In the 10th instalment of Rui Yoshida's Hokkaido Port Town Tour, we visit Mori Town, home of the famous ikameshi (squid rice)! To the north is Funka Bay, a treasure trove of seafood. To the east is the lush green of Mount Komagatake. In search of delicious sake and snacks, bar poet Rui Yoshida wanders around the town of Mori on the peninsula of Tokushima. He will be accompanied by HBC announcer Kanako Muroya. This time, too, there were lots of moving moments! It was a wonderful trip. Mori is famous for this. The "ikameshi" is one of the most popular ekiben (station lunch) in Japan. It is a simple dish of small squid stuffed with white rice and glutinous rice and cooked. The handmade taste has not changed since its launch in 1941. It is soft even when cold, but since we were there, we decided to taste freshly made "ikameshi" at the port. They were also treated to "scallop kombu fried tofu pouches," a unique taste of Mori Town that was devised by the fishermen's mothers. After satisfying their appetites, the two headed to the foot of Mount Kobagatake to enjoy the great outdoors. Mount Komagatake, surrounded by bright blue skies and lush greenery, they went horse trekking. So, with Mt. Komagatake in the background, we composed a "haiku" on horseback. How did it turn out? In the evening, we had a drink at a tavern popular among the locals. The owner's business card reads "Eating Aquarium". Turning our attention to the counter, we saw an aquarium full of fresh fish and shellfish! On this particular day, conger eel was recommended, so I had it prepared as tempura, which was sliced and deep-fried on the spot. Both Rui and Ana Muroya were impressed by the deliciousness of the tempura, and the french fries, made with potatoes that have been fermented for a year, were also superb. Of course, the impromptu " drinking friendship party" was a great success again this evening. (Source: Japanese = hbc.co.jp || Translation = iniquitous at MyDramaList)
