Ok first, I've been dying to write this review since episode three but I promised to myself that I would wait until I finished it, so, here I am. The most important thing about this drama is that it's seriously underrated. This one of the best dramas that I've ever seen and still there are no reviews. This a drama about second chances opposed to you typical innocent love.
Story-The story is about how the drama world functions, it tries to highlight the differences and similarities between dramas and real life. In the romantic part it's completely different from any kdrama that I've ever seen. So to give you an idea, the leads are exes, so it isn't about how they fall in love, but rather how real couples relate. I loved it because it was a completely realistic story and the kind of romance that shows is completely mature, as opposed to you typical romcom. Also I love that the story isn't only about their relationship. It really shows how the drama business function, and I loved the stories of the supporting characters, specially Uhm Ki Joon and Seo Hyo Rim's. I love that throughout the drama you can see all kinds of love, and that the main idea it that sometimes reality is way better.

Cast-Hyun Bin and Song Hye Kyo are like the bomb together, they have so much chemistry that at some scenes I thought the whole thing was gonna explode. I wasn't surprised at all when I found out they announced they were a couple in real life two months after the drama, I mean, you could totally see it through the screen. I loved Son Hye Kyo's evolution from Full House to Worlds Within, it shows she really grew as an actress and left behind her innocent self. The supporting actors where all really great, and each really had a chance to shine at least in an episode.

Music-The olnly thing that wasn't perfect in here. It wasn't bad but it wasn't anything special. Actually, it resembles a lot to My Girl's OST.

Rewatch Value-Definitely will rewatch it soon, I loved it, specially the cute scenes that make your heart melt.

Overall-This is a great drama, I recommend it for anyone, it has everything from romance (a lot), to comedy, family, friendship, drama and simply life.

I really loved this drama and I hope that through this review I can encourage at least a person to watch it. If you ever read this and because of this start watchingt this drama, please send me a message or leave a comment on my profile, it would mean a lot to me.

This was a pretty good series. As good as any South Korean drama is gonna get, I think. I’ll explain below what particularly worked for me and, of course, what didn’t. This review contains one minor spoiler, but it won’t spoil your enjoyment of the show. This is also going to be one of my longer reviews (I hope you'll read it, anyway :)

WHAT WORKED:

THE STORY - There are two sides to the plot. First, there’s the behind the scenes look at drama production in Korea & secondly the complicated love lives of the people who work in this industry. I was very pleased with the former, but not so much the latter.

I loved getting a glimpse into how productions go down in Korea. Even though I work in film production rather than TV production, I recognized well every challenge the young directors face because I face them in my own career too. The huge pressure of wanting to stay true to your artistic values while trying to satisfy overbearing executives who control your career, difficult actors, bad working conditions, productions going over budget & over schedule. Yup, been there, done that. There were also significant differences that really shocked me. I won’t get into details, but let’s just say Korean production crews deserve every respect for their dedication to their jobs. They work under some very extreme conditions that would have unions shutting us down here in the West.

THE MATURE TONE & MOOD OF THE DRAMA - I loved that in this drama sex isn’t the usual pink elephant in the room that’s never acknowledged. The drama is written by adults for adults, and that mature tone and mood permeates the show. The chemistry is just popping. If only more Korean dramas are like this. Unlike so many other Asian dramas - I actually BELIEVED the couple are indeed a couple.

THE ACTING - Overall the acting isn’t bad. Most of the supporting cast are great & like other reviewers said I too really enjoyed the storyline of Hæ Jin and Gyo Ho. I never thought their relationship would play out the way it did. I had a bad first impression of Gyo Ho, but he completely redeems himself by the end.

As for the leads, since coming to dramaland some 7-8 mths ago I’ve heard an earful about Hyun Bin. This was my first opportunity to see him in action & I must say I get the hype. He is gorgeous! There were times when I really envied Song Hye Kyo, that she should be so lucky to play house with such an amazingly handsome guy.

But anyway … now that that’s out of the way, I think, acting wise, what Hyun Bin has going for him is that he’s got some of the most expressive eyes I’ve ever seen on a male Korean actor. The eyes are one of an actor’s most powerful tools. Look at the most successful, well-regarded actors and they all have these amazingly expressive eyes that can convey any variety of emotions: love, anger, sadness, indifference … I believe this is true for Hyun Bin. All he has to do is just look at his co-star and you can feel his emotions through his eyes without him having to open his mouth.

Hyun Bin certainly has the skills, the charisma and the charm to be a really powerful actor. However, he was still a relatively young man in this drama, 25-26 yrs at the time of filming. So he didn’t have much life experience that would've added an extra layer of nuance to his performance. For this reason sometimes his acting did come across a bit immature. Had nothing to do with the character he played (an immature guy in his own right, sure), but just the fact that life experience adds another dimension to how you process the world around you & thus how you interpret a role.

Lead actress Song Hye Kyo is not able to emote on the same level as Hyun Bin. The one emotion she's good at in this drama was ire. That is not to say she’s a bad actress because she isn’t, per se. One of the characters, an actress playing an actress, made an interesting observation: she said many young actors don’t know how to apply acting techniques. They try to portray emotion in a very literal, mechanical fashion, for eg if they’re supposed to be angry they scream, if they’re supposed to be sad, they weep etc … it’s an interesting observation because I think this describes both Hyun Bin & Song Hye Kyo’s performances well, but more so hers than his. This is true of Hyun Bin only when he expresses anger (his rantings & ravings were hilarious and cute, though lol), but with Song I felt like this mechanical interpretation of her character’s emotions is her default approach. I didn’t like it, but okay.

WHAT DIDN'T WORK SO WELL:

JI-OH & JOON YOUNG'S RELATIONSHIP - Their relationship is annoying & immature, probably because both characters are really just big babies that throw temper tantrums when they don't get their way or say dumb sh-- because they don’t know how to express their emotions in an adult fashion. Ji-oh and Joon Young fight over the dumbest things. The childishness grated on my nerves, and as the drama ended I didn’t feel confident that they’ll last any amount of time with this type of dynamic between them. They were together before, broke up then got back together, but neither one of them seem to have grown from this experience. This feeling took away from my enjoyment of the show because for me what makes a great romance drama is the feeling I’m left with at the end, that even though no relationship is perfect they’ll be able to overcome the trials life throws at them & live together happily.

THE SHOW'S ATTEMPT TO BE PHILOSOPHICAL - the show’s attempt to philosophize about how life imitates art fell flat for me. All the introspective commentary just felt like they were trying too hard to be 'different', for the lack of a better term. Contrived.

THE FEMALE LEADS - But by far what provoked me the most about this show ... some of the female characters, in particular two of the 3 female leads. The main female character Joo Joon Young, played by Song Hye Kyo is, when all is said and done, not a very likable person.

Joon Young is a driven, ambitious, career-minded young woman. She works in a male dominated environment where she deals with a lot of sexism & has to hold her own. I loved all this about her because when it comes to work, I related to her character so well. She lives my life & with great panache (as I would like to think I approach my work as well).

On a personal level though Joon Young is rude, selfish, spiteful and cruel, sometimes for no good reason whatsoever. I think the deficiency in the characters is both as a result of how she’s written and how she’s played by Song Hye Kyo. There’s not one perfect character in this drama, but it’s one thing to have a character who is human and isn’t always cookie cutter perfect & another to have complete jerks & bitches with NO redeeming qualities.

Take for example Ji - Oh, played by Hyun Bin. He verbally and physically abuses his staff on set, and loses his temper left, right and centre. But once the production is wrapped & the stress of the situation tones down he’ll humbly apologize and take everyone out for soju. In his love relationship he has a mean streak that rears its ugly head when he feels cornered by emotions he can’t process, but again once he comes to his senses he’ll humbly apologize and ask for forgiveness. So just when you’re convinced he’s a jerk, he turns around and convinces you otherwise. This made him very human & very sympathetic because even though he makes mistakes that sometimes hurt people, he accepts responsibility & expresses remorse.

Joon Young, on the other hand, never takes responsibility for anything even when she’s blatantly in the wrong. Here’s one example (out of many) of what I mean:

There’s a particular scene in which she agrees to meet another character at a restaurant. She sent a text saying that she is going to be late. She doesn’t say how late, but naturally the other person is not expecting her to turn up 2.5 hrs late. But that's exactly what she does. And when the character expresses annoyance, instead of apologizing, she gets all huffy and argues that she did send a text and blah blah. As if she’s so great that anyone should wait around 2.5 hrs for her. That type of arrogance. That type of rudeness. Ugh. This is just 1 of MANY such scenarios. She’s missing a real sensitivity chip and that made it difficult to like her.

I initially rated this drama a 7, but decided to raise it to an 8 because in the end it became somewhat of a masterclass for me. It made me think about how I develop my own work, esp female characters that I may write in the future. TWTTLI also has other good things going for it, so I’d still highly recommend it to anyone who likes a nice, adult drama. Moreover this was the best introduction ever to the lovely mr. Hyun Bin. Not sure if I’m a fan yet, but yeah he’s got me all hot n bothered alright! Haha! :-)

First of all, Hyun Bin's awesome. I love most of the dramas/movies he's been in so I recommend checking him out. This drama is another awesome drama he's been in. Song Hye Kyo and him together are adorable. It's a very realistic storyline. Some craziness does happen in it but none of those unrealistic type of things that happen in other dramas. You can actually imagine this happening to real people. So, I thought the storyline was awesome and so was the cast. I've rewatched at least part of this drama several times so I think it's very rewatchable. I hope people give this drama a try and really enjoy it as much as I did.

The first time I tried watching this I was on a Hyun Bin kick after watching Secret Garden. I made it to episode 3 before I dropped it due to finding it boring. That was when I was really new to dramas but recently Ive been in a drama slump and decided to give it another try because I like some of the writer’s other works such as Goodbye Solo (really underrated watch it! ) and Padam Padam…

Story: Many would probably find the lack of a plot boring but I didn’t mind it after giving the drama a second chance. The writer just focuses on showcasing the lives of people in the drama industry. Its not about making dramas but what may go on in the lives of these characters and also how they interact with each other. There’s several romances, breakups and makeups which can be seen as realistic. I loved the ending it was perfect!!

Acting/Cast: This is an ensemble piece so even though you might be in it for the billed actors (Hyun Bin and Song Kye Hyo) you will come to love all the actors involved. The chemistry between everyone was soo good that you will become attached to all the characters and root for them. My only gripe is they could’ve showed more scenes of the Gyu Ho/ Hae Jin pairing. I also thought that Daniel Choi was a scene-stealer and his character was unlike anything ive seen him play.

Music: It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t memorable either.

Rewatch: Fast pacing, a great ensemble cast, and a nice ending make it very rewatchable but I don’t have to watch it again for a while.

Overall I think a more seasoned drama watcher or viewers who like mature/realistic stories will enjoy Worlds Within a lot.

"The World That They Live In" takes you to an emotional roller coaster that will make you think of getting off somewhere along the ride, but at the same time, will have you anticipating what's next!

It definitely lives up to its title as it truly takes us to "the world that they (production staff, crew and team) live in", and I think, that's one of the most enjoyable part of the show. It gives us a glimpse of the real life drama of the people behind the dramas we love to watch.

The story of this show does not only focus on the lead actors, Hyun Bin and Song Hye-kyo. It also dedicated some episodes about the supporting actors, which I found fun too! It gives depth to the supporting characters and again, gives us a glimpse of the dramas in the lives of actors / actresses, story-writers, scriptwriters, chief directors... and other people involved in the production as well.

However, the story of the main actors was a bit frustrating! The conflicts between them and within each character seem so shallow, and you would want to hit your laptop screen several times. Still, both Hyun Bin and Song Hye-kyo's beautiful faces and good acting skills will keep you from doing so.

Besides their incredible beauty and acting, Hyun Bin and Song Hye-kyo's chemistry will make you go crazy.

"The World That They Live In" is not perfect. It will also be frustrating at some point, but trust me, the end will make you wanting for more.

Oh my gosh I had so much to say watching this drama. The first thing I have to say is this drama is only for mature audience b/c if you are looking for fairy tale story this is not it. I watched this drama to episode 11 before i put it on hold b/c i was getting tired of i, but i'm glad i completed it. This drama emphasize on the reality of relationship. There were a lot of breaking up, getting back together and so on. Although reality can be sometimes a bore which is true b/c a few scene did bore the hell out of me. Nevertheless this drama was great. It was so cool seeing a show being produced within another show and seeing what goes on in tv production. I loved the ending. And all the actors and other cast member did such a great job with this drama. Overall I felt this drama deserved a 7.5 but I rounded it to a 8:)

I don't even know how to begin. First off, I found this drama through its illustrious cast. We have our Song Hye-Kyo, best known in her role in Full House. And of course, Hyun Bin (kya!), my single favorite korean actor of all time. With Uhm Ki Joon (Ghost, Dream High) and Seo Hyo Rim (Sunkyunkwan Scandal Scent of a Woman), it made for a wonderful cast.
When I first encountered this drama, the reviews were good, but I'd never really heard of it. To be fair, the first time I didn't give this drama the mindset it deserved. I had just come off Secret Garden, (Binnie!!) and was desperately looking for another drama of Hun Bin's when I found this. Expecting the wonderful, straight forward style slightly cliche drama that was Secret Garden, I only made it half way through the first episode before I abandoned it.
Big mistake.
A year or so later I came upon this series again and was thrilled. It literally took me about 4 days over my break from school to finish the entire series. And I was in love.
I have seen many korean dramas and then some, so I'm not kidding when I say it was one of the best dramas I've seen of all time.
But make no mistake; this drama stands alone.
It throws away the pink and fuzzy cloud of kdrama land and throws us behind the scenes--into the chaotic lives of directors, writers and all those who make dramas.
The drama focuses on the two main characters, Joo Joon Young (Song Hye Kyo) and Jung Ji Ho (Hyun Bin) who are both directors. In the beginning both are dating other people, and it is found out that they dated each other in college (don't worry; I won't give away TOO much). Suddenly they both find themselves single and decide to give their relationship another go. As the drama progresses they find themselves falling deeply in love with each other.
Lets not forget the other characters/couples. My personal favorite couple--Jang Hye Jin, a rookie actress and the cold hearted genius director Song Gyu Ho. I literally watched their scenes, sparse as they were, over and over again with a goofy grin on my face. There's the older actress and the humble director and poor goofy "crazy miss yang" , played by another one of my favorite goofy actors, Daniel Choi. (As if the cast couldn't get any better).
As love, health, marriage, and family all get tested among the characters, we find ourselves surrounded in their "world" of dramas. They tell each other to "live like a drama", but realize along the way the difference between the dramas they create and reality.
The chemistry, of course, is amazing, and I get the satisfaction of knowing the main couples' on screen love was real, as Hyun Bin and Song Hye Kyo did begin going out after the series. Sincerely watch this show--I promise you it will be different from other dramas you have watched, but in the best way possible.

This drama isn’t a typical Korean drama. It shows some of the inner workings of making a drama and compares dramas to real life. There are many romances in this drama and I enjoyed each of them. It also deals with family dynamics. It is more realistic than a lot of dramas that I have seen. Sometimes that is a turn off to me, because I watch dramas to escape from reality, but this time it worked out.

Hyun Bin plays Ji Ho and does a superb job. Ji Ho’s character is sweet with a cruel side. There were times during this drama that I really thought some one should just kick his butt.
Jun Young played by Song Hye Kyo was a strong Director in a man’s world at work. However, she seemed weak in relationships. I can’t stand it when a woman lets a man treat her bad. Regardless of the fact that I really didn’t enjoy her character that much, Hye Kyo is an excellent actress.
My second favorite couple is Gyu Ho/Uhm Ki Joon and Hae Jin/Seo Hyo Rim. Ki Joon is an awesome actor and I fell like he is vastly under-rated. If you get a chance, then you should watch him in Scent of a Woman. I love Hyo Rim in everything she plays in, because she is so versatile.
There are many secondary stories in this drama and I think each one of them is well written and acted.

The music was also appropriate for each scene.

I probably won’t rewatch this, but it is well worth watching!!! Enjoy!!!

The reason why I want to watch this drama is because of the casts. Hyun Bin and Song Hye Kyo. Wow!

Worlds Within is a drama that reflects reality. No super drama scenes to cry on. No big moments to be remarkable. But yet you will love this drama because of its being so natural, so realistic...

A day to days life of the directors and the world that they live in... Oh the title really suits the drama. hehehe

What I also like in this drama is the character of Jung Ji-oh (Hyun Bin), even he came from a poor family he loves his mother so much.

The chemistry of Hyun Bin and Song Hye Kyo are really undeniable.

This is a drama about making dramas. Jun Young falls in love with her sunbae Director Jong Ji Oh . The haps and mishaps of their relationship along with surrounding characters are pictured in this drama. The struggles the drama team goes through to complete each episode to air it on time and the rating hassles are portrayed well. Somewhere in the middle this drama gets stretched but its a mixture of relationships and daily work life of drama broadcasting people.

Its true, not a typical kdrama, but deals with everyday life with the backdrop of drama production.
Well it was not addicting like most dramas, and I found the charactor of the lead actress a little over bearing and the lead actors a bit too mild.
The charactors of the other pair were cuter. The drama dragged toward the half way mark and I had to skip a few episodes (didnt miss much of the story) and fast forward to the interesting scenes.
Music wasnt bad and the acting was very good. So if dont have anything else just give it a go.

Fun, sweet and very endearing. A female lead who is devoted to her career often forgets about the feelings of this around her. There were moments when I laughed so hard and moments when I my eyes felt like leaking. I enjoyed it because it open the door into how people are often misunderstood in relationships as well as how so many don’t understand. Not being empathetic or feeling connected to someone can often appear uncaring but it’s actually the opposite. It’s a good watch. Not to much action but enough to entertain
