Donut's Complete Japanese List
This list will contain all of the Japanese shows, dramas, and movies I have watched so far, in chronological order.

1. Letters from Iwo Jima
Japanese Movie - 2006
I had to watch this for my summer project for AP US History before my junior year of high school. Well, I could choose any movie but I chose this one. The memories! I still don't remember what grade I got on that project, because my teacher only graded it many months later before we received our final grades for the class. This was my first Asian drama/movie, come to think of it.

2. Yuru Camp△
Japanese Drama - 2020, 12 episodes
I watched the anime version of this sometime in the fall of my junior year. Anyways, I decided to watch this live-action version, binging most of it while I was on my period (TMI, I know). I remember I was super feverish when my period ended so I was lying down on the couch watching this trying not to think about how warm and weak I felt. Yuru Camp has always been a really comfy series so it definitely made me feel a lot better.

3. Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge
Japanese Drama - 2010, 10 episodes
It looks like Kyohei's actor has some nice cat eyes, and Sunako's actress has pretty plump lips. Nice. So, this series was interesting to me - since I'd seen the anime version. I'd have to say that they adapted Yamato Nadeshiko in a more mature way, and the relationships just seemed to be more complex and less flowery-high-school.
-
4. The Disastrous Life of Saiki K
Japanese Movie - 2017
Like the anime for Saiki K, this was over the top. It was a little unsettling to see actors act like gag anime characters, but it still made me laugh.
-
5. 5-ji Kara 9-ji Made
Japanese Drama - 2015, 10 episodes
The ending for this anime is called Christmas Song by Back Number. It is a lovely song that I keep listening to over and over again. It reminds me of the winter time, especially on a Friday when I can come home, take a cold shower, wear pajamas, use a face mask, and just relax.
-
6. 3 Nen A Gumi: Ima kara Mina-san wa, Hitojichi Desu
Japanese Drama - 2019, 10 episodes
There were a lot of twists and turns with this one! I wasn't sure what to expect during the whole thing, and it turned out pretty great. I also appreciate the actor for Hiiragi Ibuki. He was able to be both a maniac and a hero at the same time.
-
7. 3 Nen A Gumi: Ima kara minasan dake no, Sotsugyoshiki desu
Japanese Special - 2019, 2 episodes
This was a fitting end to the Hiiragi-sensei series. It allowed for us to reflect on all of the students and their growth throughout the past 10 days.
-
8. Orange
Japanese Movie - 2015
It still ended up as sweet and lovely, while the acting of the female lead seemed a little forced and cringy. That's only because they took it straight from source, and she was supposed to be awkward anyway.
-
9. Shokuzai
Japanese Drama - 2012, 5 episodes
This was a short noir featuring horror and psychological elements. The doll episode in particular was freaky, but there wasn't much logic or rationality in the mother's actions making it a little less enjoyable.
-
10. Godzilla
Japanese Movie - 1954
OHH NO, THEY SAY HE'S GOT TO GO GO GO GODZILLA DA DA DA DA DA DA
OHH, NOOOO, THERE GOES TOKYO GO GO GODZILLA DA DA DA DA DA DA DA DAAA
-
11. Kodoku no Gurume
Japanese Drama - 2012, 12 episodes
Old Man Goro is always thinking about food. But, along the way, you find out that he can do business, he can fight, and he's always got an eye out for the people around him. I think he wins in the "manly man" department.
-
12. Wakako Zake
Japanese Drama - 2015, 12 episodes
Food and alcohol tend to yield a beautiful creation of warmth and loveliness to watch when you're procrastinating on your engineering lab homework.
-
13. Imawa no Kuni no Alice
Japanese Drama - 2020, 8 episodes
One of the best anime, manga, and general adaptations I've seen in a while! I loved watching it so much and the storyline is fantastic. It's got Kento Yamazaki being Kento Yamazaki, as usual too :)
-
14. I Am a Hero
Japanese Movie - 2016
This made me want to reread the manga for sure. I think this adaptation was actually a little better than the manga, which is pretty exciting!
-
15. Kodoku no Gurume 2020 New Year's Eve SP
Japanese Special - 2020, 1 episode
Ugh, everything looked so delicious in this one! My mouth watered and, to be honest, I didn't have much for dinner tonight. Guess I'll have a little something for dessert?
