My TOP 10 Favorite Dramas

1. Arthdal Chronicles Part 1: The Children of Prophecy
Korean Drama - 2019, 6 episodes
(ALL 3 PARTS ARE GOLDEN BTW) This is legit so underrated yet probably the best drama I have ever seen. The comparisons to Game of Thrones are probably what threw people off, but legit the only similarities are the genre and a couple archetypes.
Arthdal Chronicles (staring Song Joong Ki and Kim Ji Won) is a historical/ fantasy drama set in the bronze age in an ancient kingdom called Arthdal. It is so unique because I've never seen a historical drama set in this time period. The plot and worldbuilding are absolutely incredible. As an avid reader, I rarely see worldbuilding in shows or movies that compare to a good fantasy novel, but this show has worldbuilding comparable to a Brandon Sanderson book (and that is saying something). It is most definitely a plot driven story and the plot NEVER drags. Some have said it's slow, but frankly it is quite the opposite, the tensions that arise from all the complexity going on is intense.
The cast is top notch, the setting is beautiful and the OST (Poem of Destiny by Ailee) is literally the most beautifully intense and unique drama OST out there. Also, if you loved Song Joong Ki in Vincenzo and are trying to move on, he is absolutely incredible in this drama. 1000000/10 RECCOMEND!! Also...WHERE IS MY SEASON 2!!!!!!!! I HAVE BEEN PROMOTING THE HECK OUT OF THIS DRAMA ON EVERY PLATFORM POSSIBLE BECAUSE IT IS SOOO GOOOD SO PLEASE WATCH IT!!

2. Better Days
Chinese Movie - 2019
This is neither Korean nor a Drama but it is just soooo good that I have to recommend it. Better Days is a Chinese Movie about a girl who is being bullied at school and her relationship with a tough street kid, with whom she is implicated in the murder of a teenage girl. Premise sounds basic, BUT THE STORY IS ABSOLUTELY NOT. The most avid comparison I can give you to this is Parasite with a tiny bit more romance. It's a critique of so many corrupt institutions (half of the more obvious critics were removed though, because of Chinese censorship), while also having such compelling characters. The 2 main leads barely have any lines, yet the chemistry is SOOOO INTENSEEE. It's the kind of movie that makes you want to keep coming back and never stop thinking about it. I showed it to 2 of my friends who do not watch Kdramas or Foreign Films at all and they were engrossed from the beginning to end so.... WATCH IT!!!

3. Vincenzo
Korean Drama - 2021, 20 episodes
I am in my Song Joong Ki obsession phase cause I cannot move on from this!! It's somehow a comedy, romance, action, mystery, and crime drama all at once without being over bearing and I love me a morally grey anti-hero. I need not explain more, go watch it!

4. 18 Again
Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes
This one literally made me fall in love with Lee Do Hyun. It's an adaptation of Zac Efrons 2009 Move 17 again, but this one is just soo much more compelling. 17 Again was one of the iconic early 2000's movies so I didn't know if this would live up to it, but boy did it SURPASS IT!! The plot never drags and keeps you intrigued till the very end so i sincerely applaud the writer for that and the actors are all brilliant. It's such a heart-warming, family oriented and beautifully done show, and I reeally wish it got more recognition for how great it was! (p.s for those who loved Hwang In Yeop in True Beauty, he is in here tooo)

5. The Smile Has Left Your Eyes
Korean Drama - 2018, 16 episodes
???? I normally get over a good drama after a couple days, weeks if it's absolutely brilliant, but this one stuck with me for MONTHS!! It is probably the most beautifully depressing Melodrama on the planet. Seo In Guk AND Jung So Min are in it, so you know it's about to be good, but the character development is what's really beautiful. The whole tortured bad boy meets good girl trope get's a major glow-up with this one. Highly Reccomend.

6. Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo
Korean Drama - 2016, 20 episodes
Probably the best historical drama ever! I've been getting kind of sick of how all historical dramas follow the same plot of messy royal politics, but this one takes a huge twist from the start. The FL (played by our wonderful miss IU) get's transported into the past and has to adjust (which is kinda cliche I admit) but the comedic start takes a gradual more realistic turn and ends so tragically that you experience the full spectrum of human emotions throughout. I feel like Mr.Queen is a pretty good comparison, but tbh Moon Lover is better. Also, the cast is legit ICONIC (IU, Lee Joong Gi, Nam Joo Hyuk, Jisoo, Baekhyun (for the Exo-l's), Kang Ha Neul, and MANY More)

7. Viața E Complicată
Korean Drama - 2018, 16 episodes
IU Once again being a total queen! The show is not something I thought I'd be interested in cause of the dark melodrama vibes but somehow the writer made it so that you never get bored and are always following along. It really is a testament to humanity and deserves all the critical acclaim it received. Lee Sun Kyun was absolutely brilliant in this, He potrays a tired man trying to do right by everyone while simultaneously trying to find joy in his miserable life which he eventually finds in a young coworker Lee Ji An (you'd think the age gap would make it weird but it doesn't mainly because there's really no romance between the 2). It's a story about finding happiness which I think is beautiful.

8. A Werewolf Boy
Korean Movie - 2012
Another reason why Song Joong Ki is absolutely amazing!! He had 2 lines in the entire film yet somehow potrayed everything so perfectly. And let's not forget QUEEN Park Bo Young, cause she deserves sooo much love for her character. It is absolutely NOTHING like Twilight so I really don't understand the comparisons, and all the critical acclaim it received (one of the few films with a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes) is well deserved. It's both heart warming and heart breaking at once.

9. Strong Woman Do Bong Soon
Korean Drama - 2017, 16 episodes
Gotta give a shout out the the show that got me into kdramas in the first place. It's just so cute and fuzzy and makes me happy just thinking about it. Plus the chemistry between Park-Park Couple is Perfect!

10. Alias: Healer
Korean Drama - 2014, 20 episodes
I really can't stop comparing this to K2 because both are Ji Chang Wook Dramas that I really can't separate from one another anymore, not because they are not distinct but more because I watched them back to back. I liked Ji Chang Wooks character better in K2 but I loved the overall story of Healer more. Ji Chang Wook really is an action and rom com King. The action sequences were just so well done that I wanted to punch someone after watching them and every time he looked at the FL (personally think the chemistry in Healer was better, but K2 is still nice) I almost got a cavity cause of how sweet it was. Both are wonderful!
