I've changed religions, Mom. I worship at the shrine of Chen Xiao and Liu Yi Fei now.
I thought this was one of the most well-done productions since The Story of MingLan. The chemistry between the two leads WAS ON FIRE!!! The dialogue was witty and natural; the story, interesting; the costumes, beautiful; the comedy, hilarious (despite being a little slap-stick at times); the characters, complex; and the ending?! You'll have to watch it, hehe. My only complaint is that the ending felt a tad rushed, but as it was capped at 40 episodes, I was amazed at how complete and satisfying the resolution turned out to be. (Oh wait, that's a lie. There was a song I really didn't like, but THAT'S IT!) It was an amazing piece of screen writing and careful plot development, very well-paced within it's given timeframe.I heard that this was based off an opera, not a book. This made me even more impressed with the director and the screenwriters. The camera work and production alluded very well to it's operatic/theatrical foundation in meaningful ways and the screenwriters (without the assistance of a novel's dialogue) succeeded in making a script that was natural and touching without stepping outside of it's historical period.
I've become a massive fan of all the actors (the show really let all of the characters shine), especially the Liu Yi Fei who played Zhao Pan'er and Chen Xiao who played Gu Qianfan! If they are in a show, regardless of genre, I'll watch it. Their acting was top-shelf quality.
I've never written a review for a show before. Made an account just to write this one because I couldn't believe the rating was still at an 8.5 since the start of the show. If you loved The Story of MingLan, Eternal Love, Ancient Love Poetry, Royal Nirvana, Rise of the Phoenixes, Blue Whisper, and the like - you'll love this show.

A beautiful, action filled story of second chances at love and life . . . truly transcends its budgetThis story has a strong point of view as it follows three women from their more rural hometown into the capital city. All have lost, but they come together to remake themselves on the backs of their considerable talent. There's plenty of romance, but the romance does fade to a secondary plot as it wears on. Technically, many plot lines are just dropped, but I enjoyed the plots that remained so much I hardly noticed.
The three 'sisters' are all strong, endearing actors and show some pure brilliance. The male leads are less strong. But, the main couple have a fun compatibility as they slide from dislike, to teasing, to him falling clearly and deeply first. In the second half, however, Chen Xiao's storylines start disappearing, and he literally spends strings of episodes off screen or in a coma and truly becomes a bit of a wooden blockhead.
One piece of ornamental music was very haunting: slowing the pace of the show down so that Zhao Pan Er seems suspended in time. Also, when Song Yinzhang first plays the pippa revenge song, it was so striking and cinematic, that I started looking up pippa music, and that music was such a well-done turning point for the character.
A few scenes really stand out to rewatch: there's these moments where the joy of being alive, even in very difficult times shines through, and in the end I was really sorry to leave this universe behind.
I grade on other criteria:
Complex Themes: 10
We all deserve second chances and the chance to thrive throughout our lives- women just as much as anyone else. Living a life without regret, requires staring reality in the face. Suffering comes from an inability to accept and adapt to reality. Bad luck can strike more than once in a lifetime. Found families can provide comfort where biological families are gone or lacking. Always prepare for the worst and be careful of those who makes easy promises.
Character Growth/Complex Characters: 8.5
Song Yinzhang displays the most character growth going from someone who is timid and looking for a rescuer, to standing firmly on her own two feet. Zhao Pan Er more gains complexity with time then truly transforms, and credit to the writers all of the top 10 featured characters to do grow quite a bit. A point off for a cartoonish villain and the half baked court adviser villains.
Complex Female Characters/Relationships:9.5
It's a true joy to see fully fleshed out women in their complexity pursuing ambition and friendship and the good life together. It was perhaps a tad too idyllic, but I didn't mind.
Cinematography/Production Values: 8.5
Really punches above its weight. There was very beautiful cinematic work in scenes that really stick with you changes in pacing and lighting and moving from wide angles to close ups. More creative than shows with double the budget.

A Quality Watch
As of episode 20, these are my thoughts:High-quality drama with excellent writing, good pacing, exciting plots, positive female roles, gorgeous visuals, top-tier production, and beautiful cinematography. The smart female lead and the warm, supportive female friendships surrounding her make this drama a delight. The way the women overcome mistreatment, misfortune, and injustice is moving. Their strength—inspiring. The tension that builds as the male lead navigates his precarious position as a double agent fighting corruption keeps the drama from becoming estrogen-overload. Action, romance, intrigue—something for everyone.
The slow-burn romance between the lead couple is one of most healthy and healing relationships I’ve seen (at least, as of episode 20). Of course, our male lead is still hiding some key details about himself because of the nature of his work; but, they are still beautiful to watch because of their excellent communication. They don’t allow misunderstandings to drag on too long. She earnestly explains her fears and worries instead of expecting him to read her mind. The male lead truly tries to understand his lady’s vicissitudes, goals, aspirations, and needs. He provides her the emotional security a woman desires and supports her in her endeavors. Their kisses are swoon-worthy and heart-fluttering, yet tastefully done.
Overall, a quality watch thus far!

SO BORING :(
I was shocked to see so many good reviews. Did we watch the same show??The romance wasn’t that romantic. The first half was more interesting with them having underlying feelings for one another but their status would be questionable because of her background. After that, yeesh. The kisses were terrible and to be honest, GXF was like two different people. He’s the “Living Devil”- ruthless and merciless. But with her he’s like a puppy and trying to be comical... doesn’t quite match.
All the politics and power struggle - I did not even bother to watch. It was ff all the way. The other couples- boring. The comedy- boring. Music- boring. Sure yes- three women speaking up, fending for themselves, being successful in their careers etc... maybe it could have been better with 20 episodes? ;)
From Epi 21 I skipped to 26-27.. then to 40. Haha... just wanted to see the end. Even skipping that many episodes, I can still understand the final episode. Goes to show how much they dragged out the storyline. If you’re looking for a good historical drama, I would recommend Who Rules The World. That was really good:)

MUST WATCH: pretty people, flawless acting, MAKES LOGICAL SENSE!!
The production quality is so good! The song dynasty hair and clothes are elegant; you can see that there is a lot of effort put into the visuals. They are so good at using the props for better camera work. Everyone is so good looking and I can't find flaws in the acting. The chemistry between the main leads is phenomenal; it doesn't look like they are acting in love but are actually in love. My favorite part is the story makes logical sense! There are no juicy tropes or cringy scenes; it just shows the struggles of actual humans and how to story is told is so realistic. The main leads don't just suddenly fall in love for no reason but there is the actual build-up that leads to them falling in love. The story doesn't just make a smooth path for the male and female leads to walk on, but there are ups and downs!! A drama with the combination of such pretty people, flawless acting, and JUST MAKING SENSE, is so hard to find; but, this drama just gets what the audience wants!!!!!!Considerați utilă această recenzie?

BAD EDITING skip alot of scene but always flashback a same scene for 3 4 times , disturbing background music moreover they don't do dubbing making the dialogue not clear what they said, very annoying ,, a bunch of stupid person do stupid things, useless problem!
the tradition of the song dynasty might be quite good, because I don't very understand , but I quite enjoy it , and feel the atmosphere of a song dynasty in it ,and just it can be appreciated
Between couples, can say that there is no long misunderstanding that becomes an obstacle but the problem in this story is absolutely unnecessary.
the problem is not clear how it happened and there is no clear explanation, does not have a good plot
from the start they searching for a painting but in these 40 episodes, NEVER EVEN SHOWED HOW THE PAINTING WAS, THIS IS DRAMA NOT RADIO! NOT STORYTELLING
SHOW! SHOW THIS TO WATCHER! EVEN ONCE!
the editing was very bad, they skipped a lot of scenes, the more eps I watched I even felt like there was a scene that was skipped, because the problem happened so suddenly and feel very absurd
To be honest, the acting of leads are sometimes really euhh,, when they romance scene i feel weird, compared to LEAD I prefer support couole, more natural, the plot atmosphere for FL is very natural but as an old artist, the standard of acting should not be like this ,i dont get any feeling from her acting with ML, the ML acting too,, the support cast more attractive
STUPID PERSON,DO STUPID THINGS
1. ouyangxu, being a scholar with his stupid brain? ,do alot of stupid thing, he report the queen but he dare to ask queen for help
2. queen,, she help ouyang but harming who that want to help her?!
3. king, he know the queen ambision, but he purposely not make a crownprince?! ,, ep 35 he ask leijing to investigate the truth about what zhao pan er said secretly and dont let 皇城司 know, but LEIJING ALSO THE PART OF 皇城司
## # a skip scene that why i said bad edititing
1. ep 14 , when yuzhongquan know about xiao and gu but not showing even once when and from where he know
2. ep 15, zhao pan er do many things bug nothing they show !
3. ep 17, from where gaohui nanny know about ouyang and zhao?!
4. ep 21,, nothing they show but shuddenly said ge zhaodi mistreated his mother at the port?
5. ep 23, 41:25,,, qimu and GU just had a secret meet, but while talking to chenlian, gu noticed an oddity that wasn't shown in the story, saying that it has a relationship with the duke An, should it be? even though only need to add a few seconds about that scene, should skip it?
###absurd thing
1. ep 3,, the ship has sailed for more than 1 day but sunsanniang who jumps into the river with a tree trunk can floating near the ship?
2. ep 4, open the iron-chained gate with just one pull, and not damage the door handle ring which is thinner than the chain, and the chain was broke?
### question
1. what happen with yinzhang's sister? pan er always said she death because of her,, but not explain why
2. This drama begins with an investigation of the painting, but until the end there is no conclusion regarding the mastermind
3. yu zhong guan have a grudge with gu but why? no was told what the problem was?
4. what happen with zifang? sun san niang's son? he is not an orphan, he has a father and stepmother, but only said that his money was cheated without saying what happened to his father and stepmother

girlbossing their way into being considered a feminist show lmao
this show definitely received a lot of hype and was often recommended to me as well for being a 'feminist' show, though i think it ultimately fell quite flat for me in regards to that. i wouldn't even be able to say that i felt it explored the plight of 'jianji' in the song dynasty particularly well, much less feminism. what it IS is fluffy, generally light hearted, cute romances and sisterly bonding, which is also p good and enjoyable.one of the strong points of this show is how it presents the lives of common people in the song dynasty, the beauty and art in every day life is extremely nice and refreshing. As opposed to how most shows tend to focus on the lives of the imperial family, or on nobility, it's very nice to be amongst normal business people and scholars. the sets, design, costuming and specific little details about every day life feel very rich and enjoyable. i love the slide of life vibe, and seeing the tea house and then the restaurant, i LOVE chi pan and i think he's absolutely adorable and SO funny. this show shines when it's about the average every day trials and tribulations of common people, such as the squabbles with chi pan, the competition the tea house has to enter with the other tea shops, creating the flower moon banquet, etc. etc. and this show is at its worst when trying to talk about the political issues and frankly anything to do w gu qianfan's storyline. i've seen countless palace intrigue and court drama that get all of the plotting down to an art... what's the point of even trying if you can't follow through with it and create an intriguing plot? the court drama stuff honestly just didn't really make that much sense with the rest of the show and ultimately didn't really amount to anything? like im not sure why any of it mattered, because none of it really even had anything to do with gu qianfan's character anyway. he starts out a good but hard man who hates and doesn't trust his dad and ends basically exactly the same. not sure what was the point of all of this other than to make him seem complex, but there was no complexity actually written. his dad is shitty and can't be trusted, even if he loves qianfan, so nothing matters, these relationship dynamics don't change? qianfan still hates him and doesn't want anything to do with him by the end? honestly it all just feels v pointless and everything hard that qianfan goes through seems to be for the purpose of creating the aesthetic of a brutal, hard man who tortures others without batting an eye, while not actually giving a shit about him as a character, or caring about the story of this kind of violent brutal man? you can always tell when the writers care or not and i find it overwhelmingly clear that the writers did not give a shit about him. what matters is the dichotomy of how cruel and brutal he can be, how much pain he can endure, and then how sweet and cute he is with pan'er. they just wanted a man who can kill his best friend in one scene, and in the next he can bashfully blush and flirt w pan'er. im totally good w this duality, i just wish that the writing could actually back it up and make me feel anything for him and his storyline!
it's extremely clear that the only characters the writer actually cares abt are zhao pan'er, song yinzhang, and sun sanniang. and there's nothing wrong w that! i just wish we didn't have to waste any time at all on qianfan and his absolutely pointless storyline that goes nowhere!! the most stand out scenes in the whole show to me are the ones that focus on pan'er's character and how she's been shaped by being a jianji, and how she's been hurt, in particular the convo she has w sanniang about worrying about whether or not qianfan likes her, as well as the one about how much of a workaholic she is (which i found extremely relatable hahaha). pan'er is definitely the most well developed character of the series, but even so i still wanted more? i feel like more could've been said with this character and her arc could've been better developed. like she spends so much energy trying to prove herself as an outstanding person worthy of value who can't be bullied or hurt and by the end i still don't know how much she actually has truly accepted herself?
the relationship between pan'er and qianfan is also one of the highlights of the show! liu yifei is great and breathes a specific natural, easy life into the character, and the banter and flirting between the two of them is *chefs kiss* it's rare that i like something specifically for the way the romance is portrayed, but they just have wonderful chemistry! their relationship feels very fresh, very cute, without a lot of the usual silly tropes in romantic dramas, and it's absolutely very modern lmao. i like that chen xiao isn't the usual type of idol beauty, and in fact i wouldn't consider him particularly handsome at all LMAO but that's a good thing! i also think their very first conflict as an official couple was really well done. i was already annoyed at pan'er assuming the worst of qianfan after overhearing him and i thought it was going to be bad writing, but then qianfan called her out on it!! and it made sense why she would react that way once they discussed it and they solved it like adults. this is the sort of relationship writing that i really enjoy and want to see. i had high hopes after seeing that scene, however all was dashed when their major conflict appeared like 3/4 of the way thru the show which was based NOT on any sort of real conflict between their characters, like a clashing of values or personalities, but because of a stupid ass information reveal that doesn't hold any weight and qianfan RUNNING AWAY for like 8 episodes because he 'couldn't face her'??? this is some lazy ass writing if i've ever seen it. give me a real fight, don't give me information reveals that have to do w characters who dont reflect the actions and decisions of the main couple!! don't give me misunderstandings and lack of communication!! honestly why the hell is qianfan doing this to her when he knows how much she's been hurt by shitty men tossing her aside!! just write her a letter or get chen lian to tell her he cant talk rn he's processing or smth MY GOD. i hate this sort of meaningless conflict more than anything else in this series, it's conflict for the sake of conflict, made by lazy writers forcing it to happen. very lame and disappointing typical c-drama shit, ESPECIALLY the whole 'my dad killed your dad so we can't be together.' like that is simply not a real reason you can't work out especially when gu qianfan hates his dad lol and it's especially not a reason that the audience would find any stakes in, any real side to take, with 0 complexity for either of the characters.
ok onto the 'feminism'.......... i think that personally i just do not consider girlboss narratives the height of feminism, nor do they say anything interesting or transgressive. like okay women can succeed and be business owners? obviously? for me to respect a work as feminist is if they actually do something transgressive, but this show is LESS progressive than the work it's adapted from where pan'er and yinzhang are actually sex workers. it's extremely easy to make a show with agreeable politics if its characters are just talented dancers and musicians who are pariahs for it. like, pan'er, yinzhang, and sanniang are all remarkable, talented, hard working women who are smart, beautiful, morally pure, capable and basically nothing short of perfect. pan'er isn't even born a jianji, she's the daughter of a military official and comes from a noble and distinguished background that values the arts! and they have to constantly remind you of this to say that the system is fucked, not that it's wrong for just existing anyway! nothing about them actually challenges audience perception of who is deserving of being treated with value by society, which is also disappointing because it's such a modern show. and even in a historical context i don't think the show truly explores the plight of the jianji and the way they are oppressed in society, other than how it has affected yinzhang and pan'er's characters. like?? i don't feel like i actually know how hard it is to be a jianji, other than generally being looked down upon. give me actual beggars and prostitutes? society is still fucked for treating them like shit, it doesn't only matter if it's beautiful, perfect and talented women like pan'er. the amount of times the main characters have to say they're better than sex workers and that 'they're treated like prostitutes and beggars'... girl guess what they should be treated with respect too!!! give me girls who are ugly or fat or disabled or actually gender nonconforming(EXTREMELY disappointed that zhaodi ends the series in girl clothes) or even just girls who aren't perfectly talented and capable! show me that they have value and deserve respect too! but no china isn't ready for that!!!!! it's just very frustrating after a certain point to see such a focus on selling the show as feminist, to see pan'er and co. fighting SO hard against and SO obsessed w their caste and patriarchy when it can only deliver the most tepid girl power girlboss message. it's an extremely modern show w modern characters and relationships with an aesthetic historical background, so it's very frustrating that instead of having modern day struggles against patriarchy, they have historical struggles against the historical caste system that put musicians and performers and craftspeople as the lowest class. all of these people are easily given respect in modern day times! i think shen ruzhuo was the most interesting part in the show in terms of showing misogyny, and his nonstop 'nice guy' act while continuously guilting, pressuring and overriding yinzhang's boundaries was well done. i really wish that if the show is here to talk about feminism that there was more of this! show me more of how insidious patriarchy is in the average everyday, it doesn't have to just be tying a girl up to a tree and beating her! i guess i do have v high expectations of the media i consider feminist, and sometimes when i'm reminded of just how bad patriarchy is, and how for some people, even this show is still doing something good or changing the way they think, im more able to accept it. it's just hard for me personally to enjoy any of those aspects of this show. i will say though, that female friendship and solidarity were really nice throughout the show, and the real strength of these feminist values. like there basically isn't a single Real female villain, and especially none who are acting in the interest of their love for a man. which is ACTUALLY new and revolutionary for c-drama. i love that gao hui was set up to be a conniving scheming villain, and then she turned out to be totally normal and becomes friends with pan'er. zhang haohao is jealous of yinzhang, but she still puts that aside to warn her against the rapist. gao hui's nainiang is scheming and murderous but because she loves gao hui. and one of the times that did actually kind of get me emotionally was at the end when the empress comes in, and she learns that pan'er deceived the emperor for her, just because she's a woman like her who was once a jianji. that was a really nice moment of solidarity, between an average, everyday woman and the most powerful woman in the nation, and it really drives home the show's message about the power of friendship and solidarity between women.
ultimately this show is quite mid to good for me. it's enjoyable and fluffy, the romances are sweet and the characters are all pretty cute and funny. some moments are quite well written and striking. but ultimately it still falls flat in terms of any sort of complex character writing, nor does it say anything that would be particularly transgressive to modern society as a 'feminist' show.

A masterpiece created by women - There is great pride is sisterhood.
THIS DRAMA IS A MUST-WATCH.It's the first drama I've watched where I've seen female solidarity. It is as easy as it is unrealistic and selfish to make women bite each other's heads off because of a man as usually done in dramas. Where sisterhood is treated as a myth and women only exist to be evil to each other. This drama respected women, it didn't demean us. The drama showed that women have suffered for centuries at the hands of the patriarchy, and we are still suffering till now. It shows female solidarity at its finest.
When I started this drama, this statement is what came to mind, “In a world where we have no status, all we want to do is live in peace, can they not still offer us that?”
Halfway into the drama, the answer to my question was "no, they can't"
and at the end of the drama, my answer is, "there is hope for us. "
Story
The story of three strong independent women who suffered at the hands of men who were supposed to be their protectors. No matter the obstacle they faced, no matter the conflicts, they always remembered their sisterhood and their bond. Along the way, they meet good men and women who formed friendships and romantic relationships with them. They meet people who respect them and cherish them. And for everyone who stepped on their pride, they fought back tenfold without hesitation. they fought for justice, their reputations, and for their futures.
Characters,
Character development was impeccable. this is the first drama where i didn't see a single bit of conflict between women. people need to understand that women can exist in this world without hating each other because of men, and this was portrayed by the characters of Song Linzhang, Gao Hui, the empress, and the famous singer. They had so much potential to be the worst, but they weren't. they thought for themselves, and they developed beautifully.
Zhao Pan'er was a beautiful, strong, and talented woman who advanced bravely in every situation. though beaten down many times, with the help of her sisters and her lover, she always stood up again.
Sunsaniang is the epitome of motherly love. who cared so much about everyone around her. she was the string that tied their sisterhood together and despite her husband and son's betrayal, she never gave up on herself.
song lin zhang, the most complex of the three, who had the greatest potential to derail, showed us that making mistakes doesn't mean you cannot be redeemed. as the youngest of the three, she was naive and innocent. but after suffering at the hands of men, she realised that only her sisters can give her the love and respect she desperately craved. and she earned both not just from her sisters, but from the public, because of her impeccable talent.
Gu Qian Fan stood his ground, he loved unconditionally, he existed for her, and he loved her so much. He was a good man. he had his shortcomings and insecurities, and he was lost and in the dark. but a shining light came and brightened his path as he said to his father. Zhao Pan'er, his confidante and a woman he will always respect. he is a man who deserves respect.
all other characters including Zhao di, Chen Lian, Chi pan and his subordinates, Scholar du, the emperor, the empress, and Gao hui did amazing jobs. Ouyang xu was perfectly evil. actor did a great job.
the cinematography of this drama was impeccable. the art, the dancing, the music, and that performance in ep 32 was to die for.
a beautiful drama, with a beautiful ending and an important story. I've ranted so much because I love it too much. Truly a masterpiece and must watch for everyone.

Finally
Just perfect. Its been decades since I had NOTHING to complain on a story, but quite a lot to praise. I kinda want to leave my review at that but I'll add a little more. All actors and actresses do a great job. Each character has a thought out backstory and a goal/behaviour that makes sense with that past/present. The main couple have chemistry, good scenes and potentially one of your fav CPs in fiction. All romances are different and real, without "drama love" being at all the series's focus - I would even say it doesn't really have romantic drama, since everything that happens is realistic. Realistic situations, realistic feelings, realisitc assumptions, for each character in the couple to have.
But the strongest point in this cdrama (but it's really all connected), it is the women. How every woman suffers in this time in spite of their position (from a pariah to an empress), chooses paths (or has to go along with a man's plan) and has to be extremely strong in different ways - and how they know what the other goes through.
It shows the sexism in all aspects and a true feminism, that isn't the woman being physically strong as so many other shows do. I don't know what's so hard about doing a commentary on this subject, but luckly they did it right. And it's not the bare minimum, on the nose, exaggerated nor has the goal to make the audience pity them. Geez, finally.

Wonderfully refreshing. Must watch it!
This drama, in terms of quality, is as good as Nirvana in Fire or Joy of Life and it comes with an additional bonus: a lot of romance. The acting is superb. The characters are interesting, convincing, mature. The female characters have normal, not baby-like, silly voices. There is no sickening cuteness. No 'accidental' kissing by 'accidentally' falling on top of each other. No 'accidental' drowning scenes.I have watched 19 episodes and never once felt like fast forwarding. Chinese dramas often follow a particular pattern where the story line is predictable, drags on, viewers are exposed to cuteness overload, lots of implausible and stupid situations that don't make sense, countless 'misunderstandings' between the main characters.... to name a few. None of this in this drama! So refreshing! So well paced!
The chemistry between the main leads is amazing. Real adult-like flirting, witty, with a good amount of suspension.
Comic scenes are actually funny. Not idiotic.
On top of that fantastic visuals. The characters are gorgeous, beautiful, with just the right amount of make-up. Beautiful clothing, colours, ost...
A real gem!

Nostalgic, lowkey, and enjoyable
[UNEDITED] Review 3.5/5Liu Yifei is love!
Somewhat different from your normal drama. This show takes an introspective look into the lives of common people in ancient times trying to make it in the world. The story scope of this drama doesn't follow the love story of gods through several lifetimes or take place over the span of thousands of years, or even the royalty of courtly politics, but of three humble female commoners and young men who want to make a name for themselves and gain titles.
The show is enjoyable because it has nostalgia of a young person's show in themes of friendship, adventure, and "leveling-up", while also having a mysterious element of every person's fantasy of coming from a special background and being someone special, and a dabble of the intensity of fighting scenes, schemes, and a little dose of politics. It has something for everyone.
Refreshingly different, while quality in its focus and small scope, the show follows the journey and growth of Zhao Pan'er as she struggles against social status and societal standards to make a place for herself in the world. She leads her two sister-best friends to the capital where they are aided by Gu Qianfan to open their own business and succeed in a man's world. It's a quaint story about about women independence, friendship, and the makings of a good relationship.
Another way it can be taken is---there is no story. It's a nice show that has many elements told through three different perspectives with three different women's situations (every trope and element is thrown in there), while having nice friendship bonds (enjoy the good-old nostalgic adventure build-yourself-from-scratch vibe). The story is lowkey and laid-back while somewhat interesting so it's nice to pass the time.
Sidenote: The producers bragged about being the show with the most outfits which is funny because the outfits are barely different that I didn't notice they were changing. Good effort though. I support the motive if this will start a trend among shows of creating more looks for their characters albeit without much characterization.
