Not to be harsh but the story kinda suck for me
bluntly speaking, this series got a lot of attention because there's 18+ scenes which is a lot. ik that scenes kinda necessary in drama to show their affection towards each other but for me.. idk lol. the acting was great tho. and i kinda not satisfied with some scenes, especially the rape scenes which is the raper didn't go to jail. like DEADASSS U JUST MAKE SOMEONE TRAUMATIZED FOR THEIR WHOLE LIFE FOR FUCKING SAKE JUST JAIL YOURSELF. and fr i feel totally ✨uncomfortable ✨ with tharn behavior,sometimes...Considerați utilă această recenzie?

I personally dislike this BL, And ill tell you why here
|| May contain Spoilers || Overall just my opinion |||| This review might be all over the place… ||
For starters this was one of my first BLS i watched. It was extremely popular when i watched it, So i thought it was gonna be AMAZING!!!! Well was i wrong… Lol
I loved the songs in this BL I’m not gonna lie. They are catchy and when they play every Now and then I catch myself humming and singing Along.
The chemistry Mew and gulf had was pretty good, I just hated the whole storyline to the BL and the stereotypes in it??? I watched it with my family members too. i felt embarrassed after watching it because it was so bad.
The way tharn molested type constantly after knowing his Childhood trauma with the subject was beyond me.
“ I dont fuck drunks “ No you molest them. Tharns character was truly sickening im not joking. I Didnt mind him at first but it kept getting so bad. Not saying Types any better though!! It seems like they tried to portray Tharn to be the “ Good guy “ In this show, And by them showing him Molest Type multiple times.. And do many other bad things.. Definitely did not give him that Title. Not only did he molest type but he did many things without CONSENT!!! Like that one time in the Bar where tharn was singing(??) And he went over and tried kissing type without consent..!!! I’m not saying they did wrong to portray This type of stuff in the drama, Its just the way they did.
Also the homophobia Shit.. Type is a gay character but is homophobic still and judges Gays, Not saying this isnt realistic Because people like this truly Do exist. They aren't nonexistent. Its just the way they portrayed it and constantly made it the topic of the drama.
The whole drama was just full of stereotypes, DRAMA, SA, ETC!!! It was all over the place!! I should have dropped it and not watched S1 & S2 Fully???? I thought maybe the directors would learn their Mistakes and fix something and make the characters have development. But nope..
Also what the fuck did Tharn see in Type. He was rude, HOMOPHOBIC?? Like did Tharn think to himself “ I can fix him🥺🥺 “ Fucks sake?? Type was just a complete asshole, He was a hot mess. He needs to go to therapy and anger management.
And dont even get me started on Lhong. He was a good friend to Tharn but DAMN was he crazy behind those smiles and that helpful personality.. His true colors showed QUICK. He should have gone to jail or a psych ward, Lets be for real!!!!!
Also i dont get how they make such old actors ( old looking actors too ) Play young highschool or university students. For example Mew was what…? 28 And portrayed a 19 year old. I dont get it…
Also tar looked like he was a baby, His story was sad and i dont get why he did the things he did but whatever, And that guy that was always with him, Forgot his name Lol, I always thought they were brothers or something But maybe i didnt pay attention to them well enough.. They confused me🤷🏽.
Also i dont get how Types character went from HATING gays to having constant sex with Tharn🤦🏽
Okay i'm done with this Review, I guess we can say i just DISLIKE This drama and dont understand it one bit!!

Possessiveness and aggression are all fun and games until someone becomes obsessive....
After more or less getting the idea that this would be the Boys over flowers of Thai BL I decided to watch it, not that the story would be any thing like it but the I did expect a similar level of toxicity and unhealthy relationships. And well I was not disappointed. The styling is a lot better, ok part of me would have loved some kind of iconic hair but the entertainment value was definitely high. While as relationship goals not so much....There are so many mixed messages on the one hand Tharn seems to get it, be all caring and nice, understand that rape is bad but then he goes and does some pretty questionable deeds... Consent wise it is almost scary... but they do talk about it so it does not just pas by as romantic... Still the guy is also pretty jealous, possessive yet tender and kind. Yet still more or less a sexual predator always in need of a fix...
Type spends most of the drama as an extreme homofob, taking out his anger on pedofiles on homoseuals while being in denial of his own sexuality. I feel so bad for the guy for nor having the opportunity to learn about sexuality, consent and how to differentiate sex from assault pedofelia from sexuality... Oh well but the guy is otherwise pretty smart, and oddly vulnerable yet possessive, jealous and also portrayed as a man who is always horney, oh well...
A small reminder, Men no matter what sexuality you have I know most of you are not sexual predators and that you may not always be up for a f****. Also checking for stds is always a good idea, I like that this drama made way for that.
The side characters in this drama are interesting, most of them are just the sweetest ever, others are well not so sweet. The best character of this whole show is Types best friend Techno who may not be the smartest guy but is definitely the sweetest and so is his sidekick. Tharns family is also adorable, the parents are too good looking to be realistic but the whole family dynamics is adorable.
All in all definitely an entertaining show, easy to binge, easy to watch, not really a romance and definitely not for those who are underaged... I will leave you with this male aggression and possessiveness may seem like all fun and games until someone gets obsessive or another man gets gang raped... Also stay safe and check for consent!

TW: rant, rape, sexual abuse, harassment, incest
I have very mixed feelings about this show. When I first watched this show, I found it really interesting especially MewGulf’s chemistry and Techno’s comedic scenes. I also enjoyed their character development of MewGulf as the show progresses. What I really hated about this show was how they gave Lhong a redemption arc like he deserved it?? It makes what he did excusable, which is definitely NOT. Firstly, the show had a special episode for him to show how he was neglected growing up making us feel that we should have remorse for his character. Secondly, he wasn’t even held accountable for his actions. No apology nor punishment at all. Lastly, they showed Thorn forgiving him like it was his decision to forgive him. Actually not really forgive but he said that he will always be a brother to him, which somewhat is supposed to diminish what he has done?
I’m so disappointed on how they handled sensitive issues such as rape, sexual abuse, and sexual harassment. They concluded the series with no characters facing the consequences of their actions. Llong moving away just like that and feeling sorry for himself is not enough of a consequence for the things he had done. It’s like the show somewhat accepts that it’s okay to do these things. Don’t get me started on the lack of consent of Tharn that triggered Type’s past sexual abuse and how Tum and Tar are sibling/step brothers.
I still very much like MewGulf off-screen, and I will probably watch ss2. However, let’s look at the facts on how this show handled certain sensitive issues. Go enjoy the show if you still do, but don’t just blindly watch a show without being critical about it.

Like What in the WOLRD did I just watched?!?!
No offense to the actors, author or Production or whatsoever...But this storyline has so many mad red flags:
- Romanticizing of Sexual Assault (the character Tharn was a piece of sh*t, who told you can touch a sexual assault victim without his consent?!)
- toxic behavior and unreasonable behavior (Type, Tharn and especially you Lhong)
- character Type, like really?! Even when you hated gays because of your past trauma, you had no legal rights to mess with the stuff of other people. And why nearly the end of the story when your good friend come out to as gay you judged him when you were taking up a d*ck yourself...like makes no sens to me BOI.
- this isn't how sexual assault victim overcome their trauma (at least in my opinion, maybe I am overlooking something). What this BOI needed is a therapy and healthy environment to overcome his past trauma and not toxic drama with no common sense...
I believe this could have been a hidden gem of slice-of-life-trope. With a story of a young boy/ young man, who struggles to over his past demons, who are hunting and tormenting him daily. And with the help of his loved ones and real friends, he could have sought out professional help and treatment. And that with each step he could have found his way back to the light out of his nightmares, back into reality. Then they could have slowly introduced the male lead, Tharn, with his story. I think they could have thought a more beautiful and lovely way for Type and Tharn to meet. Of starting to know each other, starting from study-mates to friends to lovers, falling in love (showing the real struggle to fall in love without stupid misunderstandings), confessing to each other, meeting the family and friends of each other, starting to build (a realistic) life with each other and so much more. Maybe I am just a hopelessly romantic (from all the novels I read daily) but I still believe they could have done better.

Beyond Toxic
They wasted all the actors' good acting with this script full of romanticizations.First of all, Type is extremely homophobic, a consequence of child abuse he suffered, and mistreats Tharn several times. This character really needed a psychological help but he got none. I feel like a lot of people hated him for the way he treated Tharn and loved Tharn because the show keeps putting him as a "cute" character, but to me, he was just another abuser who went through Type's life. And worst of all, the script was romanticizing all of this.
Abuse is not just about the sexual act and Tharn abuses Type in several ways. The first one was in the first episode, with the excuse that he was "paying back" for Type's homophobia. Type’s friend even make a joke about rape. Later, even though Type sets limits on their relationship, Tharn harasses Type in the bathroom, and even though the situation is extremely invasive, the script put as something sexy. You can see that the writer wanted to make this scenes “hot” by the songs they choose to put in the moment. Even when Type tells Tharn that he was abused, in the bar scene, Tharn angrily press Type to the wall and try to kiss him (when he doesn’t want to). What a nice way to treat a boyfriend you know has been sexually abused isn't it?
I won’t even talk about the secondary couple because they’re also extremely problematic.
Many put the fact that the TharnType is "real" and “adult" as something to be acclaimed for and completely ignore this whole disgusting romanticization that happens to the characters' attitudes. I watched this serie until the end and despite bringing good chemistry and acting from the main leads, the series is really problematic and it’s not something to be acclaimed for. The writer didn't even bother to approach the serious themes (as a Type’s abuses) with delicacy. It’s just too toxic, insensitive and problematic.

Overrated, and not good
Tharntype is so bad. The first 3 eps I COULDN'T STAND IT. Tharn assaulted type like 3 times i think. These show romantices sexual assault. Tharn forced type on him. Idk why ppl are not bothered by it.
When the shows go on its getting better, but i thought it was sort of boring. Techno was a really funny character i watched it because he's so funny af. Also the story is kinda basic. the homophobic guy gets with a gay guy. So typical.
Lhong also..
Why is he not in jail?
He let someone be gangraped.. and ppl still like him?

I finished this series in about three days on the weekend, and I have mixed feelings about it. Hear me out:I agree with what the general consensus is in terms of the acting, I think it's relatively well acted. The two main actors do a great job with the roles they're given. And if I can be completely honest, I think the actor who played Lhong was actually the most talented. But that's not what I want to talk about.
I've yet to see a review on this series pointing out a few obvious (to me, at least) problems that the series highlights. I'll just come right out and say it: Type is a terrible person and in no way deserves Tharn, so although I knew they would end up together (how could they not?) I was still hoping in the back of my heart that they didn't.
There will be SPOILERS so read at your own discretion:
Type displayed some of the most abusive, problematic, and downright evil treatment towards not only Tharn but also to the people in his life aside from his parents. This is not acceptable and should not be overlooked. I got extremely tired of their relationship by halfway through the series. He offered nothing to Tharn but skirted by on his looks and the trope that everyone wants what they can't - it was unmemorable and annoying a lot of the times.
Type physically attacked Tharn on a number of occasions, punching him in the face twice, pushing him down, kicking him, choking him, holding him by the collar, kneeing him in the groin (the most fucked up thing in my opinion) and countless others. It is NEVER okay, or cute, or charming, or understandable when someone does this sort of thing. Doesn't matter how cute, handsome or sexy someone is. Doesn't matter if that person has gone through traumas of their own. It's not acceptable and Tharn should've had him charged or at the very least reported him to the school.
Then there's the issue of the constant, brutal emotional abusive, manipulation, gaslighting, and downright cruel treatment from Type when it comes to his relationship with Tharn. He practices so many toxic monogamous traits, the main one being the fact that Type seems to use jealousy as a tactic to maintain interest from Tharn. He uses making Tharn jealous as an indicator of love for himself, and openly admits it in the episode where he flirts with women in front of Tharn. Tharn says "Do you enjoy seeing me upset and hurt?" and Type straight up says "Yes, I do!" with a smile. That's fucked up and not acceptable! That's. emotional. abuse. He constantly accepts Tharn's love and affection and sex in secret meanwhile actively living his life as a vehement homophobe.
To a certain extent, Tharn can be blamed for allowing the treatment to continue, because remember he was given many opportunities to move out, and Type did make it clear at the start that he wasn't interested in a friendship and especially not a romance. So knowing all the signs, Tharn pursued Type anyway, and I think he pursued Type based solely on the fact that he's gorgeous (they had really no other basis for a friendship much less a relationship besides the couple weeks of being roommates before Type found out he was gay.) So in a way, Tharn saw all the warning signs straight up and even tasted a lot of Type's wrath and continued to actively pursue him and defend him to everyone around them, which is unfortunate because he's a sweetheart and really let himself get trampled on emotionally and physically.
Another point I'd like to make is that his friends receive similar things from Type: he is constantly threatening to beat them up (and yes, I understand that it's all in fun so don't get me wrong, friends joke, I know) but you can tell that they're scared of him because they will legitimately stop when they know he's upset. And often they will say "He's hotheaded, high strung, and blunt. That's just how he is." as if they're just accepting and excusing the fact that he's always treating people like shit around him. He calls people faggots, tells everyone he meets that he hates gay people, is rash, angry, and immature anytime someone brings up something to do with his behaviour. And honestly near the end of the series just before the climax of the show I was starting to get really really tired of Type. He was starting to lose whatever special place he had in my heart just because he was handsome. It started to become not enough to excuse his shitty personality and behaviour.
Anyway, that's all I'll say about that. I think as a Westerner I might have a really biased view about how relationships work in Thailand or the differences between values and what's acceptable. I see those things happen in the show and I have a much different reaction, but it seems to be a common theme in most BL dramas: abuse, cheating, manipulation, violence, etc. So I guess I'm not totally surprised. I just wish for once the main character (Tharn in this example, who is such a sweetheart) would recognize all of those toxic warning signs and run away instead of running headfirst into it and getting hurt over and over just because the guy he's pursuing is good looking.
And I didn't want to get into it, but I will talk about it briefly before I finish: Type's sexual assault does not, in any way, give him a free pass to treat everyone around him terribly. Especially to the extent that he treats Tharn. Type needs to seek professional, serious help. His unresolved traumas do no deserve to manifest themselves into poor treatment towards his loved ones. I am not saying that it's not terrible he had to go through what he did, I am also a sexual assault survivor and because of that I have deep empathy for Type. Nobody deserves that - but instead of getting into relationships and using that trauma to fuel dangerous and violent behaviours - you need to get assessed and receive proper help. You're an adult and responsible for that, not other people. Not Tharn, who was such a sweetheart to you and was your emotional and physical punching bag.
So I'll say it one last time: they were adorable together behind closed doors every now and again, but they did not deserve each other and I would've preferred it end with Type pushing away Tharn for good and Tharn moving on, and realizing how shitty their rship was in the long run, and Type eventually healing his own self before trying to explore his "gay" side.
I won't rewatch this and probably won't recommend it to others but if you want to see what it's about it's not insufferable.

An irredeemably toxic drama from the pen of a talent-free hack
As the meme goes, when the makers of 'TharnType: The Series' (TTTS) were asked which problematic tropes they wanted to include, they said, "Yes." This series features, and almost always romanticizes, sexual misconduct, sexual assault, child molestation, gang rape, intrafamilial lust, aggressive homophobia, partner violence, emotional manipulation, stalking, blackmail—you get the picture. As if not content with these horrors, it perpetuates further outrages by trivializing trauma from sexual abuse and conflating homosexuality with pedophilia. No topic is heavy or taboo enough to escape treatment in a frivolous, inane manner.I am well aware that this series was adapted from a web novel, and it certainly bears the imprints of the conventional sort of talent-free hack that haunts self-publishing platforms. If TTTS is any indication, MAME can be safely said to have: an impoverished imagination; little curiosity about, much less empathy for, other people, especially queer people; non-existent literary standards; and an outsize, puerile desire to be as "edgy" and "shocking" as possible. The production team, having been tasked to bring such a terrible, toxic narrative to onscreen life, can hardly be expected to depart radically from the source material.
Amid all these, the sole bright point of TTTS is its cast. When they are not enacting the above-mentioned problematic tropes, the performers do eke out moments of genuine affection and tenderness, whether filial, platonic, or romantic. The chemistry between Mew Suppasit and Gulf Kanawut, who play the titular characters, definitely helped in their love scenes—when these were scenes of actual love, rather than of forced intimacy. Techno (Mild Suttinut), Type's best friend, is hilarious, and the interactions between siblings Tharn, Thorn (Tong Thanayut), and Thanya (Maria Tiprada) are heartwarming. It is unfortunate that these moments are far too occasional, and insufficiently influential on the story, to even begin to redeem the series.

How is this so popular!
I've only just recently entered the BL world and this was one of my first ones. I don't give a damn how hot or popular these actors are, this was so toxic and gross! The casual way in which it romanticised and glamourised sexual assault, child rape, and incest (even if it wasn't explicitly stated we all know what was implied) was just so problematic.
And yes I do blame the actors in part, they need to take responsibility. If you have any integrity in your craft - and as human - you should be turning down roles that conflict which your values (assuming you have any and it's not just all about money and fame)
It also says a lot about the attitudes and perspectives of the intended audience which is scary to be honest and goes to show we have a long way to go to improve.
I won't say much more as many people have posted similar reviews. All I can say is don't watch this and voice your opinion for better BL shows to come out of Asia because I know they are capable of it and this New Zealander would like to see it.

worst represantation ever
just glorifies homophobia and sexual harassment. type commits hatecrimes and in return tharn r*pes him. tharn even tells type to report people to the police when they were offended after he called them slurs. tharns self hatred must really be off the charts, but then again he is represented as some sort of saint when he really just harasses type every chance he gets. i get why its popular, but pls this sets us back to like 20 years ago in terms of represantation. why not give shows that normalize mutual respect and consent a chance? Some great recommendations: Not Me, Bad Buddy, Gaya Sa Pelicula and so much more!!!
