Review - W.I.P

These two are going to make us swoon over their pair for sure. One is thinking, she is lying to the other while the other one knows everything (most probably) and is going to tease the hell out of her, giving me 'The Handmaiden' vibe.

The movie like production quality and sound editing felt really good, solid acting from everyone, well directed and segmented, specially the closer of episode one, what a twist! I love the cinematography so much. Out of all the GLs I’ve seen, I prefer this one the most in terms of the vibe and editing. I like the color gradient they use, it has a mature/serious/dramatic and kind of indie vibe.

Both the actresses has such expressive eyes! It's amazing. They perfectly portray there characters as someone who fell in love for the first time with the person they couldn't love. Those loving eyes longing for each other especially with Bonnie is what made me like them. Although sometimes it feels a bit too long or perhaps repetitive especially with Rak's butterfly eyes moving back and forth especially for something so outwardly platonic but maybe that's the point. I mean, to sell their underlying attraction right from the start and lowkey feelings for each other even by episode one. Scenes felt so intense.
I love the way scenes were filmed, especially in the scene where they were in Pam’s room, the screen was fuzzy around the edges like Pam and Rak were the only ones who existed in that moment.

You know this show is about to be an emotional/angsty roller coaster when they establish the overall plot in part one of episode one. I guess Pam can’t get too mad about Rak lying about the drawings when she has her own secrets. I’m very intrigued about what Mim’s character end goal is.

Great acting, the story is good but unnecessary ending.

I loved the chemistry between the actors and the story is very captivating. The OST sticks in your head and the characters are very well built. It was the first time I see something from Sonya and Lookmhee and I was surprised with their good acting. The drama quickly escalated and it made sense until some point.

The only reason it is not a 10 for me is because the jealousy was too much, it was hard not to see it as toxic. Episode 8 is completely unnecessary, I prefer to think it didn't exist :(

When a drama can't pick a lane

I'm just going to go straight to what hit the mark versus what left me scratching my head.

What I Loved:
1. The layers to Paik Sa-eon's and Hee-joo's characters were incredible. From Hee-joo's selective mutism to the gradual unraveling of Sa-eon's childhood trauma, it was interesting to piece together their histories. The revelation about there being an original Paik Sa-eon.

2. Plot Twists: The Paik family’s dark secrets were a lot to unpack.

What Just Didn't Make Sense:
1. Sa-eon’s Sudden Transformation: For years, he treated Hee-joo with cruelty and indifference, only to flip into a lovesick, protective husband out of nowhere.

2. Hee-joo’s Forgiveness: I get that Hee-joo might have felt starved of love, but her eagerness to forgive Sa-eon’s years of emotional neglect and harshness felt frustrating. Girl, demand an apology at least!

3. Overloaded Subplots: Between the hostage marriage, political scheming, family feuds, orphan murders, and secret identities, the plot sometimes felt overcrowded. I had to pause just to process what was happening.

4. Inconsistencies in Tone: One minute, it's a high-stakes thriller; the next, it’s a romance with over-the-top accidental kisses and blanket struggles. I couldn’t quite figure out what the drama wanted to be.

5. The Love Justification: So, Sa-eon loved Hee-joo all along but acted like a jerk to “protect himself from getting attached”? Make it make sense. There’s no excuse for years of cruelty, especially when you supposedly "rescued" her from one prison only to trap her in another.

6. The whole "loving my fake wife secretly". Couldn't they have worked on the marriage without the childish games?

This drama had so much potential with its intricate web of secrets and layered characters. But the inconsistent pacing and the frustrating relationship between Sa-eon and Hee-joo sometimes made it feel like the drama was sabotaging itself. While I enjoyed the suspense and certain emotional moments, I can't get over the lack of accountability in Sa-eon's character development.

Would I recommend it? Yes, but only to those who enjoy unpacking messy, flawed relationships and don’t mind a plot that's a bit all over the place.

Hurtfull

i get my membership here, so i can express my dissapointment for the ending, this is so messed up, the fight for love, ended with the same illness, really waste my time to watch 4 eps in a row, till 3.30 am. suddenly feel like a waste of time watching eps 1-34. the worst part is the end left hanging, make us guess, is it illness or just a fantasy. arghhhhhh, so frustated right now. remembering how the story ends. makes me search for explanation in the internet. and no one really knows the end. better just make zhizhi dead and qin fei can't move on, rather than makes us wonder what really happened.

Game-Changer

The title may seem slightly overdone, but Ossan's Love was just that- a game-changer. I watched this a while ago, but the entirety of Ossan's Love still remains in my mind and makes me laugh out of nowhere without warning. Despite BL being a relatively well-established premise in Japan, this short film offered an alternative to its predecessors in a 40-minute capsule comprising almost every reccuring theme in Japanese dramas- from the comic relief to the love triangle to the spur-of-the-moment 'confession- at the very end, it manages to claim a spot amongst a myriad of other dramas as an instant classic.

By appointing a goofy, somewhat-relatable clerk like Haruta as the main character of the story, we are readily welcomed to laugh at him and his sentiments regarding his sudden popularity amongst male employees at the company when he's only ever directed that sort of gaze towards women previously. Hase is his sweet, neat-freak roomie who is close enough with his senpai that the latter enjoys talking to him about virtually anything. Kurosawa is the reliable boss who always pushes others to keep going even when they fail, the anchor that reigns everyone to their responsibilities and does so in a way that benefits them. There is no denying that everyone executed their roles perfectly, too- I don't know anyone else who would've portrayed a Haruta as loveable as Tanaka Kei, or a trustworthy, cute colleague who we find most of our sympathies lying with- not to overlook his near-kiss of Haruta whilst he was sleeping, which was wrong without a doubt- and the kooky, rather assertive and presumptuous Chief- his segments made me the most uncomfortable, to tell the truth (what with the following around, taking photos and not letting Haruta give a concrete answer first before making assumptions).

I think one of the most important things to consider is that OL has achieved all this without any unfavourable tropes or glossing over of insensitive, inappropriate topics related to BL, being queer and the queer community- although Haruta's journey from being homophobic to accepting and even admitting towards his feelings for Hase is mostly left to interpretation (probably because the directors had to squeeze everything into those 40 minutes). Its reach wasn't prejudiced in that those associated with the BL 'sub-culture' or 'fujoshis'/'fudanshis' weren't the only ones indulging in this silly, hilarious story- everyone was.

All in all, Ossan's Love provides an intriguing, memorable and absolutely lovable alternative to the usual 'Masc' Top x 'Femme'/Gay Bottom trope seen in BL, with an additional unexpected, but completely welcome change in that the premise is set in a workplace between employees aged late-20s-50(?)s. There's a reason why it's remembered by everyone of various interests and backgrounds- thus ascertaining its notoriety. Kamisama, thanks for this BL!

NB: This will go down one of two ways, but...Hase was the better Maki 😂

Beautiful and Warm Lovestory

I have no words, it definitely surpassed my expectations (which were already high). Since everyone has a different idea around time travel, these stories is always kinda confusing, but I liked how there seemed to be a theme of fate (good or bad) and Sol just kept bulldozing it until she got the result that she wanted. I loved every single character (minus the stalker of course) and the episodes were so funny, I was smiling the whole last episode. And Sunjae was a lovable loser in love, Sol was really his one and only. They were such a cute couple, not too much angst to be honest. I loved the OST (Sudden Shower ❤️). Overall this was such a warm love story, never got bored or wanted it to end.

Flashbacks Stole the Show

"Love Your Enemy" had me hooked from the start—but only for the younger versions of the leads. Oh Ye Ju and Hong Min Ki? Absolute magic. Their chemistry was so good, I wanted the whole drama to stay in flashbacks! The adult leads weren’t bad, but they felt like a different couple altogether. The bickering was fun at first but dragged on, and don’t get me started on the unnecessary love triangle and abandoned subplots.

Kim Gab Soo as the grandparent? Chef’s kiss—he brought all the warmth and charm. But honestly, the highlight was teenage Ji Won carrying her rival to the nurse’s office. If the entire show had that kind of energy, it’d be a 10/10.

Watch it for the younger cast, skip the filler, and prepare to yell, "Just talk to each other!" every other episode. Fun in parts, but a missed opportunity overall.

How a rom com aut to be

I've watched too many k-romcoms that are so loveable but then they ruin it with some side plot at the end. or a years later ending. this ended how a rom com should end. the characters are so easily loveable and won actually experiences growth. he's so mature and sensitive to others he really becomes someone that sees the big picture. so tired of watching male leads act like adult babies when things don't play out like they want (I know it's the script, but that plot/script just gets so boring and predictable) this rom com was a breath of fresh air.

delightful drama sundae!

This is the combines action, intrigue, and a sprinkle of romance. This series has taken my world by storm, and it’s not just because of its captivating storyline—Dylan Wang’s performance as the lead is nothing short of mesmerizing!

From the moment he graces the screen, Dylan Wang captures your attention with his charismatic presence. He has this incredible ability to embody Xu Qian, bringing a depth and authenticity that makes you feel every emotion he portrays. Whether he’s battling foes or sharing tender moments with his co-stars, you can’t help but be drawn into his world.

Dylan’s character is a complex one, filled with layers that unfold beautifully throughout the series. He navigates the challenges of being a guardian with a blend of strength and vulnerability that is truly commendable. Watching him evolve from a young warrior to a seasoned protector is a journey that keeps you glued to your seat. His expressive eyes convey a thousand words, and you can see the passion he pours into every scene.

One of the standout moments for me was when his character faced a moral dilemma. The way Dylan portrayed the internal struggle was so relatable and raw that it left me in awe. You could feel the weight of his decisions, and it made me reflect on how our choices shape us. It’s moments like these that showcase his incredible acting chops and make him a standout star in the industry.

But it’s not all seriousness! Dylan also has a playful side that shines through in the lighter moments of the series. His chemistry with the supporting cast adds a delightful dynamic, and their banter is both hilarious and heartwarming. You can tell that he enjoys the camaraderie, and it translates beautifully on screen, making you feel like you’re part of their journey.

The production quality of "Guardians of the Dafeng" is top-notch, with stunning visuals and a captivating soundtrack that complements Dylan’s performance perfectly. The action sequences are thrilling, and you can see the dedication he put into training for those intense fight scenes. It’s a treat to watch him in action, and you can’t help but cheer him on as he faces off against formidable foes.

"Guardians of the Dafeng" is a must-watch, and Dylan Wang’s performance is the cherry on top of this delightful drama sundae! His talent, charm, and dedication to his craft make him a true gem in the entertainment industry. If you haven’t already, grab some popcorn, settle in, and get ready to be swept away by Dylan’s captivating portrayal. You won’t regret it! 🍿✨

Confort Drama

This drama is not like those that contain many misunderstandings and breakups. This one makes people happy and want a love life like theirs. I think the story is pretty good, maybe just missing some spots because it's only 24 eps. The thing I liked the most about this drama is the characters. In other dramas I've watched, the leads are simply coworkers. Here, I really feel like they're friends in real life. The way Zhou Yiran and Zhang Miaoyi look at each other makes me want to melt. They have an excellent chemistry and I'm manifesting for them to have a 2nd drama together. If you don't like misunderstandings and messy breakups, this drama is for you.

I have mixed feelings

I have mixed feelings with this show only because it had to be even numbers all the time for example you need to have one white spoon chef and one black spoon chef each time, but I felt we shouldn’t cater as much to the white spoon chefs because they are already popular and their business is doing well, while the black spoon chefs are all unknown and they are working hard in order to reveal their real name and have money while the white spoon chefs only get money. Anyways I may have some spoilers so be aware.
My favorite chefs were Triple Star, Cooking Maniac, and Goddess of Chinese Cuisine because I felt like they had so much talent and should’ve placed higher than what they all ended with. I will mention comic book chef and self made chef because I personally felt that they were so cool and when they were in the diner challenge they ate so hard. I wasn’t too much of a white spoon chef fan because I don’t really know who they were and because I felt they were a little rude, but then again it’s probably because they are in a challenge and they could be pretty nice in real life. What I didn’t like was the seafood challenge where Choi Hyun Seok literally almost took all the sea food, but proceeded to ask if he can borrow stuff from the black spoon chefs because they didn’t have enough and me personally I wouldn’t have given the green onions and got only 10 scallops and he kept asking for more when he had enough. Anyways, congratulations to the winner because you are so talented and that last meal they cooked looked fire and I would even like to try it. I would also like to see a season two and see what type of challenges the new chefs will have to go through since some of these challenges were very hard.

Hierarchy

After finishing "Alice in Borderland," I decided to give this series a try, and I really like it! It brought me back to the series "SCHOOL 2015".

Baek Ha Rin really got to me—she's such a difficult character! But honestly, if you dislike her, that just means the actress is doing a great job portraying her. Her acting is impressive! Every time I see her, I can't help but think of Wonyoung. 😅

Bona is on another level; I absolutely love her! From "Twenty-Five Twenty-One" to this show, the quality is amazing. The story, setting, soundtrack, characters, villains, and even the bystanders are all well portrayed!

I really appreciate how calm Su-ji is—she's a perfect example of a nonchalant person. I love her energy and her dedication to keep moving forward, despite the betrayals and lack of support from others. It's a great life lesson.

I adore the group she has created, and the paintball scenes are just fantastic! 😭

Overall, this drama is excellent! It has a vibe similar to "The Glory," and I love themes of revenge and getting back at those who deserve it.

I'm proud of the cast; you all did an amazing job! This series is definitely a must-watch!
