So so good!!!!! this drama had such a good concept and actually was very creative and interesting, something you don’t see much in kdramas nowadays. the superpowers part and stuff wasn’t always super serious but also not too exaggerated either! ofc some things kinda don’t make sense but it’s a DRAMA!! there’s no need to think that much!!
this was honestly a masterpiece in terms of entertainment, the main story was very very good but so were the side character stories!! it was never boring in terms of that.

the only “”issue”” i personally had was the romance, i know this is more focused on the whole superpowers and entire family thing but idk it didn’t feel like they actually romantically liked each other??? idk they looked good kissing but it all felt so fast so i didn’t feel anything when they would be together LMAO (probably a me issue)

wonderful drama

I didn't expect to like this drama this much. It has a great cast, VERY unique premise and interesting and complex relationships between the characters. I like how almost all the characters are morally ambiguous - this is an accurate depiction of real life, in which morality isn't black and white, and every hero doesnt wear a cape and isnt perfect. I liked how even the worst characters (Ji-han aside, we all hate him) could develop and become a better person with the help of others. I think the romance left something to be longed for as it mainly focused on the supernatural connection between the two, which is important but i think there couldve been slightly more in terms of textbook romance, however the plot wasnt frustrating and angsty, and that i applaud since watching a romance that turns angsty mid-drama is like living hell on earth. My main qualm with the plot is the gwi-ju dying and then being brought back into present life by his son arc. Although the ending is good, it felt rushed and i often feel frustrations with dramas which spend more time showing the troubles and then once they resolve them, they leave you with five minutes to enjoy them. This drama did just that, only on the penultimate and final episodes, however. I REALLY loved hyeong-tae and grace's characters, they added a light comedy element to the drama whilst also balancing menacing and comforting personas. What i particularly loved was the scene in the penultimate episode, where the three girls essentially collaborate to destroy jihan and put their positions as frenemies aside. I smiled so much when i saw Dong-hee taking grace through the air and the three rejoicing afterwards - it was really heartwarming. I also enjoyed hyeong-taes soft protective gestures, and the way he made sure to keep everyone safe without their knowledge - this was honestly so sweet. I-nas plotline at school was not really of any interest to me and i found it rather boring and generic, but what i did enjoy was her relationship with gwi-ju becoming better, and her finding a mother figure and a friend in da-hae. This drama was a good watch and i would recommend it to others. Shoutout to choi Gwang-rok and ryu abel, i enjoyed their acting the most.

Good Enough

Korean Drama '' The Atypical Family '' is a family fantasy melodrama.

The story incorporates a lot of elements and blends them all nicely.

The melodrama was just enough to keep things intense and interesting, the romance was cute and slow burn, the family drama was sweet and dramatic, and the family bonds were strong and worked in the drama's favor.

Also, the fantasy element was well handled and the time travel was smoothly explained and didn't overcomplicate things.

The ending, in addition, was unique, but kind of rushed.

Finally, the performances were all enjoyable by everyone in the cast.

So, overall, eight out of ten.

Non capisco l'hype

Sinceramente non capisco come sia potuto piacere così tanto questo titolo. La storia inizia bene ed è molto intrigante tutta via attraversando le varie puntate si notano sempre di più i difetti di quest'opera che a parer mio non è neanche sufficiente. Sebbene abbia comunque apprezzato la caratteristica peculiare cioè di avere dei poteri, non è così per i personaggi e la storia veramente noiosa e vuota. Potere del ML inutile e senza senso, FL che dovrebbe essere una truffatrice e che casualmente di botto si innamora del protagonista, storia d'amore che tra l'altro non ho nemmeno capito poichè i due non possedevano nessun tipo di chimica e l'innamoramento è completamente forzato. Inoltre a parer mio hanno dato troppo screen time a personaggi che onestamente erano completamente inutili come la sorella del ML. Devo proprio ammettere che l'unica cosa che io abbia apprezzato è stata la figlia del ML e il cambiamento del rapporto del padre che avviene grazie a FL. Devo dire di aver apprezzato anche la situazione familiare di FL e di come riusciranno a riandare d'accordo. E' valsa la pena vedere questo titolo? assolutamente no, se cercate qualcosa di veramente bello, non guardatelo.

Estranhamente melancólico e reconfortante

Estranhei muito o começo da história, até a ost era estranha. Mas conforme foi passandos os episódios, me vi rendida, fui ficando cada vez mais envolvida com os personagens e seus dramas.
Gostei muito do casal, e do desenvolvimento deles. Achava todos os poderes meio inúteis, de alguma forma, minha opinião mudou...
Os plots foram de partir o coração. No final, só senti que queria mais, que ficou faltando algo pra fechar o drama com chave de ouro.
Prefiro fechamentos que mostram uma sequência indicando o futuro da maioria dos personagens, como uma despedida, pra não ficar só pra nossa imaginação. Mas eles optaram por algo mais na vibe de Monstros S.A (quem entendeu, entendeu )
o que é legal sim, mas também é bem frustrante. A minha criança inferior sabe bem ?

Wow, such a lack of imagination!

The Atypical Family had so much potential but fell short of lack of imagination. I liked that the family had superpowers but the powers were somewhat obscure and had "no rhyme or reason". It would have been nice if the plot led to the family pulling their powers together nearing the end to solve the main dilemma. It would have been nice if there was some background on why they have powers. It would have been nice if they had explained why the ML can only go back in time to see moments with the FL after his powers mutate. It does explain why they have lost their powers.

A Realistic Story of Heroes With Crack-ups and a Woman who Enters Their Lives to Change Everything

First, Let me say that this is in my top 3 so far this year alongside Queen of Tears and Lovely Runner. This drama is literally so fun from start to finish. It's realistic, well-written and well-directed. It's originally created by Kang Eun Kyeong, who wrote masterpieces like Dr. Romantic and Gyeongseong Creature, written by Joo Hwa Mi, an amazing new writer and directed by Jo Hyun Taek, who also directed masterpieces like SKY Castle and Snowdrop. I dove into this drama with so many expectations and I didn't get disappointed at all. I agree the drama has some plotholes, like the dad caring about his FL more than his daughter, but I don't mean the part where he is depressed. Just to explain because people are complaining that when he was depressed, he didn't care about his daughter at all, depression is not just being very sad and that, it's a serious mental illness in which you want to be isolated most of the time and don't like to socialize with others and depressed parents interact with their children differently like using less emotions. Now, I'm gonna talk about the acting. I'm starting with Chun Woo Hee and Park So Yi because they're the gems of this show. They played their characters so well. From crying scenes to caring-about-each other scenes, they rocked them all. Claudia Kim, Oh Man Seok, Jang Ki Yong, Go Doo Shim, Ryu Abel and others also rocked it. They all did really well. The scene in episode 9 where Gwi Joo figures out I-na's power is so emotional. The two actors did so good in that scene. I also love how awkward the relationship between I-na and Gwi Joo was when he was depressed because it's so realistic. THAT'S how a relationship between a daughter and a depressed father is like. Also, the amount of action thrown in episode 12 is literally so fun. From the theater scene to the fire scene to the last scene, it was all too good.
What a perfect series. It deserves so much hype.

amazing show

I think the atypical family is definitely in my top for 2024 because of the unique storyline and the incredible acting. The ending was perfect, although for some it may come across as too rushed for me it couldn’t have been done better. some parts are still left unknown for us, such as yi na when she is older but I don’t think this show needs a season 2. also to think that it only had 12 episodes, a s2 is very unlikely. I don’t remember being this excited for a show in a long time so that is why I gave it a 9.5/10 (okay so edit it has been almost 2 months and this show is still on my mind everyday, I’m definitely giving it a 10/10 not even lying it was so good)

It was good, different but draggy

This is kinda metaphorical, depression that he can’t remember his happy moments
Can’t sleep so she can’t gain money cuz of stress
Shy that can’t look at people cuz the eyes are the window of the soul
And I guess she was so full of herself that she put herself down

but the execution is a bit too slow, it took me three months to finish, I mean it wasn’t frustrating or bad, but it wasn’t amazing either


So like what I said before, it was symbolic but they could’ve done it so much better

For exam the sister’s story should’ve moved faster, especially since it took her one ep to fully shed the remaining weight, and her whole story was about self love so going back to the cheater was the worst part
and her cuteness with "the uncle" would've been a better focus, she never had to let go of her love or what her ex represented.. so it was a waste of time, instead, they should've shown her falling for "the uncle" , and realizing self love and a good relationship can heal


He was never supposed to save his wife, or his hyung, which is annoyingly sad as it was what controlled years of his life.. so his wife did die because of him, when he was always meant to move on with someone else

everything was “set in stone” even every time he went back it was never a choice


That’s why the end sucked, the thing that hurt the dad all this time was going back in time and getting stuck, and we have the mom go and say “I lost something 5 or welp 18 years ago” and the kid poofs and saves him?
Like how risky was it to have a 5 year old go into that fire for his dad?????

TIME TRAVEL DONE WELL: BEST UNDERRATED 2024 !

i love timetravel\ superpower shows but too often they r not well executed... so let me tell you about this gem as a lover of this genre! no spoilers!

so for 'atypical family', the synopsis looked interesting , about superpower family in modern times... i love a modern time magical universe , but i am almost always disappointed in the weak plots (like the recent destined with you T_T) The bar was already low for me haha!
So... even if the poster looks cringe, EVEN IF THE first episode was absolutely funky and almost incredilous... i gave it a chance...

still not much hope except WAW! we discover layers in this story and the imagery, plot, dialogue , characters and cinematography and ost are alll cherry on cake. every passing minute in the early episodes was brilliantly orchestrated to build an amazing setting. this shows doesn't try to overwhelm the viewer with superfluous drama or impress, its just a brillant world that imposes itself!

WHAT I LOVED!
>all characters are flawed and nuanced (if not crazy, the title 'atypical' fits really well ) and they are all given space in the show!

> main leads really shine in this ! FL is among my fav characters ever now! imperfect but so much growth and nuance, she made me think of the movie 'the travellers wife'

> the superpowers bring great reflections on our own lives. their powers and loosing them are lessons we can appreciate during the show. so much imagery in the show!!

> THE LAWS OF TIMETRAVEL ARE SOLID& consistant ( except one minor detail)

> they brought up free will & predetermined destiny concept very well

>all secondary elements are also very enjoyable.

>nothing was superfluous or looked like a filler plot except the ad placement LOL

> the intruigue reveal did not disappoint!

LESS LIKED:
i really liked all except some writer manipulation to withhold information. don't forget its a show about the seen & unseen, past & future!! most often its done well, but sometimes its a bit much
Also ML often looks like a fool , not that it's a bad thing, (bc it fits with his problem ) but it felt a bit much sometimes.

the attention to detail in the writing and execution shines in every episode. i hope we get to see more of this world!! PLEASE RENEW THIS GEM T_T
