the webtoon as much as possible so I was happy with the plot.
The sad parts seemed to be well potrayed possibly also because of MGY's great acting. I gotta say that the cast is seriously full of good looking people, including the friends, the parents, the siblings and so on. But they are also really cute. I liked all the side characters. I am a big fan of the actress who plays the older sister and the character she is portraying. I am hoping that unlike the webtoon, this will show positive values about beauty and character development.
The reason I like the main couple is that the director never failed to show they were even for a second. No misleading scenes despite sweet/sad/cute scenes with the second lead. Her feelings were clear, not like in Start Up where the FL kept staring/following around/was in love with HJP for 15 years and 9 episodes and the whole audience was extremely confused and some were so even until the penultimate episode.
The male lead here has a messed up childhood and adolescence, with his orphan life, bad father and death of the closest friend and loss of all friendships. Human interaction is not something he has had much. The main female lead had a pretty sad growing up too until recently with so much bullying and even her own mom making her feel worthless. Then one day he finds this one and only person who can make him smile and she finds this one and only person who can make her feel loved and beautiful for who she is. They are so emotionally intimate with each other even before the kiss that it was just right: the right amount of vulnerability, the right amount of awkwardness, the right amount of friendship and understanding. They are teens and they are perfectly fine both as themselves and as a couple.
It litterally gave us a sensible breakup for such a young couple with actual COMMUNICATION and the most realistic way in which people go back together (and COMMUNICATE about what went wrong before) and how some move on with life but their heart never does.
Their going back reminded me of some meetings in my own life that I should never have had and the meeting of Reply 1997 of the main leads after 6 years. I will never forget those iconic words in his thoughts when he saw her again:
"Because of you I avoided reunions and visit your parents the day before you would come. On holidays, I lie about having enteritis or eye infection. I've made all stupid excuses for past six years. But you're made all my efforts go powerless at once. Si-won Sung, you bitch. Everything went back to the first day of our high school back in 1996, to the day of out first kiss in 1997, to the day when I was crying like a madman in 1998. Everything went back to that winter. To be more accurate Yoon Jae Yoon from the 90s has just come back." This pretty much what happens if you just move on with your life but keep your heart parked at one single crossroad forever.
I love the drama much more than only the love line. I love the second lead and his whole family. I love all JK's siblings. I love all the side love stories, the friendships and the funny scenes which are actually funny and the acting of the cast and what else can I even say. I didn't even want to start this because the lost plot of the webtoon and the lack of any type of character development were not my cup of tea but I did, for MGY and I don't regret it one bit

I haven't read the Webtoon, so I don't know exactly how different the drama is, but I love this drama! I'm only recently into k dramas, but I feel like I should have started watched them sooner.As for the story, here's a questionable amount of accidental contact in the beginning. Like, that doesn't happen often in real life. And also how does the FL have flawless, smooth skin with her makeup on? It's not that easy make your skin look smooth with makeup when you have acne/ pimples. I loved the bromance and how the ML and Seojun got back on good terms. I experienced second lead syndrome with Seojun. He handled the news that the ML and FL were dating calmly and didn't try to sabotage them. On the other hand, that is not the case with Kang Soo Jin. She tried to sabotage them and even exposed the FL's secret.
Don't worry, there's character development. Kang Soo Jin's parents divorced at the end of the drama and she got a reality check. The FL's mother was a jerk in the first half of the drama, but after she found out she was bullied, she treated her nicer and supported her dream.
And honestly, the FL isn't ugly. She just needs to take care of her skin.

Would I rewatch? I already have lol
Cheesy? Yes. But when you sign up to watch True Beauty, you already know that you're in for high school drama, and it's definitely the best one I've seen so far. I was in awe that this teenage drama made a 30 something year old get this hooked.The story is very cute. Many times the female lead in a story like this doesn't have that many qualities to admire and you end up wondering what the big deal is. Jukyung is bubbly, a great friend, driven (but for her own aspirations, not just for the sake of winning) into metal music and horror manga. Lee SuHo and SeoJun were likeable on their own tights, despite portraying flawed teenage boys.
I was happy to see everything tied together nicely at the end, without the drama being drawn out unnecessarily. I looked forward to my Wednesday and Thursday True Beauty watches for some great few months there, and I was sad enough when I had no episodes that I would rewatch what was out. But nothing is worse than a show being ruined for the sake of making more money and keeping it alive for years (I guess that's what's happening with the webtoon).
Some other highlights: great use of music (including intro), superb acting by FL, iconic moments (okey dokey yo, otoke otoke), strong second female leads (including vegan sister).

A true romcom worth watching
This is a good romcom but it makes a couple of mistakes that keeps it from being truly great. It’s not a bad drama, I enjoyed it, but it could have been so much better. First, it makes the second male lead too perfect. He’s almost irresistible to the audience. Few people can resist the lure of a super hot bad boy that’s manly and tough on the outside but a sweet wounded little puppy on the inside. And then matters are further compounded by not giving him a love interest of his own to turn to for comfort. No, instead we always see him off by himself in some corner crying his eyes out. Their making him so pitiful only fired up his fans. People were firmly on either “team Suho” or “team Seojun.” Any drama that creates a strong second lead syndrome like this should expect mixed reviews with some loving it and others hating it depending on whether or not their crush got the girl. And those negative reviews will only end up hurting viewership and ratings.The second mistake they made was that the only thing they focused on for 10 straight episodes was the misunderstandings between the main leads and the female leads fear of being seen without makeup. The story just didn’t have enough depth to hold my attention span for that long. It was cute in the beginning but got tiresome after a while. I can see why some may have dropped it. Fortunately around episodes 11-12 it gets better. The story finally gets a villain and bullying and unrequited love are addressed. The side characters become a bit more fleshed out too, often providing comedic relief during the sad and angsty parts.
The one thing that really confused me was why everyone was calling this a love triangle when it clearly never was one. The dramas description only mentions two characters, Joo Gyeong the makeup goddess, and Suho the boy who helps her “find her true beauty.” It even describes these two as “finding love with each other.” So one would have to be a fool not to know who the main leads are and who the girl will end up with. And in the drama the female lead never flirts with or leads on the second male lead. It’s very clear that she only sees him as a good friend. So the whole “love triangle” tag and those who commented about how angry they were when she chose the male lead had me scratching my head. I mean, did you even read the dramas description? Is it a love triangle? No. Is there unrequited love? Yes.
The second male lead having a big fan base might lead you to believe that the main male lead isn’t that good. But nothing could be further from the truth. Not only is he strikingly good looking, but his portrayal of the sad, lonely chaebol that is tortured by the death of his best friend is spot on. Having lost his mother early in life and then having his father neglect him and leave him on his own since middle school has left him emotionally stunted. His character growth is touching. You can’t help but love him. It’s no surprise that he has a huge fan base of his own rooting for his character.
One thing I really liked about this drama is that it continues to be a romcom throughout, never spiraling into a melodrama at the end. It stays true to its genre with lots of great comedy and romance. There is some sadness and angst but it’s never overly sad and the misunderstandings aren’t drawn out for too long. It has more of a light fun hearted feel to it.
That being said, the comedy was exceptionally good and had me literally laughing out loud. I would rewatch this drama just to relive some of the funny moments. The other great thing about this drama is the romance. The main leads have great chemistry and real kisses. There were at least a half dozen kisses and they were all long kisses too. There’s also piggyback rides, hugs, cuddles, and surprisingly enough, a bed scene. High School/college romcoms don’t usually have that much skinship so I was quite surprised. This drama is worthy of a watch just based on the comedy and romance alone. But be prepared for things to drag a bit in the middle and to have your heartstrings pulled by the second male lead. I did like that the story had a positive message of how true beauty isn’t superficial but it’s really about what’s inside that makes you truly beautiful. It’s not perfect, but definitely worth watching.

This drama will be most likely disappoint you if you love webtoon. I really like the webtoon, even though the character development was slow, which many did not find likeable. The growth arc of most characters in the drama was very significant and enjoyable to watch. I love jugyeong’s character arc the best. At times a found the show too cringey to watch, but the humour made it up for the cringe.
I was one of those people who was team seojun even before the drama started. I realised jugyeong doesn’t have any feelings for the 2ML, so I thought it was fine if she did not end up with him. Coming to Suho, I liked their relationship in high school. He left to the US as his father was sick, which was very understandable. But the moment he ghosted jugyeong, I was annoyed. They could have communicated and had closure for their relationship, without both of them suffering. He came back as if nothing happened and they’re back together again.
I wish they gave a happy ending to seojun with a new person or something.
The sidekicks were the best!!! I liked all the side couples, they adorable ?. In the end, soo jin was forgiven, which was okay.
The drama was too cliche for me, I would have definitely dropped it if was a normal drama. I just had to complete the drama because it was based on a webtoon I like. I adore the cast, Eun woo did improve his acting and I absolutely love moon ga young.

A decent drama, but not for everyone
I was a fan of the webtoon in its early days. Back then, all I desperately wanted was for the webtoon to become a drama. Eventually, I drifted from the webtoon (partly because I didn't like where the story was heading). But I kept my eyes and ears open for any news regarding the drama. After a year and half of waiting, my dreams finally seemed to be coming true. Cha Eun Woo was playing Lee Suho, and I couldn't be happier! But now that I have finished this drama, I have conflicting thoughts.Story-wise, I liked the message behind the show, throwing light on the 'pretty privilege' that goes unreviewed even in today's society. I liked the comedy in the show. In the beginning, it's a bit overboard, to the point where instead of laughing you are just cringing and/or feel like dying because of second-hand embarrassment. But after a few episodes, it is laugh-out-loud funny. Also, I feel like the story had a lot of unutilised potentials. The writers wasted too much time on the main couple's romance. They could've easily used that time for the development of certain characters. I don't know why they kept pushing the love triangle even up until the last episode. Inevitably, the ending was a bit rushed. It felt underwhelming. But the writers' handling of heavy topics and comedic elements is commendable, and I don't have any complaints regarding that aspect. Some heavy topics in this show can trigger some audiences. I have mentioned them at the end of this review since might be considered as mild spoilers.
Lim Ju Kyung was cliche makeover kdrama female lead. She was the usual pitiful, weak female lead with almost no likeable trait. Lee Suho too was the cliche, too-perfect-to-be-true, wealthy, cold male lead. Even Han Seojun's character was of the typical second male lead; the bad boy who's soft on the inside. Still, I might've liked him more than I want to admit. I assure you by the end of the drama you will fall for SJ real hard. Kang Soo Jin was a well-written and complex character, for a change and I enjoyed her quite a bit. The side characters were quite refreshing and made the show much more fun for me. They made the show much more bearable for me. Ju Kyung, thankfully developed as a character by the end of the show and I am pleasantly surprised!
As a now die-hard Seojun fan, I want to take a moment to appreciate the man. He deserves the whole wide world. I cannot tell you the numerous times I have had to pause the show to scream about how precious Seojun is and the fact that I won't be able to meet a guy like him. And the okey-dokey dance. Holy~! I see that scene every time I close my eyes and I am so not complaining. I have nothing more to say. I gonna stop now, or I will just burst into an unintelligible blabber about my love for Han Seo Jun.
I feel like I was not as invested in the main couple's romance as I was in Hee Kyung and Grapefruit's romance. Maybe it's because of my clear bias towards HSJ, or maybe it was because I LOVED their chemistry!! Hee Kyung and Grapefruit were the opposite of the cliche couple in a kdrama. Their romance was food for my soul. I enjoyed it so much! I also thoroughly enjoyed the Go Woon and Ju Young's little romance. The Lim family was quite an entertaining mess. I like how all the characters developed through the show; how they all became more sensitive towards each other and how they always had each others' back through thick and thin.
Moon Ka Young's acting was top-notch *chef's kiss*. She played JY perfectly. Cha Eun Woo is particularly chosen for roles like Suho's, and he plays them pretty well. This drama was the first time I had seen Hwang In Yeop act, and I was pleasantly surprised. Park Yoona did an amazing job playing Kang Soo Jin. She made me love and loathe her character just right, which I think is one of the qualities of a good actress.
The music was pretty decent. HIY's vocals gave me life, and so I will die for them if I have to. The other songs weren't particularly memorable.
Overall, the drama was different from the webtoon but still predictable. It is not a drama everyone can enjoy. Don't expect too much from this drama and you will enjoy it! I was a bit disappointed because I kept my expectations too high, but it might be different for you.

Strong and original in the beginning, predictable and cliché ending
So, here's the thing. For me, this drama started out strong. It was refreshing, had a good positive message and had me laughing out loud at times, while being super heartfelt at other times.The actors did a fantastic job in my opinion. Hwang In Yeop (Seo Jun) is obviously a very skilled and versatile actor, and he definetely stole the show. He stood out to me as a second male lead, even though the second male lead arc has been (over)used time and time again in kdramas. I am not the biggest fan of Cha Eunwoo's (Suho) acting, but he definetely improved from his acting in My ID is Gangnam Beauty. Instead of his usual tsundere/stoic character, he got to show more range and he was pretty convincing in this drama. Don't get me wrong, he still has the tsundere feel, but he had some touching and sincere acting moments where I almost felt the emotions along with his character.
It was pretty good, and then, somethings changed and more and more clichés piled up. I started feeling less connected to the story around the 13th episode, but I really felt disconnected by the time I reached the 15th episode. In the last two episodes, too many things with the story felt wrong for me to keep enjoying the story fully. Borderline creepy behaviour was played off as a romantic gesture, there were a lot of filler scenes, and all trace of originality in the storyline seemed to have vanished. At that point, I didn't care much about the romance, or even the plot as a whole. The only scenes I looked forward to were the ones where I got to see Hwang In-Yeop. He was so so wonderful in his role, dealing with both a really sentimental and comical sense to his character.
I think the main problem with this drama is that it is too romance focused rather than dealing with its actual subject. Had it dealt more with their subject of "true beauty" and the actual challenges the main character lives because of her appearance, things would have felt way better in my opinion. It feels like they pretty much forgot what they were trying to say by the end and only focused on the romance aspect. They resolved her worries too quickly. It's a shame, because I think this drama could have had a good message, but it was drowned out under the weight of the romance.
To be fair, I didn't HATE the ending. I just wished it was a bit more original, as it felt like I had seen this "perfect" ending 100 times prior. However, I have to say I do like open endings or bittersweet endings, so it may only be my taste that didn't suit this ending.
Quick note on the OST: it was great. I litterally have nothing to say. The song written by Suho and SeYeon is so so so beautiful.
So, I'm definetely not saying "do not watch this". I think it's a pretty good drama. But I think keep your mind open to the fact that the ending is pretty predictable and things don't make sense sometimes (like the fact that we are meant to believe that Ju Yeong (Moon Ga Young) looks unrecognisable with makeup, when she just looks like herself with bad skin). That's probably okay too, after all, kdrama endings are usually predictable.
Overall, I would recommend it, if it's your style. I probably won't be rewatching this though (maybe just compilations of Seo Jun's scenes...)

I am an avid True Beaty webtoon reader, and although I must admit that I am not a big fan of the webtoon, but I think this drama is pesonally... alright?
This drama is honestly, in my opinion, better than the webtoon. They made the characters more relatable and lovable, and it was quite different compared to the webtoon. The pairings were pretty interesting, and there were many funny and cute moments.
I think the casting and acting was great because they really portrayed the characters well! But the story... was really cliché and predictable. I found myself cringing a lot while watching. Not to mention the fact that there were so many stereotypical characters.
Overall, I didn't enjoy it very much, but it depends on your taste. If you love sappy and cliché dramas, go try this out! (my sister quite enjoyed it, so you might too, if you have the same taste as her)?????❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Funny, but lost interest
This drama has a empowering theme and talks about bullying and the resulting effects bullying can have on a person. Beauty is only skin deep. At first, I really did like the drama--it was cute, funny, and refreshing. The character development was nice and the gradual relationship build was good. However, I have to admit the story itself is cliché and predictable--which I did not mind at first, but the story started getting drawn out and I found myself having lost interest by episode 9-10. Then, I ended up dropping it altogether at episode 12. Perhaps, not the drama for me. Other people who enjoy the light-hearted, fluffy-wholesomeness, slow-paced may enjoy it more.Considerați utilă această recenzie?
