A Masterpiece of Romance and Fantasy: "Lovely Runner" Review

I started watching this drama because the premise seemed intriguing. Written by the same screenwriter behind "True Beauty" and starring Kim Hye Yoon, whose talent I appreciated in "Extraordinary You," I didn't have high expectations; I anticipated something similar to those other dramas. However, now that I've finished it, I can confidently say that it not only met but far exceeded my expectations in every category, surpassing even my wildest imagination.

Story

What truly distinguishes this drama from other romcom, time-slip, and fantasy series is how the story unfolds over its 16 episodes. By weaving together multiple timelines, the narrative offers characters various meet-cutes, challenging situations, delightful montages, and enlightening moments, keeping viewers engaged and intrigued throughout. Unlike other romcoms that introduce a random killer midway, "Lovely Runner’s" entire storyline revolves around the villain's actions affecting the main characters, seamlessly integrating with the plot. Additionally, the writer ensures a balanced mix of elements in each episode, preventing viewers from enduring lengthy stretches of heavy plot centered solely on the killer. The pacing was executed perfectly, ensuring viewers neither felt rushed nor bored. Every scene was given just the right amount of time, culminating in a fully satisfying happy ending in the final two episodes.

Characters

All the characters were well-crafted, with even the majority of the supporting cast being three-dimensional. Unlike many other romcoms, where the comedic burden often falls solely on the actress and a few sidekicks, this drama distributes the humor evenly. Both the male and female leads, as well as the supporting characters, share an equal amount of comedic scenes.

Ryu Seon Jae: Who can resist falling in love with this character? He loves the main lead unconditionally and is willing to sacrifice his life for her time and again. Loyal, brave, and innocent (as his father says, "pure as oxygen"), he embodies all these qualities beautifully.

Im Sol: It's impossible not to cheer for our heroine as she bulldozes through every obstacle to rescue her love. She is loud, sweet, and a force to be reckoned with. Most importantly, she is strong; despite has lived with a disability, she faced a killer without fear, confronting the villain head-on to protect what she loves.

Kim Tae Sung: A second male lead who is not annoying or clingy, but a reliable friend to our main leads. It would be even nicer to know a little bit of his backstory.

Baek In Hyuk: A fantastic sidekick, always ready to deliver the best funny moments.

Acting

Byeon Woo Seok: To be honest, I've only seen him in "Record of Youth," but I fast-forwarded through 70% of that drama. Now, I question why I wasn't aware of this great actor earlier. His performance in this drama was exceptional. He effortlessly transforms from a 19-year-old high schooler to a 34-year-old idol. His expressions were so precise that you could feel the joy, sadness, longing, and countless moments of embarrassment. Additionally, his portrayal of an idol was incredibly believable, and he sang the drama's OSTs beautifully.

Kim Hye Yoon: It's difficult to distinguish Kim Hye Yoon from her character Im Sol because her performance was so convincing. What I love most about Kim Hye Yoon is her natural, sincere, and unpretentious demeanor. When she acts cute, it never comes off as annoying due to her genuine charm. When she portrays sadness, you can't help but want to cry along with her, and since she cried quite often in this drama, it was hard not to reach for the tissue box. When she passionately sings as a kpop fan, she perfectly embodies the fervor of someone you'd find at a concert.

Final thoughts

This exceptional drama sets a new benchmark for all romcoms, time-slip stories, and fantasy genres. The "Lovely Runner" team's outstanding efforts—from the director, screenwriter, and casting director to the editor, sound crew, and actors—deserve high praise. They have truly outdone themselves.

i' loved it.
All of the scene from the first episode until the end is Grandma's POV (point of view). Im Sol is the younger self of Grandma.
Have you ever wonder, why does grandma acting so strange?
1. She's been keeping Sunjae's watch
2. She has dementia (makakalimutin) but she didn't forget everything that happened from the past up to the future.
3. She remembered that Im Sol can't walk kahit pa naka time travel sila that time.
4. On episode 14, she called sunjae as "husband" so it's possible that sunjae is actually her husband when she's younger.
5. Episode 14, she knows that Sol misses Sunjae that's the reason why grandma went to the restaurant owned by Sunjae's father.

갑작스러운 소나기가 내 머릿속에서 조용히 놀고 있어 <3 <3 <3

이제 이 시청을 마쳤으므로 나는 이미 이것에 대해 분리 불안을 느끼고 있으며 분명히 몇 주 동안 이런 기분을 느낄 것입니다. 제가 마지막으로 한국 드라마에 푹 빠진 것은 2016~2017년으로, 한국 드라마는 정말 완벽해서 속속 시청할 수 있었습니다. 한국 드라마가 전성기인 때다.

요즘에는 하나를 끝내는 것이 정말 어렵습니다. 목록에 대기 중인 드라마가 너무 많아서 끝낼 동기를 찾을 수 없는 것 같지만 이것이 왔고 러블리 러너는 정말 좋은 한국 드라마에 대한 나의 갈망을 끝냈습니다. 이 드라마는 나에게 또 한 번 같은 느낌을 줬고, 매 회마다 느끼는 스릴과 설렘이 단 하루라도 보고 싶게 만들었다. 제가 오랫동안 갈망해왔던 걸작입니다.

선재려고 하지만 가장 인기 있는 스트리밍 앱에는 없고 평점도 가장 높지 않을 수 있지만 그 인기와 나 같은 팬들이 얼마나 호평을 받고 있는지 확실히 알 수 있습니다. 만일 그들이 콘서트를 열기로 결정했다면 티켓이 매진될 것이라고 장담합니다. 노래와 영상미가 일품이다. 이 드라마는 전혀 과대평가되지 않았고, 만점 이상의 평가를 받을 만하다. 나는 아직 이것을 놓아줄 준비가 되지 않았습니다.

the most beautiful kdrama i have ever seen

nunca voy a olvidar este kdrama. es lo más lindo que hay en el mundo.
la historia es maravillosa y está muy bien desarrollada, además la química que tienen los actores es increíble, son de los que te hacen sentir que la historia atraviesa la pantalla y te llega de una manera increíble.
por no mencionar también el soundtrack??? o sea esas canciones SON DEMASIADO BONITAS, todas todas.
definitivamente es una serie que le recomendaría a cualquier persona, todos deberían darle una oportunidad. no se arrepentirán ?

I enjoyed watching this in general but therw are some things I don't like :(. First off, does SunJae actually commit after seeing Sol for the first time in years or is it Kim YoungSoo once again? I mean he sees his lifelong crush after so long, plus she looks happy so why would he do that? also I really don't like how everyone else forgot :(( like sunjae, inhyuk and taesoong's friendship was so nice to watch. it really saddens me honestly. overall, it was a good watch, and im saying this as a person who doesn't really watch time travel and supernatural shows and dramas

A mágica de poder voltar no tempo....

Drama voltado para uma comédia romântica fofa, era realmente o que eu estava esperando de Lovely Runner. Sei que esse drama ficou bastante conhecido e falado nas redes sociais, acredito que principalmente pelos atores principais e a história (idol x fã). Porém, teve algo que eu não esperava nesse drama que foi a questão de transformar o ''suíc*dio'' do cantor em um assassinato, não necessariamente acredito que já estava planejado assim principalmente depois de ver todo o backlash que a companhia que produziu o drama teve, mas em si não achei algo ruim, só inusitado. Eu acharia importante eles abordarem mais sobre saúde mental, mas estamos falando da Coréia do Sul né...

No começo eu entendia todo tipo de sentimento que a Im Sol teve depois do seu acidente mas também super entendi o motivo dela ter se tornado fã. Porém nos últimos episódios onde ela começa a sempre voltar ao tempo para fazer ele esquecer tudo,pois acreditava que era o motivo de sua morte me deixou um pouco irritada, ela não poderia pensar mais? Tentar mais? Explicar para ele o que estava acontecendo? Até por que.... Ele se lembrou de tudo que ela fez voltando no tempo, certo?

Tirando alguns furos na história posso dizer que realmente é um drama bom, e foi meu primeiro drama onde o Byeon Woo Seok é principal e eu nunca assisti muitos dos trabalhos dele, agora entendi o motivo da sua febre na Coréia ser tão grande. E a nossa querida Kim Hye Yoon, que conseguiu me fazer sentir todas as emoções dela enquanto chorava? Quando pesquisei vi que ela teve que chorar na gravação de todos os episódios, ou seja quase 8 meses de gravação chorando direto... Uma triz fenomenal!

Esse drama te faz ter pensamentos leves e feliz, principalmente que a maioria dos episódios tem uma parte de comédia para tentar ser o alívio cómico e realmente funciona.

Gostaria realmente de ver um trabalho dos atores principais novamente, pois achei que eles tem bastante química e uma amizade forte. Se eu fosse algum produtor ou diretor de dramas na Coréia já pensava em algum projeto para os dois pois vai seria algo GRANDE.

Um aspecto que eu gostaria que tivessem explorado mais seria o romance deles. Senti que o drama ficou bastante na conquista do que eles juntos em sí, até entendo por que ela sempre voltava no tempo mas esse não era o intuito do drama, o romance?

Porém, enfim. Estou feliz com o drama e ele acabou de entrar na minha lista de favoritos, super recomendo.

Casting is everything!

I'm a sucker for rom-com stuff, so, of course, I enjoyed this one. But I do have to admit that the best thing about this kdrama is the casting choices. I can just imagine that I wouldn't be as invested in this kdrama had they chosen other actors. Kudos to the actors because they did such an amazing job.
There were definitely lapses when it came to the plot. The taxi driver killer was so one-dimensional, in my opinion. We didn't have that much information on him aside from being a serial killer; he barely even talked. He was basically just there as an obstacle for the leads, nothing else. Speaking of the leads, I wish they gave them more substance, you know? I like them together, and I'm glad that BWS and KHY's chemistry had me wanting more, but their lives basically revolved around one another. Almost all of Sol's and Sun-jae's choices had something to do with each other.
Despite all that, I still quite enjoyed the drama. I don't consider this the best kdrama by any means, but it's somewhat of a feel-good and filler kdrama with a side of serial killer for me, and I enjoyed that.
