Hai Shi grows up disguised as a boy, learning martial arts, writing, etc., and as a disciple of Fang Zhu. Though more than capable, Fang Zhu disallows her to work in the palace, vexing her. The Lantern Festival resurfaces painful memories of lost love for the Emperor and shines a light on the strong bond between him and Fang Zhu.
