I started this drama because I really love the dramas based on youth and music! Once I started this, I couldn't stop because it was really really good!
I love the story-line a lot because it was unpredictable and what it showed was real struggles one has to go through to achieve something. It is perfect example of 'To achieve something, you have to lose something'. The way story went up and down really surprised me because I couldn't predict what will happen next!
Acting over all was good! I really loved Myungsoo's acting, his acting and character impressed me a lot and also I love the way he was paired up with Ye-Rim =3
I loved Lee Min-Ki's carefree and bold character and he is the one who forms the base for this drama also not to mention Sung Joon's impressive character and acting. Other boys were really good at their parts as well!!
Songs of this drama are really really good. The music Eye Candy makes is the real one I mean they really had to sing the songs for this drama. I loved Jaywalking, Love you Like you (L ft Ye-Rim) and WakeUp. They were soo perfect according the situations the characters wrote them.
I recommend everyone who love youth and music based dramas to give this drama a shot and trust me, you would LOVE it!!

I watched it because I was a big fan of L from Infinite but wow, this show was pretty good without the fact that L was in it. Sung Joon was great as the male lead on this show. Super cute and adorable story about friendship and young love and the innocence of being care free and doing whatever your heart tells you to do.

Underrated drama about growing up, grief and friendship

I started this drama with very low expectations because the premise and title sounded silly and juvenile, but I was quickly proven wrong. This is one of those cases where great things can come in small (and understated) packages. The plot is simple and the premise is unoriginal, but SUFBB manages to make it feel fresh. Rather than focusing on the journey to become famous and making their signing onto the label their end goal and the climax of the story, the drama focuses instead on how problems aren't fixed by money or fortune, but expanded.

I loved how they used the premise of a high school rock band becoming famous to tell a story about grief and loss, first love, loyalty to themselves vs. their friends, familial duty, legacy, creative vision and the difficulties of communicating it to others, the search for meaning and growing up to realize you need to walk your own individual path. All this was communicated beautifully by a tight script, good direction and good acting from the whole cast. Despite the things that seemed very much of their time (the style, the hair, some of the music) they hit on something so true in the actual emotions of the characters that it's still very rewatchable.

On the whole this reminds me somewhat of Coffee Prince in that it tells a story that on the surface is tropey and dated, but that gets at something more emotionally raw and thematically interesting than its contemporaries. If you're going to watch a coming-of-age drama, or are looking for something underrated to watch, I would highly recommend this!

Why haven't I seen this hidden gem sooner

From the storyline, to the casts and acting including the soundtracks, it's a piece of art. What I really love about this drama is that it's realistic and it brings out sincere emotions. It's addicting that way.

The storyline definitely exceeded my expectations. I thought it would be just like other dramas but it avoided the conventional plot of fame and success. It focused on the emotions and the relationships of the characters which I really commend.

The casts also made the characters so real that I got carried away on almost every scenes of this drama. To be honest I have a love-hate relationship with this drama. I get mad at the characters whenever they are making a foolish decisions. I find myself growing with them and I love how the story turned out. (Just a quick side note, I just wanna say that L and SungJoon definitely caught my heart in this drama. I just can't get enough of their charisma. ❤️❤️)

The songs featured in this drama is also catchy. I find myself listening to its soundtracks after I finished it. I also love the electric guitar instrumental that they used as a background music (if you know the title let me know please.)

I won't give any spoilers, I just want you to watch for yourself and I'm sure you'll get hooked by it one way or another. Highly recommended really.

Great all round drama - highly recommend

0/10 is my rating. This is a 2012 South Korean TV series with 16, 45 minute, episodes. The flower boy band consists of a group of teenage boys who, while they share a love of music, are different in the way they approach the world. The vocalist Joo Byung-hee (Lee Min-ki) is carefree and wild. He leads up the band "Eye Candy" who exist in the underground rock scene. One of the band members is playboy Kim Ha-jin (Yoo Min-kyu) who is a study in contrast from fellow band memeber baby-faced Seo Kyung-jong (Kim Min-seok) . Fashionable Lee Hyun-soo. Their school closes down and they elect to go to a neighboring school when a rival band, Strawberry Fields, is found to be the ruling band at that school. Tensions flare between the rival bands and Eye Candy's lead singer is killed. The band has to pull it back together and make their dream, and their dead friend's a reality. This is an installment of the Flower Boy series by TVN. Spoiler 🚨 I liked the other two I watched so well that I decided to give it a try even with the sad element the summaries on other sites reveal (the death of one of the band members).

Main cast:
Joo Byung-hee (Lee Min-ki) the original lead singer of "Eye Candy" He is wild, crazy and free spirited. He is a talented vocalist and song writer.
Kwon Ji-hyuk (Sung Joon) He become the leader of "Eye Candy" after Byung-hee's unexpected passing. Byung-hee was his best friend and they wrote songs together. His original goal is to realize Byung-hee's dream and play on stage.
Lee Hyun-soo [L (Kim Myung-Soo)] "Eye Candy" guitarist. He was originally Ji-hyuk's closest friend as children until Byung-hee arrived. He learned to play guitar because of Ji-hyuk and his desire to share something with his friend. He has the personality to interact and be the front person for the band. As a caregiver for his younger sister he has motivation to make it big.
Jang Do II (Lee Hyun-jae) is "Eye Candy's" drummer. His father is a mob boss and Do II is often referred to as "the Prince" as a result. He is the peace keeper of the group and makes suprisingly mature observations.
Kim Ha-jin (Yoo Min-kyu) is "Eye Candy's" bass player. He is a playboy/ladies' man. He spends his time, outside of music, dating one girl after another and staying out at clubs.
Seo Kyung-jong (Kim Min-suk) is Eye Candy's keyboardist. He is best friends with Ha-jin and spends a lot of time as his wing man. He is very loyal and often brings levity to the group.
Im Soo-ah (Jo Bo-ah) was Byung-hee's muse and he started a song, before his death, based on his first encounter with her. She was once one of the "rich kids" but her family fell on hard times and she is hiding her new impoverished life. Her and Ji-hyuk are similarly alone in life - with no family close - and form a friendship as neighbors.
Ye-rim (Kim Ye-rim) has known the boys since their younger years and is viewed, by some, as one of the family. She loves Ji-hyuk but he does not return her feelings. She is jealous of Soo-ah who gets a lot of Ji-hyuk's attention.
Yoo Seung-hoon (Jung Eui-chul) lead of the rival band "Strawberry Fields" he is Soo-ah's childhood friend and self professed boyfriend. He is very jealous of Ji-hyuk and Soo-ah's relationship and vows to get revenge.

Spoiler 🚨 I am really glad that I decided to watch this. I have been enjoying the "flower boy" series by TVN. This highlighted some of the prices of fame. I think it is much more extreme in South Korea than in the United States but it is "lonely at the top" for most famous people regardless of the country. I really feel sorry that fans make it so hard on celebrities. I know some of the young celebrities in the United States get a tough rap because they are constantly under the microscope. I liked the bromances - the relationships between the guys in the band was really heartwarming.

I loved this one - the music was great, the story was really compelling and well developed. A lot of reviews rated this lower but I thought the story was so original, the acting and music was really good and I enjoyed it from the first episode to the last.

This is definitely going to go down as one of my favorites. There's something really wholesome and heart-warming about the entire plot, and even though the problems that the characters face are sometimes really intense, I don't think the vibe of the overall drama ever wavered.

Shut Up Flower Boy Band is surprisingly realistic, and one thing i really liked was that there wasn't one evil antagonist they were all going up against—most of the conflicts were internal struggles or tensions with friendship, and the show handled it all really well. Even the characters who didn't really get along with the main characters were very three-dimensional.

Even though there were some noble idiocy plot points, which I usually hate, I liked them in this show and I understood, mainly because even though the characters were fighting, it never felt like they were no longer friends. The bromance was one of the strongest parts of the entire show and I loved the way they handled conflicts with one another.

Su-Ah and Ji-Hyuk were super cute together as well—after I finished watching the drama, I went back and rewatched all their scenes together. I also liked how there weren't a lot of needless misunderstandings between them; even though they found it hard to talk about their feelings sometimes, when it came to it, they really understood each other's choices. Ji-Hyuk was kind of a bad boy but also lowkey always soft for Su-Ah, which was adorable. Su-Ah was a surprisingly strong female character who spoke her mind a lot and stood up to others, even though she is quiet—but I do wish they had given her even more regarding her art. While the guys had their music thing going on, it felt like her artistic talent was hinted at but it never moved forwards. I wish we saw more of Ji Hyuk's family background too, as it was pretty much only hinted at throughout the drama and I think could've played a bigger part.

Hyun-Soo (L from Infinite) was also one of my favorite characters, who was given a deeper personality than the others. I wish we got to see more of his interactions with his sister. His romantic plotline, though, was something I had mixed feelings about—and I'm not sure I'm fully on board with the ship.

Overall, though, I don't think I was ever really annoyed with ANY of the characters, which is a rare occurrence for me.

I did get spoiled for The Catalyst Event at the end of episode 2, so honestly I didn't find that as heart-wrenching as all the struggles that the characters had to go through afterwards.

I love the OST too—especially Jaywalking and Wake Up, of course—but I'm not sure I love the soundtrack as much as I loved Heartstrings'.

Surprisingly, even though the summary of this drama doesn't do it justice, this drama was actually quite good. The story was nice and it didn't stick to the cliché happy endings, the romance was cute and sweet, the performances nice enough and the friendship between the boys strong enough to keep things interesting till the end. Actually, the only thing that bothered me about this drama was the way it was filmed. The camera was unsteady and the shots and angles were messed up, as you could see a character staring to the front and at the next shot looking at the person next to him. So, if it wasn't for that, I would probably had rated this drama with a 9, as I liked the story and the fact that the episodes were short in length, giving the story just the enough time to develop and without having to add flash back after flash back to fill the one hour length.

I'm a fan of shows with music so I watched this and I wasn't disappointed. Dream High and What's Up were let downs. Rated high because this one is something different. Gritty and the 'Flower Boys' use their fist. This is the anti-BOFs series. Loved the story and actors. Was shocked by the twist early on but that is what makes this show what it is, something different. Also am looking forward to seeing more from Lee Hyun Jae.

Depiction of youth and bromance at it’s very finest, this is still my emotional favourite.

In Short: A personal favourite, this drama took my heart. An honest tale about growing up, set to great music. Everything in the drama seemed well thought out, and we even got a sweet romance with a side of epic bromances.

Pros: Bromance of the epic variety, with tickle fights and everything. Deep and heartfelt, this drama really captures what being young feels like. The music was great.

Cons: The title is the only bad thing about this drama, I don’t really see the point of calling this band a flower boy band.

This drama was really refreshing for me! The concept and themes were great in this drama. I loved the friendship and bromance between the members. The music in here was great and I enjoyed watching it! It gave a rugged hopefulness to chase dreams and not be afraid of the future or change.

Those who know, know.
Those who don't know, should just watch.
Some performances steal a scene. Some an episode. Some an entire show.
Without it, this would be yet another mediocre highschool musical.
It is worth watching for that alone.
I have no other words.
Just press play.
You won't regret it.

They're making me type 500 words. I guess I should say something else.
I like that the music really sounds like something a group of talented highschool kids would belt out in their garage. I like the way it explores how rock clashes with the over-produced, cookie-cutter nature of the Korean music industry. I also like how the writers never lost track of their characters, even if some of them aren't particularly well-defined.
I wish the show had better female characters, and not so many pretty pot plants.

I still think Boys Over Flowers has a lot to answer for but this is head and shoulders above its predecessor, the woeful Flower Boy Ramen Shop.

This is my review.
The end.
