A sport-romance drama that is greater than average

For a Thai Bl, it is quite rare to see a love story centering in a sports genre. A fresh concept to offer for the viewers. At first, I occasionally felt bored from some scenes but fortunately it gets better the more episodes I’ve watched. It started in a cute way and you can really feel the romance between them. The exciting plot development leads me to liking the show and allows me to improve my previous rating from them. The cinematography was enjoyable too. It actually adds a little bit of dramatic approach to the flow of the story and it was a nice visual element to look at. I found it endearing that their uniforms match the color of the bench at the upper viewpoint of the field. The combination of the bright colors is pretty and the design was perfect for a student who majors in physical sport.

The show provided us with three couples to look forward to and each of them has something to offer. I like the flirting stage and the contradictory of every couple; Fah-Thorn has a timid & sweeping start; Aii-Saen possesses the flirty & reserved type of courtship; while Dome-Vee has a bit of complexity and petrifying emotions to conquer.

Thorn, having a one-sided crush for Fah since they were kids, was painful. I can’t help but to feel sad for him. It is a relief that finally he has acquired the same kind of love he was hoping for a long time, even Fah himself felt like he was an idiot that time. But there’s nothing wrong with not liking back a person who romantically admired you. Luckily, Fah also grows feelings for Thorn and the moment when they exchange kisses was so great. I can feel the lingering emotion they have for each other, a well executed kissing scene. The conflict about their relationship is common and inevitable for those who share a similar dream. If the other one is getting ahead with a long gap of distance, sometimes the one who left behind can’t escape feeling envious and sorrowful. The whole basketball game during the episode prior to the last is an intense one. I love the tension, the drama, the reconnection, the burst of emotions, and Thorn’s realization of his sudden change of attitude that affects the way he treats the people around him. During Thorn’s desperate period of time to catch up to the wasted months of him being injured until he finally breaks down in pain, Fah waits for him for months until he can finally embrace a sense of comfort to Thorn once again. Both of them fit to be the main couple; two men playing a game in the field of their dream as official partners in life.

Saen and Aii are cuties! The lovey-dovey moments of these two stood the most. Their relationship's biggest wall is not the long distance itself but it is when one of them sacrifices his long-awaited dream for the sake of love that just blooms in a few months. I am happy that they talked about this topic with honest and sincere thought. I am not a big fan of seeing those who choose romance over ambition, it’s a good thing that the drama doesn’t use this kind of cliche plot anymore. Saen is such boyfriend material, his way of showing his love is sending me butterflies. Initially, I thought that Aii can’t sync with the level of affection that Saen gives to him but then I realized the two of them have a different personality; one is introverted and the other one is socially active. The best attribute that this couple had is the power of communication. There’s always a problem to be encountered in life, it’s hard but when both of them talk about it, there’s a huge chance that the problem itself will eventually fade away.

The right person in a wrong time love story of Dome and Vee. It was a moment of ups and downs that is really hard to conclude a happy ending since the wall between them is not something to be forgotten easily. The beach episode is a breath of fresh air for the non-stop physical activities and they make a sublime use of the scenario. Opening up your feelings mostly happened at the beach or resorts whether in drama or real life. The rainbow after the storm seems far from their relationship but I admire how they handle the situation with calmness and most reasonable thought. The ending was the best conclusion for them. A little talk was enough to establish their thoughts even more. It is a realistic and commendable plot.

The rest of the characters in this show left a memorable role. The unforeseen shift of character from the coach who started up as an antagonist was indeed shocking to me. I honestly think that I will hate him until the end but each person does have two sides. What I like about this coach is that he didn't insult Thorn and Fah’s homosexual relationship. The basketball team was a lovely group of people who acquired a kind heart and a thoughtful mind. Fluke impact to this drama is a big shout out to the norm of using openly gay character only for the comedy element. Fluke on the other hand is a dependable gay player in the team that helps the development of the main couple to the absolute best. She is interesting to watch and I am glad that the story gave her a nice ending by being the new student activity president. On the other hand, I feel bad for Pan (Vee’s sister) to experience a shocking turn of events. Yet, she herself is also the one who pushes Vee and Dome to reconcile. She is a thoughtful and loving sister to Vee’s life. Tupbok is such an eye candy to the show hihi he is cute along with Pete. The rest of the supporting characters play very well in the story. Sometimes, I forget that Torn and Saen are best friends because they literally have their own world when having a moment together with their respective boyfriends.

The ending is so satisfying, a nice way to end the show. The closure that each character got was amazingly done in the most realistic and accepted way. You’re My Sky is probably one of the above average sports dramas that I’ve ever seen. Way to go!

The main couple is so bad that you HAVE to root for the guy kissing his brother in law

There are many instances where the main couple is not the best couple or the most entertaining to watch, like Until me Meet Again, Wy R U and My Engineer. But usually the main couple has some redeeming quality, like chemistry or a compelling story. You’re Me Sky fails miserably in that aspect.

Yes, I don’t love how much the sport aspect is a major part of the main story, but other shows have done is well. It’s the same problem for some high school BLs, where it’s all about the school. I think the problem for You’re My Sky is that I don’t get the sense that Fah and Thorn are that good at basketball. So, I kept waiting for someone to tell them that they’re not good enough, so they can face reality and move on.

We have three couples and, although I don’t love any of them, Vee and Dome are by far the best one. Yes, their relationship means that Pan is being cheated on by her boyfriend and her brother, but that’s just how things are on this series. They have more chemistry looking at each other from across a pond than the main couple making their relationship official. Aii and Saen are okay and they are cute together, But Saen annoys me a bit sometimes.

I actually like Suar and I think Tae is OK. Suar was great in You Never Eat alone, while Tae was good in Y Destiny, but I think he’s a bit to robotic sometimes. From episode 1 I could feel that Fah and Thorn didn’t have chemistry. As their story progressed, it was becoming more and more obvious that the romance was not working for me. To make matters even worse, their plot is extremely boring, at best. It’s all basketball all the time. We don’t learn anything about them nor do we see them getting to now each other better, since they last saw each other. They only talk about basketball. I couldn’t care less about how much Thorn wants the promises they made years ago to be a reality. Thorn took every opportunity he could to be an idiot at every turn.

Regarding the endings, Aii and Saen got the best one. They are making long distance work and the show remembered that Saen is rich and can just spend his vacations in Japan with Aii. For Dome and Vee, I understand it. They are still, basically, waiting for the time to pass. But it’s clear that they like each other and this is not a sad ending. As for Fah and Thorn, what a surprise, they got all they wanted. I really hoped that Thorn’s leg would get injured again or that he’d have to just keep playing with the university and wait. But no, he managed to get the opportunity to try out and play with Fah, even after that happened at the tournament. In the end, Thorn got everything he wanted, and I’m not to thrilled about that. Also, I’m 100% sure he’ll drop the university team as soon as he can.

85% sports, 10% romance. and 5% NO NO NO

PLOT: Two childhood friend vow keep playing basketball together until they become professional players and later opening a basketball school after their retirement. Yes, you heard that right....before they were even romantically involved they already made plans to spend their lives together lolol cute.

Since Tupfah is about three years older than Thorn, they parted ways when Tupfah went to college. But, just like they vowed as kids, Thorn followed his bestie (and also long time secret crush). However, he soon found out that because the college team has been so bad in the past few years, Tupfah has pretty much given up on his dream of becoming a professional player. But softboy Thorn came to his rescue and convinced not only Tupfah, but other player and the school's board to raising the basketball team back from the dead....all in the name of love!!!! AAAHNNNNN <3

And so our story develops and a lot goes down with our main couple, but it's cute and pretty much close to what a real could be. Lots of insecurities, passion, real ups and downs, and every day troubles. This is not those type of BLs with crazy plots. It's a real slice of life series but make it sporty lol

CAST / CHARACTERS:

- Tupfah: Started of super strong as a kid...being a really good friend and supporter for tiny Thorn. Of course people change along the way, but I didn't get why he basically treated Thorn as a stranger when they reunited in college. Why? That was weird...they were besties lol Their relationship slowly grew from idk you, to you're annoying me, to I'll prove it to you, to I thin i love, to love of my life. He was always a little self-centered and never really appreciated everything Thorn did for him. Took him from granted several times until the last episode, tbh. And believe me, he owns a lot to Thorn.

- Thorn: Marshmallow kid that grew up loving his bestie Tupfah since his teens. Literally followed the guy's steps until college!! The dedication was just amazing...and there wasn't even a promise of them being anything more than just teammates. He did everything in his power to help Tupfah get back on his "player" feet lol. Let's just say he suffered along the way...was poorly treat by his loved one, lost everything that he had. Of course he would crack. But at the end of the day, he's just a really nice guy that deserved a better boyfriend. JUST SAYIIINNNG. Don't hate.

Not going to lie here!
SaenAii had much more chemistry onscreen than our main. They were cuter together and their scenes kinda stole the show for me...I just wish they had more romance time.

DomeVee was just so wrong. NO NO NO NO. There are literally a million other men out there. Why was that even a thing? Bad brother... bad boyfriend...bad everything. It was very EWW for me. Feelings grown when you let it grow. And tell me when in real life a sister would be okay with that and just forgive them that easily? Yeah, ew, no.

Nice series, but very sport centric. If you don't really like that, it's def not for you. There is romance, but they don't spend a whole lot of time and effort developing those arcs. But it was enjoyable to watch :)

"Do not let anyone go through their worst days alone"

I am not the type to always write a review after completing a series. I love leaving comments here and there but for this one I felt I should leave a review for those on the fence about starting this series.

Top 3 reasons why I fell in love with YMS:
- The writing. The conversations and exchanges between characters are well-written. The headline is one of the many lines that stuck with me.
- The cinematography. This was shot beautifully. The colors. The transitions.
- The characters. The individual characters each have something unique to offer, the couples have great chemistry and sexual tension and most of all we don't have an evil, conniving character.

One thing to keep in mind before watching is that it's very slow and very fast at the same time. The slowness and softness of every scene feels very comforting while the time skips at the end is not everyone's cup of tea - it is very realistic to me.

Lastly, it has the perfect balance of fluff and angst. (if you're looking for tongue kisses then this is not it for you.)

As one of the couples say: "Go or no go?" Definitely a go!

New Favorite BL

Hi Everyone. I just want to preface this by saying that I have never wrote a review for another drama before and I have been on this site since 2016. First off, this review does contain spoilers, so shy away if you do not like them. There is a no spoiler TL;DR at the end of this review. I just want to say that I hope everyone gives this drama the love it deserves, the rating does not do it justice.

The main problem I see everyone mentioning is the fact that there is a time skip. I typically hate time skips, but this one was only 6 months and it fit the drama perfectly. The main character had a leg injury and one half of the side couple was going to study in Japan. With these items in mind it is rational that there was a time skip so that the injury would heal and we can see the character growth with basketball, plus it gave a reasonable amount of time for the second couple to have a reunion with each other at graduation. The time skip was done perfectly as it still showed what transpired in the main couples relationship through flashbacks. I think the drama was enhanced by the time skip, but that is just my opinion. Now onto the couples:

Main couple: Fah & Torn

What a breath of fresh air this couple was. The communication was great and Fah gradually falling in love as he spends more time with Thorn was very realistic. It was not rushed, but there was still enough intimacy in the series to feel the chemistry between the two. I enjoyed how they displayed their affection for each other and worked through their issues as quickly as possible. I feel the best scene was where Thorn realized how hard he has fallen and how much he changed when Fah walked away from him in the locker room during the last game. I was so happy when Fah came back to comfort Thorn and let him know that he did not hate him. That was a huge turning point for Thorn and I was so happy he realized this was not the way he wanted to play.

Secondary Couple: Aii & Saen

This was my favorite couple in this series. I absolutely love the way Aii fell for Saen and loved him unconditionally. He was even willing to give up his dream of studying in Japan for their love, but I am glad he didn't because that is more realistic. The fact that they worked through their long distance relationship and still had a happy relationship in the end was great to me. Saen's smile could melt the room, and i was so happy with their ending. Typically i hate when couples get separated, but because of the time skip it was like they were never apart. A+ Storyline.

Secondary Couple: Vee & Dome

I was not a big fan of the "stealing sisters boyfriend" storyline, but I thought it ended as good as it could have. There could have been more cute scenes with them, but i understand why they did not go that route considering it was almost as if they cheated the sister with the way they were acting towards each other. I do wish they solidified their relationship in the end since six months have passed and the sister gave her best wishes, but I get why Vee wanted to wait a little longer. I just hope he does not make dome wait for too long.

TL:DR (No Spoilers)

This was a masterpiece of a BL. I have watched so many BL and I always look at MDL ratings for an indication of if I will watch something. I am SO thankful i did not let this rating deceive me. I have no idea why it is rated so low with the three amazing couples. Some people complain about the ending, but it ended fittingly and I would be fine if there was no second season for this. Trust me, this was incredible and worth the watch. You will not regret it!!

Thanks for reading.

What a Disappointment !!!!

I was looking forward to this when the first trailer came out, unfortunately it really fell short after watching the first two episodes, to the point I started fast forwarding just to get to the end.

The absolute worst part of this drama was from Ep 10 onwards!!! I really started hating Torn character, as literally everything he did was based around Fah who never really asked him too, and then when fah does get into club we see how through a tantrum and yet he was meant to encourage and support him why bother doing that, his injury set him back and he turns to the enemy for help!! and then you Fah who does nothing but tries to makes things right gets attitude from, he really lacked the basic understanding of what support and encourage is in firstly a game match and as boyfriend, it seemed like he was never happy to see Fah progress in life, instead wished to have him dragged down.

As for the other side couples gosh I can't even begin to say how disappointing they were, one falls for his sister boyfriend the other doesn't want to see boyfriend go off on scholarship, and this whole drama was nothing a bunch of problematic kids they did not understand the basic of respect and love and encouragement or just being there for one or the other!!!

Not to mention there’s like 3 kiss scenes in total which was QUITE the disappointment. i did end up skipping through the last episode as i was very bored and wanted to move on to the next drama. but yeah there is my review, THIS IS MY OPINION

Don't Sleep On This Series!

You're My Sky is such an underrated BL series! I wish more people knew about this wonderful gem of a show. I stumbled upon this while scrolling on IG and I saw a fan edit of the 3 couples - I was curious and I was instantly hooked. I admit, it's a slow burner for the first 1-3 episodes but after that point, I swear the cast, story and beautiful music will capture your heart. The couples are all very loveable and endearing with amazing chemistry, beautiful faces but with talent too! Each couple are given enough screen time for their stories to develop and progress, which is a refreshing change. Honestly, the cinematography is stunning, the music so memorable and appropriate based on the emotions portrayed on screen. Not cheesy or tacky in any shape or form, and it isn't your typical BL. Love it so far! You won't regret watching this.

Give it a chance!

It wasn't perfect but I definitely enjoyed watching it so much! It's one of those series I never expected myself to like, but WOW I am so glad I gave it a chance !!
The cinematography is GREAT, and I love each pairing in this show! The side couples especially stole my heart!
The cast was also very well picked! They did so well in their roles and I could feel so much chemistry between all the couples :D
As for the story, I feel like this show gives off a sense of reality, which I appreciate. The story really makes you get engaged to all the characters and their respective struggles. However, there were some parts I wish could've gone better. For example, the pacing was off.... and the time jump kinda made things weird.
And I was hoping for a better ending tbh, but I guess I can understand why the writers chose to end it that way.
So overall, tho there are some parts that could've been better, it's honestly one of my favorite BLs I've watched this year!
I found myself getting excited about each episode release and now that it's over, I miss it quite a lot.
I feel like this show is def a hidden gem and should be talked about more. Lowkey hoping for a S2 with more insight on how the couples are doing or even some special episodes plssss

You're My Fire, The One Desire, Believe When I Say, That This Show Isn't All Bad

Ya'll on here better get the reference of my title for this review XD

This show was okay. Not great, but not terrible. The lighting choices in this show were actually really cool. Scenes are lit up with fluorescent pink lighting in some shots and its well done. Not overly quirky feeling or dumb. It's also just shot really nicely compared to other BL's that are super stiff shots over and over again. I didn't mind the main couple Tupfah and Torn. They were cute albeit kinda cliche. We saw the best friends to lover trope done perfectly in ITSAY, we don't really need it again.

I could tell things were going south for them when Torn started going behind Fah's back. That is a big relationship no no and honestly Fah could've been more upset with him. Dude was an overworked angel for a lot of this show. Though he did start to neglect Torn and others around him. I liked the showing of the "pressure to perform" in a sport. It's pretty realistic and you just can't let something like that change who you are as a person. Like it was starting to do with Torn, along with his being frustrated with the relationship situation. Speaking of sports, I liked the basketball scenes in this. Though I could see if you don't like or care about the sport those scenes were probably too long for you. Fair enough. Though I have to ask one thing. Why is there crowd cheers during the important game of the show with zero people in the stands? That was hella weird XD

Moving along. The side couples I didn't really care for. Aii and Saen were okay. First their relationship was Saen having unrequited love that turned into a hook up. Then once they actually got together, Aii makes it long distance thing? Just wasn't very necessary, however... this wasn't as bad as the third couple Dome and Vee. They were the worst in my opinion! With the girl drama, the lack of scenes and engaging dialogue. To the awkward thigh/leg rubbing that was like a poorly made version of ITSAY's scene lol. Like why did we need that? We didn't need a third couple but often they are added in to fill in some gaps. Though arguably, they could use that gap time to literally flesh out the other couples more! The only series I can think of off the top of my head that pulled of 3 couples was UMWA. But one couple was dead and technically a part of the main couple soooo... though in LBC season 1 I did like 3 couples too. Mostly though it doesn't work.

Watch this series though. You might have to scrub through a couples scenes but power through it you'll probably enjoy some aspects of it!

Must Watch

I would recommend this show as one of the must-watch. The storyline was refreshing, and the cast members were cute and did justice to their respective characters. In this series, three different couples with varied backgrounds in sports science fall for each other. Well written script. Each couple has their own set of unique issues to be dealt with. Every relationship has its hurdles, which the couple has to overcome if they honestly want to be there for each other. The cast did a great job portraying emotions such as love, sympathy and aggression. The nine-month and six-month changed the relationship dynamics among the cast and their character.

Scenes:
The basketball scenes throughout the episode were fantastic, the way they portrayed their respective characters was great, and the beach ball game was a lovely addition to the show.

Lead cast:
The show did have quite an interesting start and had a lot of backstories of Tupfah and Torn.
Tae and Suar's chemistry was intense and sweet. Tupfah and Thorn’s scenes were cute. Tupfah did have more than a friendly feeling towards Torn and was not aware of it. The kiss scenes were fantastic. They had to overcome tremendous hurdles to become one. Sometimes people just want the right person to spend time with, communicate, support, love and care for them. Ingfah was great and gave the push Tupfah needed. Bringing Shane back into the picture had some effect on Fah-Torn's relationship.

Jump-Boom was funny. Saen was an interesting and funny character, and Aii seems reserved. Their story was initially slow-paced, but once they realised that both shared the same feeling, their story became fast-paced. Saen's grandmother is supportive and funny. Saen and Aii's conversations were always so pure and genuine. In the end, it was good to see how much Saen and Aii have grown to love each other and want to make sure they don't make any mistakes that'll cost their relationship to fall apart.

Vee and Dome were promising characters with potential. Vee and Dome share a unique bond. They had their fair share of hurdles because Vee’s Pan was dating Dome. Porsche-Kris did a great job with their characters. They could have had more screen time.

Dynamics between characters:
Torn and Saen are good friends, and they could have more screen time to show more of their friendship.
Tupfah was a great friend by helping Saen and Aii.
It was pleasant to watch the chat between Vee-Saen and Aii-Torn.

Other Cast:
Pan was being such a supportive sister for Vee throughout the series. She truly loved Dome but in the end was supportive of their relationship. Pan also gave the motivation Aii required. She is a warm-hearted character.

Basketball team members were a lovely addition to the series. They were supportive towards Torn and Tupfah. But, when Torn need their support they weren’t there for him, which affected their relationship and game.

Tupbok is not like his brother Tupfah and is kind of funny. He is a great friend of Torn.

Fluke was really funny.
Coach Tuan and Big were unique and had different methods of teaching and beliefs.

Everyone got their happy ending.

For me, this series started off a little shaky. I almost dropped it. And then it got better. I've liked the last couple of episodes because I think it showed realism, the struggle of one going forward and the other being left behind. I was worried for a hot minute that their was going to be cheating involved from what they left us with at the end of episode 10 (I think it was).
I do believe they were trying to make this series to be on the same level as 'I told Sunset about you'. I mean cinematography was almost on par but the acting wasn't up to scratch, it felt awkward in a lot of places and the story was a bit hit and miss.
I did like how they focused on 3 main couples instead of going the normal route of having a main couple and then having side couples. They were all equal.
Overall, I wouldn't class it as one of my favourite BLs or a memorable BL and I can't say it's one that I'd come back and watch again.

Quite underrated

One of the most vanilla BL series we’ve had in a while but I must say, I enjoyed it as it had some interesting moments and had 3 couples that were distinct and entertaining.
Sure, it is certainly not perfect, but World Y Entertainment put a very decent product that did not need to rely on having unrealistic plots, excessive surprises/plot twists, or the usual clichés we always expect to see in Thai BLs (and, by now, I think we kinda expect it in almost every BL).

The plot is quite simple, university students from the Faculty of Sport Science trying to navigate through their university life and finding love in the process. Three couples (one being more of a triangle) that focus on a different sport: basketball, soccer, and running. The usual side characters that bring some problems to the main actors are there as well but unlike previous BLs where the side characters are the usual crazy and jealous female, the rival love interest, or the excessively loud shipper squad, “You’re My Sky” focused on having a bit more mature side characters which made this story more likeable albeit more vanilla, as I think we were all expecting one of the chaotic characters to appear and disrupt the flow of the story and one (or more) of the couples but in the end, I’m glad the writer and the director followed the original source more or less faithfully, to bring this story… for once, I’m happy for vanilla with sprinkles because we’ve had too many BL disasters lately that failed just because they couldn’t stop adding to the plot mess, so this series saved itself from that.

What worked:

1) The couples: While the 3 couples were not completely flawless and in interviews with Youtubers a few of the actors have shown a slightly different personality and chemistry with their on-screen partner (more on that later), I think these 3 couples did a good job portraying their character but most importantly, clearly marking the differences inside their own couple and also with the other 2 couples.
The lead couple is Fah and Torn who are childhood friends who meet by chance as Torn is normally left alone at home and Fah begins talking to him and starts sharing his basketball knowledge which leads Torn to also love the sport. Basketball is their common interest and after Torn is finally let out to play with Fah, they practice all the time and set their goal on joining the Thai National team. They are both rejected from the junior national team by Coach Tuen but as both go to the same university (Fah is older) that fuels their passion for basketball even more. The rest of their story deals with Torn and Fah joining their university team (composed of non-basketball players, except Fah’s little brother who returned from abroad) and learning how to play together as a team to win the school’s title. Then Fah getting an offer from a club in the Thai league that brings problems for the couple as he is never home and Torn suffering a serious injury that requires surgery and a long layoff but he decides to contact Coach Tuen only for him to turn into a jerk, realize his mistake, apologize and move on. Fah graduates and Torn gets an offer to try out for Fah’s club. In the process they realize they love each other, move in together and become boyfriends.

The second couple is Saen and Ai with Saen being a freshman and Torn’s friend and deciding from the very beginning that he likes Ai, a senior and Fah’s friend. Saen is a star soccer player and Ai is the only one in this series that doesn’t play any sport but he is always there supporting the events of the faculty. At first, Ai is quite flustered as he doesn’t believe Saen’s flirting is for real until he begins to lower his guard and realizes that not only Saen is being sincere but also that he is feeling the same towards him. Saen is quite pushy but gets rejected all the time until Ai relents a little and accepts his feelings for him. The rest of the story involves all the usual lovey-dovey stuff that Saen does to show Ai he really and truly likes him, Ai acting tough at first but then becoming soft and mushy himself. The only big issue this couple has is that Ai applied to go to Japan to continue his studies and gets accepted, doesn’t tell Saen, they argue a bit, then he has doubts if he really wants to go and leave Saen alone and have a long-distance relationship… but unlike many BL series, this couple DOES talk to each other and after sharing their feelings and decide that Ai will go to Japan and they will have a long-distance relationship.

The third couple, and in my opinion, the most interesting one, is Vee and Dome. Dome is a senior in a relationship with Vee’s older sister, Pan. Dome and Vee never really interact until Pan mentions that she will like it if her boyfriend and her brother would get along and, at the same time, an injury in the running squad, forces Vee to join the relay team with Dome. In there, they begin to form a bond as both realize that their feelings for each other are too strong to ignore. However, the whole series has them discovering they like each other, Vee experiencing the guilt of falling in love with his sister’s boyfriend, keeping their interactions to the minimum (which causes Vee to miss the baton in the relay race and hyperventilate because of the anxiety and the stress), getting drunk at the beach and kissing each other only to be discovered by Pan, Vee ignoring his feelings for Dome and avoid him for months until graduation when they talk (pushed by Pan who is no longer mad or resentful at Dome or Vee) and establish that Vee still has feelings for Dome and that Dome will continue to wait for him, so they both leave the door open for a future relationship.

2) The acting (not all, but most of it): As I said, the series is not perfect, but I feel the acting of some of the actors really helps “You’re My Sky” a lot, especially Kris (playing Dome) and Porsche (playing Vee) are the best, in my opinion. Not only their acting is the most difficult of all 3 couples but also they have to navigate through a lot of different emotions and situations like being awkward at first since they didn’t use to talk despite Dome being Pan’s boyfriend, moving to being friendly as they begin to train together and start discovering things in common, moving to being careful/confused as they realize they are experiencing some feelings they might not be supposed to have, moving to both feeling guilty, Vee because he thinks he is betraying his sister and Dome because he never tells Pan the truth until she discovers them kissing, moving to melancholy of Vee avoiding Dome and Dome not being able to talk to Vee as he tries to respect his feelings. Both Kris and Porsche were properly coached and directed and were able to convince me of their emotions during their scenes up to the point that I was clamoring for them to have more screen time over the other 2 couples.
The other actors have some good moments as well, Suar (playing Torn) has to also navigate through different emotions of joining the university to play with his idol and childhood hero, discovering he might be in a relationship with a girl, clearing that out when Fah realizes he likes Torn and confesses to him, to being jealous of Fah when he joins the Thai club and he can’t because of his injury, to being a jerk to his teammates after Coach Tuen helps him recover from his injury, to realizing he is ok if he is not the best as long as he can rely on his teammates and play with Fah. While Jump (playing Ai) deals with constant flirting of Saen, putting up a wall, breaking a little when he realizes he does like Saen after all, accepting his advances, becoming boyfriends, having to deal with leaving to study abroad, having the uncertainty of a long-distance relationship, feeling happy because he really does love Saen and can make this relationship work after all. Both actors were good, but not as consistent as Kris and Porsche were in their acting.
Apple (playing Pan) was also great in her role of loving girlfriend of Dome and supporting sister of Vee to slowly realizing Dome might not love her as much as she loves him, discovering her brother and boyfriend kissing, dealing with the anger and confusion towards Dome and Vee, and becoming understanding of their situation and even trying to push them to be together in the final episode. A good example of what a good female support character can bring to a BL story when used correctly and without her having to throw tantrums, do crazy things, run around screaming and whining all the time, or trying to sabotage the guys’ relationship by doing stupid things. She was just mature, calm and always reasoned with logic.

What didn’t work:

1) Some of the plot: I appreciate the fact that we had some sports mixed in the series as the usual university setting had at least some change. However, basketball dominated the series almost entirely with at least 2 full episodes (one with the university tournament and one with Fah vs. Torn in the Thai club league) and portions of other episodes being dedicated to basketball. I understand Fah and Torn are the main couple but I believe Saen had about half of an episode where he actually had a soccer game and Vee/Dome had some portions of a few episodes dedicated to their training for the relay race and the actual race probably took 3 minutes of one episode. So, I love basketball, but it was a bit disappointing to have the series giving so much relevance to the sport over the other two. And, they tend to rely a bit too much on flashbacks, especially for Fah and Torn’s past and time jumps. Torn’s injury was supposed to take at least 9 months to heal and by bringing Coach Tuen that went down to 7… but we saw all that recovery in about 5 minutes of episode 11. Then, in episode 12, they are graduating and it’s implied that weeks have gone by since Vee talked to Dome and in the same episode, Ai comes back from Japan to surprise Saen and join the commencement ceremony but it never felt like a lot of time went by.

2) Some of the side characters: Coach Tuen is a jerk and a bully and I understand that due to the lack of the crazy female character or the male love rival, the story needed a sort of villain… but his actions were almost too cartoonish and predictable. Coach Big is too soft and friendly with the players so if I was a part of his team, I wouldn’t feel too motivated. As a side note, it was odd to see Khoo (playing Coach Big) as during the first few episodes of this series, he was still being featured as Jean, a French pâtissier who is the ex-boyfriend of Singto’s character in “Baker Boys”, so having him as a chef and basketball coach for a little bit, was a bit disconcerting. The other side characters were there but didn’t provide too much substance. The university basketball team had nice moments with Fah and Torn as all know they are together but don’t push them to confess and some give good advice to Torn when he is dealing with some issues but other than that, they don’t factor as major plot changers in the story.

3) A bit of the acting: Tae’s (playing Fah) acting remains a bit of the weakest link in this story. His acting in “Y-Destiny” was quite bad along with Chap (now acting in “The Tuxedo”) and here Tae has not improved much. His tone remains the same in almost every situation, he seems tense while doing some scenes and even a bit awkward when doing mushy scenes like quick pecks on Torn’s cheeks or hugging him. At the same time, he was not always present during interviews with the rest of the cast and his chemistry with Suar was not totally there. Boom (playing Saen) also felt a bit off as well as his flirty nature was ok but his facial expressions weren’t strong enough to convince me during the more serious moments he had in the series. And in interviews, he seems quite introverted as he barely talks and his interactions with Jump look awkward as well.

In the end “You’re My Sky” turned out to be a fairly standard BL series with solid acting and an almost ordinary plot that was nothing super exciting or overly dramatic… but in times when we’ve had several plot disasters, writing/directing chaos, and/or bad acting that have ruined many BL series (see some of my other reviews to find out which series I’m talking about), this series brought a bit of a vanilla storytelling that was needed and even appreciated to reset a bit and forget all previous disasters and hopefully get better stories in the future and they added some interesting parts like the Vee/Dome relationship that was probably the best of all 3 couples but had the least amount of screentime.
