When rumors of a secret armory that was left behind by Rong Xuan, who was killed by the Five Lakes Alliance and other heroes 20 years ago in Mount Qingya, start to resurface through a nursery rhyme, the balance of the martial world starts to shift as people begin their hunt for the treasure. Prince Jin of the North secretly trains a group of assassins under the Window of Heaven to stage a revolt, killing off any official who knows its whereabouts. Zhou Zi Shu, the leader of the Window of Heaven and the last remaining survivior of the Four Seasons Manor, driven by guilt and anger at having been indirectly responsible for the death of his loved ones, goes through self torture to insert the seven nails of torment into his body in order to leave the organisation. The nails of torment would eventually make him lose his senses and lead to death within three years. He disguises himself as a beggar to prevent Prince Jin's spies from tracing him as he suspects that Prince Jin would not let him off easily. In Mount Qingya, the Hanging Ghost of the Ghost Valley commits treason, betraying his chief and stealing a piece of the Glazed Armor. Enraged, the Chief asks all the ghosts of the valley to kill the traitor , promising the position as the Head of the Ten Devils to whoever who brings back the armor. Three months later, still disguised as a beggar, Zhou Zi Shu catches the eye of the Young Master of Mirror Lake Sect, Zhang Cheng Ling, who takes a pity on his plight and offers him a few coins. Zi Shu's optimistic nature attracts the attention of Gu Xiang, a young girl, and her master Wen Ke Xing. Xiang offers Zi Shu some wine, however, his nonchalant attitude and disdain for money angers her and she feels that he tricked her into giving it to him.
